Although Windows 10 is a great operating system, IMO the best thing Microsoft has produced since MsDos6-

Reading this hurts my soul. Windows 10 is garbage, almost as bad as this Windows 8 POS I am running at work :/
Well, the biggest issue IMO with all of windows since 7 is:

Some of the beta-testers of 10 were up in arms about the fact that the beta version tracked everything you do ... literally.
However, that is also in the full version, it wasn't just for beta testing.

Apparently those changes have been back ported to 7 and 8 via windows update also.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2978239/windows/microsoft-slips-user-tracking-tools-into-windows-7-8-amidst-windows-10-privacy-storm.html

... and of course just google: "windows 10 tracks what you do"

if you have an old  windows 7  disk and do a fresh install with then never update it  you can avoid tracking.

for me windows if for mining.  also some printing.

I need to learn more about linux as I run 1 unit with it very well.

For commercial os I like mac 10.8  but apple has been f'ing it up.

Shame as apple and bitcoin core  work well together .

Indeed, it does track everything you do unless you turn off those flags in the settings...and even then you can't be sure you're secure because of the push updates that are completely redacted as to what's actually happening...and what isn't redacted is named so obscurely that you don't know what it does without spending an inordinate amount of time and energy. MS is out to control the world, folks. It is indeed "better" than 8, but only because it looks and behaves more like 7. The important thing, I think, is that I would no longer keep my mining code/data/wallet on it. Of course, MS also (via Win10) tries to lock you into their "cloud" thing from the start. It's a bitch trying to avoid it.

I was one of those beta folks, btw. MS' reactions to my critiques were what finally moved me to switch to Ubuntu. Never looked back.

Nope...wouldn't mine on Win10...or any of the versions now that they're sneaking this stuff into all of them.

To infinity and beyond...on two 741s and one of only 3...nope, make that 4...full nodes in Hawaii...on <30A. (I have other gear on the Hoth ice planet)

Ok.  So best links for mining and gaming OS on ssd please.  I have a few systems to finish building to buy miners with, gotta get it done before they devalue.  I just got pissed at Windows 10 nag screens and forced updates then quit.  I like dual boot systems for me and something the masses can use for the ones to sell for miners so some options would be nice.

Hope this isn't too far off-topic. I switched to the Ubuntu flavor of Linux and have been quite pleased. It will do everything (and some further things) that Win will do, but a heckuva lot faster and without the unnecessary crap.

I keep a second boot drive in the workstation with Win10, but only use it when I have to.

I know many folks who use Linux for gaming, and are also pleased. Just Google Linux Ubuntu and you'll find a link to download the code. It fits on a USB drive, and that's what you install it from.

Sadly you will NOT be playing most current and new games on Linux and Non Windows OS-es are plagued with driver issues.

All my gaming rigs and miners are running on Win7/Win8.1 with zero issues, be it for myself or customers.
Just have to set it up 'right' and use good quality parts, not buy the cheapest PoS junk on sale.

Tell me about it! I don't like to complain about these 100%+ blocks, I know it's expected. BUT the work week really drags a lot less when those notifications are pinging!

OK my last off topic comment on this Smiley
I haven't played PC 'action' games since DoD2, RO and Counterstrike2
Every game I ever play (now) is on a console ... avoids spending $1000's every couple of years coz your PC sux vs the latest games.
(Yeah I've got 'lotsa' consoles)
Basically any game that comes on a console is coded to perform the same as everyone else running it and you know it wont be slow for that same reason.

Best shooter game of all time IMO is MAG ... just wish there was a PS4 version.
Best other game ... ... Mario Kart Smiley
The only games, that consoles are problematic on IMO, is RPGs with typing - haven't done any of that since RO.

Soooooo, on topic Smiley ... my desktop is linux, my servers are all linux, the pool servers are all linux, everything is linux - except the consoles Smiley
(and I have an XP VM, needed to run tax stuff Tongue)

My suggestion in that arena is ubuntu coz it's easy to setup and update, and specifically xubuntu coz I abhor unity.

So I guess the Chinese have every S7 - not yet shipped to customers - online mining for them.
Hopefully there will be a block Friday (and I'm awake to raise the hash speed of my rental. Right now it's just idling.)

I hate these dry stretches as it makes it so difficult to know when to rent some extra horsepower.
Any suggestions on strategy are welcome! Thanks! Smiley

Ok. I'm about to try Xubuntu on usb first.   Xubuntu 16.04 LTS I'm thinking to try first, then maybe play with the other later.  Do you guys like LTS or the other version?  I'm not sure if my AV/security suite supports linux, so I need some suggestions there.  Any troubleshooting utilities also, since I can carry this OS.  Linux noob other than ssh via telnet to miners and some ras pi stuff.  Mostly just miner/cgminer stuff.  Load, Hash, clock, chip etc...

Sorry not sorry for being off topic from pool a bit, but I'm excited about the possibility of new miners so I can get back in the game.  Point some owned rigs to Kano.  I may even go get some jobs to get it going proper.  I'm also trying to keep busy while waiting on this long block, when your 90 percent rentals it stresses you out.  The answers I get here are better than anywhere else.  Most times when I ask this stuff, I get an answer and think meh I'll just research it myself.  But yous guys gots good brains in yer head Smiley

Your right about many of the games dreamer, a lot of my HTPC/Gaming customers wouldn't go linux because the games they liked were not supported.  I was ok with Win 8.1 until Win 10 came out.  Then updates add win 10 problems and the win 10 nag malware started screwing things up. Trying to force bullshit OS they can't give away and pretty much mucking it all up like some of you talked about in detail.

I'm sure the Chinese feast will end soon man.  They are not really above what they were running before. Ant is at 343PH. Last time I checked a week ago they were at 346PH. F2pool also the same speed as last week. Pretty much the same conditions almost with a tiny diff drop.  I just got a week on a couple small rigs.  My NH is about to run out and I'll just wait for more blocks before I go taking risks.  I'm a small fry though so I'm sure someone else could advise you better.  Really though everything is almost the same as last go round and we have a better weekly luck average.

Here's a great utility to get rid of the Win10 Nagware.  GRC is a very reputable source.
