..aaand there goes another one

Police Confiscate 11,000 Bitcoin Wallets; Shut Down Dark Web Site

Every shut DNM takes us closer to the crazy ride when Shadow Market is released.. Sit tight and fasten your seatbelt, hehe.

I don't get it. How did they confiscate wallets?

they got access to the marketplace .dat file and transferred all the coins to a private account

Oh so they got a wallet with 11,000 coins. This article made it sound like they got the personal wallets of 11,000 users of this site.

its possible that the website had 11k accounts, or more likely that the wallet had 11k separate addresses with balances probably including change addresses. you know how the feds and the media love to over exaggerate

We need a test case where the federal agents are charged with criminal impersonation for transferring coins out of an account. While the feds can go to a bank and put a claim on your account with a court order, one thing they can't do is pretend they're you, and forge your signature on a check to get your money out. Signing a transaction with someone else's key is the same thing.

Try ShadowCash, the first coin with instant and decentralized private transactions!

Why implement PGP (even if I like it), when we already have functional (!) private ShadowChat in wallet?

True. What if the vendor is offline. Does shadowchat still work? Also is shadowchat 100% un readable by LE ?

ShadowChat AFAIK works similarly as PGP. I'm not a programmer or cryptographer, but all is described in ShadowChat Whitepaper (PDF). Therefore LE could read your messages if they would have access to your keys (or keys of the other party).

ShadowChat

How does it differ from Bitmessage? (Not that if it doesn't, that would be a bad thing at all as Bitmessage is considered very secure.)

My understanding is that the messages are passed to everyone, but only the person with the key will be able to open it.  So the vendor will not need to be online all the time to receive the message.

Yes the message is distributed across the network so there is no indication of who has sent a message to whom. It expires after two days if not read.

This is going to become unmanageable after we have enough users. It could also allow a malicious actor to jam up the network by sending bulk garbage messages to an offline wallet, that all the online wallets will have to bruit around for 2 days.

Maybe a better system would be instead of the message going to all addresses, it only goes to wallets that share a particular substring. Let's say your intended recipient is Shadowcash address Sabcdefghi......
Your message would go out to any address containing the string "abc". Being it would go out to the same people every time you still couldn't tell who sent a message to whom even after repeated messages.

* child_harold enters the bar. In the corner dadon and Automatic Moneky are having a chat over a beer and a cloud of smoke. Propping up the bar is rustynailer clenching a tumbler of whiskey neat. There are many empty tables and Harold sits at one. He bangs his fist on the woodwork and utters:

Holding this and Peercoin. Got to respect that well-established coin that could be a safe haven if BTC ever goes to hell in a handbasket.

Nice thing is due to its hybrid PoW/PoS it's now 51%-proof.

When there is an explosion of slack action there is an equal desertion of bitcointalk. Good to see some of the old names popping back in. Long is of course most welcome.
