The network will stay, but if exchanging Bitcoins becomes a prosecuted criminal activity (or there will be discussions to ban it) most people will tend to sell their bitcoins and that will result in huge price fall. For now it is legal mostly because every government sees it as a sign of ongoing technical progress and doesn't want to let other countries benefit from it. China could have easily banned Bitcoin much more strictly, but they are just trying to get it under control. If, for example, Donald Trump, starts looking at Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as a safe financial haven for terrorists, bribers, tax evaders and drug dealers, everything will change (national security first, you know it...).

However, it's very good for Bitcoin that all transactions are visible, because it allows intelligence agencies to trace all transactions. So I believe they are going to benefit from Bitcoin for now rather than just ban it.

Yes the best reason to choose bitcoin over fiat is because of its taxless ability . You can earn more in bitcoin not just because it's value is changing faster than fiat but also it has no tax. Indeed, bitcoin's valuability is one of the reasons why all of us here prefers bitcoin than fiat. In bitcoin, its price is always fluctuating compare to fiat's price which is fixed, it also change but not that big like bitcoin. So, being a bitcoin users is one of the advantages that a single person could have, because he is superior to others who don't know bitcoin, because he is making more profits in using bitcoin compare to those people that only know is to earn fiat and close-minded in things like this thinking that it was just a scam.

Why more Bitcoin users prefer bitcoin over fiat means first reason is yes Bitcoin is taxless and to use bitcoin there is no restriction. And now we got a lot of options to make money from Bitcoin. And the price is also helping people to use more bitcoin over fiat. And one more thing is in some country the currency value is very less for them this bitcoin will giving nice profit. OP said that he is hurt by the way how bitcoin was used by many in their malicious activities. He doesn't asked if it is a good way to earn compared to anyone's salary.

Anyway, it's part of a thing that has value, it is being used as tool to be used either in good and bad. We have nothing to do about it. The only way we could help is to not doing what those crooks are doing with their bitcoin.

Yeah, we have amit that, more people are using bitcoin nowadays and that number will grow faster and bigger in the next 3-4 years. About your sadness, I have same feeling too, I mean the main reason for people to use bitcoin is an anonymous method to transfer payment, and ofcourse, that is a very appropriate for those system that you've told about. They will feel danger-free to buy-sell every with bitcoin. I agree with you that block chain technology is a developed breakthrough but to have a "cleaner" market of bitcoin, we should talk more and do more about that not just cry for.

But that is not the reason why OP is disappointed about people who prefer bitcoin over fiat.

He is disappointed on how it is used in wrong ways and on ways that we don't regularly do like in live porns and drugs and other things that could stain the good name of bitcoin.

IMO, they prefer bitcoin as it doesn't require putting your own name in it while paying, as simple as that, you almost don't leave a trace when you use bitcoin in illegal things except if they are already watching you and your bitcoin  before you do the transaction, but still, it's hard to locate your location.

while with fiat the simple holding of a big amount put you in a position to pay taxes, even if you don't use them, which is stupid

Bitcoin is easy to transfer and they do not know who is the owner of any bitcoin wallet.  Thats why many people use it in illegal activities like you said they pay using bitcoin.  And some reason thats why they choose bitcoin because they can stored it safely and no need bank account details to used it.

Porn, gambling, drug dealing and other illegal activities are not invented after bitcoin! This is around us for centuries, just in this 2017 people find easier to use bitcoins for that, and I salute that. That is what makes bitcoin a currency, anyone can use it in the same way like you can use dollars, euro's or any other fiat currency, and we know that you can do illegal things with any of them.
Society is unhealthy for another reasons. You miss something here, bitcoin doesn't have nothing with that, blame politics, governments, they are guilty for everything.

That's not the main reason why some people choose bitcoin over fiat, we the supporters of bitcoin chooses it because we believe we can get benefits form it in the future. As it continue to exists we see the value increases as well and that is what we are after.

Some holders uses their bitcoins in illegal transactions but there is no difference with fiat since it can also be used with the same transaction, and in fact, more people are using fiat for illegal transactions than with bitcoin holders.
