1681  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BAMT - Easy persistent USB key based linux for dedicated miners/mining farms on: February 05, 2012, 02:06:21 PM
Hi lodcrappo,

I have finally found the time to get cgminer setup on all of my rigs. You have done some amazing work!

It is nice that:

- when one GPU dies it does not kill the entire rig.
- cgminer tries to recover sick GPUs
- auto-gpu and auto-fan work very nicely and will keep things cool
- I can down clock memory even more as cgminer seems to be able to handle mining with less memory
- cgminer can deal with multiple pools at once, no more waiting for a couple minutes to see if the pool comes back before failing over

I cannot thank you enough for putting BAMT and cgminer together. This really is the killer mining combo.

It looks like my original bounty for the integration of cgminer was 30 BTC.

http://blockchain.info/tx-index/15181113/90ec8620bb6e6987d78bdaebce405d3d6ac2b10ac54a385a66f7a1c640683b64

I have also added a days worth of mining earnings for everything you have been doing.

To everyone who posted a bounty: Please pay lodcrappo the bounty you put up!

I would also like to recommend to everyone using BAMT that you donate 1 day of mining earnings for all of the hard work lodcrappo has done and will continue to do on BAMT.

Thanks again lodcrappo. You rock!  Grin

I think phoenix is pretty decent as well but meh.

Any news on the v5 image ? Will it be 64bit only ?

Thanks !

now back to only 105% ?

Yeah. Interested in this as well.

Thanks !

1688  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] RealCoin [A new e-commerce business platform] on: February 04, 2012, 12:26:11 PM
I really do hope this is a total joke.

So much for decentralization. You are going against all that BTC stands for.

LOL. Buying your fairy money for $100 each - how stupid do you think we are ?

I hope this fails utterly grandiously for the $10K you supposedly invested into it.

PayPal is MUCH better than this BS chain. As said above, you are not BoA !

I will start my own coin and demand $10 for each coin. It is called BulaCoin !

Can anyone say scammiest joke chain of 2012 ?

10 billion premined ? Miners get only TX fees ? I guess somebody needed to break RealSolid's record of centralization Huh

What phatk kernel and poclbm kernel does this use ?

Where can I see detailed output ?

Thanks !
Both custom ones unique for cgminer. Phatk is something like ~phatk2.2. poclbm, not sure. The current development versions are updated slightly to work with GCN, but are not the fastest GCN kernels.

edit: exactly what detailed output are you after?

Where can I see what values cgminer chooses for the worksize and vectors with each kernel etc. ?

Thanks !

Hi, We will have times of high reject rates. These should average out to under 2% over time. Some of the work is rather harsh and yesterday was very harsh. There is no way to get around this as part of the reason we can pay so much is because we are about the only ones willing to mine under these conditions. This is where the money comes from so we just have to take it and deal with it. Once we get to .01% reject rates your pay will go down:)

Thanks.

U got PM !

Thanks !

Likely phatk with 2.1/2.4/2.5 will be faster on everything but GCN.

If you are benchmarking, make sure to delete any .bins before you start, and start cgminer twice after that so it can generate the bins the first time (which is slow) and then load them the second time.

Even 50 shares will do for the MH/s quoted at the end provided you have no network connectivity issues. Don't look at all at how long the shares took to generate, but look at the average MH/s.

How can I see the values that cgminer chooses for the kernel and worksize by default if none are specified ?

Just check the logs I believe ?

What phatk kernel does cgminer include by default ? Is it made by Phateus or Diapolo user ?

Thanks !
1693  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Idea to go GPU and not FPGA on: February 03, 2012, 05:20:13 PM
I been looking at FPGA mining because of the cost of electricity and Dec 2012. Well I figure why not just keep going the GPU route? Why not power your mining rigs with wind/solar power? Sure there is a nice little start up cost; however, going green for your home means you qualify for tax credit. So for us with a set goal in mind for our desired hashing power wind/solar makes sense. Instead of investing in FPGA the offset cost between GPU and FPGA can be spent on going green. So you get same energy cost if you were running FPGA and you get the cheap hashing power of GPU.

