16142  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: USDe - have you checked it out? on: January 26, 2014, 02:44:12 PM
Might I suggest to interested miners out there that you check out the USDe . The USDe is interested in competing with fiat money one day. It shot up in value from around 150 to 450/550 satoshis yesterday and it's only 2 weeks old! The developers are very committed and the community is very involved and always expanding.

People say this has a active community/great devs about every coin. And there's only one coin that will compete with fiat and we all know which that one is.
16143  Other / Off-topic / Re: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose(country)? on: January 26, 2014, 02:39:56 PM

Born and raised in the United States, moving to Florence Italy (Italia !) my true home in the future.

This scene gives me an image of Ezio from Assassin's Creed II jumping around the rooftops collecting feathers and evading guards Tongue

Also the backdrop for Dan Brown's Inferno. I planned to visit once before breaking up with a GF and cancelling the trip. Looks amazing.

I'd love to go here and other places in Italy. I haven't read Inferno yet but have all his others. I know people slag Dan Brown off for not being the greatest of writers based on literary merit, but I just really love his stories and the books are so easy to get into.

Selling New Samsung Note 10.1 for  0.09493 btc or whatever $75 usd is in btc at time of sale. PM ME

Sounds very cheap. How much are they retailing for?

Over £300. I think we know what's going on here  Grin.

OP, can you provide any timestamped pics of the item and are you willing to use a trusted escrow?

That's what I was suspecting ..... sounds like total SCAM to me, not very intelligent one at that.

Seems there's a lot of poor scammers about lately, but then again they're easy to spot; it's the good ones that go largely unnoticed.

So how do you got about spotting a "good" scam? tips please !! Smiley

Well if it's a good scam it will appear legitimate on all fronts so therefore they're hard to spot.
16145  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What's the best way to send Bitcoins? on: January 26, 2014, 02:33:12 PM
Just being tight., I was wondering if there was a way of transferring btc without them taking commission ?

Depends what you want to do with them. You can transfer them from one computer / client to another by just swapping the wallet.dat files.

And yeah, you are being tight, you should include a fee to help the miners and community out.

16147  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Intelligent ways to sell Bitcoins on eBay? on: January 26, 2014, 02:29:20 PM
Ebay are cracking down on Bitcoin selling?
Don't think so, they just started a dedicated Virtual Currency category a few days ago...

http://www.ebay.com/sch/Virtual-Currency-/179023/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=bitcoin

Yeah, was gonna say not any more, but there are intelligent ways of selling on ebay without getting scammed by paypal chargeback scams etc.

You're a dude pretending to be a girl? Because that's what tends to happen with 99% of the users who claim to be women on here.
16149  Other / Off-topic / Re: HSBC imposes restrictions on large cash withdrawals on: January 26, 2014, 02:22:43 PM

This is a big reason that a lot of people in the UK are calling for revolution. Their are loads of protests that take place because of it. We might not be opressed physically or have it as bad as other countries, but our government is as corrupt as hell. Two of our main leaders went to court to DEFEND the banks for paying such big bonuses!

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/0f54735a-25f6-11e3-8ef6-00144feab7de.html

That particular link required a registration of sorts. If you could paste the full text to pastebin or something, that would be of help. Anyway, I've read about the UK. It's a society with big social differences, and the important positions are nearly all handed out to people who've been handed life on a silver plate, born into rich powerful families and then going to exclusive private schools. It seems like a lot of those people are completely detached from real life.

But the problem is, how do you get people to revolt when they do have food on their table and a roof above their head? Isn't this a revolution for intellectuals, for those who understand monetary policies and the banking system?

I mean, how much do the avg. joe know about inflation, and the inner workings of the financial system? And do he care at all?

Sorry, same story, different link: http://metro.co.uk/2013/09/25/taxpayers-foot-legal-bill-as-osborne-takes-on-europe-over-bankers-bonuses-4113431/

You're exactly right about the power being gifted, rather than awarded.

Regarding the food thing, not everyone is that privelaged. We have a massive difference in social classes in terms of opportunity and wealth.

You are probably right about this being more of a revolution for intellectuals, but we're always reading here about how our MPs have been claiming back stupid expenses from our tax money (like getting their moat cleaned).

