Ooops, https://www.bitfinex.com/ hacked, DASH not effected Grin

Only BTC seems to be effected

Yep, mostly I meant that it's a good thing we aren't traded there any more

dont tell anyone but after having not traded over there for over 2 years (ever since they removed Darkcoin there)
i very very recentely started trading there, and then of course this happens ..  Embarrassed
at least i didnt have any bitcoin on there at this specific time, a big relief.

but i agree, its a good thing Dash isn't traded there anymore .. it could have easily became a target as well.

enough with your ramblings ...

the exchange and the hacker/s are not interested in your shitcoin

/end of story

now pump on for the newbs  Grin

And the Dash community seems to be focusing heavily on decentralizing governance and appears to have achieved some degree of success for their project.

Just crossed over the Dash Specifications on the mainpage and saw that you say No Premine.

But then when i look at the spreadsheet it says.
2015   4,800,000.00      4,800,000.00   27.17%         2640   0.52

How is it possible that 4,800,00.00 are mined in first year and just 997,951.57 in 2nd ?
If you wold decrease the rate by 7,1% as u state it would be 4,459,200 for 2nd year ?
What do i get wrong ?

You are just missing the Instamine, there was a lot of coins mined on the first 24 hours of the currency. You can read about it on the official wiki here

https://dashpay.atlassian.net/wiki/display/OC/Dash+Instamine+Issue+Clarification

There are links there to relevant information on the issue.

The other thing is that the new coin creation rate is not only affected by the 7.1% decrease. It is also affected by the hashrate. If the hashrate drops below a threshold, the number of coins created per block increases to incentivize miners. That means a lot of coins were created in the beginning of 2014 when the price was low and again at other points when the price was low in late 2014. Given the same hashrate, the coin creation drops by 7.1% each year.

There is a floor, though, so now that the price and hashrate are high, we have a great deal of certainty that the minimum floor will not be exceeded again. This means lower dilution for investors going forward than we've had in the past.

OK thanks.
Why didn't they just restart it ?

I mean i don't have a problem with the early adopter bonus and the guys who are behind it getting a fair share, but this basically is the same like premine ?

There was a vote back in the day to restart DASH - then called Darkcoin
The community to let the coin ride - no restart - so we did.....

Exactly what Mangled Blue said, except that at inception Dash was called Xcoin, later changed to Darkcoin, then finally to Dash. The community voted and decided not to relaunch.

You have to remember the era: it was January 2014, BTC/LTC had just gone through their big price explosion (BTC was still in the 800s, LTC in the 20s), and everybody and their mother was creating new altcoins in an attempt to get rich quick. Multipools were just getting going really well, and a number of coins were severely damaged when a multipool targeted them and then suddenly stopped mining.

There was some concern at the time that after a relaunch, all the early miners might lose interest and go on to one of the hundreds of other new altcoins. After all, they had already spent a full day (perhaps with significant hashpower) mining the coin, and if it was shut down and their time wasted, then why bother coming back for the relaunch? There were plenty of other very profitable coins to mine back then. In the very beginning of PoW coin, the miners are the entire community, and losing them would have meant the death of the project.

Finally, from rereading early posts in this thread, it appears that Xcoin was originally just a little side project of Evan's that wasn't intended to go anywhere or become a really big deal. He's said before, iirc, that he didn't get 100% serious about doing this (and quit his job to work on it full time) until he conceived the idea of Darksend (PrivateSend) a couple of weeks later. Had he known that Xcoin would eventually become a very serious project with a high marketcap and incredible technology, he very well might have done things differently.

And the reason the vote went that way is because it would have been hugely unfair to  people that were buying up the coins, only to have the coin immediately abandoned.  There are more factors to this than miners losing their "free coins".  And most miners just sold their coins as soon as they mined them, or soon after, so many of the holders of Darkcoin had bought the coins.

Yes that was unfortunate. And we had been harassed like hell because of that. I can understand some people think this is a motive enough to stay away from DASH. Thats a valid option.

However,

- As some fellow members said, we as a community decided not to restart the coin.
- The first weeks the coin was widely distributed, because Darkcoin was a shitcoin with no value at all! (I still have some logs of the exchanges at that time, geez, I wish I bought moar....)  There were no masternodes, no Darksend, no instantX, no governace, nothing. Only a talented and hard-working dev Tongue

The actual value of this coin is because the formidable work the devs and the entire community did since then. For me this enormous amount of development and good work overcome any mistake we did in the past. Thats my choice.

I still stand by my observation that because of the gush of coins, they were cheap, and they were sold many times over, making a much wider reach of coin holders than other coins (or other coins that are in the top of the market cap list)  So it gave us good distribution, it allowed Evan a safety net so he could quit his job with what he kept and bought (he was buying within the first days). And, it absolutely doesn't matter.  Why?  Because all crypto coins have centralized investors, so do all startups.  Anyone at any time who has the interest, can purchase Dash and be a part of this amazing project, they can run Masternodes if they like, and if they can't run one alone, they can join a shared MN.  The free market rules here at Dash.

Finally, none of this drama will matter for the ultimate users.  For these people, Dash is a service, a place to put your savings and grow your wealth.  It's a way to transact, to get paid, to pay others.  To make more Dash, one simply needs to accept it as payment for whatever goods and services they provide.  These people and companies, etc... will be the ultimate reason for Dash to exist and the visionaries at Dash never forget that.  Sure we all hope to make more value of our Dash, but we know the only way to do that is to fulfill the vision of Digital Cash.  Safe, in the User's possession and control at all times, and private.
