I hate to compare, but even BFL doesn't allow for upgrades after the order is placed.
BFL did allow for upgrade options.
5GH/s to 7GH/s
and
Jalapeno to Little Single or Single.

you would think when ordering chips and circuit boards they (KnC) would order thousands at a time.
I don't think throwing a couple extra circuit boards in the shipping package with original order would slow the production line down.

And even if they did decide to install themselves you would think to add extra work force to keep up the production line original pace.

Well if this were my business that's how I would plan to run it.

And look how much confusion its added Tongue
I mean, they almost didn't want to ship Little Singles like they promised in the order queue positions. Jody originally told people yes, then no, and went back to yes. It would've been a poop show.

I pre-ordered early and purchased 2 jupiters and 1 saturn and requested hosting for all 3. Now They say they will not host saturn units so I would like to upgrade the saturn unit without losing my place in the shipping queue which seems fair.

As a side note, what in the world is KNC going to name their next (bigger) rig?
They kinda' went straight for the biggie planet there...

Oh, I know....introducing the 2015 KNC "SUN" - A bright spot in the otherwise dark world of bitcoin mining.

Sirius? Beetlegeuse? Plenty of options. Wink

Osiris (which happens to be 2.5 times the size of Jupiter) is one of 4 unofficially named extra-solar system planets.

I mean:

-> e.g. you ordered and payed for a Saturn on 20th June
-> Now you upgrade to Jupiter lets say on 10th August - you also do your "upgrade" payment on 10th August

What is the "paying" date for your order? 20th June oder 10th August? As far as I understood this will have big impact on delivery date of your machine due KnC said "First paid, first serve".
I think the order/payment position of your Saturn remains, and the new order for the upgrade gets a new position.

Meh w.r.t. production you're talking of a module or two added to an existing order, not a brand new order of multiple units. No one will have ordered multiple Saturns when they could pay less for Jupiters and an odd Saturn at the end if that's what they could afford at the time. So even in that example at worst it's an additional two modules to an order...

Hehe - that being said. I ordered 2 Saturns instead of 1 Jupiter Cheesy - Feels stupid now omg

Why?? Surely you could have that altered. Not only is it additional funds, surely it's wasted additional electricity?!

I ordered one Saturn -.... and decided for a second later on - will surely merge them in case of given possibility. Let's wait how the new shop will look like :-)
Why not upgrade one, sell the other when it is in-hand... might pay off a bit.

Ya, possibly a nice option - depending on how this whole story continues - ... so many unknown factors...

I don't know, I think they've unwittingly destroyed their potential upgrade path.
My vote is they change all new rigs to aquatic lifeform names and start off with
something really small like the "SEAHORSE 800" and build up to the "BLUE WHALE
ONE BILLION". That should give them a little breathing room. Wink

Does it concern anyone that Bitfury has chips in the field being tested with images and videos available?
Will we see similar from KNC? Aren't they both projecting miner availability in September?

Not really-  hedge your bet and order from them too if you are worried.  You can get a refund here as well

Last thing we need is another 80 pages of worry before sept

I do have early orders in for miners from both sources.  That's why I noticed the difference.

Why are you expecting this kind of video from KNCminer when it's pretty obvious that the ASIC wafers are still in production? You can't have a prototype video without the chips!

They already did a video with the FPGA prototype.

I guess that's my point. Metabank and KNC both collected pre-order money in early June.  Metabank's Bitfury chips have been manufactured but KNC's have not. It may just be a difference in schedule priorities. Just wondering...

The difficulty would have to be around 1,450,000,000 (Yes 1 Billion 450 Million Difficulty) for a 400GH Machine @ $350/month to not break even anymore at current BTC Prices (which I estimate are low)

Hopefully you can pay off your machine before that point Tongue

Before this, I have to calculate the sum carefully. 400T may not raise 4 times higher at this point.

maybe you all need to learn how to visit kncminer.com and learn to read.

We have a short status update for everyone.

Shipping days

As most of you are aware we have added Day 1 or Day 2 to the orders which were based on pre-registrations. This is mostly complete now with only a few exceptions needing to be solved. Going forward we will add Shipping weeks to the other orders such as Week 1 or Week 2.  This will happen nearer the end of August so until then you can assume that shipment queue is based on payment date.

Chip progress

We get a lot of questions about where we are in the process of our production. We would like to assure you all that we are on track for the first shipment in September
The Chip manufacture is currently in production of the Chips and all other sub components that need to have been ordered at this stage have been.

Hosting

We have our final costs for hosting which will be 350USD per Jupiter per month with a 6 month contract as a minimum, We will only allow the Jupiter models to be housed in our secure location.
There will be a mining pool onsite that will charge a very low pool fee around 2%. Only hosting customers will be allowed to use our mining pool.
More information on the hosting will follow

Upgrade Modules

We will be adding to our shop the upgrade modules to allow customer who have purchased a Saturn to upgrade their order to a Jupiter. The same goes for a Mercury upgrade to a Saturn. These upgrades will be available in the next few days.

Bitfury got just sample chips 5gh on video only 1,2gh passive cooling, they even do not now what happed with chips at 5gh with cooling. The knc if it's true 100gh per chip doesn't need so many per unit.
I know it's stupid question but is pre bordering ope

No Mars, they decided against FPGA.
Mercury orders (single chip 100 GH/sec ASIC) is open.

That just shows the importance of KNC producing a chip early enough to iron out any problems.  Remember BFL announced a flaw in its chip design back in November 2012 and we all know how that turned out...

Except that the KNC chips are MASSIVE in size (expensive to produce) and the Bitfury chips are TINY (and thereby CHEAP).

KNC - ~3000mm2
BitFury - ~16mm2

I've gone over this before about why HUGE chips are very very bad for profitability (i.e. low chip yields)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=244584.msg2680796#msg2680796

In full disclosure, I have a Bitfury order in process.  I bought it because that was looking to be first to market when I made my purchase.  I also have Terrahash on order, and that's looking to be a painful experience.
