Exactly.  Plus this tonight... melting Titan PSU power connectors.

Thieves.

And they killed their message forum so I can't even ask others if they've had similar issues after updating to 2.00 Titan firmware.

http://imgur.com/tvyjtzH

it seems that the power consumption of the Titans that where delivered with a bunch of bad cores is not constant.

my HPC antec 1300 keeps randomly shutting down, maybe thats  what has prevented my power connectors from burning, but it is clearly a defective production since the pci-e connectors are not designed for so much power, they violate all IEEE standards.

and yes Sam and other at KNC  are thieves, they lied to us and took our money for promises not kept, and most importantly broke the law.

I'm sure you know this but just in case from above post you are using TWO UPS power supplies with 4 y cables supplied (2 PSU leads to 1 cube) correct? Can't tell from the above post...if is just the one PSU (i know unlikely this is the case but just in case you only have 1 psu) that is the symptom when you try to run the works on 1 PSU.

Myself I run 2 corsair 1200i PSU's on 2 cubes (orig) now 3 cubes per PSU with no problems.

anyway disregard if the above is not the issue .....it just reads like you only have 1 psu and no y connectors too boot (You really really need the y connectors)

as to the bad die issue as an example ..my orig titan i have 2 bad dies (1 per 2 cubes) and got 306mh.....with a 2nd Titan I just got I am gettting (after them working themselves up to it for a week ) as of 3 hrs ago EXACTLY 650mh....on v2.00 and still 2 dead dies (1 each on 2 cubes) ....I almost took 2.00 off in that it was slower then 1.97 the first couple days but it seems after running a week it has gained me around 1mh or so..anyway..my experiences.

Old Style Legacy Plug & Play BBS System. Get it from www.synchro.net. Updated 1/1/2021. It also works with Windows 10 and likely 11 and allows 16 bit DOS game doors on the same Win 10 Machine in Multi-Node! Five Minute Install! Look it over it uninstalls just as fast, if you simply want to look it over. Freeware! Full BBS System! It is a frigging hoot!:)

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

dont use cheap sttuff to connect a miner!
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/12/11/evga_supernova_1300_g2_1300w_power_supply_review#.VQaepstZuCU
knc also send a connector to connect 2 PCI-E to 1..... you can also use theese http://www.ebay.com/itm/Official-KncMiner-Y-Cable-PCI-E-5-Pack-for-KnC-Titan-Neptune-Power-Cable-Adapter-/261696076264.
dont play with cheap power supplys they wiull burn you miner!

I will post undervolt pics later some cores runs as low as -0.0837

indication -0.0x the more > the value the lower the voltage! -0.1400 is lower then -0.0366 so start as low as -0.09x or even lower end just switch up til one core starts , but before you do this flash to FW 1.06s !
if core starts remember to voltage do so qith all cores ,, to get the minimum , if a core acts instable you can go +1 up from minimum.
I also defalted all cores to 500 mhz so the minimum foor 500mhz is found.
be pacvient sometimes cores doe start in 2 minutes , but that you can see by the amerage , it will go over 1 ampt , end will go up / down etc... and than it kicks in to +40 amps.....
al core are diffrent so some are very sensitive so can have very little volt and some need more.
It proffs that the 20nm precede is far from perfect , this is why some cores run more hot then others , but by undervolting them you can solve a lot of this problem.
and again you NEEED a proper power supply for this ,, like I said a standard consumer supply will not do!
id needs to be 80 gold ceritifies as the EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2 1300W is.

And if you are not willing or understanding how  to do that you can reealy better sell your bonus neptune on ebay . because otherwise you will just burn it!
Iam sorry , but thats IMO the fault knc made , they thougt all custumers were Highly tech poepole that understand , software icm with asic technology icm with electronics..... for example the voltage / sinus of a cheap power supply is not good.
here see why! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-jG3vqRQHM as you can see the cheap PSU does wired things.....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mwV7YYiVT0 for knc you need gold!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCmLAtHcpdY (watch the osiloscope!!!!!) a bad psu will deliver crap osiloscope outputs!

Really? And you know this how? Show me where KNC say you need to be an electronics engineer to run these things.  Because I can show you where Sam Cole says they sell to anyone.
http://youtu.be/bxOHAha7MAk?t=45s

Sam Cole: "Yeah, sure, we're making ASIC mining equipment and we're selling to the general public. We're selling fully functional devices that anyone can come and buy."
(Thanks Teslaman)

If you have the skill and the aptitude to babysit and rebuild your miners and are happy to do so, have at it. But don't blame us customers for being pissed off when the FULLY FUNCTIONAL DEVICES we bought don't work as advertised and KNC tell us to go fuck ourselves.

