1661  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: South Korea Reportedly Freezes Do Kwon's Crypto Worth $40M — Luna Founder Says t on: October 06, 2022, 06:21:15 AM
Whether or not the report is true doesn't matter; no one should be keeping that amount of money in a wallet owned and controlled by a third party.
- Not your keys; not your coins.

Centralized exchanges are means through which the government can regulate amd control a decentralized technology like Bitcoin. You do not own the funds, if you don't own the private keys.

This feature is for image Insertion. In between you can post an image link.
For the image to be rendered, you would need to convert it to a BBcode first, otherwise it would not be displayed.
Even as a newbie, if you did it correctly, the image would show up in your profile and when someone who can post images quotes your post.
1663  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2022/23 Season on: October 04, 2022, 09:05:23 PM
Disappointing result from Barcelona, and I dare say; lots of work to be done in order to compete in Europe, despite the great form in the league.

Tonight's result swings the pendulum in favour of inter heading into the reverse fixture, but it's still very much in Barcelona's hands to decide their fate.
1664  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: which btc address generated do yall use ? on: October 04, 2022, 07:17:46 PM
The phrase 'bitcoin generator's makes it seem a bit complex, in the basic sense, you want to create a wallet which holds your private and public keys.
Electrum is a great option for this, so is Bitcoin core. Ensure you follow the process securely, to really keep the process safe, and back up your seedphrase properly.

If you're looking for an address that would cut on fees, you should go for SegWit addresses (starting with a 'b'). It reduces the fee rate paid on transactions, as it (basically) reduces the size of the transaction.
1665  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Asking about anonymity when I pay with Bitcoin on: October 04, 2022, 07:03:09 PM
@o_e_l_e_o, I'm just interested in something when it comes to Bisq and similar platforms when it comes to payment to one of the services/bank accounts after a person sells BTC or wants to buy it. I understand that all the data is saved locally on each client's disk, but do the clients see each other's data when they have a transaction - specifically if I sell Bitcoin and make a payment to my bank account, does the other party see my data?
I'm certain that bisq does not control fiat transactions which happens off their platform, so it's certain the buyer of your Bitcoin would see your bank account details necessary to make the payment. This would be the same with other means of exchange.
In this scenario, your data would not be fully exposed, but only enough for the other party to be able to make a transaction, and you confirm on receipt of the funds.

It's advisable to use a privacy-centered means of accepting fiat payment, to avoid disclosing personal details
1666  Other / Meta / Re: Frequent 400 Bad Request errors on: October 04, 2022, 06:50:11 PM
I have indeed hitting some errors when accessing the search option over the past few days, did not note the particular error, and also did nottthink too much of it, as it was not in an amount to be bothered about.

I'm guessing your case is of a much higher duration than 2-4 errors over that span of about 3 days and over two different browsers (Firefox and duckduckgo).
1667  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Asking about anonymity when I pay with Bitcoin on: October 04, 2022, 11:53:15 AM
Is there any Bitcoin services that are known to keep anonymity? A bitcoin arena that
It's known not sharing the information with 3th parties or governments?
By Bitcoin arena, do you mean exchange? If yes, then the above suggestion bisq and LocalCryptos are good options but the medium of paying also has to be private.

There are other centralized and P2P platforms which promise to not disclose your information. But, whatever personal details you've shared with a 2nd party should be considered compromised, as they can be hacked and stolen, or the government through a court order forces them to reveal it.
Even if they promise not to keep logs, you should still not trust them entirely.
1668  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I have been posting On bitcointalk but my activity is not increasing on: October 04, 2022, 11:30:39 AM
Here's the link the the activity calendar. It tells the date and time of the start of the next activity period, which is 8:53 (forum time) tomorrow.

You can use the sheet in subsequent times to know when to expect an activity push, after making more posts than activities.
1669  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Am I secluded to beginners board only for now? on: October 04, 2022, 07:41:25 AM
Your first post is in the Gambling Discussion Thread. Also, I don't see any of your deleted posts. Why do you ask such stupid questions, then? I don't see the need to create the thread you created, as it's worth trying first and asking later.
The culture of hitting on newbies, for the sake of it is quite unhealthy to me. Members ask questions based on ignorance of the fact, and sometimes can, and should, be given the benefit of the doubt even if it looks obvious to older members.
Op could be asking if there's an unwritten rule about it, and even though the can post there (other boards), is it something the should be doing, or it could be a simple oversight.

If you are asking about the opportunity to write on a topic for beginners, then such questions, if they continue, are unlikely to give you a reputation. It is necessary to be independent; the forum is not a kindergarten.
Newbies are encourage to ask questions, B&H could very well be the kindergarten of the forum, and it's a complex forum enough for anyone to get confused on one thing or the other.
1670  Economy / Economics / Re: 100 years ago, Henry Ford wanted an alternative currency. Well before Satoshi on: October 03, 2022, 08:30:31 PM
Quote
He intends to do this by building "the largest power plant in the world" and creating a new currency system based on "units of power."
His thinking might have be somewhat similar to the Bitcoin idea, but the intention was way different.

