Are we still using #emc2 for the "official" IRC channel, or is there another that should be used?

In an effort to maximize our limited resources and to provide the most bang for our efforts, Bitcointalk is EMC2's official news and info medium.

Although we appreciate what Reddit, Twitter, IRC, Facebook, and all other ancillary outreach mediums can do, we're equally cognizant of our energy limits.

The solution is volunteers, the more volunteers we have the further we can extend the EMC2 message, the faster we can accomplish EMC2 goals, and the stronger EMC2 will be.

We need volunteers, please volunteer to 'man' the IRC channel, or volunteer 4 hours a week.  We need help, please tell us how you want to volunteer your time.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.
Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.

And again, if any of you do volunteer your services in some way to promote EMC2 (and we dont just mean adding a 'like' on Facebook), let us know here what you have done, and post your EMC2 wallet address. You may just be randomly rewarded for your efforts from our trust fund  Grin

Report To The EMC2 Community

Celebration
We reached our first goal: 50 sat across the board (Cryptsy, Mintpal, and Poloniex).   This is important for a number of reasons, it indicates a 100% increase from the point of "EMC2's rebirth" (quote from Lovethecoins), more importantly we see it as a testament of confidence the community has in this administration -- thanks.

Investment
Well it seems yesterday's 'EMC2 market rest' facilitated today's massive surge.

Mintpal was the first to break 40 sat, but it was Poloniex that outperformed with trades that broke 100 sat.   It all started with a single move: EMC2 was at 31 one second, then at 101 the next -- pure insanity.  It wasn't a fluke, oops, isolated trade, there were many 3 digit trades.   As if to make sure this was reality, I gathered up some of my recently purchased 35 sat coin and listed it for sale at 104 sat, to my surprise it was gone 'in abouta hour' -- at that very same time EMC2 sold at Cryptsy for 33 sat.

Question: if EMC2 SOLD for: 55 sat at Mintpal,  102 sat at Poloniex, and 42 sat at Cryptsy all in the very same hour, how much was EMC2 truly worth at that time?

The overall average for the day was a whopping 70 sat, with a volume of just over 5 BTC.

But WAIT, all of that was by 5pm EST, since then Cryptsy went bonkers reaching a high of 149.

Valuation
We believe a well informed investor is the best hope for our EMC2 community, we also believe that pump and dump schemes are plaguing the CC industry destroying many good coins and financially damaging many CC investors.   In that light we are taking a proactive stance to provide information we believe will provide a safer investment climate for the community.

Periodically, we will provide a brief assessment of what we individually feel EMC2 is worth at the time of the report.    Our opinion could be based on many things or nothing at all (gut) but we offer it with true sincerity and care.

The question is: "What is EMC2 worth today?":

Oldminer said: "I think EMC2 is currently way under-valued & oversold, so I'll go with a current value figure of 250 satoshis ... @ 35 satoshis (or even 90 satoshis) it is well under-valued & oversold, in my opinion. The current bottom line price for EMC2 should be 250sat, when compared to other alts in the market. Take for example, Casinocoin @ 258sat, Emeraldcoin @ 965(!), Argentum @ 610, & even Luckycoin @ 305sat. Even if we set a base valuation of 250sat for EMC2, its still worth less (in some cases 50%-75% less) than all the junkcoins I referenced above."

Djnocide said:  "I think emc2 should be between 45 and 55 satochi. Why? we brought back stability to the community, things are starting to move forward but it can't be valued much more by the simple fact that nothing really big happened to the coin, yes we brought stability but we don't have a new wallet, algo, we have no articles, no promo, no candidates for the vote.  So until one of those is done, the price shouldn't be much higher than that."

Armis said:   "I'm comfortable with a 35 sat figure because it enabled us to move from our mournful state to a state of rehabilitation with some regard for our immediate past experience.    I too feel EMC2 is undervalued, because of its potential, and especially when compared to other coins, but I also feel it isn't "ready" for 50 sat today because anything higher casts the cautious skepticism away that I believe is necessary at this stage of our redevelopment.   35 sat to 149 sat in the span of 24 hours, in light of all we went thought for the past 6 months should give us pause."

