521  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mysterious Payment on: May 13, 2015, 02:35:15 PM
That's the problem when you post and made available your public address in open discussion. I don't think you can do anything at this point to stop the transaction, so the only way is to switch to a new address. Sometimes when you made a payment or request or accept payment, it will also mean giving away your address

You don't need to post your address publicly in order for spammers to obtain your address.
Remember CLAM coin initial distribution?  Anyone can parse the open block chain and retrieve a list of non-zero balance addresses and then send coins to them. In CLAM's case it was done for good cause to distribute clam coins to existing bitcoin holders. Spammers do it for spamming purpose.

What will people gain from twisting results on such poll? I can't think of a reason for them to do so unless I'm missing something.
To start with myself, I voted for Asia.

I've said "bad people". They don't have to gain anything from it aside from personal satisfaction.  I'm going to assume that you haven't run into someone who is really a bad person in life yet else you would know.
It could partially be: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schadenfreude ; although I'm not sure about the specific condition.

OK, now I'm getting what you're trying to say.
"....to feel, or express, great, often malicious, pleasure, or self-satisfaction, at one's own success, or at another's failure"

That's definitely a possibility.

Let's see how this turn outs to be, though I wouldn't be very optimistic. Fingers crossed and eyes on the poll results  Smiley

I doubt that even a simple and harmless poll as this one is going to be accurate. We have a lot of fishy and bad people around and it's easy to manipulate the answers via polls.
Take a look at: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php#5
You can get a pretty nice image of where people are from.

What will people gain from twisting results on such poll? I can't think of a reason for them to do so unless I'm missing something.

524  Other / Off-topic / Which Continent You're From? on: May 13, 2015, 11:01:34 AM
I was posting usually the other day when I noticed the topics I was posting in were receiving very less replies during my day and many replies during my night.
This kept me wondering about the time zones of most people on this forum. While a wild guess would put majority of the people in USA, I would tend to believe Bitcoin has teh same interest in other parts of the world too, hence I created this poll to feed my curiosity.

As the title says. Which continent do you belong to?
You don't have to specify the country of your residence, but if you're inclined to reveal that, post that in your reply.
525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mysterious Payment on: May 13, 2015, 10:11:06 AM
Those payments are indeed mysterious. Because i don't post often my addresses to public i usually do not get them, only time it happened it was on this forum, and when address was posted thru Private Messages. It's weird, as i have full trust in people i give addresses not to post it anywhere and only use it for one time TX. Logical conclusion would be that some bot is parsing even thru PM's on this forum, but that would mean cooperation from administration.

Did anybody figure out how exactly "spammers" (they are not exactly spammers, let's call it more like GreyHat SEO, in the end You have more money:)) got their address? It's impossible for me they've got it from any public place. Just as little side note, gathering addresses from public internet it's really simple so be carefull what You exactly post on forums like this which are connected with YOUR money.

Block chain is a public ledger. You don't need to post your address anywhere to make it 'publicly visible'.

Spammers parse the block chain to gather addresses that have ever received any amount of Bitcoins (non-zero / active addresses).
If your address has ever received any incoming transaction, chances are spammers already have your address.

Btw it seems that Bittrex changed graphs. Smiley I must say that candles are looking much better now.

They changed many things on UI including the graphs, however I liked the old design more.
Graphs were also better in old design and the overall look & feel in new design looks like a downgrade instead of an upgrade.

Yep...  working fine now, thanks for sharing the tweet.

I almost started to panic when it wasn't loading. I have some coins there and I don't want to see another MintPal.

The site is down for me right now. Anyone else?

EDIT:
isup.me also says it is down.

529  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Withdraw/verification on cryptsy on: May 13, 2015, 08:11:25 AM
Ok. I bought BTC for my fiat.

New challenge now - withdraw BTC.

Round 1.
- I do not see in blockchain my withdrawal transaction.

Withdrawal of Bitcoin usually requires email authorization.
Have you clicked on the link you received in email after you requested BTC withdrawal?

