961  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NEOS]Neos v2.0.2 Released - SHA256, Automatic Backups & more inside on: February 12, 2015, 04:36:19 AM
I just pushed an update out to resolve a glitch in the backup function for Linux-based wallets (but all systems should update just to keep with current releases).  Just click the lightning bolt in the top menu and you'll be updated within a minute or so.  No need to shut down or restart anything.

     Best regards,

syntaks

I'm not on linux, but I am amazed at how this all works.
How many times do you see a wallet that provides on-the-fly updates from inside the wallet?

NEOS has the best wallets in all alt-coins I've come across so far.

Good job, syntaks! A dedicated dev will always have a dedicated community.

Might not be true. AFAIK, AAP accepted bitcoin donation before. But, my information may be wrong. Subvolatil may enlighten us on this issue. Wink

I have also seen it before on Reddit:
http://www.reddit.com/r/aap/comments/1tuq9d/aam_aadmi_party_now_accepts_bitcoins/

But AFAIK, their Bitcoin address seems to have received nothing so far.

Probably very less people understood the Bitcoin logo and the QR code; and those few who understood didn't care about donating anything?

964  Other / Off-topic / Re: Answer the question above with a question. on: February 11, 2015, 04:19:35 PM
Is there any question mark in it?

A question mark?

Why is it so hard to understand?

Dancer In The Dark

"unrelenting in its manipulative sentimentality" - NY Post

"one of the worst films, one of the worst artworks and perhaps one of the worst things in the history of the world." - The Guardian

This one?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0168629/

IMDb has 8/10 rating
Rotten Tomatoes has 91%

I can't figure it out... will have to watch to check  Grin    Or is there any other movie with same name?

No that's the one.  It's astronomically overrated b/c the director is Lars von Trier, the famous Marxist and pretentious pornographer.  People also applaud anything Bjork touches.

Well, thanks for the warning!

Generally when I'm free and bored, I have a tendancy to browse through highest rated IMDb movies and watching them to kill time.
But after your review, I'm gonna put this one in my 'DO NOT WATCH-list'  Cheesy
966  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Blockchain.info down ? on: February 11, 2015, 03:33:39 PM
I am also getting this error right now; this is almost certainly due to higher traffic than what the site can handle.

I'm glad I'm not using it as my wallet to conduct transactions. I'm just using it to check my wallet addresses.
Otherwise I would have had to wait several minutes to gain access to my funds and make a transaction.

969  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many bitcoins do I need to retire in 20 years? on: February 11, 2015, 12:25:22 PM
Lets say I want to buy bitcoins today and store them for 20 years to use a my retirement fund.  Live comfortably, but don't need to buy a yacht or anything.  How many do you think I would need to buy?

Frankly, the question doesn't make any sense. Because there is no guarantee of Bitcoin's price down the line.

If you were to assume a figure for BTC price 20 yrs in future and if you would know how much fiat you need to retire, it is simple math.
But no one knows BTC's future price, so you can make your own assumptions and make your purchase.

Lock this thread and get back to work.

Maybe the finance ministry understands the 'implications' of it, still I'm not sure how many will understand the 'technical' aspects of how it all works.
Nonetheless they'll always rely on what RBI suggests.

That is you still saying that NOONE in Indian politics are qualified enough to have a strong standpoint against or for Bitcoins, I think that is the most silliest opinion of all.

Yes, that is my opinion, no matter how silly it may sound to someone. but I firmly believe it.

And of course if you have opposite opinion, it may sound silly to me. That's why it is called 'personal opinion'. Because it is subjective.

Is dark wallet that altcoin called "bitcoin dark"?  I think I've heard of this but I don't know exactly.

No, Dark Wallet is a BITCOIN wallet that facilitates anonymous Bitcoin transactions.

How big is that?

It's very small. Where did you get 4000x from? I really doubt that is true.

It probably refers to the number of ALL sites not accessible on the public web for whatever reason like company intranets etc., not ONLY Tor.

I remember reading about it on Wikipedia some time back. I just went through it again to verify.
I was mistaken in sighting 4000, it is actually 400 to 550 according to Wikipedia. Still, that's too large.

Quote
Early estimates suggested that the deep web is 400 to 550 times larger than the surface web. However, since more information and sites are always being added, it can be assumed that the deep web is growing exponentially at a rate that cannot be quantified.

Oh look it's this common misunderstanding again.

When people refer to the "dark web" being bigger than the internet, they are not referring to Tor hidden services and the "dark" or "deep" web often referred to by the media.[...]

Thanks, I was also not pretty clear about this concept. You learn something new everyday Smiley

But just for fun lets see what you opinions are to the poll.

With Mr Modi being so tech savvy as he is, I do think he'd be more open towards adopting Bitcoins in India.
On the other hand Bitcoins can really be used to fund some anti social stuff and I think AAP would be the party that would be generally against such a decentralized currency.

Congress is hopeless, they dont believe in arming Indians with guns or Bitcoins for that matter... I wonder if rahul Gandhi is on this forum, or is he sleeping again ?  Roll Eyes

I don't see "NOTA" in there  Tongue

No, seriously...   no Indian political party will support Bitcoin. They won't even understand it.
The only place opinion and regulation can come from is RBI.

You do understand that what you said implies that no person in Indian politics is educated enough to understand BTC. How is that a good judgement ?

Maybe the finance ministry understands the 'implications' of it, still I'm not sure how many will understand the 'technical' aspects of how it all works.
Nonetheless they'll always rely on what RBI suggests.

Secure My Bitcoin Wallet: Bitcoin Security Tips

With the recent high profile compromises and hacks in the Bitcoin ecosystem, Bitcoin wallet security has become an issue of utmost importance. We need to make sure that our wallets are not back-doored, and are not vulnerable to hackers.

http://coinbrief.net/bitcoin-security-wallets/

Thanks for sharing, good info for newbies.

I just went through the list to check if I was following all possible security measures. Turns out I'm still not using a MultiSig wallet. Will have to check it out. Not sure how much important it is when I'm already on paper wallet.
979  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Private Key lost / never had one... on: February 11, 2015, 07:53:21 AM
Ok, I remembered my password for Agora but there is nothing, so it´s at Silkroad, another Darknet site, but Silkroad is down. So I have no chance to get the BTC`s back..? I got no private key when creating it on Silkroad.

If it was on Silk Road, they are pretty much gone.

Silk Road was taken down by government and the owner is going to get a life sentence most likely.
The Bitcoins on Silk Road were seized by government and they are being auctioned to public. you may get them back by taking part in the auction though Tongue
