I don't get how to set it up. I've read the instructions. Tried to do it several times but I keep screwing up.

It's just a standard program; you install it just as you would install any other software.

How is this difficult at all? In my experience, MultiBit is the simplest wallet I've tried till date; for installation as well as usage.

Do you do anything after it's installed? Like import anything?

If you would like to transfer your coins from other wallet, yes you can import the private keys.

But if you're starting from scratch, there is nothing you have to import. You start with a fresh address; one address is already generated for you when you start MultiBit first time.

That won't pass google play developer policies.

"Gambling: We don’t allow content or services that facilitate online gambling, including but not limited to, online casinos, sports betting and lotteries, or games of skill that offer prizes of cash or other value."

Basically, you have to create a new way for users to obtain and interact with cryptos without overwhelming and scaring off the user.

Maybe not for Android, but for iPhone. Looks like Apple doesn't have such policy in place, otherwise this wouldn't have happened:

Do we have a gui wallet?

We're all waiting for it.

Apparently the next update is believed to include some significant changes which includes a GUI wallet
But we can't say anything for sure because devs have been quite lately. No firm news on anything.

WoW, what a story! hopefully that fat criminal has to go to prison soon´ish!

http://www.coindesk.com/mt-gox-ceo-mark-karpeles-implicated-silk-road-trial/

Though I'm not sure whether he's guilty of having anything to do with Silk Road I think it's only a matter of time before he gets busted for something. I think the gox thing was likely an inside job rather than an external hacking and it'll be interesting to see what comes of the gox investigation.

Even Tokyo police now believes that it was an inside job. It's only a matter of time before that fat guy gets what he deserves. I am eagerly waiting.

1225  Bitcoin / Press / [2015-01-16] Vice: Defense in Silk Road Trial Says Mt. Gox CEO Was the Real DPR on: January 16, 2015, 05:36:46 AM
Quote
The defense team for Ross Ulbricht, the 30-year-old man accused of running the online black market Silk Road under the pseudonym Dread Pirate Roberts, just dropped an unexpected new theory: Mark Karpeles, the CEO of failed Bitcoin company Mt. Gox, is the real Dread Pirate Roberts.

"We have the name of the real mastermind and it's not Ulbricht," Joshua Dratel, Ulbricht's lawyer, said in his opening statement in the trial. It now seems clear that he plans to argue that Karpeles framed Ulbricht.

[Update 1/15/15, 8:55 pm: Karpeles has denied the allegation in an email to Motherboard: "I am not Dread Pirate Roberts ... I have nothing to do with Silk Road and do not condone what's happening there."]

The defense is clearly trying to raise reasonable doubt by implying that someone else could have been responsible for the site, which did more than a billion dollars in underground commerce for drugs, false IDs, and more before being shut down in October of 2013.

Dratel was cross-examining Jared DerYeghiayan, a homeland security special investigation agent who opened a case into Silk Road. DerYeghiayan now says he believes Ulbricht is the culprit, but Dratel presented evidence that he once had a different theory: back in 2012, DerYeghiayan was convinced that Dread Pirate Roberts was Karpeles.

I have a wealth of evidence to prove that [Karpeles] is Dread Pirate Roberts

"I have a wealth of evidence to prove that [Karpeles] is Dread Pirate Roberts," the agent wrote at the time.

Karpeles, who is from France, ran what was once the world's largest Bitcoin exchange, Mt. Gox, which was based in Tokyo. DerYeghiayan's theory was that Karpeles wanted to create a market that used Bitcoin in order to keep the price of the semi-anonymous cryptocurrency robust, which he believed was probable cause for Karpeles's arrest. (Mt. Gox went bankrupt in early 2014.)

"[Silk Road] would be a device for leveraging the value of Bitcoin, and if he could create a site independent of Bitcoin, you could control the value of Bitcoin," Dratel said, reading from DerYeghiayan's emails.

DerYeghiayan believed his evidence was so strong that he even drafted a search warrant for Karpeles's email in May of 2013.

At the same time, a parallel investigation had opened in Baltimore. DerYeghiayan told those agents not to contact Karpeles, for fear of spooking him too early. The Baltimore investigators didn't listen, and instead seized a site run by Karpeles that had assets of more than $3 million, according to today's testimony.

When the Baltimore investigators asked Karpeles about Silk Road, he said he would tell them the name of the person behind the site.

