1301  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: British Tax Authority Updates Cryptocurrency Guidelines, Says It Is Not Money on: November 04, 2019, 06:06:31 PM
So far BTC has been treated like foreign currency in UK tax terms. Profits from any foreign currency fluctuations are subject to capital gains taxes just as BTC is.

Only if you sell or are you taxed even if you hold bitcoins which have appreciated in value?

Almost all of the time tax is taken on trust anyway. It would require something pretty radical for them to investigate you.

It seems like a sensible policy regarding mining. Obviously no tax at all would be rather better but at least they're not as stupid or unworldly as other countries who attempted to put VAT on it.

These countries (in the EU and probably within the EEA as a whole) even if they wanted to can thankfully no longer do it since the EU Court of Justice has rules otherwise.
1302  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling cigarettes on: November 04, 2019, 05:16:34 PM
Guys please only comment if you’re interested. To the guy saying that they would only save “a little” on cost, what country sells 20 pack cigarettes for $1.6

You can buy a pack of cigarettes in Ukraine for less than a dollar Smiley Or around a dollar and a half in Belarus. Smuggling significant amounts of cigarettes (>200-800) to the EU is another matter. If you won't charge too much for shipping it's still a very good price to pay if someone lives in a country where cigarettes are expensive.

1303  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: 150 million taxpayers will have to answer this crypto ques on new IRS Tax Form on: November 04, 2019, 02:09:25 PM
If you haven't noticed, all the regulations and KYC are so far doing is slowing down progress by making it harder to do business if it involves cryptocurrencies. I don't see how it's supposed to lead to 'mass adoption'.
1304  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win a Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2!! on: November 04, 2019, 02:00:42 PM
All your old deposit addresses are always valid so you can deposit to as many of them you wish to in a 24 hour period. That means we have to monitor ~40 million addresses. The restriction on creating new deposit addresses was introduced because some idiot programmed a bot to just sit there generating new addresses.

The site could allow the user to create a new address, if at least one deposit has been made to a previously created address. It'd better for your users privacy if they could send bitcoins to different addresses because they wouldn't have to combine UTXO from different sources.

Definitely, you wouldn't want people from around the world to start hunting you down if you win the lottery Smiley

There are thousands of people who own more than that, unless the winner lives in a crime-ridden country, he shouldn't have to worry over someone knowing he owns 20 bitcoins. (but there are reasons other than security to maintain privacy though)
1305  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: 150 million taxpayers will have to answer this crypto ques on new IRS Tax Form on: November 03, 2019, 05:19:22 PM
It's not as rosy as it appears to be, because if you hold a certain amount of crypto for a full year, it's added up to your overall wealth that will be taxed annually, which means that you still pay tax over the coins that you bought. I know that from experience because I'm more or less subject to these tax laws myself as a european citizen.

Are you a German tax resident? I was under the impression that wealth taxes in Germany were against their constitution. I can't find anything about what you're referring too, maybe I'm missing something.
1306  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win a Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2!! on: November 03, 2019, 04:31:01 PM
What is the reasoning with not allowing to deposit to more than two addresses in a 24-hour period?

Also, couldn't the instant fees scale with the number of deposits, the way bustabit and bustadice handle it? Segwit support would be nice, too.

Maison du Bitcoin dalej istnieje, zmienili imię na Coinhouse. Fajne miejsce. Smiley

Tongue

1309  Local / Polski / Re: Tu się witamy on: November 02, 2019, 04:58:10 PM

1310  Economy / Gambling / Re: bustabit – The original crash game on: November 02, 2019, 02:01:43 AM
Yes, bustabit is very conservative when deciding which transactions it allows the user to precredit but that should come with no surprise. And almost everyone else waits for at least 1 confirmation anyway.
1311  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Unique Poker Client Help on: November 02, 2019, 01:33:00 AM
  • an ELO rating system
  • maybe a story mode with quests incorporated in a similar way to the Puzzle Quest
  • gain XP when winning hands/games/ranking up, give bonuses for the XP in the form of character items, pet dragons, whatever
  • dueling between players, betting who wins a game of poker or a game of a coin toss

1312  Other / Meta / Re: Which rank can we trust really? on: November 02, 2019, 12:31:16 AM
This topic used to be pinned in the Newbies section: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=33835.0

You shouldn't even trust a moderator without having a good reason, more than one ended up scamming other forum users.
1313  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: do you think most people reads on the forum?? on: November 01, 2019, 11:41:15 PM
Unless a forum board is adequately moderated, such as the Dev & Tech and Mining boards (although these boards have way less traffic compared to other sections), there are hundreds of people daily looking for excuses to post something with the minimum effort just so they get paid more for participating in pay per post signature campaigns. Bitcoin Discussion and Economics are particularly terrible when it comes to expectations <-> reality mismatch.

