16201  Economy / Speculation / Re: What if MT Gox goes under? on: January 25, 2014, 12:55:38 PM
There's a lot of talk going around about Gox facing a shutdown in the forseeable future. While I don't think this is very likely, there has been a sharp decline in its use and effectiveness as an exchange in recent months. If it were to ever 'go under' what effect would that have on the market?

If Bitcoins are lost, does that mean they skyrocket, or does fear and the bad press on what was once BTC's strongest and most influential exchange drop the price?

Thoughts?

People need to stop using gox altogether. No idea how it's even still going.
16202  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Bittylicious - UK Bitcoins using Bank Transfers on: January 25, 2014, 12:52:51 PM

Hey,

Just wondering is it possible, instead of sending an online bank transfer. Could I go to a local bank and cash deposit the money into your account? Just wondering as my Bank doesnt support faster payments which is annoying. However the cash deposit method is instant. It would be an extremley helpful way of purchasing BTC.

Thanks.

Can you not just use Pingit? Or do none of your friends or family have a account with Faster Payments? If not, you can always try buy some coins from the marketplace here. Just use a trusted escrow.
16203  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: MakeBTC.org Pyramid Scheme on: January 25, 2014, 12:46:04 PM
Has anyone made a profit or broke even yet? If not, when will you?

Ki$$, who was the first investor, put in 0.3BTC. He is now taking out 1BTC on each bank, has done for a while now, so he is well into profit.

How do you know Ki$$ isn't a sockpuppet account of the operator? This is how they usually work.

I think now is too late to invest or you have to go big like 3-5Btc to make profit . I found this page on first day they started but haven't invested because I was affraid this is a scam  Angry. Now is really hard to look   Shocked on profits made by first days depositors even the smallest one.  Cry

You're wise to stay away from all pyramids really.
16204  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is a bubble - Nobel Laureate in Economics on: January 25, 2014, 12:41:20 PM
Obama is a Nobel Laureate and this is a man who hates liberty and peace. So I would not trust Nobel Laureates!

I think some Nobel Prizes hold more weight than others, but obviously giving a Nobel Peace Prize to a mass murderer is some kind of joke, or perhaps they were trying to make an ironic statement. Or maybe like most awards they mean very little in the real world. Let's measure weight by merit and actions, not awards on somebodies mantelpiece.
16205  Economy / Economics / Re: Shiller calls bitcoin an obvious bubble on: January 25, 2014, 12:38:18 PM
People are always saying that it's a bubble but they never go into details on why it is as they do with so many other things, until they do and actually give some proof then they're not worth paying attention to.

People just want to slag Bitcoin off and that's the best they can come up with.  Just because something happens to go through bubbles doesn't mean it should be avoided like the plague. I don't see why bubbles are necessarily bad. I think a few bubbles and volatility is a naturally occurring event and is to be expected with such a new idea, but it'll probably settle down eventually anyway.
16206  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Boom Festival 2014 now accepting bitcoins! on: January 25, 2014, 12:34:36 PM

Looks like quite a cool festival, but not really my sort of music. Is there a line0up anywhere on that site?

16207  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hi Just looking for advise about Block chain wallets on: January 25, 2014, 12:32:21 PM
Hi Just looking for advise about Block chain wallets.
I done some reading about getting a block chain wallet it seems to look good but i want to see if i need this or should i go for something that more simple
any advise would be helpful on how the block chain wallet works would be great  Smiley

An online blockchain.info wallet? They're about as simple as you'll get. Make sure you set up all the security features - 2 factor auth and a second password etc.
16208  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB $60 worth of bitcoin on: January 25, 2014, 12:29:04 PM
I need to know the best way to buy $60 worth of bitcoins where I would get the itcoins directly to my wallet instantly.

Can I buy bitcoins with visa gift card? Either with business or peer?

How long does it take if I sold items to get bitcoins into wallet?

As long as you can find somebody to sell you them for Visa giftcard then sure. Bitcoins are pretty much received instantly, but you'll need to wait for full confirmations before you can spend them.

Some HSBC customers have been prevented from withdrawing large amounts of cash because they could not provide evidence of why they wanted it, the BBC has learnt.