After this happened, DerYeghiayan wrote a long memo to the Baltimore investigators excoriating them for interfering with his investigation.

The court adjourned for a break before Dratel could ask DerYeghiayan about what happened next. The trial has now resumed for the afternoon and is expected to take about a month. Motherboard will continue to cover this and other developments.

Update, 6:15 PM: The trial has temporarily adjourned. The prosecution is objecting to the use of aspects of DerYeghiayan's investigation into Karpeles as evidence.

There's already some confusion as to what the defense is arguing, so some clarification: The prosecution initially balked at the defense's questioning of DerYeghiayan about Karpeles. Judge Katherine Forrest responded by saying "[the defense is] trying to raise reasonable doubt that the defendant is the real DPR," adding "How else would you do it?"

At that point, Ulbricht's defense hedged, saying that "we are drawing inferences" as to who the real Dread Pirate Roberts may be. The judge countered by saying, "The defense has been building a picture all afternoon that Karpeles was Dread Pirate Roberts or a Dread Pirate Roberts. That has come out in spades, that that is their argument. That cat is out of the bag."

The trial will resume Tuesday.

1226  Other / Off-topic / Re: I need to gain weight and muscle mass...best methods please on: January 16, 2015, 05:05:17 AM
I'm a lanky, newly single guy. Before I never thought I'd need to look nice but with me just having turned 21 and now single I'm trying to bulk up. And quick.

What methods do you guys recommend? I'm working out daily and taking 2 scoops of weight gainer daily, 2 scoops of whey after workouts, and a shake of casein protein before bed. Each scoop has roughly 25 grams of protein.

Anything else to help? I'm 21 and weight 135 lbs sadly...I'm a guy. I had ADHD as a kid and the meds killed my appetite which is why I'm so skinny now as an adult.

I was in same boat sometime back; with controlled process and diet, I gained about 5 kilos within 2 months. I know it's not rapid, but it worked.

you need to follow the process step-by-step, increasing your diet and exercise at each level; for more information refer to this guide:

1227  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: How can we create a provably fair Ponzi Game ? on: January 16, 2015, 04:57:41 AM
Ponzi Games are getting interesting, but as well as it is getting risky. Operators are keeping things hazy to the investors. As a coder I am preparing to launch a provably fair ponzi game. Would like to know what are the points people are suggesting to cover so that we can minimize the risk as well as make it provably fair and interesting.

Ideas are welcome. Please make this discussion constructive...

I think you should ensure the last person to invest gets his investment back if there are no further deposits.
Most people are afraid to invest after deposits are stagnant for a while, with the fear of being the last one and losing the coins.

Moreover you should arrange for an escrow who holds 'payback' money in case the ponzi fails to deliver on its promises.
1228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Buying ALL your FlappyCoins on: January 16, 2015, 04:53:31 AM
Actually, there aren't much being dumped on Cryptsy. I'm looking to buy up to about 1 billion coins at the moment and to do that on cryptsy would pump the price up to about 40 lit.

Wow, that's a lot. May I ask what you want to do with them?

Maybe create a smartphone game like Flappy Bird that rewards the users in Flappy Coins?

Or maybe not, but nothing else comes to my mind when I think about it.

People often recommend getting Mac for less-tech savvy users, since most viruses are targeted towards Windows. Some geeks switch over to Linux.

In view of this, a recent news might come as interesting:
http://www.zdnet.com/article/macs-vulnerable-to-virtually-undetectable-virus-that-cant-be-removed/

Mac have a vulnerability that can't be detected and is virtually impossible to remove.
Someone just needs to physically gain access to your Mac for a few minutes and it's done.

Same applies for any OS with accessible USB ports, see BadUSB.

I remember reading about BadUSB a few weeks ago, I just wasn't sure how bad it was.

AFAIK, it was showcased by some black hat hackers at some linux event.
The nature of how USB drives are built makes it impossible to avoid the malware and there's nothing you can do about it unless USB drives are manufactured in some different way.

1233  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it possible to physically generate a private key + BTC address? on: January 15, 2015, 11:47:26 AM
Thank you, guys. From what i read, I've reached the conclusion that it's not worthy to physically generate a paper wallet.

Which means I instead want to generate it from an offline software. But the problem with that is I want one totally safe. And as long as my system will later connect to the internet, I believe there is no software completely safe to generate my address and key, because a malware could record them.

