1301  Other / Meta / Re: Why are FUD-trolls allowed to open 4 topics per day? on: December 05, 2018, 12:45:38 AM
I agree with you OP

I also think people opening 4 new topics within 4 days spamming their favourite alt on the alt discussion board should be told to merge them and also get a 1 week ban and 100 merit or what (if dont have 100) the poster has deleted.

I have seen numerous ada and eos  topics opened by the same account before under the guise of new great observations about the project. They could have mentioned all of that on their first thread.

Should be 1 new thread opened per week on the same alt per poster.

Would be cool to have sigs removed from the main alt board because deliberate spammers and bots get noticed and are less welcome in the communities own threads in the ANN section. You always get some passionate people in most ann threads who wouldnt endure too much trash sprouting up in their threads.

The main alt discussion board is the one that has certainly been damaged the most since end of 2017 and needs the most help.

1302  Other / Meta / Re: Is this forum boring? on: December 05, 2018, 12:35:27 AM
You can make 6 million dollars for posting your name here so....?

That's just the financial side. You are part of shaping  a complete paradigm shift with regards the foundations of society on a global scale...

I guess that's a couple of things that may being of some excitement to most?

Where is the bounty thread or were you just meant to reply with a helium address to that PM?

1308  Other / Meta / Re: Please Unban me 'SocialVerifier' on: November 30, 2018, 10:51:07 PM
I don't see why you are banned so far but i fear you will waste more than 146 posts appealing.

If it was an unfair ban I hope you will learn the reason and perhaps get it reversed but for such an account it is not the end of the world.

I would only be spending time appealing if I had made at least 1000-2000 posts or more.

Sometimes in life you need to operate under an effort 2 reward ratio or you will burn out and achieve far less than your potential.
1309  Other / Meta / Re: Legendary account banned? on: November 30, 2018, 08:44:40 PM
If you did a lot of great work for this forum I hope one copy and paste would not be a perm ban. Depending on severity of the instance. We are trying to rid the forum of serial spammers who have nothing to say of their own that is of any value and is just there to gain them a few bucks promoting some spam campaign. I would not want to get rid of many good legend members for this kind of thing.

Nope, the rules apply to everyone. Copy and pasting is absolutely not tolerated here. There is never a case where you will accidentally plagiarise. We've previously talked about plagarism spam vs incorrectly cited passages, so I hope we don't need to further discuss what if scenarios. Whether you are a legendary account or not, you shouldn't have any impunity to the rules. If you are here to gain a few bucks promoting some spam campaign, as long as you don't spam, its fine. The second you start spamming, you are detracting from other's forum experience to earn those few bucks, and need to be politely told to leave. A few years ago, the only copy and paste spam reports that I recall seeing were just bots advertising ED medicine or something. People just copy and pasting other people's posts is a relatively new thing. Its started because of signature advertising, its unbelievably lazy, and there can't be any tolerance for it.

The people who have been here for years and have done a lot of great work aren't here for the signature ads that incentive's spamming. Even if they are, they know better than to spam, and can get their post counts up by continuing to be helpful and do the same great work they've been doing all along. Copy and pasting posts is just lazy. If you want an excuse to get your post count up, go help some newbies, don't try to artificially inflate your post count with spam.

Look at that, this upped my post count by 1, but I'm reasonably confident it wont be reported as spam.

I'm sorry to disagree with you since you seem like a decent guy for sure.

Copy and paste is context dependent for a perm ban. I can't think how what Theymos has said said can be interpreted any other way in his most recent post on the matter.

Of course the context will be ultimately up to Theymos. Also if he even has time to review it. So that could be unlikely. Unless there was a huge outcry about someone being banned like in the case of anonymint.  Perm banning his account was a bad idea since a lot of posts he made were of great value to many including new persons seeking information. He could have just has his account frozen so he could not post but to delete all his 40k posts was quite a big loss to the board imho.

Guides, jokes , and being helpful with no financial motivation should obviously not get a legend banned. That is totally not in the spirit of this board. I have no idea why anyone would like to see that even happen.

No black and white, no robotic attitude, just simple human decision based on the individual circumstances. Imagine you found someone like gmaxwell had in all of his posts accidentally missed a reference in something he had posted. Would we simply say bye bye to one of the smartest people here for good and delete all of his posts?

Nobody is above the rules because I would not even want a newbie banned for honestly trying to be helpful.... but even less a legend that has done a lot of good to help a lot of people.

Of course others doing this to bump post counts and earn a few bucks need to be deleted.

I don't know why people are still saying that the punishment is not context dependent after Theymos last post. He is actually a very sensible and balanced person from what I can tell and would not like to see this kind of thing spiral out of control.

