Yes, it will not be a Sunday morning as we usually watch during fights from the US. This is going to be held in Japan to there is a big time difference. Nevertheless, we can still watch it live, for those who are going to bet on this fight, for sure they are going to wait for it.

There are a lot of boxing this weekend, like the up and coming Berlanga against Quigley.

I'm interested to see this fight as both wanted to break into the limelight specially Berlanga who says that his dream fight is GGG or Canelo.
And Kazuto Ioka won by points.
Unanimous decision: 115-113, 116-112, and 116-112. That's nice. The scorecards are almost the same and I believe all judges have good eyes.
Six titles in four weight divisions. Wow. That's a record for Japan.
Ioka actually started slowly while Franco have an aggressive start. But when he is all warmed up, the pace suddenly changed and he bombarded Franco with lots of accurate punches.
I really thought Franco will have the upper hand after that weight issue that he could not cut. He is heavier and his punches will be heavy too, but I think Ioka did a great job at knowing it will also slow Franco down. The cut in his eye may have also changed Franco's accuracy. Good fight.

I missed the Berlanga against Quigley. Is it still happening now?
I am watching Adames versus Williams now at round 8 but I forgot to place a bet. Cheesy

Edit: Ref stopped it. Why?! Williams is still punching. Adames won!
Yeah, there was a time he was trying to survive but the time it was stopped, he was punching. Wrong timing for a stoppage from the ref. There was a window for it but he already missed it.

Berlanga winning by decision, however, he was able to knock down Quigley, so it was a dominating win for the young boxer, Scores of 116-108, 116-108 and 118-106. And since Canelo has left Matchroom, who knows, maybe Bivol wil be next for Berlanga?

I do agree, on the Adames vs Williams stoppage, too early by the referee, so another controversial decision by the 3rd man in the ring.

Although it just moot probably, as Adames is ahead on the 3 judges scorecard.

Not sure if we have discussed Jerwin Ancajas comeback fight this weekend as he will move up to 118 lbs and will fight a tune up fight against Wilner Soto in his new division.

Ancajas has been a great champion at 115 lbs defending his belt 9 times until he met  Fernando “Pumita” Martinez in which he lost 2x. So it's obvious that his body can't take 115 lbs and so they decided to go up now at bantamweight division.

https://www.ringtv.com/654814-title-shot-awaits-jerwin-ancajas-if-he-gets-past-wilner-soto/

Soto is 13:1 underdog here.

I am more interested in the main event where Fernando Martinez will once again defend his belt against another Ph contender Jade Bornea. The champion though remains the favorite.

Hopefully, Ancajas can show some signs that he is still an elite fighter. The division is starting once again after Inoue's ascension to 122. Ancajas was a long-time champion but I felt like he could've done more by unifying his belt or facing the other top fighters of the division. He was a champion and the division was rich with stars like Roman Gonzales and Juan Estrada.

We all hope that Ancajas will perform well in his new weight division but I am somehow hesitant to believe that he will do better in this new division.  With his last two match they keep on blaming the weight but I do not think it is the reason why Ancajas losses.  He is simply outmatched by Martinez.  Honestly I also thought that the weight is the reason why Ancajas lost to Martinez but the rematch proves that it is not the case.

He won already, he knockout Soto, he drop him twice and then referee stop the contest in the 5th round. It's obvious that this is a tune up fight for Jerwin to somewhat bring back his confidence again after a back to back loses to Fernando Martinez.

So all is not lost to the Filipino former champion, I think he is still in his prime at 31 years old. And probably fighting at 115 lbs and defending it nine times might have a affect on his body as it can no longer commit to that weight. So good move by him to go up in weight class and then fight a journey man to somewhat have his belief that he can still pull the trigger and fight and knockout anyone.

At least it's 1-1 in that fight, Ancajas won but Bornea lost against Martinez. So definitely Ancajas could be be back in the limelight in this win. His opponent is not that great though, but it's enough for Jewin to be in the win column and maybe MP could set him up for another rank fighter so that he will slowly go up in the rankings again. And if he is lucky enough, he could be given another chance to fight for the belt. I think he can also go as high as 122 lbs if his frame is too big for the bantamweight of 118 lbs although this division is crowded with Filipinos trying to become a world champion.

Nice start after deciding to move up, though like you mentioned seems that a cherry pick fight for Jerwin to bring the confidence back and try checking his capabilities in this new division, I think if by chance he might hype his name and engaged with the fans and promoters, who knows he can climb quickly and make another fight to bring him to a challenger level.

