1721  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: THE ONLY ALTS THAT ARE REAL PROJECTS HERE !!!!---------CURRENT JULY 2018!! POLL! on: September 11, 2018, 04:00:18 PM
the bitbay peg is in full testing .....

they would welcome more people to trial it out and see just how much work bitbay is still doing behind the scenes.

any other news from any other projects listed here would be welcome too

if at any time people think any projects here should be removed ...state your reasons so we can evaluate this

there are maybe a couple that could be looked into by now

Hello! BitBay Client is synchronized by 6% and does not want to continue. (Client version 1.35) What's the problem, help.

all seems fine with the network.,.. maybe just pausing and will start again after some time.

I would prefer to invest in a team that has a deeper understanding of DAG technology like BYTEBALL

yes a lot is happening with BitBay .Today a double deposit web market place demo is up and running and it looks great but more features will be add as time goes on.

This will be huge once it takes off and is much needed really.
I still think the totally decentralised market place relying on no central servers that David has created is amazing.
However I think the masses will appreciate a web browser based service in a big way.

Once it starts to take off and snowball it will be quite something to watch and be in on.

Update: So far over the last 2 days we've frozen the supply down to 87.7% liquid on our test Clients. 😀
The current idea is that when we actually enforce the peg on the entire network, we will be fair by starting at 0% frozen.
Currently the rate of change is limited to 1% per voting session with a max of 7 changes per day for a total of a max of 7% deflation or inflation every day.

This could change before the peg is finally reelased. We might even make it a range like 1-2% or 1-3% per voting session. The range would be determined by counting the majority of a particular direction. So for example, with a range of 1-2% in place. And for example, 1 vote session receives 100% deflate votes, then that session would freeze accounts' liquid supplies by 2%. And if the same vote was 60% deflate and 20% inflate, and the rest being 20% no change, then that vote session might only deflate 1%
So at 1-2% range we could get a max of 14% deflate or inflate in one day.  And at 1-3% we could get a max of 21% either direction in one day.

Still toying around with the ideas.

However, being that we WILL start out at 100% liquid to be fair to the 'bears'. It will take a few days before we can really see a change in the market manipulators that have been destroying investor confidence for pretty much the entire altcoin industry. Unless of course, buy support starts catching wind of what we will accomplish here over the next 1-2 months.

We'll beat them though. I for one will be voting to deflate coin supply till we reach a much more realistic fair market value.
We are the only legacy altcoin in the entire industry working to remove the manipulation once and for all. That statistic alone make me believe we deserve to be over a dollar a coin and will be voting to fight for that price till we can get to it.
I hope you guys will agree!😂
But this is a democracy after all and you all can vote however you want!

What I love about the peg system is that you have to be active on the Client to vote and voice your opinion on price action.
A bear manipulator can't vote to inflate liquid coins and place sell orders at the same time!   Or at least not without weakening his true power as if he had no sell orders at all!

Which means the voting system favors those that believe in the coin. And I'd think for the most part, people will want their investment equity protected.

This is going to make for one of the most interesting trading games on the planet!

____________________________________________

And now that the obfuscation error is fixed I will resume testing marketplace items and other features!

Cheers!

I have still not really got to grips with the deeper working on this rolling peg.

However.... will there be options for people who are investors but do not watch the markets daily and be there to vote many times per day for them to select an auto pilot option that casts their vote for freeze unfreeze according to % moves in the market place. Or just an option of max deflate until x price like.... max deflate until 1 dollar.

I mean to really build a huge market place like ebay or even 5% of ebay we will need bitbay to really be like what 2-3 bucks or greater for enough liquid supply and the DD escrow to be active for all transactions.

I see a lot of  precious metal sellers in the buy and sells but nobody will trust them with their btc.... with DDE then this would become viable.

If you are not actively voting on the Client, but you are actively staking coins. Then yes, each time you win a stake reward from a block, it's as if you are voting for the "Automated Pegging Vote" to decide to control supply and demand. Because your staked block reward takes away from others trying to vote to manually control supply. There is only 1 vote allowed per block.

There are 5 types of votes to choose from in the Client. It's very user friendly. No coding skills are required.

