Bank of America Stops Lending to Several Gun Manufacturers, Strengthening Case for Crypto

Bank of America will cease providing lending services to companies manufacturing certain types of firearms.

As reported by Bloomberg, Bank of America, the second-largest bank in the US, will no longer lend to firearms manufacturers involved in selling semi-automatic rifles deemed “military-style” to the civilian populace. This comes after a wave of pressure on banks and payment providers to restrict their services provided to firearms manufacturers in the wake of recent highly-publicized shootings. Increasing financial pressure could cause manufacturers to cease production of controversial items or risk harm to their business.

Dash's price has been sideways for days before bouncing back today. There was lot of work done using the silence of bearish market which will bring just good with the return of this positiveness in the markets. At current price consolidation was just awesome for many people because at least 2x is must form here regardless where the price of Bitcoin goes.

If I had to guess, it was a short squeeze triggered by big players like possibly George Soros.  I wouldn't get too exited about an end to the bear market just yet. I remember all too well 2014 where almost every short squeeze was followed by a long squeeze soon after.  Remember, every short position is a promise to buy in the future. Every margin long is a promise to sell.  There are less promises to buy now. That should make us cautious.

Venezuelan NGO Helps Feed Children with Dash

The Venezuelan NGO, Fundación Sin Tabú, collected Dash donations and used those donations to feed deprived Venezuelan children not in school located in the Libertador municipality of the country’s capital, Caracas.

The non-profit will open a soup-kitchen in the preschool spaces of the Don Bosco school and will serve “at least one meal with the quality and nutrients that children need” to out-of-school children in the area. The initiative was part of the Alimenta Un Sueño program, which was a collaboration of many organizations, including the Alimenta Venezuela foundation. The program estimates that it will benefit 50 school-aged children, which will help greatly since the organization estimated that the number of malnourished children in the capital increased from 54% to 68% over just four months in 2017.

The NGO raised its current Dash funds when it started to participate in the Dash Venezuela conferences at the end of last year and began raising funds during the Dash City events hosted at the conferences. One NGO representative said “The donations that we receive in each Dash City space are destined to a project”. In their previous iteration of the event, they raise the equivalent of around $60 USD, which can vary from 2.9 million Bolivars at the official rate to 27 million Bolivars at the black market rate. For a frame of reference, a carton of eggs can cost a little under 10,000 Bolivars and a standard basket of groceries can cost over 700,000 Bolivars. Fundación Sin Tabú are contentiously seeking donations and even feature a Dash address and QR code on their website.

Dash's Community-led, Treasury-funded Initiatives Will Lead to Greatness

I have to confess that I haven’t been keeping up with the development of the Dash community and ecosystem nearly as much as I should. This happens from time-to-time, and is one of the only things that kept me sane during the terrible bear market of 2014 – 2016. If I shut my eyes really tightly and ignored things for awhile, it made those paper losses seem a little more bearable. Fortunately, we’re past all that, but it’s still possible to become a little disillusioned.

I’ve long believed that Dash’s treasury system is the most important feature of the project, and would become the prime driver of Dash’s growth in value over the coming years. You can imagine my glee last year as the treasury budget continued to grow – and my disappointment as hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of dollars went unspent every month. I kept wishing for more, bigger, Core Team proposals. I wanted to see us really reach for something big – code reviews, major marketing campaigns, things of that nature. I was disappointed and frustrated to see so much potential being lost each month.

But it is also important to be realistic. The times that DASH will make you 10,000% are over for now. Maybe in the very long run huge gains are still possible, but it is not going to be as crazy as it once was.

What Bitcoin’s Civil War Taught Me About Media Manipulation on Both Sides

I used to think that Bitcoin’s scaling drama would be over after the split to Bitcoin Cash. I also thought that those promoting Bitcoin’s use as a peer-to-peer currency were the “good guys” of the two sides. I was wrong on both counts.

Last week I noticed an article about Portsmouth, a nearby town I know very well, by Bitcoin.com. The article touted a local shop as “Bitcoin-only,” and mentioned the dozens of local shops that accepted it as payment. The problem is, the shop itself accepts a variety of cryptocurrencies, especially Dash, and even stopped accepting Bitcoin for a while, and the local businesses receive over 80% of their cryptocurrency sales in Dash. The article, however, mentioned Dash not once, despite embedding the video of my CNN appearance where I’m highlighted spending only Dash all over town. After I complained, the word “only” from “Bitcoin only” was removed from the headline, and the video, the single strongest piece of news about the article’s central subject, was removed entirely. Anything to avoid mentioning Dash at all.

The experience taught me an ugly lesson about the communities behind two of the largest cryptocurrencies in the world.

Tim Draper Predicts Upward Trend for Cryptocurrency

Tim Draper, the famed investor who once said “the world needs this new kind of currency”, now predicts Bitcoin will reach $250,000 USD by 2022.

Draper unveiled his prediction at his blockchain party and via tweet, even though he mistakenly proclaimed $25K in his first tweet, which was later clarified to be $250K. He even emboldened his prediction in a giant sign displaying “Tim Draper predicts Bitcoin @ 250K by 2022” outside his entrepreneurship program, Draper University. Draper did not expand on his prediction methodology.

Draper, who founded the venture capital firm, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and also lead successful investments in Skype, Tesla, Twitter, and SpaceX has said that he was attracted to currency not tied to a government, “so when Bitcoin showed up, I was all over it”. Draper is known to have purchased $30,000 in Bitcoin from the U.S. government during their liquidation of confiscated funds from Silk Road.

nChain Pulls Gigablock Testnet Funding, Highlights Bitcoin Cash Governance Issues

Bitcoin Unlimited has lost its funding from nChain due to public comments critical of its chief scientist Craig Wright.

According to a post by Bitcoin Unlimited’s chief scientist Peter Rizun, blockchain research and development firm nChain has discontinued its funding of the Gigablock Testnet Initiative, a long-term scaling experiment conducted by Bitcoin Unlimited. This was due to Rizun’s public comments criticizing nChain’s chief scientist Craig Wright over his claims on the security of zero-confirmation transactions as well as allegations of plagiarism:

“nChain informed BU — after I tweeted about CSW’s errors with respect to 0-conf security — that they would be winding down their funding of the Gigablock Testnet over the next three months. Shortly after I tweeted proof of Craig Wright’s plagiarism, nChain informed us that they would be terminating the Gigablock agreement effective immediately.”
