1421  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what are blockchains? on: January 06, 2023, 08:46:57 AM
My friends don't have much experience in crypto, and I often hear the word blockchain, so I want to ask all of my friends? namely, what is blockchain, its function and how does it work? please help to explain?

Blockchain is a special format of storing data. A special type of database, very good for decentralized and trustless use because, especially if built in the way Bitcoin's blockchain is done, they will not allow modifying data from the past.
The rest of info, especially details on what does Bitcoin's blockchain store and how, will be there in the links already provided by others.
1422  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Guys, what electrum server you run on: January 06, 2023, 08:41:55 AM
But the problem is that when you try to explore an address with many trasctions with mempool explorer, it takes forever...

It has happened only once to me in ~14 months of using it.

I would be more than happy to see somebody installing Fulcrum, tell how it's working and maybe also make a short tutorial.
If nobody does it, I may try that myself in the not-too-far future.
1423  Economy / Collectibles / Re: HAPPY HODL-DAYS: THE 12 DAYS OF CRYPTOMAS on: January 06, 2023, 08:35:11 AM

What...a...huge...list...of...winners...!
It shows much clearer the sheer magnitude of this raffle.

Congrats to the winners and many thanks MJ for the incredible generosity!

1425  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Guys, what electrum server you run on: January 06, 2023, 08:18:16 AM
Need your guys opinions

It always depends what are you using for that electrum server, personal use or public internet.

I've played a little with EPS and I didn't like it, then I went for Electrs (on WSL).
For my personal use it's just perfect and I was able to also install on top of it a block explorer too.

Fulcrum .. I had the same dilemma too (it sounds more a BCH software supporting BTC too than something built for BTC) plus when I've done my setup (and had the time for it) I didn't really see reviews from people using Fulcrum, especially on a Windows PC (with WSL, remember?).
Meanwhile I've also read (but I am not 100% sure) that Fulcrum may be using a couple of hundreds of GB of disk space for its data (I would be happy to be corrected if it's the case), compared to the 36 GB Electrs data is taking me now.

Electrum X I didn't manage to install. Because of some settings of mine and things I've read I was avoiding Docker. Plus this is more an enterprise solution, for publishing "in the wild", which Electrs doesn't offer (hence keeping Electrs lighter).

You may also want to discuss also about Blockstream's fork of Electrs. It's advertised on Electrs Git as a solution for having something like Electrs for the public/internet. It's advertised to be resource hungry, but also very efficient. Plus it'll work with mempool.space, if you want a block explorer too.
Edit: deja initiativa ta a si dat roade (!!), MJ a raspuns pozitiv solicitarii tale.

MJ ceruse doar dovada acelor plati.

Dar te iert, inca e inceputul anului  Grin Grin
1427  Economy / Collectibles / Re: HAPPY HODL-DAYS: THE 12 DAYS OF CRYPTOMAS on: January 05, 2023, 01:23:37 PM
what will today's final Cryptomas present be?

I can't really guess, but the presents until now are already incredibly nice and generous!
1428  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: age 47 is it too late or not to invest in bitcoin.? on: January 05, 2023, 01:20:19 PM
to ask about me, who is old, is it worth investing in bitcoin or not?

Just think like this: 14 years (and a few days) ago there was no bitcoin. Now it worth a lot.
And think farther: do you expect to live more 5-10 years at least? I really think so.
This being said I see no good reason you would not invest in Bitcoin. Of course, make sure you invest only money you afford to lose or at least to keep locked in bitcoin for long. And please invest if you think so, not because of strangers' advises over internet.

Plus, if you can leave it to your children, even better.

Make sure you set up correctly your wallet, hacks, scams and phishing are real. Easiest is to buy a hardware wallet and keep your coins there (and make sure the backup seed is always stored offline in multiple copies).

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5432536

Edit: deja initiativa ta a si dat roade (!!), MJ a raspuns pozitiv solicitarii tale.

It may worth mentioning that cyberterrorist is now shown as banned by the BPIP extension.
Plus, this already got more and better answers than deserved.
1431  Local / Română (Romanian) / Re: Vinde Bitcoin fara KYC: ATM-urile Bitcoin Romania care respecta anonimitatea on: January 05, 2023, 11:08:40 AM

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

While I clearly understand your point, I find it somehow making your live more difficult for not enough of good reasons (of course, you may see my point superficial).
I clearly know that your security is better than mine. But I simply keep my coins on hardware wallet, so I avoid easily most of the possible bad surprises in one step. And the rest - if my passwords get stolen, while it would clearly be a bit unpleasant, it will (by far!) not be the end of the world.
So I went for convenience, knowing hopefully most* of the risks and keep them at a rather low level.