Automated Pegging Vote
Vote to Deflate/Freeze Supply
Vote to Inflate/Unfreeze Supply
Vote to Maintain Supply
Do not Vote on Supply

Ah that makes sense.
I only wonder if we can freeze up supply a little more quickly if we needed to. Then again I guess 21% frozen in one day is good going.

If the automated pegging algo could eventually say recognise a 10% or greater drop over x time and instantly implement a super freeze in a shorter time frame.

Then again David and you guys have obviously thought a lot about this and found the best model.

Can't wait to see how this works.

Perhaps the sec will allow bitbay before btc for an ETF Smiley

This together with Davids possible ideas for greater scaling puts bitbay in the primary position here in my opinion.

crypto is crying out for a stable or more stable currency... these wild fluctuations are crazy of late

The manipulation is widespread too. It's making me sort of miss the old days when all thousand coins on the market didn't obviously coordinate buys and sells.
The exchanges must be in on it as well as the news. Pick any two coins on the market with nothing in common and yet their charts may as well be identical.

Kind of worrying to think there is such collusion as this happening.

1730  Other / Meta / Re: Have we left "Bitcoin Discussion" board for spammers, forever?? on: September 05, 2018, 02:47:22 PM
the bitcoin main board is rather like a personal one on one with satoshi compared to the alt main board.

think yourselves fortunate if you have no need to venture there to find a sensible/informative/mildly interesting thread to read

decentralised moderation via a new version of noob jail using junior boards and merits is the only way forward

want to spend your time feeling negative about reporting bots, spammers, shills, and just noobs that have not read the rules or want to spend some time now and then rewarding new genuine members that want to learn themselves and willing to help other noobs learn about crypto.

seems an obvious way forward and nobody has really posed a reason not to go forward with it other than people can go to a lot of time trouble if they want to get around this .... only to be nuked if they are noticed acting in an undesirable way later on.

let's get on with it before we have nobody left posting anywhere except in meta complaining about how shit the main boards are now.

I have even gone back to using reddit lately that's how bad it really is here now on the main alt boards and even the btc main board is just the same crap regurgitated round and round

Of course some of the ann threads here are still the best for specific projects if you don't want to go slack or more annoying mediums
1731  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: September 05, 2018, 02:38:21 PM
I think Tony should burn the remaining undistributed bytes.

This would:

1. Serve as a token of gratitude to everyone who has believed in the project so far.

2. End the current uncertainty about the remaining bytes. It was once crystal clear who was getting what and when. This is no longer the case.
Tony distributed bytes to BTC users in hopes it would give BB the best possible chance to succeed. Most agreed this was a sound system for multiple reasons.
After x months Tony believed continuing this process was no longer the most optimal route to gain new users. I can understand this reasoning as well.
Sidenote: I personally think he should have done this whole distribution in just 1-3 steps. Sure, repeating the percentage bonus over and over created hype. However it also further increased the gap between holders. Personally I'm not sure if the former made up for the latter.

But here we are and the distributions to BTC holders has ended. Great. I think Tony has done a fantastic job with this project so far. Now just burn the rest. Let us move forward from here knowing the distribution process has been completed. This would help making the current core of the community as happy as it can be before continuing the expansion outwards. You want us to be as motivated as possible to help you out with this expansion. You already have a great product and it's only going to get better..but you also need to preserve and encourage the community you've built so far.

I'd also support Tony taking 5% for himself instead of just 1. He could also ask for donations if he needs more bytes.
I bet a lot of people would be more than happy to send him some extra bytes if he'd just burn the rest.

// Mac

for sure ...let's all start putting pressure to go in this direction.

else like someone else suggested start pushing the cash back to some sensible online places that have some traffic and adoption.

I prefer the burn it and let tony keep 5% Idea.

1732  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: September 04, 2018, 01:09:04 PM
What are the results of the Venezuelan Use-a-Thon?

