But nowadays altcoins seem to retain their fiat price when BTC rises rather than rising with it like before.
This can be true only if (1) BTC rises enough and (2) the specific crypto doesn't drop too much. This current BTC rise will not last long, the BTC dump is on the horizon as everybody spends their profits for the holiday season and then it will flow back into alternatives on it's way back down to the 200 USD levels. Cool

The 'old world' of altcoins is dead. It died with Mintpal and the scams that preceeded it. It also died with the knowledge that bitcoin wasn't being mass adopted it was being mass manipulated. We will thus see all good alts undervalue before the next boom cycle.

VNL is probably the first 'new world' alts I have bought.
Spot on, some new "new world" alts would be interesting. I laugh when people claim BTC has "mass adoption" because I myself cannot use it (in person) within 500 miles of where I currently reside. These people must think everybody lives in the San Francisco Bay area. It will be interesting watching the "old world" try to deal with scalability now that their blockchains have grown and the problems are creeping up. I suspect most coins will become abandoned seeing majority of all crypto-currency developers are not qualified programmers much less have the skills to make unscalable code scalable. Cool

I probably have nowhere within 500 miles of me to spend bitcoin either, but I can and do buy anything I want with bitcoin via Amazon/Purse,
and it saves me a lot of money. Of course there is also Dell, Virgin, Microsoft, Tigerdirect, Newegg, and Overstock.com, but I prefer to buy or
mine btc and then buy whatever I want at 20-30% off fiat price via Purse. I really think it is a killer app for btc, see my sig.

Not sure if this is worth it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2po40d/since_my_house_is_being_searched_right_now_small/

even though they offer http://www.coindesk.com/purse-io-offers-10000-cover-to-users/

So you've never had any problems ordering through them?

Maybe their system is better now, but I've never used them.

Yeah I heard about that. One guy in Germany and there was more to the story. No one has had a problem ever since. There was a recent email hack and if you didn't use 2FA a few people lost 10 btc, but Purse instantly made it right. No more growing pains than any new btc company, and I have never had anything but good experiences with it.

Why would my last two deposits sent from supernova  not show up in my wallet but shows up on Block Explorer .The first deposit was from 2015-10-22 11:16:33 and the second one from 2015-10-23 13:51:04 neither one has showed up in my wallet yet .
also check if you are on 0.3.8
restart your wallet, you must be off and check what block you are on vs vnl.suprnova.cc

I'd like to setup a node to profit from some VNL. For this I need to buy VNL and so I need to know the amount I have to buy. What's the minimum amount of VNL that have to be in the wallet to start winning VNL ? Is there any special requirement, like received in 1 transaction, to have a certain age... ? Is there things to write in the command to start the node ?

You need 10000 VNL send in 1 transaction,
opened port ( check in config.dat what port  use your wallet)
set "proof-of-stake" to "0" also at config.dat

Close your wallet, open config.dat and change
Code:
"rescan":"0"
to
Code:
"rescan":"1"
missed transactions must show up, if you sent them to correct wallet address.

1) 10k VNL in 1 transaction to default wallet address
2) Opened port (can be found in config.dat)
3) at least 15min uptime
