huge buys on poloniex - hope we will leave the downtrend.

Looks like almost 100K volume or am I reading this wrong?

How does one separate the amount bought from sell side vs sold to bids ?

Bitcoinwisdom shows around 90k for the last 4 hours (candle starts at 16:00 UTC), see -> https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/poloniex/xmrbtc

It's kind of difficult to seperate them, but you can get a good estimate if you look at the 1 minute candles.

Thanks. Yes it is still difficult to segregate them but it does give an idea Wink At this time it just looks like those who had sold/selling for last several months and created the downtrend to begin with (regardless of their stance in the forums), are getting back in, maybe with RingCT etc coming in. Good to see the volume still.

Apologies to smooth, who I respect very much, but I felt compelled to tear myself away from the wall observer to come over here to pollute your thread with my unbounded enthusiasm.

It seems like Shen is going full steam ahead! Some updates regarding Ring Confidential Transactions for Monero:

Quote
edit 1/9/2016: Looks like its fully funded! Thanks to everyone who funded - I've started the work (https://github.com/ShenNoether/MiniNero/commit/9ede58897808bee784dab296654b99899a58c109), and I will be posting updates here for the next two weeks as I work on this, rather than updating both here and the stickied reddit post.

edit 1/13/2016: MG sigs + demo are done (git clone https://github.com/ShenNoether/MiniNero.git, cd brief, make, a.exe (or a.out depending on system)). Most of the helper functions are there, so the rest should go a little bit quicker. Also fixed a tiny bug in Monero's keccak function.

edit 1/14/2016: ASNL + demo are done. (https://github.com/ShenNoether/MiniNero/commit/88b2d93e137bd5a2e2a2700ac11136705bd463c5) I will probably do some additional checks on these and the MG sigs once I get everything finished, however they are working as expected now.

edit 1/15/2016: spent an all nighter getting a rough version of all the code finished - I will most likely clean it up, and then make it available early next week.

https://forum.getmonero.org/8/funding-required/2450/ring-ct-c-crypto

Another update:

Quote
edit 1/21/2016: Just FYI the code is fully working (available at https://github.com/ShenNoether/MiniNero/tree/master/brief) right now I am just doing some additional checks / testing / looking carefully for bugs, I expect to have all of these checks done by end of the week.

Another one here -> https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/42bv46/small_update_on_ring_ct_crypto_implementation/

For the lazy ones:

Quote
Just a small update on the crypto c++ work since it's been two weeks since it was funded:

[1] There is a working version available here I posted earlier this week: https://github.com/ShenNoether/MiniNero/tree/master/brief is basically an exact translation of the python version referenced in the paper

[2] I'm a little bit unhappy with the readability and layout of that code, so for the past few days I've been refactoring and updating comments, as well as running some tests- I will aim to make this available in a fresh repository in the next few days.

XMR.TO updates: increased limit, reliable liquidity, no-javascript version

Quote

~~~ We've rolled out some updates on https://xmr.to ~~~
  • We've increased the limit for large orders, up to 2 BTC (previously 1). We are considering to possibly raise more in the future, depending on demand and volume.
  • We've updated various things in our backend, most important and visible effect for you is that we should now have a good liquidity, reliably.
  • For the privacy-minded out there that are reaching us over TOR or I2P and prefer not to enable javascript: they can now enjoy a new front-end that works even with javascript completely disabled.
Enjoy!
Seems like we are following the same pattern. I hope that it slows down a bit though...
Some TA:
We broke 2 long term downtrends and the heavy resistance in the 145k-154k region (we peaked a few times there in the last few weeks/months, therefore it became resistance).
Next up is 168k, which was approximately our local high yesterday and used to be support when we fluctuated around 200k. After we broke it during the long downtrend, it became resistance.
Well, someone dumped 30k at once this morning, which resulted in retesting previous resistance (145k, which is now support). Fortunately, it held, so it might merely be a little retrace. Keep in mind, we also had a quite sharp retrace before we blased through 145k.
Newbie question when you say 30k or 145k is that the price measured in satoshi
In this example the 30k was the quantity of coins sold so that is 30,000 coins.
145k was the price it hit while selling those coins and yes that is 145,000 satoshis or 0.00145000 btc
The price on exchanges is shown to 8 decimal places so I put in all the zeros.
One satoshi being 0.00000001 btc
I hope the dumpers are shorters taking open position who bring the desperatively needed liquidity once the btc will disappear from bids.
The timing of the 30k dump corresponds to the bitcoin 'pump' to 400. Historically this has happened a lot across the whole alt-board, an invese reaction, effectively being usd-stable.  Lately some pairs seem to have decoupled (eth for example). Judging by the aftermath of this particular situation (not much happened after that dump) as well as the past couple of days, it could be that xmr is also in the process of decoupling from the bitcoin action. It would be very interesting what this means looking forward.
Comparing Monero's market-cap vs other top-10 crypto projects there's definitely a very attractive upside.
i share TC's view. bids are not strong enough so we can absorb dumps like that for long time. if they dont show up as bids again, price wont be able to hold support.
as long as they trade inside a range like normal shorters do, its fine. what we dont want is people cashing out and walking away. shorters always buy back and therefore providing liquidity on the bids sooner or later, helping build up support once they re enter.
what he said is something bullish in the end.
