I have a background in professional statistics.
After watching the forum take a bath going long over the last month I considered sharing some entries/exits to help abate the bleeding. The hostility toward anyone arriving at a "short" result... even if taking measurements with an unbiased starting point... has me reconsidering any sort of information sharing. I just had a quick look at your post history. May I suggest that you create your own topic for those kind of predictions to track your progress. Some traders are already doing that and it can be interesting to see how you perform long term. If you post those predictions here it would be really useful to add some more reasoning as to why you have specific targets. Whether you think it's going down due to technical analysis or if it's for fundamental reasons, simply back your prediction with some reasoning. Go into depth about why you think it's going down, not just that it's going down. If you do that I think you'll receive much less hostility. People starting with a conclusion and then trying to find evidence is readily discerned and gets pretty tiring for most of us (I am not saying you did that), but some will always dislike negative sentiment even if true (denial), that is to be expected when money is involved. However I think most do appreciate contrarian opinions if they are reflected and not just comments such as "going to x" or even as some would say "going to x, bitches". Don't get me wrong, those comments are fine, but belong to a dedicated topic as they bring no value to the discussion.

@TheKoziTwo Thank you. I would like to mention that I did not join for the purposes of social confirmation. So while I could do as suggested and make a separate thread... that would go about as far as making me "feel accepted" which I don't need or have the time for. I really only joined to help the bleeders on this particular thread recover some equity. But... the flippant responses have jaded my resolve. That said, I'm going to go ahead and bow out with respect.

Looks like i am no longer losing money, that's nice I will not pretend to know how much xmr will fall in price but eventually the bagholders will start to give up and sell. The initial sell-off is likely to be initiated by shorters while the bagholders give up when it's already down 5...20 %. What we see now is that the buyers(except shorters taking profits) are willing to pay less and less for xmr as the hype fades.

That's basically nonsense and borderline trolling. "The forum" did not take a bath. Some people made money, some people lost money. I specifically remember a lot people posting near the top about taking profits. Trading continues as always.

I really only joined to help the bleeders on this particular thread recover some equity. But... the flippant responses have jaded my resolve. That said, I'm going to go ahead and bow out with respect. I think your posts would be more appropriate on https://www.reddit.com/r/xmrtrader/I do not think that this thread is about being accepted socially by the community but more of providing personal opinions backed up by the reason why you believe so, be it contrarian or not. People that think that monero is going to go down and that it's dying are welcome as long as they say why they really believe so and not by trying to spread FUD. For example, N-rG tried to spread constant FUD for his short positions which was not welcome. It was to the point where he was constantly spamming and where he was falsifying information in order for him to acquire more monero for his short positions. Albeit all that, in the beginning he did sometimes provide legit information and stance which I did enjoy until he went crazy and full FUD-mode. That being said, I will try to contribute and share my stance. I believe that the reason monero price is going down is inevitable as monero does not have any real practical usage yet with not many merchant accepting it. There is also the biggest matter which is a not-so-friendly level entry level (note that this is from the point of view of the average joe, who are intimidated by the command line, which I can see as I could be considered one). The upcoming official GUI (jaxx and exodus by end of year) should resolve that matter in which I expect the price to spike, go down and then gradually go up at a slow but steady fashion. Also, the official GUI features automatic donation which I find it to be a cool feature because the automatic donation amount is choosable so the more people who use it, the more donations the devs will receive and more resources can be allocated to the growth of monero. It has went up tremendously because of the announcement that it had been adopted by the DNM (oasis and then alphabay). It then went down slowly which I expected but took a steady plunge downwards after oasis disappeared, which was clearly an exit scam. Although there was the exit scam, monero is trying to find its bottom which seems to hit around the 0.009-0.01 range as there are support at that level. More people are being aware of monero as time goes on and as they do their research, I believe they should find out that it is not a pump and dump coin. My position is long with a cold wallet that I will not touch until a year or two and some money on poloniex to trade for my own enjoyment.

Absolutely, yeah... and IMHO the thing about the day-traders coming here to this Spec thread and 'trolling' to talk their book that's so annoying is this constant assumption that anyone who was in any way holding any Monero this summer when the exchange value hit over $10+ is now "losing money" just because the exchange value is now in the $6-$7 range. Those of us who are not trying to pick up pennies in front of the steamroller day-trading and sweating the daily flux, who acquired most of our Monero under a dollar, or even at two or three bucks each, who are invested in the technology for the long haul: we hardly care that our value is only at 2X or 3X instead of close to 4X now, LOL. So it's doubled only twice? From $1 to $2 to $4+...? Or even if someone bought in at $4 and it's only up 50% now to $6? Oh, yeah, that's a failing investment, sure.

Zero-sum game ultimately. Anyone trying to make a point about "people lost money"... that's just how markets work, some win and some lose. Not everyone wins when it comes to a market that can go up and down and have wild swings. To be clear not everyone wins all the time, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose... Monero still chugging on...

Hi guys, Just dropped by to say hell. I see this thread keeps going as lively as ever. I speculate that monero will go down and then up. Or the other way around. One thing is sure. This rise provoked a growing spurt in Monero. Transactions are up, people checking Monero blockchain data are up 500% in just ONE of the blockexplorers available. We're getting there. I don't know if 5 bucks is the fair price for monero today, bu one thing is certain. It is much more valuable than in the beginning of 2016. So, if you bought the top or close, don't worry. Many people did the same in 2014, and those who held did better than those who didn't. And the ones that averaged down did best. But try to improve your timing, okay? Cheers

Also happen to be considering using Bitsquare (for buying Monero, that is, not BTC)... but unsure as unable to find people with similar past experience, so will be interested in feedback as well. I realise I've missed the hype (more like I wasn't in a buying position 2 months ago), but I really like the ideas behind the coin so am looking to hold some long-term.

I've made many trades on bitsquare. Works great. Often I have gotten a much better price on bitsquare than poloniex (by people taking my offers). It's been a bit slow lately, but we have also had declining volume on poloniex so not that surprising. I highly recommend giving it a try, if only to help bootstrap the market. We still need a lot of market makers. I have setup a dedicated computer to have my bids/asks online 24/7, you can do that with a cheap raspberry pi (albeit a bit slow). Support privacy and decentralization. If enough people do it, the market will run itself.