The winning project introduced a GBYTE/Fiat (Bolivares) gateway, making it more convenient for merchants to accept bytes as means of payment. They build their project incrementally starting off more or less manually handling all transactions and gradually introduce more and more automation and integration. So far, they have managed to successfully provide bank-transfers to/from 3 of that largest Venzuelan banks. Their volume is constantly increasing (stats not publicly available as government/regulation in Venezuela isn't exactly "safe") and it's the base foundation for more and more merchants wanting to shield their money from the insane inflation rates in the country. Even in bear markets and with depreciating price of basically any crypto, it's still far to prefer over their fiat currency that suffers inflation rates as high as 1000% per month. Consider that for a while, and then reconsider how everyone is whining in crypto these days ;-) (link: https://capybaraexchange.com)

Another project from the Use-a-Thon aims to replace the internal financial system of the Simon Bolivar University with Byteball. When a faculty applies for funding of a research project, the verification and acceptance process is rather bureaucratic and takes a long time. Once it is approved, the funds get transferred to the central financial department. This process costs extremely large fees to banks (and government) so already when the funds arrive, they have significantly decreased. From the central financial system, money are then distributed to each of the faculties/research projects again requiring large bank fees to be paid and yet another bureaucratic and lengthy process. When the money finally arrive to the research project, inflation and bank fees have rendered the granted funding to be insufficient and thus the projects cannot actually pay for the equipment or staff needed to complete the projects. For this use case, the far greatest hurdle to overcome has been to get through to the university management and get the legal consequences sorted. Thanks to one of our area representatives, who is a professor at the university, it allowed a better access to the right authorities at the university to move the project forward. The project is currently preparing to launch a beta test of the entire solution where they apply the Byteball platform to one particular set of courses, allowing external parties to pay for the courses using Bytes. Here, the Capybaraexchange comes in handy as well, as it allows the university to easily convert to/from Bolivares.

There is a third project that aims to support students financially for completing their trimester and passing their exams. Right now, the university experiences a whopping 60% of students not signing up for next trimester and thus never completing their education. The economic situation in Venezuela requires a lot of people to get a job to earn just a few dollars to be able to maintain a sustainable living. By providing a platform that allows external donors to directly "fund" a student with $3-5 a month provided they pass their exams and sign up for next trimester it is the hope that more students will be able to focus on their education and on the larger scale, be the possible change that the country so badly needs. The solution involves a student to verify their identity first before signining up to the program through an in-wallet bot. An Oracle taps into the central student system to read and post score and enrollment to the DAG for each student. If the student passes all exams, the donation stored on a smart contract will be released to the student. If not - it will be returned to the donor. No intermediaries or potentially corrupt middle man to interfere with the system. The project is currently just on the idea stage and the actual platform development still needs to be done. Again, legal issues are the main problem and getting university authorities to accept an oracle to tap into the central student system is the main hurdle. But again, the area representative will prove highly valuable to help out with that.

I don't visit bitcointalk a lot, but reading people's comments here - particularly those complaining about lack of activities, missing use cases and stuff like that - it's obvious that we generally need better forms of communicating what is actually going on. Don't you guys read the weekly newsletters? Aren't you reading the announcements on the Byteball Slack? Announcements are even relayed to our Telegram (https://t.me/byteball) so I'm actually rather surprised to learn how little "investors" apparently seem to care for their "investment" or how little effort they put into actively seeking information. It's not like any of the above have been kept secret or anything :-)

the whiners main concern is not lack of activities but the USD price of bytes

ironically many of them got their bytes for free

this type of degenerate behaviour is not isolated to byteball either

I have seen many investors whiners being concerned at 95% real terms USD drops on their investments bags

1735  Other / Meta / Re: How can we stimulate Bitcoin Talk? on: September 04, 2018, 12:05:53 AM
Several members have stated in private conversations with me that BT is getting boring. I must admit that I sometimes have trouble stimulating interest, or finding topics where I can contribute. The world is in economic turmoil with various economies on the brink of failure. Alongside this, established and new crypto-currencies and digital banking methods are gaining in popularity and strength. One would expect Bitcoin Talk to be humming at the centre of this revolution. How can we stimulate informed discussions, and help BT to grow away from its current emphasis on the crypto underworld, and gain a place in the respectable financial world?

I've started an initiative to award merits on a different board each day for a week or so, and I'm starting with the political board. Is there a better use for my sMerit awarding time?

The problem is finding threads with posters not posting repetitive nonsense  to earn a few bucks.