So I either need to format my hd right after generating the address, which I don't want to do, or I need to buy a new hd JUST to generate a BTC address (ok and later perhaps use armory when I want to spend the btc, which is not anytime soon).

So from what I currently understand, I will need to buy a hd, but it's a shame I didn't find a costless, easy and safe way to generate a paper wallet.

You can just use live ubuntu CD to launch MultiBit, print the paper wallet and then shut down the computer. I did the same.

When you run live ubuntu CD, make sure to not connect to internet.
1234  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Price of Bitcoin Doesn’t Matter Right Now | Wired on: January 15, 2015, 11:44:46 AM
You make some good points and I tend to agree with you, especially about the potential of bitcoin/the blockchain and that we're still in the early stages, but what is concerning is at what point can miners still operate and not have to shut up their systems because it is no longer profitable for them to do so?

I think this might be a problem, as it would slow down confirmation times and other things.

Number of miners has nothing to do with the confirmation times.

The difficulty adjusts itself for current hash rate (though it takes some time to adjust) which makes it easy to mine BTC when the hash rate drops, so no matter how many miners are mining Bitcoin, confirmation times should not be a problem.
1235  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can u still have reasons to keep ur bitcoin? on: January 15, 2015, 11:10:54 AM
The price is declining dramatically! All of the negative news are covered in the media!
http://bitcoinobituaries.com
Do u still have strong fresh reasons to hold ur bitcoin? Please share with us?

I have a strong reason.

I bought my Bitcoins at much higher price than today. If I sell now, I am definitely in loss.
If I hold on to them, there is a chance that BTC price will recover and I may be able to get what I invested, or make profit. So I'm probably in loss.

See the difference?

I did not invest more than I can afford to lose, so I will be fine.

1237  Economy / Speculation / Re: The first prediction/playgame for 2015 on: January 15, 2015, 09:59:29 AM
your prediction has been bankrupt, the price is going to $100!!!

If it goes below $100, I'm buying.

Then
If it ever reaches $10,000 then I'm going to retire.
If it crashes to nothing, I will have lost what I can afford to lose, life will go on.
1238  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just a friendly advice for the new guys on: January 15, 2015, 09:55:04 AM
Not going to agree. Faucet might be wasting our time, but.. who know? Those 'little' satoshi we get from faucet might worth one dollar next year. I get into Bitcoin somewhere in 2012/2013 when the price was around 100 USD. I faucet and earn around 20 Cents.. Somewhere in 2014, when Bitcoin price reach 1000 USD.. it became one dollar!

However, dont spend too much time on faucet. Spend more time on Signature campaign.

I agree with you, but you missed my point.

I'm with you in saying you should accumulate all BTC you could afford, but my point is - faucets are a terrible way to do it.
You should instead work a day job and buy BTC with the fiat you earn.

Let's say 'working' on faucets 4 hours a day can get you 1x satoshis.
Now if you work any laborious job for 4 hours, you should have enough fiat to buy 10x satoshis.

That's what I'm saying.
1239  Economy / Speculation / Re: BECOME A MILLIONAIRE OPEN PROJECT: Turn 100$ into a true life. on: January 15, 2015, 09:48:49 AM
It would be more believable if he would say he removed it before the drop happened .

Rightly said. How do we know he didn't buy at $220?
1240  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just a friendly advice for the new guys on: January 15, 2015, 07:40:39 AM
I assume that, when all of us first heard of bitcoins and started reading about it, all of us made our first few satoshis on some faucet like freebitco.in or any other, and everything was like "I'm gonna make so much bitcoins with this!". But when you use if for some time and get a little bit more into bitcoin, you'll see that that amount you've collected over a week or so, is barely worth a penny.
So here's the advice, when you first come here and read all about them faucets, don't get your hopes up (like I did) thinking you will make something out of it. Owners of those faucets are the only ones who will profit. Faucets are there just in the beginning to help you see what it's like to receive, own, send bitcoins and how to use your wallet.

Use the faucets, see how it feels to have bitcoins but don't expect anything more than that.

I just started on the faucet and did my first withdrawal and I'm eager to learn more and earn more now

So you came to this thread that advices newbies to stay away from faucets; and you did just the opposite. Great going.

So it would be very interesting to see how much you earned from the faucet. Kindly post the BTC amount you earned (with transaction ID if possible).
Also, convert your earnings to Dollars at current price and let us know how many 'cents' you earned.
