...asic only helps coins. gives them more hash power, secures the network, and overall generates more profit...
Are you nuts? If ASICs become the way of mining, then GPUs are out, and what is the point of GPUC??? Sure, they do help secure the network, but they make mining SEVERELY less profitable. Do you not understand what's happened to Bitcoin due to ASICs?

the voices in my head say i'm not nuts, so majority rules.
while gpuc is geared towards gpu only mining, you can still mine while asic miners are in the wild. it becomes harder but the easier a coin is to mine the less its worth. the majority of these posts are people upset their coins arent worth more and trying to figure out how to make it more valuble. i'm explaining why -n was a bad idea.
also by the time Script asic would hurt the market is about 1-2 years away, the majority of us will have made way more coins than we know what to do with by that time. survivability is the key here, you can't alienate miners and expect profit. would be like amazon, ebay, or some other merchant saying you can only buy from us if you're of xyz skin color. you loose a huge demographic of people that want to use the service.
the current asic out for scrypt only do 300-400kh, they are expensive, require additional hardware to run, and isn't profitable right now. there's not much to worry about as of yet.

How about selling the Nvidia GTX 750ti? It's pretty power efficient in terms of hash/watts, 34 watts OC'ed at 300 kh/s.

It's not 34W, I've no idea how cryptomining-blog measured those, but in reality each 750 ti draws ~70W from the wall (gold-platinum psu) when mining scrypt-n. Still pretty good though.

Right. I have 9 of these cards and it is NOT 34w. It is very dependent on the algorithm of the coin you are mining. ~70 for scrypt, scrypt-n, scrypt-jane n-factor 11. ~50 for hefty1, scrypt-jane n-factor 14. ~45 for fugue256 and ~35 for groestl.

Smashing rocks with my GPU

Here's an idea I just had; Create a section on the forum (or even a Wiki) for configuring video cards with Scrypt/Scrypt-N. Most particularly for the cards available for sale, but include any and all cards. If solid tutorials/facts about settings are created, have a section of the website dedicated to it.

I know that I, for one, had a difficult time finding the info (especially up-to-date info) on how to configure my cards and what the best settings were. I think that GPUC (website/community), as the primary crypto currency focused on GPU, should try to be there for people and make itself a centralized location for helping people with their GPU setups.

Check out this site for legit free BTC. It's like an hourly free lottery ticket that always pays out at least 300 satoshi, and could net you over .3 BTC if you're really lucky. Just gotta fill out a captcha each time. (basically a faucet with chance of real reward)

@vesperwillow stated that switching the algo to -n would hurt the coin. one of the main reasons for this is because asic only helps coins. gives them more hash power, secures the network, and overall generates more profit. the only downside of this is that some people dont understand that fact and want to move over to something only gpus can do. but we see where that has gotten us or any other currently asic restraint coin.

Vertcoin seems to be holding its own  Shocked

yeah however there are some serious differences between the coins, not to mention how they were marketed

vertcoin
Algorithm: Scrypt-Adaptive-Nfactor (Not scrypt-jane)
Generation: 84 million VTC
Block time: 2.5 minutes
Block Rewards: 50 coins per block
Subsidy halves every 840,000 blocks (~4 years)
Difficulty Re-Target Time: Retargets every block (Kimotos Gravity Well)
Premine: Zero - not premined

gpucoin
PoW Algorithm: Scrypt-N
Retarget: Every block using KGW
Block Time: 60 seconds
Initial Block Reward: 20,000
Max Supply: 13.5 billion

i'm no crypto master, but vertcoin having less volume and less of a reward automatically makes me think more value. no idea if thats generally the way it goes, but thats what would pop into my mind.
goes hand in hand with the amd gpu shortage, people ran out, and then companies started charging up to double the actual retail since they were getting harder to get your hands on.

this in theory makes me think that had we stuck to scrypt, even if asic was dropped on it. value goes up since its harder for smaller miners to get rewards. i'm no big miner, i've got a single 7950, but even knowing that asic is out there i'm not worried. asic would have to be put on every single coin for every coin to be effected. most people will mine 1 coin and stick to that 1 coin. not like every last asic in the world would be pointed right at gpuc. even if it were, the coins you'd mine would gain massively in price.
its just logic.
what would happen if right now every asic would simply shut off for 1 month on btc, you'd likely see a huge drop in price to where its worth as much as ltc.

That's not really fair since asics power 99% of bitcoin now. There are no FPGAs or GPUs securing the bitcoin network in any significant numbers.

It will take at least 6 months to a year for this to happen to litecoin, and all other regular scrypt coins.

None of you guys get it yet.  It doesn't really matter that it is scrypt-n, in fact that will help when
scrypt pools start getting huge hash from Asics and ruin scrypt coins. Then you will be glad gpuc is
scrypt-n.  And I do think as another poster pointed out that compared to vert coin we have way
to quick blocks, way too much reward 20,000/block, etc. I wish the devs would reduced the 20,000/block
as we are producing way too many coins at such a low net hash rate.  But ALL of this doesn't matter
at all with the lack of professionals viral marketing the coin.  This coin has a lot going for it, you can
actually purchase computer equipment with it, yet it is suffering from a clear lack of marketing and
advertising. EVERY new business needs to advertise to be successful.  If a retarded cartoon dog coin
can be in the top 5 of popular coins, with no real world use, all I can say is WTF? AND THEY HAVE
AWESOME MARKETERS, PROMOTERS, AND ADVERTISING. There is NO reason other than this that our
coin is dying and the ridiculous DOGE is thriving.

well i think its up to us miners to do the marketing.
we've asked how it was going to get marketed but nobody has come up with anything other than tweeting, facebooking, making graphics, and posting links in our sigs.

What really needs done is someone to advertise on popular sites.
you can buy adspace or even video ad time for w/e you want.

take twitch.tv for example, almost every last person streaming on that site wants to become a partner so they can make money playing games.
these are the people we need to market to, those with a vision of doing almost nothing and making money doing it.
not sure if changing up the coin will help, but i leave that up to you guys. personally i do think we generate too many coins.

anyone in marketing here want to help get the ball rolling?

On Friday the 4th of April GPU Coin is having a massive sale starting between the hours of 1700~2000 EST and going until stock is sold out.  The rest of the Sapphire Toxic R9 280X cards will be sold for $300 USD equivalant of GPUC at the market value and any person who orders a Sapphire R7 240 card at our already low price of $27 USD equivalant of GPUC will be entered in a drawing for another free R7 240, with a total of 5 winners.  Due to stock limits, we will be limiting purchases to one card per customer.

Do we have to purchase an R7 240 between the hours of 1700-2000 EST of April 4 in order to be entered in the raffle, or can we buy an R7 240 as long as supplies last and still be entered? Is there an exact cutoff date for participation?

How is the store planning to get $ out of GPUC when total GPUC buy volume is like 0.1 BTC?
Coin is dying and so is the store because they are stuck with their GPUC worth nothing.

Ok, so you are thinking it will contain information about how to convert fiat to BTC and then what exchanges to use?

I am reading similar text everywhere, but as a noob in cryptos, i don't get it - what is fiat?? (someone is selling cars for BTC? Cheesy )
