1122  Economy / Economics / Re: Retirement Age for Workers - Does this Make Sense? on: December 19, 2023, 10:32:29 AM
Quote
France's Constitutional Council on Friday approved an unpopular plan to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64, in a victory for President Emmanuel Macron after three months of mass protests over the legislation that have damaged his leadership.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/france-retirement-age-raise-64-approved-constitutional-council/

This so-called measure has several benefits and drawbacks. The elder employees can benefit from their years of experience if they are retained on the job for longer, which is one advantage. The drawback of this is that many workplaces will report low performance because there is an inverse relationship between a person's success at work and their deterioration in cognitive and physical capacities.

Regardless, what I think is that the government shouldn't shove it down the throat of people. Workers who are approaching retirement age should be given a choice after appraisal to keep working or retire.

What sense does this make? Would you agree or disagree?

Raising Retirement Age when the life expectancy has become longer is actually make sense. The reason why retirement age exist is because at certain age a person was deemed to be unreliable to do some task. But along with the development of medical and nutritional science, people will have better life quality, compared to the previous generation, the later generation must have better nutrition and life style. And the result is that previously people who are on their 60s considered to be less reliable, but with better food and life-style nowadays people are still able to work even after their 60s.

All that being said, I would still prefer that elder are given a choice whether they are willing to continue to do their job or just retire.

Exactly! especially now that some older people, they are no longer able to reach the age of 60 because of the diseases and illnesses they have but having an advance technology and good vitamins and medicines, they will live longer and have a vigorous body with the help of supplements and taking care of their health. Here in our country, There are still some International companies who are still accepting retired aged employee to continue doing their job as long as they are capable and has no any other illnesses and I think that's right, just give them a chance to choose continuing and leaving their work because of their age..
1123  Economy / Economics / Re: Insurance is important on: December 19, 2023, 10:12:39 AM
In my country, this is the common thought about any type of insurance.
"I'm still strong, why I need one?"
"I'm young why do I need to avail?"
"I'm far from dying"
You know these common thoughts of every countryment that we have and I am one of them but that's before. I've changed my mind as I get older and I started to understand things like this and have seen people and family struggled because they have never come prepared for their death.

Typical mindset of people ages 40's-50's in our country, I mostly heard that kind of statement if someone's offer them to get an insurance, maybe people have a valid reason why they doesn't want to have one policy, Either they cannot afford the monthly payment of they don't believe that insurance will work for them. Today, there's a circulating issue in social media about insurances, they claimed that those Financial advisor didn't explained well to them the benefits and limitations of the insurance they bought and the post indicated that it was one of the things that gave them more problems because they expected to be able to use the insurance but in the end they didn't because there were things that the financial advisors didn't explain properly. Seems like they doing their job just to get a client and hit the qouta without giving a proper explanation to their customers.
1124  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Most gamblers do not believe they can consistently make money, that's why... on: December 19, 2023, 09:56:40 AM
They can accept and not dwelling with their losses, instead they will try to re-assess and see if what adjsutment they needed to make their strategy works well for them, an expereineced gamblers most of the time knew that if they will push for more while in the losing streak they will just continue messing with their bankroll.

It's better to call for the day and forget about it, there's always a new day and a new session that they can try it again and who knows if luck will permit they can recover it little by little.
Experienced gamblers will not try harder at gambling because they know that it will only cost them more money. They will try gambling again on another day to see if their strategy can work and if it doesn't work, they will decide to try again on another day. They will adjust their strategy to the conditions on that day and only force themselves to look at other strategies if circumstances allow it.

They know how to behave when gambling. They also do not try to recover their losses due to errors in their strategy so they will just end their gambling game that day. They may not try gambling for a few days to think about other things that might be successful in the next gambling game.
That's true, I have been gambling for over a decade now and I can say that when I start to lose, I just leave and do not really do anything about it. I get that it may feel like there isn't really anything that we could do about it, but that doesn't mean that we are not going to do it at all, we are going to have some hard time.

I personally believe that the best thing to do in this case would be something that may end up helping everyone all the same. I know that it is not going to be that easy, and I know that stopping is the hardest part of gambling, but that's just fine, we need to just arrange something that should benefit everyone all the same. I get that it is going to be quite difficult to handle, and we need to end up with a troublesome issue if we are not careful.