I'm venting of course, but it's worth looking into further. I don't think the UK will revolt any further than these protests we're seeing, mainly due to the reasons you identified. Every-day people don't care because they have what they need. They are essentially paid-off and made ignorant by the people running the country so they can fly under the radar and live it up on tax-payers money.

They're defending each other (MPs and banks etc.) for the same reason I would defend those that I owed favors to.

They won't have everything they need if benefits are getting cut continually and other sanctions are being imposed. Even those who work can find it hard to survive when the rate or living is rising and the minimum wage isn't. Look at the London Riots that happened a couple of years ago. They brought the city of London to its knees and it spread like wildfire across the country. Imagine what we could do with peaceful protests or if people actually rioted for the right reasons - spending money on needless wars, selling off state-owned business for peanuts and bankers ruining the economy etc. Why is it that HSBC bankers laundered drug money and nobody went to prison, but if you nicked a packet of rice in the riots you got sent down for it? Where's the justice? What would happen if we as a people stopped paying their wages? They only have power because we give it to them willingly.

16150  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you feel about this? on: January 26, 2014, 02:06:49 PM

I can't remember who it was who argued that Apple could pay more to these workers and change their lives, for some reason Gary Vaynerchuk comes to mind, but I don't think that it was him. But then if it is a drastic difference then it can have effects on the economy in those countries. Would be nice though if Apple took the hit on their profits to make the lives of their workers even just a little more comfortable.

We must also realize what looks as bad conditions in our eyes, may not necessarily be bad conditions in another country. The alternative may be no job, and go starving.

Statutory rape, forced marriages and female circumcision might not be necessarily bad in some countries but that doesn't mean we should condone them. If these are normal practises then it's up to that country to make unfair business practises illegal. If you don't pay your employees a decent wage or provide them with safe conditions and working hours etc then you should get fined or your business shut down, and regardless of that western companies and people should refuse to buy or boycott anything from companies that do not meet certain standards. You can't exploit poverty this way. These companies would soon change their practises if this happened.

These type of people are where revolutions usually start. And they should care. There's only so much shit people should take before they stand/rise up. And it's the people that hold the power, not governments, just most people don't realise it, but if they did there would be trouble for the powers that be.

There are 7 outlets in walking distance to me.  Seems expensive, although they dont have any competition.

I wonder what sort of marketing they are going to do.

Seems they don't do any since nobody seems to have heard of it nor even know their local store provides the service.
16154  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: STOP POSTING RESERVED on: January 26, 2014, 01:34:42 PM
Haven't we learnt from history that banning people from saying something Never ever works ? I know it's annoying but now instead of "reserved" people say "interested" or another one word like "cool"

I hated the reserved thing but really who cares, it's part of the free culture of this forum.

Think of it as scolding/shouting at a child. If peoples posts keep getting deleted they'll eventually get the message.

First they cooperate with Latin American drug cartels to launder money, and get fined $1.9 billion dollars.

What makes that figure laughable is that I think that's only a few days money to them.
16157  Other / Off-topic / Re: Amazing photo of BTC being sold on the street in New York! on: January 26, 2014, 01:19:41 PM

I'm aware of that, but what's the joke exactly?

That someone named "hilarious" would be so serious.  Cheesy

ps.
He gets it:

Hey kid, would you like to buy... some bitcoin?

I'm not being serious, but I think one of the requirements of a joke is that it's funny.
16158  Other / Off-topic / Re: How do you feel about this? on: January 26, 2014, 01:17:49 PM
I suppose I think of them about as often as they do about me.

I somehow doubt that's true.

I've been reading more and more about the poor working conditions of some of Apple's outsourced manufacturing plants. My question is, what are your thoughts?

I'm writing this from an iPad please bear in mind, so I'm not taking any high ground.

Is it enough for you to think about changing your device in future?

See this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2092277/Apple-Poor-working-conditions-inside-Chinese-factories-making-iPads.html

(Yes, it's the daily mail)

Well, you want cheap devices, do you not. Can you imagine what would happen if all workes had a 50% raise in their wage? Correct, your devices would be more expensive as well.

iPhones and iPads aren't exactly cheap.