Projects & Bounties
It's said 'money isn't everything' and also said 'money makes the world go around' -- well we have some EMC2 money to spread around the world.  Please tell us where you want to see YOUR tax money go.

If you have a contest idea that's fair let us know, if you know of a science channel on youtube that wants EMC2 sponsorship let us know, if you know of a science teacher, professor, or professional that wants to partner with us to do something special in the field of science let us know.

Volunteers Needed
We need writers, social media experts, researchers, outreach pros, and video producers.   If you decide to do unsolicited projects of any kind please post what you have done together with your EMC2 wallet address, we will be randomly selecting individuals for small remunerations.

It appears we only have ONE mining pool operating for EMC2 so at least 1 more would be nice, if only to split the hash power.

I also notice reading through the thread here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=494708.1660 that some concern has been expressed with payouts from the only existing pool we have @ https://emc2.suprnova.cc

New pools are most welcome.

Edit:

I have since found this pool https://emc.maxminers.net - however no-one is currently mining on it & the last block found was 200+ hours ago, so Im not sure how functional it is currently.

This P2P pool is also functioning well http://p2pools.org/emc2

If you can not change the POS as soon as possible, so now the price is likely to be downward.

For those interested in spreading the hash, i'm testing : http://www.coinium.org/pool/EMC2 right now. Anyone interested is welcome to give me a hand in testing their coin. An other pool might join the einsteinium community tomorrow, so we'll have more option.

All 3 reports to the community by the new board on this forum have been posted on https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/15298-1st-report-to-the-emc2-community-under-new-leadership/

This is an example of a task that could have been easily performed by a volunteer, with the possibility of a small monetary reward in return. Perhaps those of you that have an interest in EMC2 could consider this example to help you formulate other ways in which EMC2 can be advertised to the public. The more the community becomes involved, the more other members of the community will become interested. The more this will benefit the progress of EMC2 development.

Afeizhai, thanks for your message and concern.

EMC2 is operating with new management, we are reviewing everything and budgeting accordingly.  Any major upgrades that have not been implemented are either paused (ie: POS conversion), or under review for functionality (ie: new wallet).

There are three ways POS will be implemented:
1) it is included into the budget,
2) a benefactor (such as yourself) provides the funding to pay for the project,
or
3) a developer performs the job free.

Our new budget has not yet begun to form,  when that takes place we will take a responsible look at when we can implement the POS conversion.

Given our week long tenure, our current priorities, and the absence of a budget, the POS conversion will not occur anytime soon.

If a developer is willing to do the job free, they could start immediately.
If a benefactor is willing to fund the project we will create a job listing to find a contractor for the job, once we have a suitable candidate s/he will start immediately after contract.

EMC2 will need at least 10 BTC for start. Believe me, it is very hard (nearly impossible) to find coders which will support it for free (or for EMC2 coins).

The thing is, you probably don't even want a coder that won't work for the currency it codes for. For the same reasonnCEOs are paid in shares and not salary.

Your pricing is way off base, I have a short list of developers who will create a whole new coin for a fraction of what you have quoted.

With 500+ coins on the market today, developers are beginning to auction off their services, especially when it involves a coin they have no respect for.   There are a number of different classes of coins forming as Oldminer alluded to in the EMC2 market value analysis above with his comparative statement.   All coins are not the same, and developers are pricing their services accordingly.

When a coin gets to the point of being universally regarded support comes in many different ways and directions.   EMC2 is a good coin, with a tortured past that brought us to this point.  The new admin is 5 days old, we are committed to buffing out the tarnish to restore the luster we know is there.

EMC2 experienced its first jaring "pricing adjustment" since the mgmt change.   I don't know why it occurred, but I do know that it started at Cryptsy and reverberated to other exchanges.  We are taking steps to mitigate the harsh effects of larger volume sell-offs.

