Chemotherapy obsolete? "Ceramide nanoliposome" uses liposomal delivery to target...

Penn State researchers have developed a new compound, called ceramide nanoliposome, that has the potential to replace radiation and chemotherapy in the future. This new drug is able to smart kill tumors, meaning it targets and destroys cancer cells while leaving healthy cells unharmed.

In 2005, James Adair, professor of materials science and engineering, biomedical engineering, and pharmacology and partner Mark Kester, director of NanoStar Institute at the University of Virginia and former professor of pharmacology at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, founded the biopharmaceutical company Keystone Nano with the goal of gaining the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) approval for nanoscale biomedical products, the Penn State News website reported.

After years of research and testing, the FDA finally gave the green light to begin phase one human clinical trials to assess the use of ceramide nanoliposome as a possible cancer treatment. With the trials, Keystone Nano hopes to find safe dosing levels and examine the compound's efficacy as an alternative cancer-fighting therapy.

Providing a greater window of treatment and no side-effects

Ceramide has previously been shown to possess strong anti-cancer properties. Its delicate structure, however, has stopped other researchers from using it in clinical tests to treat cancer. The Penn researchers used nanotechnology to coat ceramide in a fatty lipid layer to improve its stability in the body. This new and improved compound targets tumor cells, penetrates the cellular lining, and deposes its chemotherapeutic cargo in the cancer cell.

"Ceramide is a bioactive lipid that selectively kills cancer cells. At equal dosing, normal cells go to sleep, cancer cells die," explained Kester. "The problem is it precipitates. It falls out of solution. The only way to deliver it is to turn it into a nanoformulation, which is our intellectual property. Think of it as a very small FedEx truck that delivers on time, all the time but only to the cancer cells."

Thanks to the extra protective layer, or coating, weaved around the compound, ceramide has been found to have a much greater window of effectiveness compared to current chemotherapy treatments. A window of treatment is the gap between the dosage at which a drug becomes effective and when it becomes harmful to the patient. Therefore, drugs with a larger window or gap will have fewer risks.

Though clinical trials in humans will provide more information and proof of its beneficial effects, dozens of preclinical animal tests have shown that ceramide nanoliposomes are harmless to healthy cells and remain in the body attacking cancer cells for more than a day.

Yes. Avoiding the vaccination is a stupid thing. We are already seeing the negative effects of that in countries such as Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan, where the polio epidemic is spreading.

It is an important issue, yes, but I never met an anti-vaccine person that was convinced by arguments to vaccinate himself or his/her children. Vaccines are not the reason why they are more prone to the diseases compared to unvaccinated children.  As we can see, children without immunization are more susceptible to the disease their body are lack of antibodies that will fight the viruses or bacteria thats why they are the one who suffered more severely that the children with fully immunized. Whether or not vaccinated, still both of them are prone to disease but the only differerence is who among then have the higher percentage of survival, the one without receiving any immunization or the other one who is fully immunized.

It is not rocket science. Immunized children have a much higher life span when compared to those who are not vaccinated. I've been following Tomljenovic's and Shaw's research since I got interested in the subject of vaccines several years ago.  It's very compelling, and I'm glad to see this published.  I would expect that within a week the publisher retracts the study and these two scientists be widely condemned as frauds all over the mainstream jnews.  That's the way these things go time and time again.  These two people, and the other authors, are brave souls indeed.  I hope for a day when they are given the highest honors.  Not Nobel prizes which have become a sick joke.

Shaw and Tomljenovic's work on the brain tissue of girls who died from the HPV vaccine was very interesting (and shocking.)  At this point I've high confidence that vaccine regimes are first and foremost a eugenics program.  I know it sounds harsh and 'crazy', but there is just so much evidence out there to indicate it.

Of course she was joking in a certain way, but the idea is clearly in her mind and she is not alone.  That's the kind of people who sit on such panels making decisions about the average citizen's health.  When you get a bunch of people like those on this panel talking about 'for the future of our kids', it should not be taken on faith that the 'our kids' she is talking about are the same ones which are getting the shots.  I've heard numerous times that doctors scratch one-another's backs to make it so their kids get certified without actually taking the shots.  Of course that doesn't make it automatically true, but usually when I hear the same thing over and over again it turns out to have a basis in reality.  It's a certainty that if I had kids, I would seek out some sleezebag doctor and pay him/her off to empty the syringe into the sink and I'll bet I'm not the only one.

Also, it is worth note that Google is playing games with vids of this awful 'Baker' creature.  One (of many) clips of her rant usually show up in a Youtube search of the string 'carol baker', but if one sorts by date, nothing.  This in spite of the string being in the title of the vid.  When Google hand tunes results like this (and I've seen it on various occasions) you know the subject is important to the social engineers.  This is actually a fairly valuable marker.

Although the link between vaccines and autism is nothing new, to even speak of it can get you labeled as an "anti-vaxxer" or a health fanatic of sorts by the sheeple (brainwashed masses) that believe every vaccine the CDC recommends not only works, but is 100% safe and 100% effective 100% of the time. Even if some vaccines work some of the time, are they worth the health risk? That is the ultimate question, because one statistic you may not know is that children who receive mercury-containing vaccinations (listed as thimerosal usually) are 27 times more likely to develop autism than those who don't get those jabs. That comes from a recent study based on the CDC's own data. Still want to keep it a hush-hush topic?

Raises an interesting point. Does autism go down in communities where vaccination isn't as prevalent/is purposefully avoided? I suspect no, but this metric would go a long way in proving/disproving the link between autism and vaccinations.

The risk truly isn't worth it, people. It's a reason why these particular diseases were singled out, they cause great harm to the populace and are subject to rampant spread.  I think the majority of us would chose autism over possible death, ESP when that risk of autism is so miniscule.

I really just don't understand anti-vaxxers, how they go to that conclusion. Even as a kid I understood it's just like having chickenpox, except that you don't have to go through the process of getting sick. Some diseases are also dangerous since you don't know whether you have them and during all that time you can actually spread them. HPV causes several types of cancer. People in my country usually find they have hepatitis when they finally get liver cancer. My mom got malaria as a kid and so can't donate blood, apparently she's still a carrier. I know malaria can't be vaccinated against but I believe you understand where I'm getting at.
