Couldn't you let us load the firmware ourselves?
They definitely could, but that would mean they would not be able to test and verify the functionality. Anything that CAN go wrong WILL go wrong, and as a customer, I'm sure you'd rather receive all units that are in functioning order. A smoke test/burn in is the best way to go before shipment. Exactly so. I would rather have a delay on initial order instead of risk getting defective product. Might be a different story if they'd ship before any other asic however.

That's what one of the other FPGA companies did and they took a hit at their reputation and killed sales.

bASIC Announcements
Other Updates / Time Frames
Inside of two weeks we will have the full schematics of the production boards completed and I will release graphic renders so you can see what they look like. (spoiler) They will be silk screened black this time with red lettering which will read "bASIC SHA256 Bitcoin Mining Device - BitcoinASIC.com"
And 2-3 weeks after the deisgn is completed I will have a handful of production boards made (this takes about 5 days) - with pictures on the web site and these boards will be sent to the developers I mentioned before
Luke-JR TheSeven ckvolias Kano
With a little luck this will all happen within the month of October.
Is there a link to a site with these updates/info ?? Awesomeness,BFL has competition now!!!!!!!!!!!!! So,I'm assuming CGminer will have support for your ASICS upon release,Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!! Are the graphic renders out yet ?

End of day...
Let me answer some questions:
(q) can we load the firmware ourselves and receive my order untested? (a) this is a bad idea, if I were to let anyone do this - it would completely void any warranty you have with me. There's no way I can put a warranty on an item such as this that I have not tested, and there's no way I could replace it or refund your money in case of a DOA shipment. It's really not worth getting your unit maybe 1 day earlier than you would have gotten it anyways.
(q) Big News Release? (a) as I have stated before our new website is due to launch any day now (or so the web dev guys keep telling me) when we do launch the new site I have a big news release coming that will include
* Board Dimensions for both the 54Gh/s and 27Gh/s models * Quantity of ASIC chips on board * Speed of each chip * Size of ASIC chip on board * BGA Package Type * Cooling details *** possibly graphic renders if the engineers can get me them in time.
The web site will be much better than our old site which we are growing out of more and more every day. I can't wait to share it with you!
Have a good night and see you in the morning
Tom

Does "Size of ASIC chip on board" refer to the process node, such as 130nm or 90nm?

I do not think so. I think what Tom was saying here was the size of the chip package. ie, the dimensions of the chip on the board.

Good Morning, It's October 10th 2012 Today's Agenda:- Going down to the new office space and work on getting it ready
- Talk to web developers about when the new site will be ready
- Ask the engineering firm if they can get me some graphic renders of the board for website launch
- Customer service later this afternoon
I will be out of the office this morning, need to start working on the new office space to get it ready, the business line will be forwarding to my cell if anyone needs me or has any questions. I will be doing customer service / answering emails when I get back this afternoon. If you dont want to wait for an email please by all means give me a call. See you later and have a great day! Have you ironed out the details on upgrading from a ModMiner Quad to a bASIC yet? Or will that also be part of the big news release?

I'm no expert, but it makes sense to me I use bitminter and hope that your hardware works with it's java based mining software. ||bit

I don't know about other systems... I've had problems trying to figure out cgminer quickly. It seemed like it would be simple, but setup was not intuitive to me and the help file were poorly made (I think the format examples in the help file were wrong). I had no idea from where to run it...command promt or a window. And trying to disable the GPU using helpfile examples didn't give me any indications it was working in the DOS window (though I still wasn't even sure was the right place to run the program). Anyway, it didn't take long at all to lose patience with it. A friend told me he used bitminter, and found it from a link on BFL's website. Starting it was just toooo easy and using it's interface was intuitive. So, I've been using it ever since with no real problems. ||bit
