16241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How much is too much? (premine) on: January 24, 2014, 11:27:45 PM
Anything greater than zero is too much.

I could not agree more. But brings me back to the no one supports the ones without haha

Why would nobody support a coin without a premine? People should refuse to mine or use a coin that was.

Damn near every coin that comes out is a scam, even if it has no pre-mine.

They are basically trying to scam people into putting money into a totally worthless wet paper bag for attackers to steal.

These coins only serve one purpose: To make their devs a bit of cash. People need to stop mining crap and they'll soon disappear.
16242  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: how do you buy/sell in person? on: January 24, 2014, 11:25:12 PM

I have some BTC and looking to sell in person as the exchanges are so slow.  I'm asking people who have done this before - how do you do it?  I might do localbitcoins.com or advertise on this board.  But how do you arrange the logistics after you agree on a price?  You meet, and one person has cash, but how can you handle the transaction?  I was thinking I could go online on my phone and send him the BTC while we're meeting, he can confirm I sent it, and then he'll hand me the cash.  I guess the only weak spot is that after I send it he could just walk away and not give me the cash?  Anyone have advice?  thanks

Get the cash first before you send him the coins. Just meet in a public place like a coffeeshop, show him you have the coins on your phone, ask to count the money then send the coins. You can stay until the confirmations then both leave when you're both happy.

You can also sell your BTC on the forums here. Just use a trusted escrow agent.
16243  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Uk verification ? on: January 24, 2014, 11:22:32 PM
Uk verification...

Hi there I'm quite new to bitcoin. So I wanted to ask you guys if the uk verification process is safe? Websites like bitbargain or mtgox requires to do it. They're asking you to send photo ID, then pic of you holding your id.... Stinks for me. Has anyone done it? Did u have any problems?

What stinks about it? It's safe if that's what you mean. If you're wanting to just buy Bitcoin I'd suggest using Bittylicious and avoid mt.gox at all costs.
16244  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Hello , i want buy 0.112 BTC with paypal (verified) on: January 24, 2014, 11:19:55 PM
I'd advise against using Paypal for transactions on here. Regardless of being verified or not the sender can easily chargeback. Can you not just use a direct bank transfer instead?

16248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you send Bitcoin from an iPhone? on: January 24, 2014, 11:06:13 PM
The Blockchain.info app works great on the iPhone, even without jailbreaking it. I made a payment to someone today, and he received it nearly instantaneously.

No problem.

Did you download the app ages ago before Apple removed the previous version? What can't you do with the latest blockchain.info app that you could on the other?
16249  Other / Politics & Society / Re: I've been published in the Guardian, defending sex work. on: January 24, 2014, 11:03:44 PM

I just want to say that you seem like a genuine and compassionate person. You are certainly articulate. Unfortunately I would not, personally, benefit from or enjoy the services that you provide. But if I did you would be the woman that I went to.

Why is it, do you think, that there is a market for men requiring such services - but not a market for women requiring the same ? Or is there ? Is it to do with trust - and the different levels of trust between the sexes ? Or don't women harbour the same desires ?

Anyhow - all the best - and I for one hope you are able to continue in your work for as long as you are able or see fit, unencumbered by anyones prejudice.

I think men are generally just far more perverted than women. Why? I have no idea but maybe Freud did haha.

This is an annoying but necessary feature I guess. I want to get out of here and into the other boards! Cheesy

You already can. The newbie restrictions were lifted days ago.

So where's this fleshlight fundraiser? I've been working out especially lol.

I'm not quite sure. My offer was still standing, but we haven't gotten any additional donations with committed amounts. The fleshlight campaign may be dead in the water, I'm afraid.

I doubt you'll get any other donations, but maybe Monica is willing to throw some Sexcoins in the pot? I'd suggest starting a new kitty thread but I'm still sceptical if many people would chip in. If Guybrush bottles it I'll probably do it if I can stick a sock on my schlong haha. Or maybe a giant Bitcoin logo?  Grin I'm just trying to weigh up in my mind if it's worth it for £25 of Bitcoin  Grin
16252  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: List of cpus coins on: January 24, 2014, 10:30:31 PM
do not mine Alternate cryptocurrencies

Why not? Most of them are crap but you can make a bit of money by trading them for BTC or another coin.
16253  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: blockchain question on: January 24, 2014, 10:29:15 PM
I've been mining Dogecoin since yesterday on the pool https://doge.hashfaster.com/. Today I cashed out my earnings directly to my deposit address on Coinex. Here is the block chain address for my transaction:

http://dogechain.info/address/DMbv2Z4QA9X9BskE5RHYkYCWcHj8fHB82y

This has been about 2 hours ago and still no notification of it on Coinex. Their contact support form isn't working so I can't ask them about it. My money has disappeared into a black hole. Is there some way I can tell from the blockchain how many confirmations this transaction has received thus far?

Is doge any good

Other then it's fun factor and huge following of meme-lovers there seems to be nothing that warrants it's popularity.

That's exactly it. It seems all a coin needs is a gimmick and people latch on to it. I don't see why they can't just latch onto BTC instead.
16254  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bittylicious - UK Bitcoins using Bank Transfers on: January 24, 2014, 10:21:26 PM
There's no reason for it to be more expensive to use PingIt, but there are fewer sellers offering this service so there's less competition. This usually makes the price a bit higher.

Regarding the lack of a mobile phone number for PingIt, you're absolutely right. In the future, we won't be trusting sellers to add this detail and will require that they request activation for each offer. I assumed they'd set the offers up correctly before making them live but clearly it's better to manually validate each offer.

You're right that more documentation is needed. We are adding it when we can, but there are a few gaps to fill in, no doubt. I'm glad all in all you like the service though!

I recommend it to everybody I meet who asks where to buy Bitcoins and they haven't had any problems and some of them were very wary about buying coins and bank-transfers etc. Do you have any plans to add any more coins?
16255  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: List of cpus coins on: January 24, 2014, 10:17:07 PM
I'd like to throw some cpus at mining,

From my reading here, I figured out that XPM, QRK, FRC and DTC were appropriate ? Could someone give me some insights, any other one and what are their chances ?

16256  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using Bitcoin in Burger King... on: January 24, 2014, 10:09:51 PM

I think I've got a fair grasp on the basic theory of Bitcoin.

But so far, it appears to me that Bitcoin is only suitable for use where a vendor can wait for payment to validated - tens of minutes - before delivering the goods that were purchased.

So, per my topic title, you couldn't go into Burger King (or your favorite fast food joint or any other meat-space store), whip out your smartphone, shoot some bitcoin at the cash register, and they let you walk out with your burger and fries.   Or your grocery store, and they let you walk out with $200 worth of groceries.

Is that correct?   Would anyone be interested in discussing a BIP or altcoin that makes that possible?

Thanks

Hi all,

I'm brand new here and have been having a hard time trying to find out how to post anything also.  Even here in the beginner forum it appears that I can only REPLY but not make a new post.  Am I missing something here?  I pm'ed the mod but got no response.  Thanks for your help.

You should be able to make new topics. It's on the top right hand side first option: New Topic  |  Post new poll  |  Mark Read  |

Make sure to search though first as there's a good chance your question has already been answered.
16260  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2014-01-24 NYTimes - "Bitcoin Is Not Yet Ready for the Real World" on: January 24, 2014, 09:52:41 PM
I agree that Bitcoin is not yet ready for the Real World. But my argument is that if the people who should have basic knowledge of Bitcoin (such as the author) are still so woefully misinformed, then Bitcoin still has a long way to go.

I think it's more the other way round: The real world isn't ready for Bitcoin  Grin.