As you don't mind a bit of "tinkering". I've got some lovely property in down town Damascus you might be interested in. Open plan, panoramic views, in slight need of renovation.

Give me a shout if you're interested. Cheesy

I spoke too soon.  Got a reply today.  Authorized KnCMiner Forum is NOT in the plans to return:

Hi,

We have updated our web presence to better represent our refocused business models and the decision was made to remove the forum as there are many other larger forums on the web with information and support for our products. We feel that running and maintaining a forum is not part of our core business plan.

Bunch of noise.

I did immediately contact their "support" (aka non-support) asking if the forums were lost of if they'd return... crickets.

Last week, KnC tweeted (https://twitter.com/kncminer/status/575024006312689664) that they are in the process of updating their web presence - implying that the forum will return.

We're in the process of updating our web presence, if you have a question pls contact r support dep. via kncminer.com

Then again, it seems folly to believe what they tell us.

Thanks.  I am running two Power & Cooling Silencer Mk III 850 W PSU's.  Good quality, right?  I was under the impression I have some of the very best PSU's.

I had just upgraded to 2.00 firmware.  Just beware!

Make sure you have a working smoke detector and no paper or wood underneath the connector.  Melting plastic is not good.

But the 2ndary cause behind the burned connector was the I had temporarily connected the Y-cable without one of the leads -- so it was being supplied with just one power feed.  The primary cause was the design -- using connectors not rated for such power loads.

Exactly.  Plus this tonight... melting Titan PSU power connectors.

Generally for all Neptunes and Titans I recommend good quality cables and connectors to keep them running reliably. Like a good 16AWG y-cable. I have mine done by Shakmods, running non-stop since September @ 500MHz "burn-less" Tongue

BONUS NEPTUNE OWNERS BEWARE!

As mentioned before, the Bonus Neptunes do not have thermalpads on PWM modules and the included fans do not provide enough airflow.

But here comes the good part, there are other "bonus" features:

Badly installed heatsink with bad contact to ASIC heatspreader
http://abload.de/img/r00203371uol1.jpg

Someone during assembly left a Torx screwdriver head inside the Neptune Cube! Shorting circuits FTW!
http://abload.de/img/r0020338xwscl.jpg

I have never seen such an amateur work, and I am deeply disappointed. Apart from the ASIC chip itself, KNC machines look like a high-school science project.

I understand their desire to refocus their efforts.  But while he's right that there's better forums, that does not mean that all of the information originally in the KnCMiner Forums is also readily available elsewhere.  There's still archive.org, but having looked for old information before, I know that stuff hangs by a very, very fine thread.  I wish they had announced their intention earlier, so I could have made a full public mirror first.
Time to mirror the archive.org copies. Only 12,912 URLs.  Hold my beer I got this

Two weeks after delivery and I have finally opened the box of my bonus 2-for-1 Neptune.

Just to confirm: my 2-for-1 Neptune is a new machine. It isn't an old Neppy from the Datorhall, there is not a speck of dust.

Ironically, I might have been better off with an old Neppy from the Datorhall, because apparently the new fans aren't as good as the old ones. I don't know yet because I haven't powered it on.

One annoyance: one of the cubes is broken. The bolt that secures the heatsink to the case has sheared off from the case (leaving a hole in the case)... meaning that the heatsink is tipped over and not making contact with the ASIC.

Once I get some PSUs, I'll plug it in. I'm not buying new PSUs, I will finally switch off some old machines (including a Jupiter and an AntMiner S1) and will use those PSUs. The Jupiter has been running 24x7 since 25th October 2013... it was my first decent miner.
Replace the fan  with theese http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=84&lng=en
put in fw 1.06s download it here
https://github.com/KnCMiner/images/raw/master/Neptune/neptune-1.06s.bin , get a propper PSU like the evga 1300 g2 supernova
if you do that you can undervolt it quite well so it uses about ~ 3.8 TH @ 1850 watt per miner.

Thanks for the tips. Undervolt to 3.8TH/s? My old Neppy only gives 3.4TH/s @ 1990W... are the bonus ones more efficient?

Also: Damn, my old Neppy controller "died" last night. The display screen comes on, but remains blank and the system doesn't boot up.

Hopefully it's just a software issue. Is there a way to recover using a micro-SD card or something?

Run a Bitcoin node, support the network.

