John Stephenson, portfolio manager at First Asset Investment Management, says that Bitcoin's price is driven by more than rational fundamentals, despite recent acceptance by some. Every time a new vendor comes on, that's positive for Bitcoin," says Stephenson. But, the reality is this is just a total mania; there is absolutely nothing behind this. It's never going to be a mainstream currency," says Stephenson. If you go to Cabo Kabul and you need to take a taxi and you give someone a $10 US bill, they know exactly what that is. You give them a Canadian dollar bill with Gene Wilder on it, they don't have a clue what that is. And, ultimately greater acceptance is what's necessary to calm volatility. "Financial expert" *Yawns* . Good job to the host putting this fool down. That's because we lack one, recognizable world currency. I live in Europe and haven't seen all the bills in circulation. If I suddenly got paid in hungarian Forint I wouldn't know its price, it would just be a strange piece of paper. There is no such thing with bitcoin, as it can be, and already is advertised. Are the canadian bills advertised? Can a guy in Kabul turn on the news and hear "Pay for your expenses with canadian $, the money of the future?" He who calls himself an expert should know that this is not a good point. It's early days for Bitcoin so I'm sure it'll only be a matter of time before there's taxis in Kabul and in other places that will be happy to take Bitcoin.

I think that is why. It takes so long and it's so unlikely to actually get money out of gox that nobody wants to sell on there with intent to withdraw. The sales made on gox are only those actively trading. Nobody wants to waste their time trying to withdraw from gox so I think this is what potentially inflates their price.
I would've thought this would've made the coins on there cheaper. No idea why or who buys from gox anymore.

How does this work
How does what work? Loans/lending? Bitcoin? This forum?

Is there an app yet for smartphones where you can transfer bitcoins from one individual to another by scanning their QR code when displayed on the other person's phone? Or at some point at a retailer (perhaps one day like Starbucks)?
You can do that on the blockchain.info app. I'm sure there are others too.

Not good at all, but unfortunately hard to find a manufacturer that doesn't do this. People like to think they don't support this sort of thing but sure most people would be more opposed to prices going up to allow fair wages without hurting profit margins.
There's an alternative coming in the mobile phone industry, called PhoneBlocks. There are some good vids on youtube explaining it. Essentially, it's a phone with customisable/replaceable parts. Must be better for the environment too. Wasn't that just a concept and not an actual workable idea? It's great as an idea, but I'm not sure how workable or how easy it is to implement. Nope, Motorola have teamed up to start making it http://m.ibtimes.com/phonebloks-motorola-partners-3d-systems-modular-smartphone-future-project-ara-1485168I'm still sceptical this will work out, and if it does it won't work anywhere near as well or look like how it's presented in that video.

On my end I do have problems trying to reply I get the message that you posted less than 360 seconds ago
You have to wait 6 minutes before each post. Log-ins and attempted posts reset the timer. The time goes down the more activity you get. Mine is under 28 seconds now.

So I guess the whole send them to me for safe keeping is out?
If your activity level was 100+ i'd consider it LOL! 1JiXABxQWjuARiAnKNWJpfEQ2RSvZq4Zxd My activity level 112, thank you. Ah, so that's how you got all those coins?

Sweet. That's pretty much the way the traditional debit/atm cards work in asia. Hmmm, I thought the guy was going to get run down by one of the cars.
Haha me too. He probably got hit on the way out . This stuff seriously needs mass producing, it looks just like what you'd do with a debit card and people would love that especially if you didn't have any third party getting in the way.
I don't think users will even need third parties; that's the beauty of Bitcoin. I'm sure it'll be pretty easy to create your own cards etc.

What Bitcoins is she showing off exactly?
This is in the "Off-topic" section, it is a joke. I'm aware of that, but what's the joke exactly?

Well to be safe, i'll install the one listed at the top of this forum....
News: Bitcoin 0.8.6 is now available. Download.
It's going to take a while, but I guess this is safest and I can backup wallet.dat etc just like my other coins!
What if someone put up a malicious link on this forum? Is downloading the whole blockchain a problem? If it is I'd go for another wallet or set up one on blockchain.info.

really nice, but i think it still takes too long time. half the time for paying would be nice. possible?
Seriously? It took about 30 seconds. It took him longer to cross the street. And it's probably quicker than using chip & pin.