That is why we need bitcoin

4000£ a large withdrawal lol, it isn't even enough to buy a proper oled tv  Cheesy

Wtf, why do you need to tell your bank what you want to spend your OWN MONEY on? If they'd've asked me I'd've just told them "your mum" Grin. And people shouldn't be banking with HSBC anyway.
16211  Other / Off-topic / Re: What should I have to eat? on: January 25, 2014, 12:18:30 PM
Just eating the microwaved leftovers of lastnights kebab and washing it down with coffee. Glorious.

Meh, the life time of a kebab is a 20 minute window, after that it is a lost cause IMO.

Clearly you've never microwaved one before. It's like gloriously reanimating it from the dead.

I don't trust microwave cooking. Little too witchcrafty for my liking. Kebabs are the be eat on arrival, not taken in and given a warm room for the night.

I used to be a fan of eating Pizza Hut pizza cold the next day, but I have since started warming the remaining slices up in the oven. Bloody delish.

Well it's the same principle as kebab/pizza in the microwave, only it takes 30 seconds. It's not voodoo, but science. But yeah, probably giving me stomach cancer and slowly cooking my insides haha.
16212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Video: We made Bitcoin this easy to use. on: January 25, 2014, 12:16:03 PM

I don't thin Bitcoins will get rid of credit

Yes - this is a good point. Lets assume BTC was the primary global currency. People are still going to wish to purchase that for which they don't currently have enough BTC - so they are going to need credit.

And if they need credit they will be charged for that credit in some fashion by the creditor (ie. interest payments). Present day fractional reserve banking extends credit and has got us into this mess that BTC is to help us overcome.

But over time, how would BTC avoid creating credit and debt ?

I don't think BTC will get rid of credit/debt. There will always be debt because there will always be greed and/or people willing to get themselves into debt. Debt is a great way of getting money out of people who have none.
16213  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you send Bitcoin from an iPhone? on: January 25, 2014, 12:10:33 PM
The Blockchain.info app works great on the iPhone, even without jailbreaking it. I made a payment to someone today, and he received it nearly instantaneously.

No problem.

Did you download the app ages ago before Apple removed the previous version? What can't you do with the latest blockchain.info app that you could on the other?

No idea what everyone is talking about. The one in the app store is the one I currently have. It sends, receives, shows transactions, scans QR codes, imports paper wallets, etc.

Works for me.

Maybe they're talking about a different app. I know Apple did remove one but it wasn't blockchain.info, but maybe you have an older version to the one that is on the current store. How long ago did you download it?
16214  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Overview of Signature-Ad Campaigns on: January 25, 2014, 12:06:25 PM
These signatures could look a lot better. They are a bit too wide and usually don't do the best job at representing the websites.

Here are a few designs I made. Mostly examples, for example for http://pokerking.com (wasn't commissioned, just picked a random page):

What do you guys think?

Yeah, but you can't have images in your signatures (unless they can somehow be  elaborately made with bbcode).

I'm gonna take a wild stab in the dark here but I'm guessing he lost a bit of BTC  Grin.

He had bitcoins worth "100 million", but lost them when his laptop and external hard drives was stolen.

I don't think so.

Yeah, I don't think so either. I'm always sceptical when these people appear in the media now and again claiming to have lost millions in Bitcoins cos their dog ate their harddrive or whatever. Just seems like attention seeking fantasists to me.
16217  Economy / Goods / Re: Now accepting bitcoin for items on my ebay site! on: January 25, 2014, 11:57:25 AM
I'll take a look at your page. I really hope eBay will start accepting bitcoin in the near future.

I'm sure they will. I think they announced that they're officially allowing them to be listed sometime in February I think. I don't know whether that means you'll be able to pay for things in Bitcoin though. I doubt it.

Shiller’s position is understandable, since he was awarded the 2013 Nobel Prize in Economics for his work on trend-spotting in asset markets. Shiller also examined the volatility of stock prices and their correlation with dividends.

We'll see how good his trend-spotting turns out to be within a few years time  Grin.
16220  Economy / Goods / Re: Now accepting bitcoin for items on my ebay site! on: January 25, 2014, 11:47:47 AM
Come have a look.  I try to put up new stuff every so often.  Usually adidas or nike sportswear.  We can discuss payment and escrow if needed.  Link to my store below.  Thank you for your interest!

http://www.ebay.com/usr/adwhite1121

Isn't this against eBay TOS?

Well you might get your listings removed for mentioning or accepting Bitcoin, but his listings don't seem to so I reckon he'll be alright.
