16481  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-01-21] eBay / PayPal to accept Bitcoin on: January 22, 2014, 05:37:39 PM
They need to sort the Paypal problem out first, because until they stop scammers from abusing their system this is still pointless.
16482  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using Bitcoin in Burger King... on: January 22, 2014, 05:32:38 PM
You CAN go in Burger King and buy with btc.....I did it today.

Download the Gyft app onto your phone.  You can buy a burger king gift card that is on your phone, in 15 seconds. (no confirms needed).  Works at any burger king.  They also have a ton of other places.

Thanks @ Sportsclips!  Useful to know.

But I still wonder if there couldn't be something more "generic" - effectively a digital debit card system for instant purchases anywhere.

Maybe I would have to sacrifice anonymity (to the vendor) for the sake of convenience in quick daily transactions, since they would effectively be giving me credit for a short period.

There is this: https://bitplastic.com/

I think the start up cost is very high, like 0.25 btc, it doesn't need any personal information though, if I remember correctly.

Wouldn’t it be easier/cheaper to just have some sort of password protected paper/card wallet or whatever? One of the main selling points about Bitcoin is we don't need banks for stuff like this anymore.
16483  Other / Meta / Re: Is it possible to change nickname? Or just displayed nickname? on: January 22, 2014, 05:28:22 PM
Well, as in the title, my question is simple.

I lost my main account some time ago, when the forum got hacked (the time with the cool animation): on the days after that, it was not possible to register again. So i found this account, that was older than my other one.
I really don't like the name, but i neither want to go back to noob jail for the third time. Plus, it's bound to my past in some way. It would be cool if i can change it.

So, is there a way i can change my nickname?
Thanks in advance.

I think the only way to change your name is to be a donator and that'll cost you about 50BTC I think. Maybe you can get your old account back though. How did you lose access to it exactly?
16484  Other / Off-topic / Re: Navy helps fund 3D printing of buildings on: January 22, 2014, 05:20:36 PM
what year that will be real ??! not soon plus there are/will be other alternatives to concrete in future.

Not any time soon: "Partially funded by the Office of Naval Research and the National Science Foundation Countour Crafting is trying to develop 3D printed buildings using concrete."

Key words 'is trying to'. Just like there are loads of people trying to find the cure for cancers most probably.

16485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How secure is an encrypted wallet? on: January 22, 2014, 05:16:24 PM
Hi, How secure is an encrypted wallet?

It's only as secure as you are. If you have a key-logger you’re fucked no matter how long or strong your passwords are.
16486  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people think income tax is ok? on: January 22, 2014, 05:08:47 PM
Why don't you not pay any taxes and just pay for the services you use. Put your money where your mouth and ideals are and report back. Let's see how much money you have left at the end of the month then.

By all means, I'd love to - but I also don't want to go to prison for tax evasion.

And if we got rid of the government and the services they provide, then you'd be forced to pay top price for second rate services, because most people wouldn't be able to afford to pay for premium services. But I guess it'd be your choice to see your house burn down and your children die in the street, right?

You've lost me on this altogether... Classic statist FUD.

Really? Who will pay for the poor when they can't afford healthcare of insurance? Will you feed/home/clothe/help them?

And you'll only go to prison if you owe money in taxes. Simple solution: don't owe any taxes. But of course, you want to pay these taxes whilst taking everything they offer and simultaneously denouncing the government and all their 'sub-par' services they offer.
16487  Other / Off-topic / Re: Movie Recommendation Station on: January 22, 2014, 04:48:54 PM
If you like horror movies i highly recommend THE CONJURING. The story is really cool and i guarantee you that you will shit your pants watching it Cheesy

Definitely a good throwback to the 70's classics! Haven't seen a better new horror movie in 2013 I think.

People go on about Ti West's films The House of the Devil and The Innkeepers being reminiscent of the great 70s/80s horror films, but I haven't seen either. He's got a new film The Sacrament out soon.

I've only seen House of the Devil and though it is a good throwback, I really didn't like it. I appreciated the nods to 70's horror films but in the end, my friend and I, even if we're big horror fans, were left underwhelmed.