In the future you may want to consider posting in Serious Discussion or its child-board Ivory Tower — signatures are disabled there, so whoever posts solely for money has no incentive to venture there: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=250.0
1314  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Fake Security Vulnerability: Ledger Nano X and Ledger Nano S? on: November 01, 2019, 11:12:42 PM
for fun, try to break into your main emails accounts on a fresh computer (ie one thats never logged into that email account before) by clicking "forgot password" link and seeing how far you get. you may be surprised.

Coinbase (? - probably them, IIRC) had a long guide somewhere instructing users how they can setup their gmail account to make it practically impossible for anyone* ever to recover access should a stranger try to hijack someone's account or should the original owner forget the password. Smaller or lesser known email providers might be more susceptible to social engineering attacks. Same goes for registrars and hosting providers if someone's using an email with their own domain name.

*realistically speaking, google may change their policies, their employee(s) can go rogue, etc.

1316  Other / Meta / Re: Impeachment: Is Greg Maxwell the best choice for being a mod in bitcointalk? on: November 01, 2019, 10:38:58 PM
Thank you, people, for being ALMOST calm and reasonable, it was beyond my expectation  Smiley

To be crystal clear:
I won't give any evidence neither support any such evidences to be presented here. It would be very insulting and irritating otherwise. Please forget about rehashing the same argument over and over, thanks again.

Aren't insinuations that someone isn't fit for a job insulting if they aren't backed by anything solid?

Re: AnonyMint - didn't he get banned for derailing threads all the time to the point of everyone's annoyance? In such a case I don't see how theymos would want him as a mod.
1317  Other / Meta / Re: Impeachment: Is Greg Maxwell the best choice for being a mod in bitcointalk? on: November 01, 2019, 11:30:22 AM
How can you expect to be taken seriously when you can't even get to the point? How's that different from trolling?
1318  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: [2019-06-30] Bittrex User Alleges Funds Were Withheld in Recent Lawsuit on: November 01, 2019, 07:38:14 AM
What is the situation with the exchange as i am having my funds in bittrex and i have verified everything what they asked and i cannot find the news what you are talking about here, is this a speculation that they will be selling off or is there any real substance as i cannot find any source for what you are saying.
Even if they shut down they will allow users to withdraw the coins. Undecided

It's speculation but not one without merit. Between blocking US residents from buying certain coins/tokens, blocking US residents altogether and moving moving companies to new jurisdictions all the time, it would be unsurprising. If you're fully verified then withdrawing shouldn't be a problem.
1319  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Are you interested in having a prepaid card? on: November 01, 2019, 06:31:45 AM
Monthly service charge fee   2.00 EUR
Card load fee   0.20%
ATM Withdrawal in the EU/outside the EU   2% min 2.00 EUR / 3% min 5.00 EUR
POS fee in the EU/outside the EU   0.30% / 0.80%

The fees are so high, omg even a fee for POS? Even a bank has never done this to me before.

Where do you see the fees? I can't find them anywhere on their site. If you need to log in, does it say anything about currency conversion fees?

edit: thx, don't know why they have prepaid card fees on a separate page. So in my case I'd usually be paying 2.8-3.3% for PoS fees in total or 4.5-5.5% fees in total when withdrawing through an ATM due to currency conversion fees.
1320  Economy / Gambling / Re: bustabit – The original crash game on: October 31, 2019, 04:23:25 AM
it’s very sad that people playing this game are so unscrupulous, one person asked me in a chat about debt, I looked at the player statistics that he was registered a long time ago and recently lost everything, I added him as a friend, we agreed that he would return the debt in 6 hours, which naturally did not happen. Then in a chat I found out that in order to repay my debt I need to ask a person about it for weeks. The most annoying thing is that my debtor sits and continues to play but gives answers for my requests to repay the debt like “give me a couple of seconds” or “I'm waiting for the deposit to come” . I did not think that gambling people are so unscrupulous.

You've been a forum member here since 2013 and you gave an Internet stranger an uncollateralized loan?