The Guardians [name subject to change] is a group of EMC2 holders who are committed to the structural integrity and financial viability of EMC2.

It is a private list of individual investors who can be called on to buy EMC2 at a moment's notice when large volumes of EMC2 are offered up privately for sale.   This system will serve to blunt the effects of malicious dumps that often result in panic sell-offs.

It will start rather open, but will eventually be prioritized based on dependable and ability:  track record of program performance, tenure of unused funds, amount of unused funds, community engagement (volunteer),  and response time, financial ability.

For example, someone has a personal emergency, needs cash but doesn't want to hurt EMC2 with the cash-out, they contact us, we view the avg rate on all three exchanges, provide a pro forma quote so that the seller knows exactly what to expect, if he agrees he sends coin to us in the increments requested.  In that same time we send a message via tweet to the Guardians informing them of the quantity of coin available at price certain.  The first affirmative responder will have the opportunity to buy the amount they indicated up to 2/3rd of the lot; the 2nd person will be able to buy the amount they indicated up to 50% of the balance, and the 3rd person will be able to do the same, any leftover will be offered to the next responder.

The whole transaction may take from 1 to 8 hours, depending on amount of funds involve and availability of escrow admins to facilitate the deal (we need 2 of 3 admins to sign for out going payments), from the time the seller agrees with the quoted rate.

This tool is likely to be rarely used, however it will serve as a financial security feature that checks unjustified negative downturns inspired by malicious intent.   In other words, if you see a big drop in price someone likely dumped EMC2 on the market to provoke a selling frenzy (panic sell) -- your response should simply be to just buy up the cheap coins and continue with the day.

This will start as a free service [tip address provided], whenever it changes to a fee service the fee will be lower than if it was transacted at Mintpal, Cryptsy, or Poloniex.

Please contact one of the admins if you want to be considered for one of the 9 remaining seats.

To create new coin and support other with adding number of features are different things. I really want EMC2 to succeed, because you said it - there are 500+ coins on the market. I should tell you something you maybe don't know. At least 20% of those coins are created by 2-5 developers and 95% of them are dead. That is why I told you it will be very hard to revive Einsteinium. People are sheeps in general and they want to be millionaires in 2 days, but once they realize that the truth is different - they just give up. Why EMC2 project was left by original developer? Why so many other good coins are struggling? Because I said it... people are sheeps.

Which is why we want to avoid future pump & dumps with EMC2.

EMC2 is being re-released as a long term investment with some big plans. Armis will be releasing regular reports with board member opinions on the coins current worth with a view to protecting potential investors. We are not intentionally shooting for a high price next week (not to say it wont happen), but rather a consistent, reliable, investment-worthy coin, that will produce returns long term together with the possibility of short-term gains for savvy traders.

We have a lot of plans in store for EMC2. At the moment we are still in the 'take-over' stage from the original dev's. Taking over domains and even simple things such as acquiring email addresses is not as straight-forward as some may think. There are a lot of politics involved. Some of these guys worked hard to get EMC2 to where it is now ie a recognised, unique coin & its handover may not come easy. But we have been publicly given the go ahead & we are determined to work through the process. Remember, Armis, myself, & Djnocide are but 3 people. We werent handed this coin on a platter, but we all know its successful aquisition will potentially provide big dividends, not only for us, but for all investors, and the community as a whole. This coin is unique and it has great potential. The groundwork has been done. None of us are programmers & we accept we may have to pay for any changes made to the coin, and are willing to do so, if required. No matter, we are all confident we have the team that can take a coin such as EMC2 to the point that its subsequent value alone will pay for the changes that need to be made.

You can protect investors if they (or you) have more money than others. It's that simple. Developers who launched 10s of coins have thousands of BTC in their wallets. When they launch new coin, they also create hype. Many features are promised and sometimes delivered, then the coin is pumped by themselves and then dumped. Guess what happens next? Launching a new coin of course. I believe that things will look different if people stop investing on every new coin and put together their efforts in 1-5 coins for example, but that is just a dream and I said it why... people are sheeps.