I have been thinking, I will stop using all US brand of electronic, service and pc. Such as Apple, Cisco, Facebook, Microsoft, and so on.
And start using more Chinese brands such as Lenovo, Huawei, Asus, Acer, and other Japanese and Korean brands.
I will also use more open source softwares, and tor. Also stop using Google and Gmail. And start using more startpage.com and other email providers which are not in the US.
Any other ideas?
Fly a plane into the White House? Now only if we can get the rest of humanity to boycott America we should be alright .

Ah, will look at that one.
I've had MultiBit recommended, is that considered safe? I run Mac OS.
Wallets are generally only as safe as you are to be honest.

I can tell you are completely wrong about referrals, if you know how to do your marketing it can be very profitable...
Most people don't know how though, so I guess you could be right for most people.
But it depends what you advertise too, MyBitcoinJob screamed scam...lol
How much have you earnt? And why don't you share your secret on how to make money via referrals then?

Hi,
I'm very new to Crypto and have been playing around with the alt coins.
I've made some nice profits on some of my dealings so far, at the moment my profits in Bitcoins are stored on Cryptsy. I'm holding quite some profits also in alts such as DOGE and MOON.
Is this safe to store bitcoins on Cryptsy? If not, should I just download a standard bitcoin wallet as i've heard it needs 15GB download? Is there something else I can do to store my Bitcoins safely?
Thank you!
Cfx.
It's not ideal to store them at exchanges. If you download a Bitcoin wallet like Electrum that doesn't download the blockchain, or you can store them online on blockchain.info which is pretty secure if you set up all the security features. You can also store them on paper wallets or just the wallet.dat files.

I joined MyBitCoinJob a few days ago. The first job was to promote the affiliate link, which I did. 0.01 BTC per hit. The site says that I have 29 BTC today. The payout page is blocked by a survey pop-up that never clears. emails to admin@mybitcoinjob.com, support@mybitcoinjob.com, payouts@mybitcoinjob.com get returned. I am waiting on a reply from the privacy company that masks the Whois information at ICANN. Has anybody else had success or failure with this site? Just buy those Bitcoin amounts alone you can tell this isn't legit. Don't waste your time on faucets or referrals or filling out surveys etc. Even if they're genuine all you'll get is dust.

The majority of newbs moaned at having to make one post and wait four hours, so I reckon they'll make a lot of threads or emails to the admins about this newb test. The real point of the test is to remove plausible deniability for concern trolls so they can be summarily banned. It takes away one technique from the forum disruption toolkit. I think an exam is maybe a stretch, but I think we should revert to locking newbs to the newbie area or maybe the alt coin section since that's where most of them seem to want to go. Perhaps there could be a warning system in place or something for people who continually post in the wrong section or post crap or questions that have been asked hundreds of times. Maybe a three strikes and you're out rule or confine people to the newbie area as a punishment until they've learnt their lesson . Hopefully that should cut down on all the needless crap as the newb situation is only gonna get worse as Bitcoin grows. I also suggested this in another thread: Newbie section was pretty useful, but I think that it was full of the same "Hi, I'm just writing my obligatory first post. Here is another sentence." type posts with the occasional "Why can't I reply on the other boards?" posts haha.
I guess we will see what the effects of removing that and newbie jail will do for the boards. If the moderators are sharp (with the help of the community) then any crap can be dealt with before it becomes a problem.
If think there would've been an easier solution to that. As soon as you clicked to write a new post/ start a thread a few bulletpoint reminders come up before you're allowed to post: - You only need to make one post and browse for four hours
- You do not need to start a new thread
- Do not start a new thread just to say hi
- Do not spam your referral links anywhere, put them in your signature
- Don't post about alt coins here
- blah blah blah etc etc etc.
Or just a friendly reminder for you to read the newbie readme where all this info could be found. I think that would've cut down half the threads in there.