We know that if there's a chance of making a decent amount of money, promoters can do things accordingly.

^^ And if I'm not mistaken, Jerwin is under MP so definitely Sean Gibbons will have to work double card to bring Jerwin's name in the mix again in this new weight class. And most likely, he has gotten over his lost against Martinez and moving forward to his career. No need to dub himself with that 2 losses, what's important is that he was able to win and make a statement comeback win.

So far I have checked his rankings, #8 on WBA and #9 on IBF.

Doesn't matter if he will have to face another Filipino champion or to become a champion. They are campaigning in the same division so obviously at some point they will have to fight, like Donaire vs Gaballo.

Unfortunately, Bornea was not lucky against Martinez as he has lost the fight as the referee step up and halt it because of too much blood from from his lacerated right earlobe.

And Martinez just started to plummet the Filipino here, and at the time of the stoppage, Martinez is ahead on the judges scorecard.

With that win, he successfully defended his belt against his mandatory. Nothing to be ashamed on Bornea though, he has given everything in this fight and showed big heart but Martinez is really highly skilled and just too much aggression.

It was unfortunate for the fight to stop Jade Bornea was doing well at the start of the round he was really fighting skillfully and Bornea even got a smarter approach to Fernando Martinez you can say that he is winning with the scores until the earlobe of Jade Bornea exploded in round 9, and seeing this Fernando Martinez got super aggressive with it and now targeting the ear of Jade Bornea that causes slight discomfort and pain, and on Round 11 the referee had stopped the fight because it could likely cause Jade Bornea further injury on his ear,

But it was a solid win for Jerwin Ancajas a round 5 KO/TKO body shot win for him against Wilner Soto it was a missed opportunity for the IBF World Super Flyweight Title belt but still, it is always important to the lives and health of the fighter,

I wonder if Bornea has a conditioning coach. He's got the skills but lacks the stamina and grit for a whole 12-round championship fight. Sanman needs a conditioning coach for its fighters and hires reliable ones when it comes to world title shots or when its fighters are battling against world-ranked opponents.

For me, it's more like 1-10. Cheesy Because Ancajas was only fighting for a tune-up compared to the real-world title fight. Hopefully, Ancajas won't become inactive and fights again in 3 to 5 months so he can get a title fight as early as next year. I do want to see him train with another coach. Jimenez has nothing new for him except when they are trying to become a brawler which didn't worked well.

Am I already seeing ads for a KSI vs Jake Paul fight in October? Has the promotion for the Nate Diaz fight gone so poorly that they’re already moving on to trying to build up the next fight? Feels like the influencer boxing scene is dying rather quickly. Maybe Elon Musk vs Mark Zuckerberg will end up being the last ridiculous fight that marks the shark has been jumped.

I think so too. The Jake Paul vs Nate Diaz fight might be a no go that's why we are now seeing some rumors surfacing about that KSI vs Jake Paul fight as even after promoting the Paul-Diaz fight, there are no signs that people are interested in it. Eddie Hearn even said that it's a no brainer fight as it's clearly a mismatch because it is not the comfort ground of Nate plus Hearn added that the 10-round fight will go as far as four rounds before Nate will be KOd.

This is the known problem of most of Filipino boxer, they always got a problem with stamina.  I do not know if they are squeezing their weight in order to have an advantage over their opponent (naturally at the higher weight category but cutting weight to have advantage in power).  Since most Filipino comes strong in the earlier round but got exhausted in the middle to later rounds.

This is a good start for Ancajas  and hopefully he will have the same kind performance if he is matched with talented boxers.

in my opinion these exhibition fights make no sense, professional fighters train a lot to reach very high levels, and in today's world where publicity is something of great importance, rookie fighters and even many professional fighters have been trying hard to achieve getting media attention, getting a lot of followers on social media to get a lot of sponsors, and with that in each of their fights having a lot of people watching and consequently having more money.

so they look like influencers, youtube guys, mma guys, billionaires book boxing fights and get all the attention for them in a fight where they won't fight very seriously, inside the fight they won't be fighting to win because they need money, on the contrary they will be fighting to show off, this demoralizes professional fighters who are starting their careers and those old professional fighters who never managed to get people's attention, years and years of effort and zero attention and having to see people who don't even know anything about boxing professional getting a lot of attention, no doubt it hurts

There were news that Deontay Wilder has set the contract to the camp of Andy Ruiz Jr.

