Am I right in reading that they have updated the user accounts with day 1 or day 2 shipping info? If so, has anyone checked their account and seen where this is listed? Mine does not show any shipping information.

Wow, read dude, the update was all of a few hours ago!
I did. From my understanding they will offer upgrade modules shortly. So if you have e.g. a Saturn, you can order an upgrade module. But that's a separate order, separately shipped.

+1. This is what makes sense to me. At this point, anything ordered that's new with a chip in it should be in queue behind all the other orders.

Meh, I'm not going to cry over someone with 1 Saturn upgrading to 1 Jupiter to the extent that it would delay their shipment by weeks to have two small modules added if production can be ramped up enough not to effect the current order days promised...

I certainly would complain. We're all in a queue and those early investors derive the benefits (or losses) over those more hesitant to commit. If 100 orders get upgraded from Saturns to Jupiters it means that someone with order number 3000+ might wait an extra week to get their order - how is that fair? I honestly don't think it'll affect my orders, but it's a matter of fairness. Otherwise why would we not all have ordered 2X as many Saturns and just have waited until the units are nearly shipping to upgrade them?

I hate to compare, but even BFL doesn't allow for upgrades after the order is placed.

Yes, but the point is no one foresaw upgrades, so no one bought multiple Saturns with the intent on upgrading to multiple Jupiters. It's only ever going to be one odd order for one Saturn at most. Anyone that could afford more than one Saturn, would have naturally bought a Jupiter anyway...aside from the one odd case above. In the grand scheme of things, it matters not!

From a standpoint of policy, the fewer loopholes the better. Someone will somehow
take this upgrade exception and figure out 1,000 permutations and end up with all
the rigs. (Just sayin'... Wink )

Anyone have an idea how long shipping/customs will take from Sweden to the U.S.?

According to my calcs the hosting fees equate to about 3.62 days worth of lost mining revenue.  If shipping takes more than 3.6 days then it makes more sense to have them host it.

I'm estimating 850 watts per Jupiter and 40% network difficulty increase per month until September.

This of course factors in shipping costs and the cost of purchasing a Power Supply.

edit... the hosting premium is in bitcoin and shouldn't have a $.

As a side note, what in the world is KNC going to name their next (bigger) rig?
They kinda' went straight for the biggie planet there...

Oh, I know....introducing the 2015 KNC "SUN" - A bright spot in the otherwise dark world of bitcoin mining.

That's *if shipping goes smoothly.  If it's US to UK, they literally kidnap the item and don't tell you for a week or two, unless the courier company contacts you, customs is very, very slack here, and they have the front to charge you a holding fee!!

I've had many expedited items delayed to the point they are no longer expedited. Shipping within the EU is fine as VAT will have been paid.

BFL did allow for upgrade options.
5GH/s to 7GH/s
and
Jalapeno to Little Single or Single.

you would think when ordering chips and circuit boards they (KnC) would order thousands at a time.
I don't think throwing a couple extra circuit boards in the shipping package with original order would slow the production line down.

And even if they did decide to install themselves you would think to add extra work force to keep up the production line original pace.

Well if this were my business that's how I would plan to run it.

Plug your order number into the order tracking box on the KnCMiner home page.  Your shipping comments should be listed there.

I believe if you contacted KnC they would say October.
there's never been any mention yet that anyone will be getting there miners in November.

So you're still in for a good chance at October delivery.

this is my thoughts only, but it does make sense  Smiley

Something tells me that if there was any scamming afoot, the hosting option would not be priced as it is. Perhaps electricity is more expensive there, but that just seems a bit high? Was figuring they would take a percentage of the coins mined, but the release reads like payment may be requested in USD? Just have to wait for more details and see I guess. After reading that portion of the update, I'm now seriously thinking about having my unit shipped.

If they payment is request in USD, Then just think about how you have so many more possibilities of "refunding" your money.
IE you payed with CC/Paypal USD=Refundable
If you payed with the Glorious Bitcoin, then you cant Refund on your own, You need them to do it for you, and they will have to to a conversion rate and hand you back equivalent USD.
So why not just stay on USD?

I highly doubt they would calculate conversion amount into the equation, they have no control over the fluctuations in price, and would make no sense for them to convert from a business standpoint.

Thanks Merv -- I guess the KnC guys aren't active here?

KnC site only says starting shipment in September and queue depth is always hard to determine.  Almost as hard to determine as the likelihood of them actually shipping the first units in September  Cheesy

I mean:

-> e.g. you ordered and payed for a Saturn on 20th June
-> Now you upgrade to Jupiter lets say on 10th August - you also do your "upgrade" payment on 10th August

What is the "paying" date for your order? 20th June oder 10th August? As far as I understood this will have big impact on delivery date of your machine due KnC said "First paid, first serve".
I think the order/payment position of your Saturn remains, and the new order for the upgrade gets a new position.

Meh w.r.t. production you're talking of a module or two added to an existing order, not a brand new order of multiple units. No one will have ordered multiple Saturns when they could pay less for Jupiters and an odd Saturn at the end if that's what they could afford at the time. So even in that example at worst it's an additional two modules to an order...

Hehe - that being said. I ordered 2 Saturns instead of 1 Jupiter Cheesy - Feels stupid now omg

Why?? Surely you could have that altered. Not only is it additional funds, surely it's wasted additional electricity?!

I ordered one Saturn -.... and decided for a second later on - will surely merge them in case of given possibility. Let's wait how the new shop will look like :-)
Why not upgrade one, sell the other when it is in-hand... might pay off a bit.

In Europe you easily pay 0,30$ per 1000W/h. We use too much green energy here Wink

0,3$*24h*30days = 216$ alone for energy per month.... :-/

So from my point of view pricing is ok

I don't know about that. According to www.energy.eu electricity rates for industry are 0.07764 euros/kW and residential rates are 0.20092/kW . I can't imagine that a data center would pay residential rates for electricity so to me this looks to be on the expensive side...

Why does someone buy a hosting service:

1) Redundancy - UPS systems , generators etc. total power outage failsafe (this means that for every W of power used, it is also reserved in the DC's backup systems)
2) Abnormal power & Cooling requirements guaranteeing longevity for equipment for air humidity etc.
3) Security - would you put your moneymaker in a bank enviroment or in your mattress at home?

4532) Power costs. many datacenters use green power because the amount of power generated from one single datacenter has a huge carbon footprint.

for me its a no-brainer for my jupiter. keeping shipping /VAT / power consumption and common sense, its going in a hosted enviroment.
