It looks like the days of ODI and test matches have begun. There is no T20 matches for long. Countries like Ghana, Nigeria are playing one off tournament.

Indian women's recent tour of England, as well as the women's Asia Cup attracted record audiences, while in countries such as Pakistan there is very little interest in women's cricket. And in SENA nations, franchise leagues such as W100 and WBBL generate revenues that are close to what the men's leagues generate. Women's cricket has evolved over the years and it's growth will continue to outpace that of the men's variety in the next few years. But I don't think that women will overtake men, in terms of revenue and popularity.

The base price seems to be a bit steep for me. I am not forgetting the fact that two franchises in the IPL recently got sold for ₹7,090 crores and ₹5,625 crores respectively. But here we are talking about women's cricket and at least during the initial phases the franchises may be in red. A better idea would have been to allow the existing IPL franchises to come up with their own women's team, without any license fee. Nowadays, the BCCI is hell bent upon making money from their franchise leagues and WIPL is no different for them in this regard.

Perhaps you are right. Back in 2008, Rajasthan Royals was sold to Emerging Media, for a sum of $67 million. And recently, the two new IPL franchises got auctioned for almost $1 billion each. That represents an increase of close to 15 times in around 15 years. The same may happen with women's cricket as well. But then, I am not expecting crazy appreciation similar to what we witnessed back in 2008-22 period. The base price is already high, and the market is more or less saturated. So it will take some more time for the franchises to break even.

Inflation had a big impact on the increase of money of IPL. And people have to understand that the value of money in 2007-2008 is not the same as in 2022. But at the same time, I am not saying that the price has not increased. The price has certainly increased because as there are going to be more viewers, the awning will also be big and the revenue will also get bigger, and so does the net worth.

The first T20 match between New Zealand women's team and Bangladesh women's team was played today in Christchurch. The series will consist of three T20 and three ODI matches. In the first match, New Zealand set a target of 165 for the loss of just 3 wickets. That's a good enough collection to win against a team like Bangladesh. And I was sure that New Zealand would win easily. But I don't expect the Bangladesh team to bat so badly. Bangladesh Women's team batted 14.5 overs. But their total collection is only 32 runs. The Bangladesh team was defeated by a margin of 132 runs. Bangladesh lost the first 5 batsmen by just 12 runs.

Hence, this might be one of the things that will be able to persuade BCCI to stop hosting women's IPL matches. However, that is only a worst-case scenario.

There is also the possibility of another situation occurring. In other words, they will be able to generate a substantial amount of revenue from the women's IPL and continue to operate the WIPL for a longer period of time.

My opinion is slightly different. IMO, there is enough fan support for the women's game in India, to make the WIPL profitable from the first year itself. We'll get to know the full picture once the auction for franchises is completed. There is a good chance that the final price may be much higher than what the BCCI has as the reserve. Already a lot of sponsors and advertisers are lining up for the first edition of the WIPL. And don't expect multi-million salaries that the players enjoy in the IPL. For the WIPL, salaries will be much lower.

Financial problems are a common occurrence when there is an economic recession all over the world. But Indian Cricket Board is a financially prosperous cricket board. I don't think that they will fail to launch women's IPL due to lack of funds. They will try their best to manage WIPL anyway. Many people may have confusion about a subject. That is, the change of president who was in place at the time of approval of WIPL may cast a negative attitude on its management. But I don't think it will have any effect. Because for a long time planning is being done to run this WIPL league.

4th T20 Thailand Women vs Netherlands Women The match between these two teams has started. In the match Netherlands Women won the toss and decided to bowl. Now Thailand Women came to bat. They scored 55 runs in 7 overs. Thailand Women have lost 2 wickets so far and  8 more wickets are in their hands. If Thailand Women can play complete overs then they can score like 150 runs.

Thailand women have lost some quick wickets, and they are at 98/6 after 15.3 overs. So far this has been a very disastrous tour for the Dutch women. They lost the ODI series 0-4, and so far they are trailing the T20 series by 1-2. Only one win for Netherlands in 7 matches so far, with the 8th match being played right now. Remember that Netherlands is a country with almost 200 years of cricketing history. On the other hand, Thailand is a relatively new team, which started playing international cricket very recently.