And Andy seems to have responded already based on that and said that yes, there is negotiations going on and he is coming after the Bronze Bomber. So let's see, hopefully the earlier the better for this to happen.

Because there is also news floating around that AJ vs Wilder in December. And Francis Ngannou said that he also have a fight with Wilder after December.

I do agree, on the Adames vs Williams stoppage, too early by the referee, so another controversial decision by the 3rd man in the ring.

Although it just moot probably, as Adames is ahead on the 3 judges scorecard.
Yeah, but it takes out the chance for Williams to still fight at the end, and who knows he might even get a chance like he did in round 4. Undoubtedly, Adames will win by score if the match ended in a decision. Williams' cornerman didn't like what happened and even made a fuss after the refs call. I think that is the worst TKO that I have seen that was called while the boxer is punching.

Haha. Maybe.
With all the drama, sometimes it gets boring. Eddie Hearn, after watching the clip of Nate Diaz doing his rounds says it will be a mismatch. Jake Paul will no doubt knock him out in an easy way. Well, that's another addition to why it will become boring and maybe that is why they are already hyping another match because this one won't be as profitable as the next.
KSI is such an energetic boxer and I love watching him. I am sure Jake Paul would want to make it happen for the mountain of money that will come in.

I've read that Joshua Franco has retired after his lost to Ioka in Japan.

We know that he lost his belt on the scale because he didn't make the weight in their fight, 115 lbs and was over the limit and even weight as high as super bantamweight. He cited though, that he has go to thru a lot emotionally and so another case of mental issues. And so before it blows up, he just decided to retire for good.

Quote
“For the majority of my career I have been going through a lot of mental problems that I was doing my best to control. I never liked talking about it publicly because I didn’t want anyone to think I ever made an excuse for anything or for anyone to look at me different. I battled through it as much as I could to still perform and give you guys some great fights. For anyone that battles through any type of mental health issues please know you are not alone. And you can’t let anything stop you from achieving your dreams.

^Joshua is still very young at 27 years old, but we respect his decision to retire after his big lost to Ioka. Mental health issues is a big deal now for sports personalities and maybe this is the reason perhaps in the early years of sports we have seen boxers suddenly lost the fire in their belly and unfortunately lost a fight and never was the same again after a big lost.

And in this generation of fighters, they are not afraid that they are dealing problems inside like Ryan Garcia, or Jermall Charlo who has been out in the boxing world for 2 years or even Teo Lopez who also retired and going thru a divorced.

Yup, he is under MP Promotions and unlike Casimero, Ancajas is one of the favorite fighters of Sean Gibbons next to Mark Magsayo lol. That might be a tune-up fight for the Pretty Boy of the Philippines but still, it's a good one as he won by knockout which was a very good bounced back from a loss n his previous fight.

Personally, I have low expectations that Ancajas would be champion again as his weakness was visibly exposed on his two defeats against Martinez but a change in trainer might be the game changer as what @inthelongrun said.

Well, that's an unexpected news because I thought that after the loss, he will be more dedicated to try and bounce back in the next division as his weight is not already suitable in his present division.

He still has a future in the industry if he chose to continue as he is still young to consider an early retirement because he could definitely bring a lot more money in his pockets for fighting a couple more in the future and who knows, he might be cut for something at 118.

Anyway, it's best to understand his decision because we are not on his shoes.

And obviously, they don't like Casimero or Sean Gibbons doesn't show love to Casimero because his favorite is Jerwin Ancajas.  Grin

Nevertheless as you have said, he really needs to work hard right now specially in the new division, he was exposed by he can work out so that he can covered that loophole in his skills.

So we will just have to wait who will be his next opponents and hopefully we can still see him fight in the next couple of months because it seems this is just like a normal sparring for him.

I heard conflicting news. Eddie Hearn confirmed in one of his interviews that Deontay Wilder will fight Anthony Joshua on December.

Also, it would be a mistake if Francis Ngannou fought Wilder, I reckon. Ngannou's team should negotiate for a fight vs. Tyson Fury.  It will be the biggest money he can get while the hype is still alive. If Ngannou fights Wilder for a smaller amount and loses, this will kill the hype and all interest for Fury vs. Ngannou will die.

In any case, there is also some rumors that Ryan Garcia will fight Rolly Romero in September if the contracts are signed this month.