Oke thats a known thing but for your not bonus neppy you can ask for a new beagle at support!
the beagle bone is the black print....
http://beagleboard.org/BLACK (if broken)   ,,, yes you can recover with a sd micro sd card card...
thats easy ,,, unzip this file
this is a copy my server because could not find it on the knc pages.
imzip thison a micro SD put it in the little slot on the Beglebone ,,, disconect ALL conectors to the cubes..
start the begle bone it wil start yiou will see the light burn , first a blue one and when yoi see a flashing green one the flashing is finisched ,,, then remove sd card.
restart controler , and it will bootup if evrythiung went well
connect the cubes ,, you will find all cubes running on 50mhz.
now you upograde to 1.06s lasterst firmware.
that yiu can find here https://github.com/KnCMiner/images/raw/master/Neptune/neptune-1.06s.bin

found the knc support page http://www.kncminer.com/support/neptune-setup-and-firmware

Download the following file: http://www.kncminer.com/downloads/support/naptune/SD_Neptune_rc6.zip  zip and follow the instructions below.

 1) Copy the ZIP file to an SD card and unzip the content of the archive on to the micro SD card formatted with FAT file system.

 2) Turn the miner off via the power supply off switch and disconnect from the wall.

 3) Insert the micro SD with the recovery files on it in to the SD card slot on the controller board

 4) Reconnect the power supply and turn the power on.

 5) Please wait while internal MMC flash memory is reprogrammed there will be a sequence of LED as follows:

A bright white light will flash inside the miner once, then a blue light will come on for around 30 seconds. Once the MMC has been programmed a green light will flash constantly. It means that the procedure completed.

 6) Turn the miner off again and disconnect from the wall.

 7) Eject the micro SD card from the controller board.

Cool Plug in all the cables that were unplugged and ensure that they are secured.

 9) Reconnect the power supply and power on. The miner should then start from the on-board MMC flash with the software revision Neptune_rc6.

 10) The LED screen should then display the IP address.

If this does not resolve your issue, contact support.

If it al worked you can upgrade the fw to 1.06s using my links and the normal upgrade menu.

good luck!

Details on Titan and Titan Cube:

Each ”Titan” consists of 4 cubes + 1 controller card box.

Each Titan miner consists of four 28nm chips, each chip comes in a sturdy enclosure and packaging, including fan cooling.

The performance of the batch 1 Titan miners is 300+ MH/s while consuming approx. 1100 Watts.

Power

The recommended PSU set up per Titan is 2 x 850w power supplies. One 6-pin connector is required per Cube, and there are 4 Cubes altogether on a Titan, plus a controller board in it's own box. They can all draw their power from 2 x 850w PSU:s

The PSU PCIe-connector required is a 45750 Mini-Fit® Plus HCS Crimp Terminal Crimped to 16 AWG wire.

(We will be providing additional Y cables for the Titan miners at a later date which will allow a greater range of power supplies and cables to be used)

Each Titan Cube uses a high-quality PCI-E-type connection and draws approximately 270 watts at it’s port, depending on firmware settings and updates (subject to change).

These ports are fan-cooled and can handle the power (rated 13A), but make sure you’re using high-quality PSU:s, connectors and cables. Be careful when inserting and removing connectors as wear and tear may damage connectors. The act of inserting/removing cable connectors into ports degrades connection surfaces every time it’s done and should be minimized.

We’re continuously optimizing the Titan firmware and some of the figures here may change slightly due to updates as we’re fine-tuning for best possible performance.

I spoke too soon.  Got a reply today.  Authorized KnCMiner Forum is NOT in the plans to return:
Typical KnC, they just nuke all of the information, screw the customers.

I have never seen such an amateur work, and I am deeply disappointed. Apart from the ASIC chip itself, KNC machines look like a high-school science project.
Good to see someone else confirming the pitiful excuse of KnC's work. Cool The torx bit is just sad. Does that Cube still work? I don't know though, I think that may be an insult to high school students, lol. Maybe more like...trained monkeys? Tongue

KnC's Neptune Reflash Guide did not get me up and running with my BBB, so I edited/wrote my own:
01) Download: http://www.kncminer.com/downloads/support/naptune/SD_Neptune_rc6.zip
(haha, we have Nappys now everyone! Tongue So true, KnC is a soiled nappy)
02) Format the microSD card with the FAT32 file system and make bootable as HDD with software like RMPrepUSB, or similar.
03) Unzip the contents of the archive onto the microSD card.
04) Turn the miner off via the power supply switch and disconnect from the wall.
05) Disconnect all ASIC boards from the controller.
06) Insert the microSD card into the BeagleBone Black's microSD card slot.
07) Reconnect the power supply and turn the power on. Leave the ASICs disconnected.
08) Please wait while internal MMC flash memory is reprogrammed. There will be a sequence of LED light flashes as follows:
  - A bright white light will flash once.
  - A blue light will come on for around 30 seconds.
  - A green light will flash constantly, once the MMC has been programmed and the procedure is completed.
09) Turn the miner off and disconnect from the wall.
10) Eject the micro SD card from the controller board.
11) Securely reconnect the ASICs, followed by the power supply and turn the miner on.
12) The miner should now boot normally, displaying Neptune_rc6 and the IP address on LCD equiped models.
(We were too cheap to include LCDs on the Bonus Miners. SOL.)