I do believe that leaving gambling is the most difficult thing to do for a gambling addict, that's why It should take time and do it slowly but surely. Also if a gambler is willing to leave gambling, they should set a timeline progress. We have different ways of getting out and freeing  from our problems and as long as you have your willingness to do, you can definitely overcome it when the time is right.
1125  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I could have won bigger. on: December 19, 2023, 09:15:50 AM

Good day everyone,,, I would like to share my winning with you guys, but I am not just doing it because I won the bet, but it is because it wasn't the amount I wanted to stake that I staked.

A friend of mine collected $10 from me earlier yesterday and I wanted to use the money to gamble, but based on, he is my friend. I gave him the $10 he asked for, and the guy said he would return the $10 back ASAP after 3 hours, but he didn't and the $10 was the amount and same money I wanted to use and stake a bet (I have some coins but don't have cash and I don't want to sell any penny of my coins for any reason). But letter on, I used 1000 naira ($1) to stake the bet and I won 49,814 naira (about $50+).

Now I am angry at my friend because he didn't keep to his words. Although I am still happy about the win, I wish he had given me back the $10. Then, I would have win bigger money.

Your feeling is valid and charge to experience, If you have any plans to use the money prior lending it to your friend, It's better to choose what's your priority, I'm not a fan of lending money even to my close friends unless it's for emergency purposes, Case to case basis but If he used it to other things like gambling, I will take my own money and not lending him because I know that sometimes, they are the one who doesn't keep their words.
1126  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can loneliness make one addicted to gambling on: December 19, 2023, 09:07:56 AM
It depends on a person's mental state, if they are lonely and gamble, they are not 100% addicted to gambling, it's just because of the frustration they experience and don't know where to calm themselves, even when they gamble, it's not just winning or losing, it could be an outburst. their emotions, usually people like this will recover after they have a calmer mind

I'm not even sure if an addicted gambler could calm themselves and not think about gambling every single minute. I knew someone back then who cant stop thinking about gambling and he cant even calm himself even with a huge loss, he'd literally go back at it again if he can find another spare money that he can burn in gambling. Lucky he hasn't become a criminal out of frustration when all of his money are exhausted after lossing so much in gambling.

Yes, there are gamblers who can't control their emotion after suffering from big losses, they will keep trying to play back once they already
have some spare to deposit again.

I think it's a human behavior that really hard to control, for some, they are capable but for most they are willing to risk everything in order to fill out
the desire inside them.

It's important to have the balance, not just because you sort to gambling to feel that entertainment, but you also need to consider the risk
once you get attach and unable to quit away.

yup, and even they get some advice from others, they can't do that because they really don't know how to control their mind. Sometimes even if a person consults to a professional, there's still no guarantee for them that they can prevent the loneliness and obsession that they are feel. Everyone has their own capabilities of handling problems and I hope all of us will conquer that without sacrificing our physical and metal health.
1127  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which type of gambling have more gambling addicts ? on: December 19, 2023, 03:19:26 AM
I don't know if this has been discussed before or not.

Reading about gambling addiction I don't think it's a new topic, but fitting to be in here, I just want to ask: between casino gambling, in-house gambling, and one-on-one gambling with physical players available on the table, which among these is more likely to turn someone into a gambling addict if the person doesn't have self-control in all his gambling activities?

Now are days I see much or all this in house gamblers becoming addicted and acting weird over gambling results, and walking down into some betting shop, you will see most of those gamblers spending their whole day in the gambling shop, which made me have the above question. I know any form of gambling can produce gambling addicts, but among all, there is one that is most common, which is what I want to hear from others.

I don't think that there's a specific type of gambling for you to become addicted to it, because I know some person who gets addicted by playing in casino, one-on-one and in house gambling. I can't say that they have a similarities but it depends to a person how they can manage their gambling habit. Maybe now, if you look at it, we can see that more and more people are addicted to online casinos because it is more convenient to play games especially during the height of the pandemic when people are forbidden to go out. But in reality, it's not about what kind of gambling you try to play, even if it's low class gambling, if someone really finds it hard to control their emotions, they'll even end up addicted.
1128  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Type of gambling and Intelligence on: December 18, 2023, 01:27:14 PM
Does the type of game you play at a casino or sports you bet on show an individual's level of intelligence or how smart a person is?
Blackjack, Poker, slots, roulette, baccarat, sports betting, horse racing, betting on sociopolitical events, keno, etc.
I'm a gambler who always choose easier games, like rolling and saw results in just a single click, does it make me less intelligent? So if i try poker which needs more skills do i become more intelligent? It doesn't nake sense, especially it does not give you higher probability to win.

