661  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase Investment fund email? on: April 11, 2015, 04:40:41 AM
I got one of these today. It was sent to my BTC-E email address. (I have my own domain, so I sign up with every service under a different email address.)

I wonder how they got hold of that?

--Tom
Very clever!
This would make the origin of the problem pretty much clear. On the other hand, while BTCe is a bit shady, I cannot explain how the connection to the mails being sent through coinbase servers can be drawn…

I don't have account on BTCe or Coinbase. Still I received the phishing email.
In the email, they're not using my BitcoinTalk forum username, so I'm sure they got my email address from somewhere else. From where, that's beyond my understanding.

They're giving unique deposit address to everyone. They gave me 1MFqqNRtRHKfuejDR1wF8BkkmUaGypXc8L which is different from what someone else has posted earlier in this thread.
This makes it difficut to taint a single address as scam.

662  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Power Consumption Question on: April 09, 2015, 01:12:33 PM
So, basically, the rig would be running at 850 watts, so when these calculators ask for the power input, I just put 850 in and I'm good. So, if you had 2 rigs, same specs, it would be 1700 watts, 3= 2550 watts, etc....?

Yes, the calculator will simply assume that you'll be running the rig 24x7 continuously and will calculate energy usage based on it.

In most cases electricity companies charge you based on kWh - which is charge for running a 1 kW of power for 1 hour.
So lets assume your rig consumes 1000 watts. That's 1 kW. So if you run it for 1 hour, that's 1 kWh.
Now if your electricity charges you 20 cents for 1 kWh, your rig is costing you 20 cents per hour - that's 4.8 dollars per day.

I hope it makes it easier for you.
663  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fingerprint private key on: April 08, 2015, 09:17:15 AM
I burnt my finger on a wood stove... my lappy reader had difficulty reading the print.

Exactly what I was thinking. Some people even lose some fingers or thumb in accidents. I won't risk my Bitcoins with this.
664  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why would DPR hire a Hitman through a bank transfer? on: April 08, 2015, 09:12:41 AM
Huh

Considering the recent revealations in this case (where two law enforcement officers including Force were also found involved in robbing BTC during their investigation of DPR), it is highly possible that these charges were made up. I don't think DPR would ever hire a hitman through a wire transfer.

And even if he had to, he would be smart enough to come up with some fake account. He was running Silk Road after all, so already had access to wide range of fake identity documents.
665  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: how much can you make weekly? on: April 08, 2015, 09:05:04 AM
if you play with 20-30 BTC ... probality is with you.
but, you can't always win so the sum must be blocked on the exchange for 3-4 months for example (to equalize the lost and gains).

OP is talking about faucets, so there is no gambling involved. So there's no question of winning or losing.

@OP:
whatever you earn, I'm sure sure it will not be more than a few dollars.
Instead it is better to just work a day job and buy BTC from fiat.

I just tried to blame myself (feels real good) but looks like I've taken the site down.   Undecided

667  Bitcoin / Press / [2015-04-07] ARS - Bitcoin Foundation is “effectively bankrupt” on: April 07, 2015, 04:41:39 AM
One of the newly-elected board members of the Bitcoin Foundation—the 2.5-year-old organization that was meant to bring order to the famously open-source and freewheeling cryptocurrency—has declared the group "effectively bankrupt."

While the Bitcoin Foundation obviously does not have control over Bitcoin itself, it’s the closest thing to a public face that the community has. Individual memberships start at $25, while corporate memberships start at $1,000 annually. The non-profit’s own tax filings from 2013 show that it ended that year with over $4.7 million in total assets—nearly five times as much as it had at the same time the previous year. It has yet to release financial details for 2014.

668  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Free Profit on Altcoin on: April 06, 2015, 06:24:48 PM
Okay, how about UltraCoin?

On the move but cheap to buy and an easy road to PROFIT.

Be smart, BUY NOW!

What will make the price go up in near future? The developer hasn't posted in official thread in almost a month and the price has gone downhill during last month.

669  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Free Profit on Altcoin on: April 06, 2015, 06:16:02 PM
Apparently you missed the point of this thread too... "Profit on Altcoin" not "Profit on StartCoin". Just so happens Start has been doing well for some us  Kiss

We can move on if that will make the butthurters stop whining.

Quoting your own post:

Here's an easy tip for all you wannabe profiters (although it's obvious to anyone paying attention, so my apologies to you)...

STARTcoin

Buy now.

Hold a few hours.

Decide when you want to take your %% up.

Repeat.