Having a singular power plant fueling the system already presents a sort of centralization, one which can be controlled, particularly by the state it is located in; considering that control of money (to sponsor wars) was the idea behind the whole thought, that would have made it no different
1671  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: buying cryptocurrencies with a payoneer account on: October 03, 2022, 07:48:23 PM
Any particular reason you only wish to use payoneer?
Bisq is a great, secure and private way to buy cryptocurrencies, and you can check out the list of accepted payment methods here.
1672  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Am I secluded to beginners board only for now? on: October 03, 2022, 06:59:04 PM
Am I free to comment on any other boards as I do here and also ask questions there too?
There was a time Newbie jail existed, when newbies where restricted to Beginners & Help board, but that has been stopped and would not be coming back.

You are free to post in other boards on the forum (edit; except serious discussion and Ivory tower, as a newbie), and I would encourage you check around the various boards and find topics that interests you, from politics to economics. You can also check if you have a local board to interact with people from your region.

Do well to check the pinned message on the different boards and child boards, before making a thread there.
1673  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is a seed phrase precisely, and why is it significant? on: October 03, 2022, 06:56:33 PM
What happens if I lose my seed phrase? One of the major questions newbies ask

The safety of your seed phrase is extremely important, but people keep getting hurt. If lost, there is nothing else that can be done to recover it.
If your seedphrase gets lost, it cannot be recovered, but if you suspect it has been compromised; for example, you just imputed it into a suspected phishing link, or it was exposed one way or the other, you can try to very quickly sweep the finds linked to the keys into a new address which is not compromised.

There is of course no guarantee that you would be faster, and wouldn't lose funds before you can successfully send out the funds.
To avoid situations when it is lost (but not compromised) keep multiple backups.
1674  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Paper can easily get ruined, fast. on: October 03, 2022, 05:16:03 PM
Natural disaster can affect seed phrase written in a book.
Putting them in two different locations would prevent this. Disaster proof is not so reliable as there are many variables to consider.

A safe way of being relatively secured is having more than one safe locations. A disaster would not likely hit both (or more) of the locations at the exact same time.
1675  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Delay in transaction on: October 03, 2022, 04:30:52 PM
Op, you should note that you can only bump the fee if you enabled RBF when making the transaction. The only other option left is to wait till it gets confirmed, or in the off chance that it doesn't, till it's dropped from the mempool (~2 weeks).

CPFP - Child Pays For Parent is an option if you are desperate to have it sent now, and you're in control of the receiving address.

and also you need to be reassured that you have not fall a victim of double spending through the process after several attempts of resending the unconfirmed transaction.
Except the inputs involved where unconfirmed when they were used in a new transaction.
1676  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: It's alright to lose and learn on: October 03, 2022, 11:47:23 AM
4. No shame in starting from scratch: using myself as an example I am starting fresh and going back to the very basics and I am not ashamed to admit that. The good news is that I am better experienced and more mature.
You should have started from the basics when you first began your journey. Knowledge is the first thing you gain when planning an investment, before you consider putting in your money.

With the current situation, you're not starting from the scratch, you're restarting now, with a bit of experience.
Many of the high ranked members here, might have made one or two mistakes during the start of their Bitcoin journey, and have learnt valuable lessons along the way.
1677  Other / Meta / Re: How to get a Rank promoted Can? on: October 01, 2022, 08:34:39 AM
How can I move up the rank on Bitcoin Forums?
How can you learn more about Bitcoin and benefit from the plethora of information available on this forum?
This should be your question and not how to move up ranks.

The primary goal of this forum is to be a hub of sharing information and engaging in constructive discussions. You can benefit from those discussions by reading more and doing your research. There's a search option on the forum, to dig into whatever information you need and you can always ask questions if you get confused on anything.

Protip; the search option would also answer your initial question.
1678  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: One way to avoid scam wallets on: October 01, 2022, 05:35:42 AM
The Arrival of Cryptocurrency to better our transaction and banking services has indeed lead to many scams.
Cryptocurrencies has not led to many scams, scams have been very common long before the first Bitcoin transaction was made, scammers just had one more option to perpetrate their scams through.
People have also been calling victims to phishing apps and links and losing money, even through their bank accounts.

People fall easily for scam wallets because of reviews and and ratings on Google play. Reviews on Google play does not guarantee a genuine wallets free from phishing or scam.
Always download from the official website of the wallet and not from Google play store. You can also verify the signature for extra confirmation.
1679  Other / Meta / Re: Here Is One Reason Why Legendary Members Get So Many Merits on: September 30, 2022, 11:39:42 AM
I see how many active forum users get a lot of merit, it inspires me, because I understand that it is possible, but I also see what kind of knowledge you need to have for this, and this is not an easy job and this is a well-deserved result.
I do not tend to get a lot of merit or consider myself to be very knowledgeable, especially about the technicalities of Bitcoin, but I would say that users do not get merits for any particular type of knowledge. There's no blue print on what you should know or how you should write; we have members here who focus on the gambling board, or economics, or mining, or trading and get merits there, while sharing useful information on topics they are interested in.

My point is, do not post a certain way inorder to fit in, particular when that topic does not interest you. Find your niche and grow your knowledge in that particular area. Wish you best of luck on your learning journey.
1680  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is crypto hot wallet that bad on: September 29, 2022, 07:11:22 PM
Hot wallets like trust wallet, pocket wallet, math wallet are the best crypto wallets among all.
This is terrible advice. Hot wallets are absolutely not ideal to be used as a means of storage, and the ones you recommended are not the most ideal ones to use.

I think it's also a good decision for your friend to store funds in those wallets. But we should backup phrase in a safe place.
Keeping a backup, when you wallet can be easily hacked from your wallet which is connected to the internet all the time?