Same here! I got your point, Even if I always want to play easy gambling slots and easier games doesn't mean I'm less intelligent than those people who prefers to play hard games. It's just that, I prefer the easier one because I don't want to think more because I'm doing gambling just for fun and to relax, not to be stress and problematic by thinking more about the game, So it really depends and we can't judge a persons intelligence limitation based on their preferred activities and complexity of their chosen gambling.
1129  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Risk management and responsible gaming on: December 18, 2023, 01:20:24 PM
Each government think difficultly. Some governments will allow gambling for generating tax for them, some governments prevent their citizens from gambling but allow for foreigners only and some governments totally restricted gambling in their countries. But no government can totally stop gambling as there are many ways for gamblers to bypass. So better to work for awareness so that a gambler can become responsible. I like the self exclusion idea and related organization who work for Gambling. This could be important initial step in helping gamblers to control their gambling. If a gambler is dedicative enough then addiction in gambling could be solve.
There are places on which their government would really be minding about the citizens condition and situation on which they wont really be liking on letting them to get involved with gambling.
Well, its good but majority of these places or government would really be mindful about taxes, they wont care about citizens condition as long they could be able to tax then it would really be just that fine. Well, we do know on how taxes do works and how it do really help out economic development and advancement but they should be at least having that moderation so that gambling addiction
wont really be that bad and severe on which we know that it is really that too bad if ever that happens. In overall, it would really be just that depending on a certain individual
decisions because we cant really just blame out all to the government.

I heard and once read a thread that there are gambling sites that offer services to reduce the intensity of gambling or even stop gambling. Maybe this is also a request from the local government so that the gambling site passes and can operate in that country. This may be an effort by both parties to protect consumers and citizens.

I think I've read it before but I just can't quite remember where and when. The question is, did that gambling site really helps to reduce the number of people getting addicted to gambling? If yes, then it should be implemented and available in other countries too.I think it will be very helpful to everyone who really wants to have a control in their gambling habits.

What do you mean by "knows your internet" and "leverage your holdings"?

The blockchain is public, but without the private keys you cannot prove ownership or perform any action on the wallet.

- Jay -

Exactly! even if the blockchain is public and our transactions is visible, that doesn't mean that our accounts is not safe. In fact, We didn't know whose account are having a large bitcoin holdings, right? our wallet and private keys remains safe and private unless you want to disclose your identity in public.
1131  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Passionate gambler keeps the gambling boards rolling even after retirements on: December 18, 2023, 12:23:05 PM
I am pretty certain that it won't cost me a thing to stop gambling at a certain age or when I feel it's time to retire, because right now I just do gambling for fun sake, I don't plan to make money from gambling because that will be the beginning of a chapter that I am not prepared for, gambling for fun will safe your ass from gambling addiction, many might not like this claim of mine but it's fine, I believe this makes a lot of differences between gamblers, not many of them are gambling for fun, most are doing it to make money.

For whoever this might hurt I am sorry, gambling isn't existing to enrich everyone, the math behind gambling is to make someone rich and take it back from a thousand of people, and that rich one is enough to attract the thousand of people into gambling, thinking the same thing can happen to them.
I understand your perspective when it comes to gambling and It is good to hear that the only way for you to prevent being addicted to it is by having a mindset of doing gambling for fun and not for making money. We will respect everyone's opinion here and besides we are all aware that most of gamblers focus on gambling to make money and we can't control them for having a mindset like that.

1133  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Prove me wrong: Gambling is both more relaxing and entertaining than trading! on: December 18, 2023, 06:09:26 AM
I don't know about relaxing but I do agree that gabling is more entertaining than trading because you don't need to take gambling seriously unlike with trading where you need to put your game face on because you're playing with your money and a slight change is an opportunity for you to earn a profit so you can't afford to be dilly dally. Also, it's really hard to compare these two because gambling and trading is so different from one another and even if they say it's just like gambling, it's still isn't the same to me.