530  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did you mine it or buy it? on: May 13, 2015, 05:59:06 AM
1. When you started, did you MINE or did you BUY bitcons?
A: I started in late 2013 and it was too late to mine BTC with GPU at that time and I didn't want to invest in expensive ASIC hardware, so I started mining alt-coins and converting them to Bitcoins. That way you can say I didn't buy them, I didn't even mine them but I traded them.

2. If you are a regular user of bitcoins currently, do you MINE or do you BUY bitcoins?
A: If by 'regular user' you mean someone who still continues to acquire more Bitcoins, then yes I am a regular user. But now I have stopped mining (even alt-coin mining). I acquire Bitcoins by:
   - Paid Signature Campaigns
   - Trading alt-coins for profit

I don't mind the dust at all. All payments are welcome. Free money!  Grin

Before the links to the pizza pictures that laszlo has posted die out, I'll grab the opportunity to put them on Imgur and post them here for everyone's delight:
I'm sure many of the people in this thread are looking at the pictures of this legendary pizza first time.

Sommeone should come up with a funky T-Shirt design with these pictures...   "Bitcoin Pizza" ...  or "Million Dollar Pizza"   Grin
533  Other / New forum software / Re: Can we expect the forum this year? on: May 12, 2015, 07:34:26 AM
I hope the new forum is worth the time and money we're spending on it. Monthly $100k fees is no joke.

Yeah, that's Slickage's $100k monthly fee. The amounts aren't exact, though. I send approximately the correct amount to an intermediate wallet of my own, and then it gets sent to Slickage via Coinbase.

The total cost will probably be around $1.5 million, which is more than I'd hoped, though not entirely unexpected.
534  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Does EVAN DUFFIELD regret instamining DRK/DASH at 100x emission? on: May 12, 2015, 07:05:42 AM
I don't have enough details on how this instamine went because I was not attached to this coin at that moment. So it wouldn't be fair for me to call it a blatant scam.
But I wonder what stopped him from relaunching the coin fairly to make things right - and this was a very big reason to relaunch.

So i'm voting for 3rd option:

It was an accident, but it worked out well for him. No regrets.
535  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: do people make a lot of money farming signature campaigns? on: May 12, 2015, 06:59:21 AM
I heard of people creating multiple accounts just to farm BTC from these campaigns.
So would it be possible to earn 1BTC a month from participating in signature campaigns using multiple accounts?
And how much time (on average) is put into it in order to earn 1BTC a month?

Creating multiple accounts for enrolling in a signature campaign will mostly get you banned. Almost all reputed campaigns only allow one account per user.
So you won't get 1BTC per month, since there is generally an upper cap of how many maximum eligible posts you can make that are paid. (Unless you're having multiple accounts and you go unnoticed by the campaign owner)

How much time does it take? Well, that depends.
For example a campaign pays maximum 300 posts per month, so that's 10 posts a day. So you have to figure out how much time you need to invest to posty 10 'constructive' posts per day. (This is generally good amount of time because to make constructive posts, you need to read he original discussion carefully)

Did Bittrex update it's website? I'm trying to login but the page looks different and I can't login.

well i don't have any problems about bittrex. i can logon to my account smoothly

You have to delete your old cookies to log in... with something like Cookie Controller for Firefox.

Only if you're having problems logging in or facing other issues on site.
I was able to login and perform various tasks without clearing cookies or browser cache.

The UI update sucks though.
538  Economy / Investor-based games / Re: Re: read now! on: May 11, 2015, 03:29:28 AM
hey why this post remove ?

this is very usefull for newbie

Have you even read the post directly above you?

The OP was having multiple accounts on forum and he also ran his own ponzi sites. His list was not truthful.
He maintained the list in his own favor. Someone exposed his actions and OP decided to remove the list. And believe me,  it was in the interest of newbies.
539  Local / India / Re: BTCXIndia Shutting Operation on: May 10, 2015, 08:26:12 AM
Since Unocoin and Coinsecure say they have not been having any issues with their banking partners, I believe BTCXIndia has some othe rissues but they prefer to put the blame on banks.
Otherwise they would have found a way to continue their business just like other exchanges.

But I'm glad that the're at least providing enough time to their customers to withdraw their money and they haven't run away like Mt.Gox