If you follow KnC, you'll screw around with attempting to format with the old FAT file system, then it still won't work, because the BBB just boots from the internal memory and laughs at you. Tongue I later heard that you might be able to press the small "boot" button on the BBB to boot from SD? I have no idea there.

I feel like it's been too long since I told KNC to go fuck themselves.

KNC, go fuck yourselves.

I use Sandisk 8gb Class 10's ...I just got 5 new in package the 48ms or whatever versions micro SD's on ebay for total price with shipping of $34 bucks.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/330901274432?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

anyway the above ebay seller came thru ...exactly as advertised...I thought the price was pretty good...to anyone looking. But I definitely get a 4gb or 8gb and make sure they are class 10 microSD's in my view. (my original that came with the Titan from KNC was a Kingsington 4gb class 4 piece of crap that died a week after I got it...just saying)

i always do a complete reformat on upgrades ..keeping the last upgrade SD as a set aside/spare ..in this case 1.97 as a catastrophic backup.ie I don't like the version I just tried or it don't work ...to my satisfaction.....i simply pop the old microSD back in...

got the 5 pack due to having 2 Titans now....not that KNC is gonna offer ANY upgrades above the
Titan 2.00 firmware imho (perhaps a bunch of upgrades for the new board/better more robust supposed chip versions in batch 2 for 400mh if/when ever
the ship them...likely imho not backward compatible....if they really did change the boards....but with the IMAGE of 2.00 I bet it is the last upgrade for batch 1 units from KNC...my guess anyway.

dang still wish i would have archived the knc forums site the last i can find on wayback machine was like 0ct 6th if I remember 2014 and they simply refer to the fact that
the titan bricks were not working at that point in time and catching on fire etc (fun times).

Gonna be a real pain in the ass for Titan 2nd batch customers.... if the only way they can get official knc support is via email...hopefully they will trip over this
support thread via google...lord knows i suspect they are gonna need help from those on this thread badly!

I am constantly surprised at KNC's actions...you'd think that would have passed by now....go figure....still they always manage to ratchet the whole fiasco ..just that one notch
deeper into the depths of darkness...BFL imho was a scam ...but the ego of those guys was such I think they actually thought they could get their equipment out in time (till they could not) as to KNC the whole thing from day one seems to have been a well planned and executed scam to get their data hall made with the 1st gen units and screw us out of all the $$$ they could till they walked...BFL was completely clueless and KNC was completely methodical in their quest for ...as sam cole puts it .. to control 40% of all mining of bitcoin.

well 'eventually' my 2 Titans will mine themselves into 'doorstop' status like the knc jupiter and I can put this whole experience far behind into the fog of 20/20 oops!..hindsight..
(now I know what former cult members feel like and/or former amway salespeople have to go thru..the horror!)

whatever....got to admit thou as evil genius plans go...it rates right up their in $$$ and evilness..well played knc well played......

I use Sandisk 8gb Class 10's ..
[..] on ebay

Its pretty much guaranteed those are fakes. The vast majority of "sandisk" sdcards on ebay are fakes. Check for yourself:

The only way to test them are on computer slot to measure the speeds.  On Android phones the OS is limits  the speed and cache for the sd card and internal memory to conserve resources

Wrong. That might work for some people, but it did not for me. I formatted it over and over again for my second hand Neptune and it never loaded the microSD card. It finally worked when I added the "Boot as HDD" function. I have read others talking about pressing the boot button to get it to load, so I know I am not the only one. One example from a quick google search:

Also, I assume you mean GB, not MB, lol.

I had four cubes that had dead dies.  I shipped in three of them six weeks ago and still have not heard when they are coming back.

Thieves.

If Linux is a requirement for a basic format, then the majority of people will be SOL and will need something more. These BBB are the only things I have that run Linux and that won't be changing. I actually want to save people the headache I went through, not omit key information from the instructions.  Roll Eyes