No sigs, at all for anyone under hero and any heros and legends found to be posting blatant nonsense get bumped down a level

Junior boards for any one under full member.

You would see the main boards start to flourish.

Hell if that sounds unfair just remove sigs for everyone. You still need the junior boards though because noobs have no issue asking the same questions over and over on new threads and saturating the main boards. Hence finding an interesting thread with some incentive to reply on is almost impossible. This applies to the alt boards far more than than the btc.

Then rather than feeling negative about reporting spam and endless shilling we can feel positive about going to the junior boards now and then to merit those making efforts to contribute or learn for real.

Anonymint - i am sure if you combine knowledge, willingness to try to break it down for joe public, willingness to analyse many new interesting designs and an interesting and different open and honest character then you can't really name anyone else who can compete on all of those levels. Writing style is something of a work of art too.

CFB - can be funny and amusing - always worth a read once he gets into a scrap with people

Bruno or yutucoin - great soh and investigator of scams - one of the most valuable members here actually

BCX - was another fun one to read in the past for sure

They may not like being described as entertaining but actually if you say which posts do you like to read these are some that can provide great threads in many different ways

Lauda knows how to tick people off and is quite funny too

ICEbreaker - another person I have enjoyed reading in the past

Smooth - another one who in the past has been fun to read.

Spot had his moments before getting turned to the dark side

a lot of the very best are gone now sadly.

Really the best battles and best characters are gone or hardly posting for quite some time.

1737  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: September 03, 2018, 04:38:01 PM
A month ago i asked the owner of an online store accepted btc (he is a crypto enthusiast), whether they want to add gbyte. He told me that i was the only one who asked such a question and that he had never heard of it. After he conducted his research, he replied that he would not have added this shitcoin even if thousands of his clients had asked for it. He said that using this coin is equivalent to shooting in the leg, that no adequate person will want to use an coin that is losing 95% of the value for a year. And even if the price was stable, he would not use a coin controlled by one person.

Stop asking people who understand basic economics please.

TBF though the 90% loss in value is kind of what most alts have suffered ...........but one as outstanding technically as byteball should not have had to. The distribution process was a demonstration of how you can crush even the best work if you try hard enough.

Soon most people will have no reason to use anything other than btc sadly

byteball could have been great and perhaps it still will be but the stupid distribution model will take a while to iron out especially as we have crushed investor confidence by changing the rules and such dramatic losses ... .and still we have more tokens to saturate the market and still have so many tokens in the hands of other ico managers

there are solutions but nobody wants to take the actions required to turn it around fast

1738  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BYTEBALL: Totally new consensus algorithm + private untraceable payments on: September 03, 2018, 04:23:24 PM
wow the winner has only 1828 votes. Where is all 70.000 of steem flooders? Byteball community is a 348 members. Adoption as it is  Grin
Meanwhile IOTA and Volkswagen to launch first product, "Digital CarPass", in Q1 2019 https://www.investinblockchain.com/iota-volkswagen-digital-carpass/

1. steem does not even have 70000 real users

2. byteball has 3 fruit and veg stores in italy using it and a piano shop- those can only afford to use mission critical working products..

VW....well

Don't worry byteballs time will come.... keep loading up and pressuring tony to destroy the rest of the bytes that remain to be distributed as soon as possible......let's say he should keep another 3-5% for himself if he destroyes the rest right now.

The constant dilution to people that have no other interest in bb other than to dump their 10 dollars worth asap are just crushing it downward. The mere thought thought even 0.001% are adopting it and spreading the word is **********

I have no doubt at all that the 700000 steem grabbers were a fiction.

Although there are many good ideas out there, aren't you safer to invest in an ICO which already has a functioning and proven product? ROI is much more likely in this scenario

Yes 1000% now ... people are wising up after 80% of the white papers from 2017 were actually bog roll

that will rise to 99% or greater as time goes on and even those that were serious at the time realise they are not nobel prize worthy and can't pull off the unrealistic fantasy they could dream up for bct members to cling on to

you will not find the 1% that can pull it off before you run out of money

stick to btc or projects that are complete or have completed the vast majority of their project to a functioning standard with a certain use case

In other words stick to btc unless you are an expert in many fields that are required to make an educated gamble