So assuming 36 6870 for 10Gh/s
11,500 cost of PC hardware (not solar/wind hardware)
5 dollars a coins

By Dec 2012 You could very well be in profit assuming you sale coins above 5 dollars. Also after you're ready to stop mining or bitcoin goes under you still have green energy to keep your bill down, PCs, GPUs that can be sold, no trying to find a use for your FPGAs, and the warm feeling of going green.

There's other reasons NOT to go green. Besides the fact that it is way more expensive to get the green energy in the first place, and that it has an undetermined ROI, you should also consider that FPGAs have a HUGE benefit when compared to GPUs:
HEAT!

While going green sounds nice for smaller arrays, I have to keep the windows open for my 5 GH/s rig(this is january, -5° C), otherwise 2 of the cards hit a 100C. Besides, GPUs make lots of noise, which is another excellent reason to switch to FPGAs. My point is, that you can easily deploy FPGA's with about 10x the hashing power at the same electrical cost, without most of the heat, without almost all of the noise(since FPGAs can be cooled with lower-rpm fans that do make less noise), and at a ROI of 5-10 months. after that point you make decent profits.

You have to be pretty aggressive to get a ROI on a solar panel or some wind power generator in less than a year, and green energy, that isnt that green btw(considering that the CO2 bilance for producing a solar panel alone exceeds the CO2 balance for creating that same energy with coal or gas), doesnt solve the essential problems of mining and living in coexistance: Heat, maintenance and noise.

I have to admit though, that we did never turn on even one of our heaters since we installed the last 2 GH/s.

Yeah. Considering that FPGA are less likely to die than your GPUs and you got a clear winner. FPGA FTW !

Phatk will almost surely be faster than poclbm on old hardware AFAIK.
Why don't you do some benchmarking and post the results here? Wink

Really ? I saw people swear by poclbm kernel and ATI SDK 2.1 for 5870s but that is very moderate performance for me right now. About 430 mhash/s at 960 core and 320 memory.

I thought phatk is to bring poclbm+2.1 performance but with sdk 2.4 ?
1696  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Bitcoin Contraption of the week on: February 03, 2012, 11:06:03 AM
Laugh all you want. It does work.... and better than the stock one :p

... provided you only have 1 per rig lol.

wait, thats a 5870 and you're getting 456.22 MH/s?

I get 503 on my 5870 @ 1090/330. P4's 456mhash @ 1000mhz has a small room for improvement; I can do 461.47 at 1000/330.

Kernel ?
SDK ?
Software config ?

Thanks !
1697  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER GPU bitforce overclock monitor fanspeed RPC in C linux/windows/osx 2.2.1 on: February 03, 2012, 10:57:23 AM
Updated git tree. (Thanks go to sveetsnelda for most of these fixes)

Update poclbm kernel for better performance on GCN and new SDKs with bitalign support when not BFI INT patching. Update phatk kernel to work properly for non BFI INT patched kernels, providing support for phatk to run on GCN and non-ATI cards.

If you're desperate to try these on windows, downloading the new files and using the old filenames will work

https://raw.github.com/ckolivas/cgminer/master/phatk120203.cl
https://raw.github.com/ckolivas/cgminer/master/poclbm120203.cl

use them to overwrite the existing
phatk110817.cl
poclbm110817.cl

This is not a magic performance enhancement. It might improve on nvidia if you can use the phatk kernel, and it will be significantly better on GCN (79xx cards) but will not match other kernels out there yet.

OK. So currently what is the best possible combination for 5870s ? SDK 2.1 and poclbm ? SDK 2.1 and other kernel ?

Which kernel has the lowest ALU OPs for 5870s ? I don't care about SDK because I can use 2.4 or 2.1 or 2.6 etc. I only care what gets me most MHash/s right now on my 5870s !

Thanks !

Heya

Please read the emails I send out when something happens Wink

That said, its still having intermittent software issues that Im still looking into, other than that the server is up and running again.

I hope to clear up all outstanding issues as soon as possible but sometimes its just not that easy but I am on it like a bear Smiley

OK. So is the pool up now ? I think I finally got my end working so I should be able to start. Thanks !

There is no way on earth it only says 0 devices enabled. I'm trying to help you so I expect the courtesy of you actually using the goddamn command.

An -n output looks like this.