This is what I'm going to say. For me, gambling is more interesting and entertaining than trading but I can't say that this is more relaxing because both of them requires money. I can say that gambling gives us more positive vibes because of their visuals and type of game unlike on trading that focuses in more serious visuals that's why many people says gambling can give them relaxation and entertainment even if both of them requires money that has no guarantee of winning and losses.
1134  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you take time to read the terms and conditions of casinos before registering? on: December 18, 2023, 06:06:14 AM
The terms and conditions of casinos and other companies is usually very lengthy and somehow boring for some people. Hence , many people rarely find time to read them. They may actually contain some of the complaints that people raise about some casinos such requiring KYC if there is need or suspicion of money laundering activities.

What is your take on this?
Nah, I personally don't read it to be honest. It is really gets you boring reading that lengthy terms but yeah I think majority of gamblers don't read it as well. As a gambler I only think the important thing like what's commonly prohibited or the "don'ts and do's" of every casino either online or offline to avoid future problems.

many gamblers are just like you, sometimes we have no time to scroll those lenghty terms and conditions because we get bored and find it quite to understand and sometimes the reason why you don't read it is because of your trust about the gambling company but at least somehow, we all lend a time to read it because it's for our own safety.
1135  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling should be play with care on: December 17, 2023, 11:24:34 AM
Imo everything where money are involved must be done with care. Otherwise they will turn into sand and will slide awat through your fingers. Even if gambling for fun. Careless money management decreases fun time. Even rich should have careless attitude towards money. Some might say that I am old, greedy or scrooge, but I feel annoyed every time I see someone spend money like they dont care all. Perhaps I just know how sometimes it is hard to earn Smiley

That's true, earning money nowadays is quite difficult so you have to be more careful when it comes on your spending habits. I agree that even those rich people tends to care about their spending even if we saw some of them buying stuffs and spend more in gambling, I think they are aware and has their limitations in their money, sometimes you only see the value of money when you work hard to earn it yourself
1136  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which one is fun, watching with bet or without a bet? on: December 17, 2023, 09:41:39 AM
Watching with bet used to be more enjoyable than just watching a match. When you've placed a bet on a match, it makes us watch the match and gives us the opportunity to avoid loss if things were against our prediction. Apart from the same my preference used to be live betting which lets us predict the outcome in a much closer manner.

Not for me though, when I watch the game and I see my team aren't playing well, everytime I do a live bet, I have experience losing most of the time. So it's not working for me, watching it and thinking of live betting will only make the situation worse, unless you are a professional sports bettor and you have a data to back up your pick, however, if it's "emotion-based" bet, forget it.

We're the same, that's why I don't really watch anymore when I have a bet because I can't focus watching because the other half of my mind is busy thinking about my bet and thinking if I'm going to win or not, seems like being an overthinker can really manifest the thing that they're thinking which somehow results of losing.

1138  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Coins.ph Official Thread on: December 17, 2023, 09:18:12 AM

1139  Economy / Economics / Re: Pay discrimination on: December 17, 2023, 09:13:08 AM
If blue collar jobs pay can be increased as they do for the white collar jobs, it will be nice. This discrimination we are talking about can also be viewed from another perspective. If there was no one with deep knowledge who had gone to school to teach the craftsmen about their work, there will be no work for them to do.

In the same way, if there’s no new innovations to make the craftsmen manage their work well, there will be no options to what they can do with the little knowledge they’ve mastered over the years. There is a reason why the system is designed this way, it can’t be changed but can be adjusted to favor the blue collar workers too.
And blue collar jobs deserve the salary increase that they demand because of their capabilities to do in a work, they do physical work activities which requires additional pay. Nobody is looking down on blue collar jobs but sometimes, people treated you based on your job or educational background which is definitely discrimination. Correct me if I'm wrong but there are some countries who gives well compensation to their blue collar job workers because they believe that the salary should be balance based on the weight of the work.
1140  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who among you here is gambling at work? on: December 17, 2023, 08:46:40 AM
You can only gamble in your workplace if you have the time to do so,

Even if they have time to access online casinos via their computer or smartphone, it is still unethical for an employee to do so at work, let alone during work time.
do individual activities like that after finishing work. or in your free time on your work holidays. that's better to do.
Those who carry out gambling activities even at very busy times, I think are beginner gamblers who are starting to get addicted to gambling games. senior gamblers are unlikely to do that.

I beg to disagree on your last statement, Mostly those notorious gambler who preferrably do gambling during working hours are those people who's been in the gambling industry for a long time. The seniority are the reason that's why they have a strong desire to do that because they've been used to it since the beginning.