Easy BTCBTC   Kiss

Yeah, OK...   obviously you were not talking about STARTcoin   Roll Eyes

So - hypothetical - it would be possible to bring the Bitcoin network down with vanishing the Blockchain of all devices?

If there were no nodes there would be no access to the blockchain.  You could in theory if only one computer control the chain.
[...]

Yes, even if we have ONE node that has the most recent block chain, we should be good to go.
The problem will be if we have scattered block chain across multiple computers but NO nodes.

Only problem I see is it seems if only one node was up the might be able to control aspects of bitcoin transactions.  I could be wrong on this but I would think there one they could a possibility of attacks.

Absolutely. With reference to a 51% attack that peopel keep talking about, let's call this a 100% attack Cheesy
671  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Has anyone lived off of just trading altcoins? on: April 06, 2015, 12:48:24 PM
I gained lots of profit just by trading altcoins. But also I lost some of them at exchanges due to hacks.

Anyway, I just dont prefer day trade at most coins. The key for altcoin trading is patient and finding a good potential coin. If you really find this kind of coin and buy at cheap prices and wait enough , you can easily multiply your coins to 3-4-5 even 10x.

This is very true.
The key to altcoin trading is finding a potentially good coin, buy in early days at few satoshi price, and then patiently wait for the coin to get popular and gain momentum.

I did the same with DOGED (DogeCoinDark).
I bought some at 2 satoshi (could have bought at 1 satoshi, but I took longer to research and read about it before investing).
Then the coin took off after a few weeks and I sold at 16 satoshi during the pump, making 8x profit. If I had bought at 1 satoshi, I would have made 16x profit.

But the challenge is to find a potentially good coin. If the coin you invest in never takes off, you're risking your investment. And it will happen sometimes. But the key is to win on more coins and lose on less.
672  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Make bitcoin with browser. on: April 06, 2015, 12:19:53 PM
It really depends on how much it pays. I may not sacrifice my browsing experience for very little payment.

Just like people don't want to waste time on Bitcoin faucet sites, because after all that CAPTCHA thing, they get Bitcoins worth pennies.
I use AdBlock regularly to make my browsing intuitive. If I had to see ads again, it better be worth it!

EDIT:
There was a similar service called "Agloco" which shut down few years ago. Very short-lived. Google for more.
673  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: VPN that can be paid in BTC on: April 06, 2015, 12:10:21 PM

cyberghost also good vpn provider, I am using it everytime I need privacy.., Smiley

I have been using their free version for long time. It has some restrictions, but good for daily use.

Recently I received a promotional offer that let me try their paid version for 3 months. I must say I was very happy with the kind of server choices, speed and user experience of the software.

In future if I need to pay for a VPN, I'll definitely go for CyberGhost.

I'm already using their free service, and the speed isn't that fast. Maybe because of high latency? The servers that I'm connected right now is in the Czech Republic, and I'm from the far east.

That could be the case. And IIRC, the free version does not let you choose a server near you. You have to use what they allocate.

The paid version has server choice, plus it also allows torrent data transfer.

If you're too concerned about privacy and encryption, try ProtonMail. It is a new swiss service that provides free account (with limited storage).

ProtonMail ---> ProtonMail : end-to-end encryption
ProtonMail ---> Other mail : one way encryption
Other mail ---> ProtonMail : no encryption

Where you don't have to register your phone number like yahoo mail or gmail.... yet also legitimate and secure

I don't think Gmail forces you to register your phone number.
Yes, it asks for it but you can always press the 'skip' button.

something bothered me,since ive started bitcoin

i think all the transactions are stored in computers, thats the core, right?if that's the core, what if we remove all the core's existence?does this mean all the bitcoins existed will be lost?

If you remove all nodes (I think you mean 'nodes' when you say 'cores' - computers that hold full block chain), Bitcoins will not be lost.
Only block chain will be lost, which contains the data of all Bitcoin transactions carried out till date.

Bitcoins are still safe in that case (that reside in wallet.dat files) but it would be impossible to claim those coins without the block chain.
680  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello Is there any genuine Bitcoin Multiplier ? on: April 06, 2015, 08:02:45 AM
Hello

Is there any genuine Bit coin Multiplier ? Hi like to invest bitcoins in multipliers like 2x, 10x, or 100x ............can any one suggest.......?

If there were any, they would not run a public service for social welfare. They will just keep multiplying their own Bitcoins.

All 'multipliers' you see on internet are just Ponzi schemes, that pay old investors from the funds of new investors.
When new investors stop investing, the game is over and pending deposits aren't repaid back.

In short, they can be safely called SCAM.
