Our local teams can’t really afford to pay that much especially if you’re not the ace player so its not good to compare salaries since they all have different skills in basketball, lucky to those who can play abroad that means to me, other country sees their true potential. PBA is way better I believe, many still want to stay though.

And even comparing salaries, if that player is not that well-performing, no matter how they dislike their salary in PBA, they won't even get an offer to play abroad. Only a few are getting the opportunity and it's not a usual job where a player will just have to apply and hope to be accepted.

These players who are not well-performing in the PBA are still lucky since they will always have a contract no matter what unless on their retiring age. Still lucky compare to other players that didn't have a chance to be drafted in PBA.

Yes you are right there mate comparing the salaries between here in the Philippines and another country is too far, another country offer such a big amount if converted it to Philippine money. And yes the players who have an opportunity to play abroad is selected and few of our PBA players is lucky enough to be selected and they deserve that kind of opportunity cause those players have done a good thing here in PBA and not just good they are Star player also.

They are also in a big market and another big opportunity may come. Our players are most valuable in Asia, however, if they play an impressive basketball, it's also possible that they may be able to play in Europe league, maybe it's too far from reality but I think it's possible.

I think playing in Euro League is too much of an expectation, players there are too tall and strong, no PBA players will have a chance when they have a lot of good players playing to fill any vacancy on a certain team. Kail Sotto played in Australia (not Europe) but if he is not 7 footer there's no chance he will play there, and I also don't hear a hype of his name.

Even on the employment rate there's a huge difference.

As for this article, the salary or the minimum per hour is equivalent to 8.4 USD or 420 PHP using 1 USD =50 PHP conversion rate.
https://asia.nikkei.com/Politics/Japan-panel-seeks-record-28-yen-rise-in-minimum-wage-to-930-yen

In the Philippines the minimum wage was not even Php 1k per day in 8 hours or work.  Grin

Yes, that's true, and I think that is one of the reasons why some Filipinos choose to work/play in other countries. Like some PBA players who want to play in other country. some of them aiming a high-profit salary and some of them, They play cause they want to prove that PBA  Filipino players can fight and win even though they are small players.

Even if you can't bring your talent to the other leagues overseas, playing in the PBA is every Filipino cagers dream because even if you are not the star player, you could still earn enough money that could change your life even if you can only play for a few years.

Did you know guys that it is not only the players that are getting offers from the Japan B-league? Rumors have it that coach Chito Victolero had an offer to gauge his coaching talent to the said league.

Damn, this Japan B-league is serious enough to expand their league and do whatever necessary to improve, it is understandable because they have the money to do it.

No, I have no idea about that. I guess if players are getting a lot of money, for sure the coaches are getting bigger, however, I don't think coach Victolero would bite the offer as he is already in a good team and good management where he can secure his retirement as long as his team will continue to be competitive.

The reason is all about better opportunity and higher salary. That's all that matters to them especially the younger players, they have a better future for choosing to play in other leagues like B League.
They're securing themselves there and likely to stay there for long and eventually get into another offer that they might be discovered by other scouters.

No, I have no idea about that. I guess if players are getting a lot of money, for sure the coaches are getting bigger, however, I don't think coach Victolero would bite the offer as he is already in a good team and good management where he can secure his retirement as long as his team will continue to be competitive.

That's new to my ears, not sure but Japan B-League is really trying to bring our talents to their country not just the players but also coaches, it's not impossible since they have all the resources and by looking with how Coach Victolero is doing right now interest is very possible to happen, he can share his views with players and he can add his talent to help any team from B-League.

But same with how you look at it, he's now with SMB corp. Long-term relationship wise, he can retire with a much more secure future.

Also, there's no assurance that he will stay longer as he is playing like an import coach where the contract could be short-term if the team does are not satisfied with his coaching performance. The bigger league has bigger competition, so it's a risk for him if he will take the offer.

