Let's look at BFL's refund policy:

Quote
Payments made for pre-orders of ASIC based products now under development should be considered non-refundable until products begin shipping or 1 January 2013

Talk about trolling. Giving Tom a hard time for a refundable policy, when you offer a "non-refundable" policy. GTFO Inaba.

Seems like I touched a nerve with the power issue, hmm... I look forward to Tom's clarification.

As for BFL specs, we can discuss that in another thread.
Point the way, I have read that the FPGA single was plagued not by 1 factor, but by 3.

Performance, Ambient temperature requirements and finally Electrical use.

BFL is "on the record" as having resolved to this date two of the above issues. (Electrical use and Performance per watt)

So the third issue (Ambient operating temperature) is the remaining factor that remains very elusive as a specification.

-----------------------------

The ambient temperature is just as important as the other two. As this determines whether air conditioning is required for the devices in warm environments. (at 1kw ->2kw per hour per air conditioner)

Once the other two (Avalon and bASIC) are further along, they will also have to deal with this very critical issue.

I believe it was stated once that Inaba (BFL_Josh) has stated that he has worked in datacenter environments. Which means he is intimately familiar on why they keep the CRAC units turned on 24x7 for the servers and other hosted devices.

Therefore, I hope that he lets us all know that BFL products will be very comfortable in 90+F environments. Otherwise this may skew the 60watt performance rating of non-air conditioned units.

I will wait for Inaba (BFL_Josh) to open a thread on this topic soon to reassure their customers that this will not be an issue and is in fact a selling point of their hardware.

@ Inaba (BFL_Josh)

Will you ever get around to discussing this point in another thread with specificity?

I got bored watching my new address hashin

Let's not jerk Tom's thread off topic with angry posts.

At least do it while he is watching and not out of town.

When he is here to defend himself you can jerk it off topic as much as you want and bitch about power consumption.

Hey can you point me to someone who hasn't gotten a refund who's asked for one?  No?  Why not?

I'm not trolling, I'm a customer asking a legitimate question.  Or so I've been told hundreds of times by people in BFL threads, so it must be true, right?

If you're searching these lines for a point, you've probably missed it.  There was never anything there in the first place.

As a customer, I feel that the power issue is a critical issue and I do not feel that it's unreasonable to expect an answer from Tom on the subject.  Every other ASIC outfit has put out power figures, except Tom.  It makes me wonder why he's so reluctant to put out power estimates, especially with the understanding that they may be off by as much as 20%.

But in any case, I would like to know what's considered "competitive."

How many times does he have to say it?  I've seen you bring it up twice, and him indicate twice why he hasn't.  Asking again won't accomplish anything.

Who should I believe? The official BFL website or some pseudonym posting on an open forum?

I know you're pissed that people give you a hard time in your own threads, but you doing it in a competitor's thread, posting under a pseudonym to hide your official business. Well, this is what's known as a "concern troll".

So, you'll publicly admit to trying to de-rail this guys thread and business, all because you suspect him of secretly doing the same to you? That's fairly appalling, isn't it?

If you act like your worst customers, you will be left with only them eventually. You are also publicly setting the bar for interaction very low and encouraging others to treat YOU this way in the future.

Inaba, you are acting like a used car dealer hanging around the competitors car lot telling everyone what a crook he is. Your PR actions by posting accusations and harping on at length while Tom is out of town are unethical and unsavory. You may be a customer, but it looks like a Ford dealer that owns a Chevy just to complain.

You know I both believe in the products you guys are producing and have ordered them, same with Tom, but this sniping does nobody any good.

Let the Trolls and shills do their own work, your job is Public Relations if I remember rightly.

Please take it elsewhere, I come to this thread for updates from Tom, not you.

I wonder if Inaba the Douche-Nozzle spent less time trolling, and more time on his pool, if it would go for more than a day without issues.

I wonder if Inaba the Douche-Nozzle spent less time trolling, and more time on his pool, if it would go for more than a day without issues.

A few months ago I switched to EMC to try it out. After running there for a week or so I notice my payout dropped by 10-15% vs. other pools. The luck seemed to be about average but there were constant connection and other issues. Inaba kept posting that it was this or that issue and no worries it's fixed, but then a day later it would crap out again. This was around when he introduced the diff server which seemed to knock out the us1,2,3 servers.

It was clear Inaba has no idea how to run a production server as he was treating production like a test environment. Mistakes all over the place, and very defensive reactions. One time I posted a strange block time artifact, he replied that it was fixed and how could I be so stupid as to post that. But his original reply that it was fixed happened BEFORE the time stamp on the problem I brought up, so obviously it wasn't fixed. Childish.

The thing is you can't do this with ASICs, you have to be 100% fully tested and 100% confident before tape-out. I used to be in the field and have completed many designs, mistakes can not be allowed. If EMC is any indication of BFL's quality control, I'd be worried if I was a pre-order customer there...

This is just pathetic having a BFL shill try to stir up shit in this thread. I don't care if Inaba has a bASIC on pre-order, he posts still reek of trolling. I had considered splitting up my order between the two companies to protect myself from late delivery but I think instead I'll go bASIC and bitcoins.

Why did BFL hire Inaba? If they needed someone to spread FUD wouldn't it have been cheaper to just throw a few bitcoins at forum trolls to get the job done?

Meanwhile on the actual thread subject ... can anyone post their numbers for a recent MMQ?

I'm running the v0.4-ljr-alpha firmware (without TML) and the bitstream from back whenever (from cgminer)

I've got cgminer working OK with my MMQ but I wonder if I've been rather optimistic in adjusting the clocks?

I'll put up a pull request of the first set of changes once I'm sure it's not too optimistic and going to cause anyone's MMQ to get damaged easily.

Anyway my numbers on a 2hr 20min run are (1 diff shares):
Temps are 36 to 42
Av 838 MH/s
A:1569  R:4  HW:30 -> so 1.9% HW errors
(and yes those numbers are all correct if anyone was wondering)
