Yeah its seems a bit nuts that i can not post in most places. How long until I am? Is it 10 posts? Where can I post up until then? Just here?

Do I have to have a certain number of characters in each post like someone suggested. How many?

Read the newbie readme stickied in this forum.
16742  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it better to keep your coins on an exchange or in your local wallet on: January 19, 2014, 09:24:34 PM
I only have a few k of several alt coins and i've missed out on a couple of possibly profitable trades because of the time it''s taken to send coins to cryptsy (doge took nearly 12 hours and didn't appear for about 200+ confirms recently although a few days ago deposits were only taking 6 or 7 confirms. So i'm wondering how many coins to people keep in their exchange accounts that they consider optimum in case of loss by them vs ease of trading?

It's always better to keep them yourself, but this depends on your circumstances if you want to keep them at cryptsy for ease of use. If the website goes down or is hacked there's a good chance you've lost them.
16743  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How does Escrow work for physical items? on: January 19, 2014, 09:21:51 PM
I've used escrow on this forum before for trading securities (friedcat shares), but how does escrow work for buying/selling physical items?

Does the seller mail the item to the escrow while the buyer pays to the escrow? And then the escrow is responsible for mailing the item to the buyer?

Also haven't been active in a while. Any ideas who are the most popular escrows these days?

Thanks.

The buyer sends the money to the escrower then seller sends the item to the buyer. When the buyer has received the item he tells the escrower and he releases the funds. Make sure to send the item via signed-for delivery service in case of disputes.

One hundred billion dollars.

16745  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: when can i change my avatar? on: January 19, 2014, 09:09:22 PM
never, why do so much users ask about this  Huh

I think I answered this question around 10 times at least..

it's due to a hack attack on the forum and now no one can change their avatar, if you have none you will have none in the future
if you have 1 you're stuck with it Smiley

Lol there are a bunch of questions that would make for a good FAQ section, but you can bet that 10% at most of new users will read it Tongue

Although weirdly enough there's no y can't I change my avitar? even though it's Whiskers (the guy who compiled the FAQ) pet peeve.
16746  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How come I can't post?? on: January 19, 2014, 09:06:24 PM
So I have to write 5 posts before I can write somewhere, this is ridiculous.  How can I think of five things to post when I can't actually post on most of the board?  Should I write some poetry?  Something to amuse you lot?

Also I kept getting this on my very first post:
"The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago. Please try again later."
How can I have posted within the last 6 minutes if I've never posted?

You need one post. And log-ins and attempted posts count which reset the timer.
16747  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Here's how you ensure Bitcoin succeeds: on: January 19, 2014, 09:04:31 PM
For small amounts, I much prefer to use the email function on blockchain.info.  I think Coinbase has something similar.  Much faster, easier, and more user-friendly than paper wallets.

What's this email function all about?

16749  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I achieve my goal of owning 10BTC in 2014 on: January 19, 2014, 08:30:46 PM
I would suggest buying some NXT.  It is the most innovative crypto-currency on the market.  Some argue that it is actually more innovative than bit coin

Some will argue that it's not as well  Grin.
16750  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Hello, Newbs here on: January 19, 2014, 08:29:27 PM
Hi everyone, i'm newbie too, can someone explain why my messages are sticked to 14??

Your activity is 14, you have 34 posts (check your profile).

Your activity can go up a maximum of 14 for every two weeks or so (somebody can correct this if I am wrong) provided that you log in and post on the forums.

Ok thanks, but you mean that i have to wait 2 weeks before removing the 260seconds post limit? It's very annoying...

It's 360 seconds. The time limit goes down the more activity you get.

The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is updated every 30 minutes.
16751  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Your opinion on the referral system on http://bitcoinpyramid.com on: January 19, 2014, 08:27:39 PM
Hey guys,

just wondering if anyone of you has already experience with that site:
http://bitcoinpyramid.com

They claim you are paid in BTC if:
- you add referals
- or deposit BTC

As far as I understand they earn money via ads and give part of that to random members, you get more if you have deposited some BTC with them and if you have more referrals.

Depositing BTC with them seems a bit shady to me but if they make the payout from part of their ad earnings it might be fine.

What do you think? Any help will be appreciated Wink

Any pyramid schemes are dodgy in my opinion. I'd stay away and not waste your time with pyramids and also most referral links.

16753  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Litecoin Mining - is it profitable? on: January 19, 2014, 08:19:18 PM
don't listen to these cats...mining litecoin is still profitable.  unless you live in Australia and pay out the ass for power.  however, I expect it will rise in the future so even if not profitable at this very moment...holding the coins and waiting for it to take off again will still net you profits in the long run

Is it profitable to mine on a iphone?  Roll Eyes

16756  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is it safe to purchase items from eBay with bitcoin directly? on: January 19, 2014, 08:02:37 PM
I am interested in buying an item from an ebay seller, who says in description that he also accepts X amount of bitcoin. If I send the bitcoin (instead of just paying with fiat via PayPal), what's stopping him saying I didn't pay and not sending the item?

If I take screenshots of every step of the BTC transaction, will this hold up if a pay dispute occurs? Is there any way of doing this without getting scammed?

Also I assume the receiving address he sent me via ebay PM is new, as it does not show up after a search in blockchain. He is asking for me to send a small amount, then to send the full amount once he confirms the smaller amount has been received.

Any thoughts?

As others have said it's very likely you'll be scammed here. Direct him over to this forum and tell him you'll do the deal providing he uses a trusted escrow.

I don't want to look like a time/money lurker, begger or whatsover but I were wondering if a memeber kind as you are would loan me 0.01 for 1-2 days. Thanks for reading and congratulations to be one of the most high quality posters of the forum.

hmm.. scam?

If this guy is only trying to scam for $1, then I have no idea...

What do you need it for?
16758  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Craptsy... on: January 19, 2014, 07:51:19 PM

16759  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: when can i change my avatar? on: January 19, 2014, 07:48:13 PM
I dont know, but maybe the main thread topic (README) has something to say about this.

Nope, they were disabled due to a hack. There's no estimate when they'll be back.
16760  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why can't I send PMs? on: January 19, 2014, 07:47:14 PM
Hi all,

just got a short question: Why can't I send PMs to other members? I am registered now since a few days on bitcointalk. Do I have to do something special to be able to do that?

Thanks for your answers Smiley