* I don't consider myself knowledgeable enough to claim that I know all of them; doing that would be the first step towards great mistakes.
1435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin, Privacy, Mixers on: January 05, 2023, 10:18:23 AM
Bitcoin Mixer Like sinbad maybe trow dozen for advertising because there new in this space, so they can gather more people to join

Clearly. There are (at least) two types of businesses usually paying big bucks for advertising:
* The newcomers that want to be seen, checked out, attract customers, and your example is very good for that
* The established businesses that want people to see how big and important they are, businesses that want to pretty much be part of every day life. This is what Coca-Cole does at TV, this is how I see ChipMixer here on bitcointalk.

Of course, there are other cases too, like new products (see new phone releases on TV, see new games or coins in the casino or sportsbook portfolio) and others I am sure they exist, but don't really come to my mind now.
However, this is not something specific to mixers and not something specific to bitcointalk. Just something normal for all businesses and for all places that allow advertising.
1436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mark Cuban wants to buy more Bitcoins on: January 05, 2023, 10:11:14 AM
Schiff is just like an old dog like Buffet who don't adopt.

I think that all he's doing is in the name of the show.
All his "bashing" of Bitcoin is actually a great advertising and can help adoption. For "an old dog [..] who don't adopt" he's paying waaay to much attention and spend too much time posting about Bitcoin.
Even more, his son does have bitcoins, pretty convenient, huh?
1437  Economy / Reputation / Re: CHANGE OF USERNAME on: January 05, 2023, 09:46:48 AM
I sent a message to the admins (theymos & Cyrus) a few days ago requesting a username change for a few private reasons we discussed, and I'm glad I got a quick response from Cyrus to make this happen. Igehhh was more than just a username; it was a brand that needed to be safeguarded. I've officially changed the name on all of my Brand documents, both online and offline, and I'd like to use this medium to state that all outstanding bets, legal contracts, Pool and feedback remain valid. I am now officially Igebotz. Thank you theymos & Cyrus

If you must deal with me, please click on the TG link in my bio or send me a PM because there are many fake TG accounts impersonating me.

Happy New Year!

Best regards
Igebotz  Cool

Congrats for such a fast name change!
Is it OK for you if I add you a neutral trust feedback stating the name change?
I think it's better, in case some people miss this topic.
1438  Economy / Services / Re: LoyceV's Avatar for Rent [first 🦊🦊🦊3 YEARS🦊🦊🦊 (198 weeks) rented out] on: January 05, 2023, 09:39:23 AM
My plan had been to wait until 10 minutes before the deadline to make my prediction so I had as much information as possible about the next difficulty adjustment, however...

The deadline for participation is 07.01.2023 at 23.59.59 CEST (current Berlin Time).
The internet tells me that current CEST (Central European Summer Time) is 11:30, but also it isn't summer in the northern hemisphere and so current Berlin time is 10:30.

What is this foul play!?

Maybe 1miau is in Jamaica, forgetting that in Berlin it's winter Cheesy
Or maybe with this unnaturally warm winter in Europe he has forgotten it's still winter  Cheesy

...Just read it as CET. Maybe 1miau will also correct that.
1439  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Store your seed phrase offline on: January 05, 2023, 09:26:34 AM
the safest and most comfortable way to store seed phrases is offline with writing paper that is kept at home, I even wrote several papers

Especially if you are active in Bitcoin circles, especially if you also tell how much bitcoins you have, ... keeping the backup seed at home is not great, since it's the first place a burglar would search for it.
So if you keep it at home, find a way to make it not-really-obvious.
Keeping multiple copies in multiple geographically separated locations becomes a must, especially if you get to amounts that really matter.
1440  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin developer @lukedashjr's wallet was hacked on: January 05, 2023, 09:21:22 AM

I see that franky1 has given you good answers, so I won't get there too.
All I can add is a recommendation to make a new (spin-off) topic about this if you want to continue this debate, since here it's off-topic.

ledger USB device has its own keyboard?? .. show me

It has 2 buttons. A bit unnatural to call it keyboard, but it can be seen so without being awfully wrong, since the Nano S (plus) doesn't need more than that.
