Identification facilitates crime.
#1 reason I use my passport for ID: It has my name, DOB, signature, and a stamp saying some Govt says I am who I am. No address, no state/region, no driving history, credit history, or whatever. If that is what you must know, that is what you will know. No more.

Let me share a curios and a little unpleasant story. In my country, a large part of the population ID's expires this year. The government has decided to extend this period by another year due to the covid crisis and to avoid crowds. So far so good. But I started receiving letters from all crypto exchanges that my ID has expired. And now I have to write letters to the support, to explain myself to them to give me access to my accounts. I do not currently have access to any exchange and I have to wait days, probably weeks for this issue to be resovled. This sucks.
I was denied a credit card because my DL was expired, even though my passport was valid. What does driving have to do with credit??? My bitcoin wallet never expires. I was denied entry to a bar once because my DL had expired. I was 29 at the time. How dare you?

Bitcoin’s Lightning Network Is Getting a Marketplace for Payment Channel Liquidity.Today, Lightning Labs announced the release of Pool, “a non-custodial, peer-to-peer marketplace for Lightning node operators to buy and sell access to liquidity,” according to a press release. The service will allow Lightning Network users to lend out bitcoin in payment channels in return for yield. Businesses and services providers can then draw on this liquidity when needed to manage Lightning Network payment flows.
“Efficient capital allocation is one of the most widely felt pain points when using the Lightning Network. Existing node operators do not have access to pricing signals to help determine where in the network their outbound liquidity should be allocated, and new node operators have no way to signal that they need new inbound liquidity,” the press release states.
“Lightning Pool brings these two sides together into a single market while allowing them to maintain custody of their funds.”

I was denied entry to a bar once because my DL had expired. I was 29 at the time. How dare you? I was denied (re-)entry to a bar once after I got out 2 minutes to make a phone call because I had no network connection inside. The security guy called his colleague on his intercom to actually go and check out if my jacket (having my ID in it) was indeed hanging inside. I think I was about 25 years old, and by the way, this was in a beer cellar somewhere in Munich, not in the US.

European countries in (partial) lockdown: France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Wales, England, Ireland, North-Ireland, Czech Republic, Austria, Greece, Poland, Italy, Portugal, Spain. Hospitals still struggling not yet overwhelmed. Regular care suspended while finding replacements for infected workers becoming harder which leads to even more pressure. Almost 600,000 new daily cases and deaths at records levels. Stay save.

While "Lockdown" in Austria is a kind of joke. Why? Fitness studios, indoor sport facilities, restaurants, theaters and bars are to be closed tomorrow. When going out between 8pm and 6am you need a good reason ("go for a walk" will do, though) and only 2 households (6 persons plus 6 children max) are allowed to meet, with the exception of 3 persons each living single. They are at 28% ICU capacities now (was 15% last week) with the usual exponential curve showing. This won't slow down anything, at least not within two weeks. New ICU patients grew 78% compared to last week. This is going to get very dirty. And the best thing is, the government obviously wants to save the winter tourism season, starting at the end of november. Nobody will come, even if they manage to drop to sub 1k newly infected per day. R0 is at 1.4 atm.

Easier to say than to do if you "have" to come to workplace, even only for a few days a week. TX is not "isolating", not even close, albeit we are at R0=1.05 just today, cases are building slowly (at the moment) as we are still in the 70ies temperature-wise.

The fact that governments and corporations are finding easier and more practical ways to apply their etatist rules is not my problem as such. My problem is the simple fact that these rules exist. (though I'm quite sure I'm preaching for the choir anyway)