Maybe you will be whelmed by his other work Grin. Has anyone seen You're Next? Ti West is in that and I've heard good things about it.

are we now in September Bitcoin wise Wink

As I posted previously I'd not heard of that term before, but it would make a great band name  Grin. The newbie spam hasn't been too bad yet, but I'm sure it'll get worse.
16489  Other / Meta / Re: What happened.... on: January 22, 2014, 04:39:21 PM
Now some people seems to create duplicate accounts. I think this is happening with the Marinecoin (MTC). I'm not alone to think that the coin operator create threads to speaks with himself to promote his crap... It'll be annoying if this kind of things keep happening...  Undecided

Haha, I think you might be right. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=223750 That user signed up and all "she" posts about is Marinecoin everywhere.
16490  Other / Meta / Re: I'm opening issues, and my all topic is delete instantly ? on: January 22, 2014, 04:35:07 PM
I'm opening a topic, After a few minutes be wiped

Was it definitely actually posted, or are you hitting the 360 second restriction?
16491  Other / Meta / Re: Fix the search / Posting thresholds on: January 22, 2014, 04:33:36 PM
Ah ok. And for the search?

Same. Goes down the more activity you get.
16492  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Happened to Newbie Board? on: January 22, 2014, 04:26:49 PM
Did BTCTalk take it away?

Gone forever..

Not quite. It's just been archived. You can still post in there. Maybe it'll come back one day. Let's see how much crap we get in the other sections now.
16493  Other / Off-topic / Re: Good place to buy PC online on: January 22, 2014, 04:18:08 PM
Anyone know any good deals on fast computers?  Ive got to process some data working at home need a workhorse thought someone here might know of some good deals...

Country you’re in and more specifics will be needed to recommend you a computer. And what kind of data are you wanting to process exactly?
16494  Other / Off-topic / Re: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose(country)? on: January 22, 2014, 04:13:50 PM
Why only one place ?
My dream is to be able to afford an over 50 foot sailboat and have enough money to live confortably on board.
Then 4 or 5 rounds around the world would not be bad at all before retirement, 2 years in Australia, 2 in Rio, 2 years in Fiji, Bora Bora, then Galapagos, US, Holand, Italy, South Africa, etc...

I don't think there would be one place I'd like to settle down either. I'd also like to travel around, but I don't know if I'd like my permanent base to be a boat, but it would be nice to maybe have enough money to sail around the world for a year or so and go whereever you like.

you can, when 1 btc = $100k

Well hopefully that will come true because I would certainly have the money to do that if 1BTC = $100k, but I reckon that'll be a very long time away yet, but who knows?

I want to live in the United Kingdom looks great over there.

As long as you can afford it!

Seriously though, I love London...

Who needs money to live here? Give us free money and we don’t pay any tax / NHS healthcare, yes please many thanks. How does the Grey UK look now? haha.

But yeah London is expensive.
16495  Other / Off-topic / Re: What Happened to Newbie Board? on: January 22, 2014, 04:02:16 PM

I don't know if it can get any worse  haha. I hardly ever go in there anyway because it's just crapcoin after crapcoin. Baffles me how people still jump on this coins when they offer nothing at all.

Some of the alt coins are worth it and look promising. But, the amount of spam in the alt coin section is getting worse and worse by each day.

What promise do they offer? A quick little bit of profit then dump them for the next clone? These coins have little-to-no long-term value.

Hahahahaha. You sure you looking at the right country? I can tell you it has certain benefits living here, but the weather and people... not so great.

I really don't understand why the Newbie Board was taken away.

As a newbie myself only a couple of months ago, it was almost a good thing to be restricted. If it wasn't for that, I might've had some information overload.

Plus, the restrictions weren't THAT bad...

That's exactly how I feel. At least they were contained before.

It's going to cause a lot of spam in the Bitcoin discussion sub forum but it seems not that much at the moment.

I am sure the altcoin section is worse off Tongue

That would be pretty cool and this whole 3D printing technology is probably going to be revolutionary, but I wouldn't get your news stories and current affairs/events from Alex Jones' Infowars  Grin.

Bitcoin is now considered Art and not a currency

Bitcoin is making an art critic out of the Swedish taxman.

The largest Nordic economy is set to reject Bitcoin and its competitors as a currency and instead give the software the same tax treatment it would an antique Persian rug or a painting by Andy Warhol.

Currencies are traditionally tied to a central bank or a geographic area,” Olof Wallin, an official at the Swedish Tax Agency who’s drafting rules for Bitcoin and the programmers who generate it, said in an interview. The Stockholm-based agency will probably “view Bitcoins as what we call another asset -- just like art or antiques.”

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-01-21/bitcoin-becomes-art-as-swedish-taxman-rejects-creative-currency.html

Haha, but Bitcoin isn't a traditional currency. Marriage used to be between a man and a woman but people need to get with the times.

This is actually one of the first articles that made me say "Oh for fucks sake" out loud Tongue

I guess you don't read too many mainstream media articles then?  Grin
