feeling like something is broken PPLNS, does it amplify variance?

4242 7 0.00000170538367  / 354 = .48 (=52% negative variance from PPS)
4241 8 0.00000194691120 / 354 =   .55 (=45% negative variance from PPS)
 4240 9 0.00000218239581  / 354 = .615
 4239 11 0.00000266574438  / 354 = .75
 4238 13 0.00000314915633  / 354 = .89
 4237 13 0.00000314915633  /354 = .89
 4236 13 0.00000314445819  / 354 = .887

PPLNS variance over a 24 hour period is equal to the pool's luck.  Higher difficulty = fewer expected blocks per day = larger swings per day (up OR down) since each block is a larger percentage of the mean.  Last difficulty luck was quite good.  So far this difficulty, not good, but still plenty of time for a reversal.

Could we have the ability to set custom graph sizes? Im sick of only seeing 24hr/72hr and two week. I had a miner drop off "I dont know when" becuase of this.. :\
Wouldn't setting an idle alert work better for that?
I did, But at this moment BTCGuild only allows One warning Per dropped worker (and then you go re enable it)
What happened for me was that a worker dropped off, I was alerted, I was on my way to fix it (another worker drops off) and i re-enabled it (While a worker was down)
leaving me with a dead worker for 48+ hours, Im trying to pinpoint the exact time so i can figure out Why it dropped off

The warnings don't disable anymore after they've been sent.  It's been that way since a few days after the new layout went online.  The emails indicated otherwise until recently, but they do not turn themselves off anymore.

Uhh, Eleuthria could you please look into the warning system then?
I was Never alerted that my most important worker went offline (i've been alerted before) even though i seemingly Always recieve an alert when my workers "die"..
I got told (around the time that it shutdown) that "miner_blah hasnt submitted shares for the last 34 minutes" within the email and that was it, There is no other traces that the worker "died" other than the performance graph and lack of income due to it being offline

have you considered removing PPS option? As far as my research goes, I've found out, that btcGuild PPLNS is more profitable than PPS. (in the long run, of course)

Joy, another DDoS on the getwork servers!  Hopefully the last round of attacks got a few people to move over to Stratum which once again appears to not be affected at this time.

Getting the website back online ASAP.  Database server is still functioning.  Mostly getwork + website affected at this time.

The website is back online.  Some payouts did not get properly pushed to bitcoind during the attack, so they have been sent again.

DNS has been updated across the board again, so hopefully miners on getwork will be back to work shortly.  Merged Mining is currently disabled, but should be back shortly.  The server is currently pointed at a generic getwork server that contains an X-Stratum header.  I am sorry to those miners that would have preferred to fallback to another pool when NMC is not included, but since not all users have backup servers set, I decided to point that server to a functioning getwork server rather than leave it offline.

One of the servers in Germany (originally de.btcguild.com) was locked/nullrouted by the dedicated hosting provider, and will not be available for a while.  This server IP was 176.9.42.247, and used to be the EU/DE stratum server, but has not been advertised/linked to as such for over a month.  If you manually entered this IP for stratum, please update to the new eu-stratum.btcguild.com:3333 address.

Use www.btcguild.com.  Forgetting the www is always a bad idea, since otherwise the server needs special forwarding setup to redirect you to the website.  That is the last thing on my mind during a DDoS attack.

Sorry for the confusion.  Since 'btcguild.com:8332' has been a pool server so long, it's always needed special redirect rules in order to get people back to the website if they forget www.  Since DDoSes generally involve me putting emergency servers online and shuffling DNS around, it's one of the last things that normally gets put back.  Mostly because it's something that I almost always forget to put back into place once things have settled down.

Are you still unable to connect?  What server are you trying to connect to?

EDIT/UPDATE:  Looks like the merged mining server lost its setting for open file limits.  Didn't catch it before going to bed because so few people were connected due to DNS switching at first.  Should be good now.
