Uhh!! Most of the spamming happened on newbie section. Where else do you think those guys will go now.

I think you will regret this decision.

Maybe, only time will tell. I think we should keep the newbie section. It was a great way to spot spammers and spambots too since they were caged in there.
16662  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why do people think income tax is ok? on: January 20, 2014, 05:17:53 PM
Most people won't have any wealth anyway when they're expected to pay for everything like roads, police, hospitals, schooling and their garbage being collected so it won't matter, so you might as well be living in a jungle because that's what it'll turn into.

A free market could deliver those services cheaper and more efficiently, and we'd all be better off.

I don't believe it would, either more cheaply or efficiently. What happens to the people who can't afford all the services I mentioned above?
16663  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A friend's idea to promote on: January 20, 2014, 05:15:48 PM
could be... but it looks easy to mine no?

No idea; don't care. Maybe you should start another thread in off-topic since the newbie forum has been pretty much killed off now.
16664  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Doge to the moon...? on: January 20, 2014, 05:10:09 PM
Everyone was saying Doge was dead but in the last week it's gone from .0002 all the way to .00134 on Cryptsy this morning. I'm sure some will say it's another pump and dump, and others will say this coin is on its way to .01. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

If it's not dead it won't be alive for long. And I guess now the Newbie forum has gone this section is gonna get all these threads now.

doge will outlive most alt coins around today, it has one of the largest community's for a coin.  Cool

I'll bet you all your Doges that it wont. And how many of that community will up and leave after a while when they get bored or Doge starts loosing its value.
16665  Other / Off-topic / Re: Quick poll: heuristic for how long until a coin is considered "abandoned" on: January 20, 2014, 05:08:20 PM
I mean literally wiping it out -- grant it a value of 0.

If it's lost then the value of it will essentially be zero.
16666  Other / Off-topic / Re: Making money, alternative to Bitcoin on: January 20, 2014, 05:06:32 PM
I don't know why people trade Bitcoin, but I guess most are curious of the potential future and I'm sure a lot of people just like me want to make a bit of $

I had came across affiliate marketing, which some people claim to be able to make a large amount of $$$

If you aren't aware of what affiliate marketing is, it is basically where you put links to websites like amazon then when someone goes through your link and purchases something you get a % commission, but it isn't as easy as that. You have to get decent web traffic to your website/ video or link to get people to use it to purchase items.

I understand not many people will make $$$ but I would like to make a little extra $ for the pocket.

Does anyone have any experience or any tips when it comes to affiliate marketing, as I could do with any advice, however small!

Many thanks
Adam

Like you said, if you aren't getting major traffic to your blog or website then don't expect to earn much, but it can't hurt to have it there.

16668  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should the Newbie Forum be Archived? on: January 20, 2014, 05:02:35 PM

Oh no... why did they do that? theres probably going to be spam if people can create unlimited users and post in any forum without limit  Undecided

Yeah, not sure whether it's a good idea or not. I guess only time will tell.

16670  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how do you earn trust points? on: January 20, 2014, 05:00:08 PM
You also must check the person that give the trust feedback because there are many case he make many acc and then sent positive feedback to each acc

Yeah, those are called sock puppet accounts. And check for evidence of trades and transaction histories etc. And just because somebody has positive feedback for selling $5 worth of Doges or trading 0.005BTC successfully doesn't mean they won't scam you out of your money no matter how little it is.
16671  Other / Meta / Re: End of newbie restrictions; ban changes on: January 20, 2014, 04:41:19 PM
Unfortunate that I've been demoted because of this change, but I'm not far away from 60 activity anyway, so it's not so bad.

If it reduces spam and scams, I'm in favour.

I'm not sure it will reduce those, but just spread it all over. It'll obviously put a stop to all the why cant I post and crappy hi threads, but everything else will just be posted elsewhere.

Well, if the IPs of known scammers is blocked, it's going to make it harder for scammers to be able to spit out new accounts. Making them jump through hoops is a good thing. If they also have to pay using a non-anonymous payment service, even better.

Most scammers wont use their own IPs and will either use TOR or proxies, but I'm more concerned about spam and useless posts everywhere as scammers will always scam regardless of restrictions.

16673  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using Bitcoin in Burger King... on: January 20, 2014, 04:31:45 PM

Do they let you walk out of the store after you've used your credit card? You could go home ring your bank and cancel the transaction.

Once you send the Bitcoin the money is as good as received so you don't need to wait for the full confirmations. Retail businesses will use payment processors that will insure against double spending etc anyway so it's a moot point.

Sure, because when I use a credit card they have a fair degree of assurance that they know who I am, so they can come after me if I defraud them.

Do they? You could be any fraudster with that card. You could also claim that you never made the transaction. Cards are not foolproof or flawless just like BTC.
16674  Other / Off-topic / Re: How much for this PC? on: January 20, 2014, 04:26:57 PM
I want to sell my desktop for a decent laptop. How much would you pay for this?

You want to sell it for coin on here, or you're just asking to see how much it's worth?
16675  Other / Off-topic / Re: Quick poll: heuristic for how long until a coin is considered "abandoned" on: January 20, 2014, 04:25:43 PM

In how many years of account inactivity ("unspent transaction output," in the case of Bitcoin) do you think it is OK to wipe out someone's money?

- 1 year?
- 5 years?
- 10 years?
- 20 years?
- 50 years?
- 100 years?
- 200 years?
- 500 years?
- "IT IS NEVER OK!"
- Other?

As a reference, in some countries in the "real world," if you don't make a transaction on your checking account for 3 years, your money can be taken away (in Australia it was 7 years and they reduced it to 3).

It's for a Bitcoin fork that I'm developing where there's not a hard limit on coins. The block reward is to be the primary source of coins (1:1 on hashrate, forever) and the main sink is an ~1% depreciation on every coin per month, plus I'm think about adding an "abandoned coin" heuristic to be able to wipe out outputs that go too long unspent, hence this poll.

Thanks!
Obey

What do you mean by "wipe out someone's money"?.

And who takes the money after three years of inactivity? The government? So you leave money in a bank account for three years and then they can legally take it? I'm sure it can't be as simple as that.

16677  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Prepaid Credit Card on: January 20, 2014, 04:06:00 PM

I've been watching and subscribed to these guys for a while, and I finally ordered one of these cards a couple weeks ago. It hasn't arrived in the mail yet. I contacted them and got an immediate response that they had processed the order and the card should be on the way. Has anyone else signed up and gotten one of these and what is your opinion of it?

Basically it is a prepaid credit card that is reloadable, and it can be loaded either with regular money or with bitcoin. You use it like a credit card anywhere where Master Card is accepted. Seems like a more direct way to spend bitcoin for regular purchases.

Forgive me if this is already on another thread on the forum, I looked but haven't found anything.

It's a debit card then, not credit. And I can't confirm it, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is a scam.

Credit cards will stay for sometime. They wont go anywhere soon.

Credit and credit cards will always exist, unless somebody starts giving out Bitcoin credit.

They don't have taxes here :-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jungle.

You could try that I suppose.

Yes, we agree that having no wealth is a good way to protect yourself from wealth confiscation. Just like being dead protects you from murder.
