It's actually not on the master node any more (if you're smart enough to configure it that way).

does the second server has to run all the time or can i quit darkcoind after activating the masternode?

You can quit, like I said, I store my wallet offline and only had it online for maybe two minutes.

Wow this is awesome.  So you really don't have to worry about the coins at all then, just need to worry about getting knocked offline by ddos or something like that.

Anyone care to take a look at my proposed new Darkcoin site? Comments over here appreciated: https://darkcointalk.org/threads/new-drk-website.350/

Also, if anyone is up to writing guides for users, miners, masternodes hosts, that would be grand!

Here's the sample website on a temp host: http://darkcoinsample.hostoi.com/

Great work dude! I think this website is so much better than the current one that it should be changed as soon as all the content makes sense, even if its improved upon later.

+1

This is such a huge improvement over the current design.

Very nice work sir. It's a large improvement over the first design iteration. The colors fit nicely together, and the font is well chosen. A+.

The one thing you might consider changing is the header font color or background. The text blends in a tiny bit too well with the header background. Needs more contrast.

Im wanting to create a master node, i have experience in linux and work in IT, so should be pretty straightforward.
What i want to know is how many DRK do i expect per day with a master node at present?
From what i understand, the more masternodes that are running, the smaller the payout?

Masternode payments haven't gone into effect yet, they go into effect with RC2 which is not yet live - probably in the next week or so RC2 will be live.  Masternodes will get 10% of mining output, this equals about 900-950 coins per day, divided by the current number of masternodes.  Currently there are only 41 masternodes on the network (http://drk.poolhash.org/darksend.html), but I expect this number will climb rapidly once masternode payments go into effect.  So at the current level of 41 masternodes each node would be pulling in 23 coins per day.  Pretty damn good money actually. My guess is that in 2-3 weeks there will be 100-200 masternodes, so payments would be ~5 coins per day about.  Hope that helps. Smiley

I like the layout for sure, but there's something about the various shades of blue that don't quite go together in my opinion. Seems like they should be shades of the blue that is on the coin itself and if not, maybe other colors would compliment that blue.
Sorry. This sounds so negative after reading it back but it's just my 2 Duffs. Keep up the great work man!

I was thinking about the goverments (of the US and Europe mainly) and I think in the near future (with some “terrorist” excuse)  they will try to close the DarkSend masternodes system. We are now out of the focus of the media, but if Evan succeed (and I have no doubt about that) we will be exposed to all kind criticism.

The  anonimity is a real threat  to the goverments and powerful people. They will be very nervous in the next few months/years (if they are nervous with dark wallet, and they just need to hack one server....)

I think we must anticipate this possibility.

Our weakness link in the chain are the Masternodes. If we use external servers, we must spread it all over the world. It's no sense we all use the "Amazon" servers, because Amazon is a US company the US goverment can easily close that.

Maybe sounds paranoid, but I think our masternodes must be placed in servers of companies  located all around the world, in Russia, Southamerica, african or asian countruies (not in china, of course), etc...   Not only in US and EU.  This will make our Masternodes net more powerful.

My 2 duffs.

I agree, Sweden or Iceland are good choices for servers.
ill be running masternodes in sweden :-p

ill swing by with

the new team ill purchase with my darks.

Iceland will be running a Dark masternode as well Wink

I was under the impression that only the masternode chosen received the 10% reward, not all of them.

Right now it's actually closer to 665 DRK/day with the current reward at this level of difficulty. (11.56 drk/block x 576 blocks/day x 0.1 = 665.856 DRK for the masternodes to split up)

So let's say that there are 100 Masternodes, even at 6.65 DRK/Day per Masternode per day, that's quite an amazing deal. Thinking about it like that, there's gonna be a hell of a lot of masternodes and a price increase to go along with it. Right now you need approx 30 MH/s to get around 6.5 DRK/day, which I'm sure is above average for most mining rigs. Masternodes are effectively a new form of mining with their own profitability but with the advantage of having people hold minimum 1000 DRK and taking it out of circulation which avoids dumping. This is a new form of mining and more valuable to the network than simple POS, quite amazing.

How much money does it take to set up a 30 MH/s mining rig and how much work is to set it up (It's gotta be at least 3000$ + electricity costs?). A masternode on the other hand will currently run you approximately 1500$ for 1000 DRK and then maybe 5$ a month to set up a VPS with no further electricity costs. It's an amazing deal if you intend to mine Darkcoin.

Of course a mining rig can be reused for other coins as well but a masternode is simply set it and forget it, it generates revenue and secures/decentralizes the network without any further tweaking and without the possibility of a GPU failing and needing to be replaced.

I'd like to thank eduffield and the other developers for this critically important evolution in virtual currency. DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying: "DarkCoin is digital cash." - Child Harold - February 28, 2014

Come help test RC2, we have pool support now. We could use some GPUs and CPUs.

- We need some masternodes
- We need all pool operators must test the new patch for stratum

If all goes well we fork, release RC3 and opensource on May 14th. Sound good?

https://darkcointalk.org/threads/rc2-testing-with-pool-support.353/

WHOW, that is fast !!
I think we should take it easy on the open source (sure it has to be done) but no rush !
First we need darksend and master nodes to be running a 100 %
(tested to the MAX) … and then open source time !
Safety First ! ….>

I totally agree !
the terrorism paranoia might catch on to us … i was thinking more illegal money out of china and such … but this has to stand strong , decentralized, and uncrackable !! (Masternodes have to be spread as far as we can)
When we launch, it has to be a 100% ! (sure Evan knows this) …. because when it works …. it will be amazing and the governments will come for us !
there is no question about it !
So better to wait (open source) and have this a 100%, no rush !!!!

How might darkwallet impact Darkcoin?

http://www.wired.com/2014/04/dark-wallet/

Quote
Government regulators around the world have spent the last year scrambling to prevent bitcoin from becoming the currency of choice for money launderers and black marketeers. Now their worst fears may be about to materialize in a single piece of software.

On Thursday, a collective of politically radical coders that calls itself unSystem plans to release the first version of Dark Wallet: a bitcoin application designed to protect its users’ identities far more strongly than the partial privacy protections bitcoin offers in its current form. If the program works as promised, it could neuter impending bitcoin regulations that seek to tie individuals’ identities to bitcoin ownership. By encrypting and mixing together its users’ payments, Dark Wallet seeks to enable practically untraceable flows of money online that add new fuel to the Web’s burgeoning black markets

Well we've just had a huge pump and recovered just amazingly well. We're still close to 3x the value we had before this pump with a peak around 4.2x the value before the pump. DarkSend hasn't been open sourced yet though.

Here's a little graph to help you understand how Darkcoin price works for people who follow development versus people who only notice darkcoin when they are done with their pump and dump shitcoins.

That's what I am worried about as well. DarkSend must be open sourced for it to be taken seriously, but that should only happen once it is completely vetted and ready. RC2 is not even out yet and open source in 2 weeks??? that seems awfully fast compared to the previous development pace.  Thinking out loud here... but is Evan maybe trying to beat the Zerocoin whitepaper release?

Yep. It's pretty funny how many people out there lack the vision to see longer than a day or a week. They run around like a mob of chickens with their heads cut off, throwing their money in random directions with the faint hope they will become rich. They have the foresight of moles and the attention span of goldfish. They don't care about coins with legitimate futures, unless of course they heard about it in trollbox, in which case they buy at the top and bang their heads on desks when the dump truck buries them in shit.