Did you know guys that it is not only the players that are getting offers from the Japan B-league? Rumors have it that coach Chito Victolero had an offer to gauge his coaching talent to the said league.

Yes, I've read that recently. My own view of that is, since he's a Coach, the expectation of that Japan B-league team that seems interested to him might be big and crucial. It's a lot of money in return for him but it's not sure if it's for long-term. The standing of that team every season plays also a big role in his coaching career there. However, if he becomes successful there, he should brace himself for the spectacular reward in return. There are only a few Filipino coaches who are getting an offer like that.

I understand that he is now in deep thinking now since making business in SMC Corporation is already life insurance. SMC Corp. is also the main reason why he started to become an official head coach of a PBA team. They are the ones who give Victolero that big opportunity and never replaced him as a head coach since 2016.

This is one of the reasons why I don't want to work in the Capital City of PH which is Metro Manila.
The cost of living there is very high compare to the salary you are getting. If you only have one source of income in the family and you are only earning minimum wage which is more or less 10$ per day then it will not be enough. This depends of course in some factors like how thrifty the family is or how good they are in terms of budgeting their money or how can they add another income source to sustain their everyday lives.

As for me, I'd choose to stay in our province rather than living in the city. The cost of living is lower compare to a city though the salary is lower. There are many ways to earn online right now so income source isn't a problem at least for me. I just hope that there would be a bit of a salary increase after the 2022 Elections.

Business is the solution to this problem, we will never be contented with what we earn because our lifestyle will also change and that means our budget will increase as well. As for the players, they are making good salary but if they don't know how to manage their funds, they'll end up bankrupt. I admire those who retired from PBA and after retirement they focus on their business, they are the right model to be followed.

If the PBA wants to grow, they can increase the number of teams so more players with potential will have a chance to play. Some players in the B-League did not play in the PBA before they get to that league, some names are Thirdy Ravena, Kobe Paras and Dwight Ramos. So B-Leauge does not only focus their selection from the PBA, but in the entire basketball league in the Philippines.

That's easy to say but the way I see it, it's not gonna happen as it's been controlled by the big team owners. I guess restricting the team owners to own only one team is the right thing to do, if not, then they can still manipulate the league, the strong teams gets stronger while the weak gets weaker.

In the Philippines, the minimum wage was not even Php 1k per day in 8 hours of work.

Indeed, but these cases are rare because most of the players in the Philippines wants to join the PBA as it's the highest basketball league locally. And for others, well, we can't really blame them for pursuing their basketball dreams overseas as they can get paid more while showcasing their talents outside.

You can also had here the connection of the players since we know that some deserving players are still leaving the great teams so that the other player will stay even if they are not that good. Many good players also don’t have the access to PBA since some teams are too focus on NCAA and UAAP players, they are not looking on other places. Well, big teams can really look for a good players especially they have the money for that, we cannot blame them for this.

Speaking of Dwight Ramos, seems he has built a name on his own in Japan and the way i looked at it, he is now a superstar plus the fact that his looks is not far from a Japanese actor, seems to me that we have to wait for a long time before we can see him play in the PBA. This no-nonsense kid is earning a lot so i think an offer of contract extension is likely to happen.

I just don't know why the PBA is having a hard time expanding. There are many companies years ago who have offered to enter the PBA but that didn't materialized maybe because of conflict of business interest.

When Phoenix tried to enter PBA for the first time, it was blocked by Petron. Chooks-to-go has sent an intent to join PBA but one team suddenly changed its name to Magnolia Hotshot "Ang Pambansang Manok" lol.

I remember these scenario, looks like big companies are trying to manipulate the whole PBA system, and as you can see some teams are sister company in reality, they really want to monopolize the system and yet, PBA also wants this since there's money on that. Speaking of those young players, they really have a potential and its good that on their early stage in professional basketball, they are able to play abroad for sure they'll become more expensive once they choose to play on PBA.