Of course I see the issue with not making it black and white hence why there needs to be the option of paying 0.1 btc to have your account fully reviewed if you believe you are net positive after copy and paste (not guides for noobs to mine, not humour from films etc) forund on your account.

I agree no way to have people above the rules but still we need a sensible approach where we can get rid of the spammers/scammers but not ban the net positive.

Also going back too far is strange, I mean this was not something that was policed before so going back 3 years is enough, that was really before all financially motivated people with no real enthusiasm for the environment we all want to create here turned up. If someone has made a mistake 3 years ago and not since seems very weird to punish them harshly now. I know you can't murder someone and 3 years later expect to get let off but let's remain sensible in our comparisons.

Let's clean up the board but try to not remove any net positive contributors.

I can not say about this person but he has said he would be more than willing to pay 0.1 btc for review so to me he sounds confident unless he likes blowing money away.

I am not putting blame anywhere because it is a nightmare to try and keep the board in a state that is practical for all. However legends do deserve review if they believe they are net positive over the years. That is years of work just deleted so this does need a lot of consideration. I mean I can't imagine what anonymint must feel after having years of work deleted. Some people really have over the years poured HUGE effort into helping others and stopping them getting scammed and also trying to teach them things.

This board has been the best board on the net for years ... so to suddenly be banned from it would be a dreadful thing. Let's have some empathy for others.

1 in 1000 seems reasonable of course not for financial reasons too.

Let's start with temp ban +rank reduction merit reduction. Perm ban straight away for everyone for any copy paste is too harsh.

1310  Other / Meta / Re: bitcointalk should make their own coin on: November 29, 2018, 11:48:20 PM
What's wrong with the merit (coin)?

- It's free (if you are smart enough)
- It's decentralized ( except that it's controlled by theymos but and he can reverse transactions )
- It's PoW, you have to post quality stuff to get be rewarded and you are constantly monitored by the others in the pool if you try to cheat.
- You can sent to everyone (following the specific protocol )
- There was an Airdrop in the begging but some people have missed it.
- You can actually trade it (it's not recommend as you may got tagged, but it's possible) for real money Cheesy

Why you need another coin??

1 - not at all correlated to being smart
2 - it is quite centralised the top 0.02% merit holders internally trade over 50% of their merits
3 - not a strong correlation to quality. Who you align yourself with and where you post is much more influential

Merit is useful to the board but it don't think i would like to see a coin distributed in this way.
1311  Other / Meta / Re: Legendary account banned? on: November 29, 2018, 11:33:25 PM

He probably doesn’t have time for this. You broke the rules and you got banned. Usually it doesn’t matter if you did a lot of « great » for the forum over the years.

1312  Other / Meta / Re: Is promising Merits for some useful Info wrong? on: November 29, 2018, 11:27:32 PM
Seems a good use of merit to me. Although of course could be gamed like most things. But if done genuinely then yes that seems okay to me.
1313  Other / Meta / Re: Is there a point to this board? on: November 28, 2018, 05:26:28 PM

As far as the P&S board goes, there's no way I'm posting there.  I don't think anybody changes their views based on forum discussion, and it all seems to be a big dick-waving contest to me.  And when you can't get people to agree with you?  Yep, the end result is insults and you hit the nail on the head with that one.

I think any reasonable person should have no option but to change their views if the observable events presented by others reasonably/logically requires such action.

Most peoples opinions/views (including my own) are based at times on incorrect/incomplete data. The fact we have made analysis upon such data is only negative if we refuse/ignore new hard evidence/information that conflicts or was missing and refuse to reanalyse again.

Like I say people tend to make an analysis and form opinion on bad data . They will voice that opinion and then dig their heels in to defend it at all costs regardless of conflicting observable and factual events/information. They then become unreasonable and irrational.

Really one should be pleased that someone who has an opposing opinion comes along to help you examine the data you both have access to. Of course sometimes people are over exuberant in their views and it can be hard to alter your opinion/perspective on things because that can have huge knock on effects to other opinions/views you may have and even your views on your own past behaviours causing great stress and regret.

Of course many opinions on broad things like left and right political views have some many factors/permutations on so many levels then to have a conclusive firm opinion is almost impossible. This is where AI will be able to develop a more logical/informed opinion if only based on probability and the scale of the data it can draw from.

1314  Other / Meta / Re: Is there a point to this board? on: November 28, 2018, 05:12:43 PM
I kind of like those boards actually. I had never visited them since being here before perhaps 3 weeks ago.

Some people posting there provide excellent argument/grounding for their opinions -- some are quite extreme.

I am often lurking there whilst I await for alt discussion to get back to how it was and for the best alt posters to return.

There is a point if you are neutral and want to learn or have an opinion but are open to information that could assist you in seeing things more clearly. Or at least take the next layer of the onion off.

1318  Other / Meta / Re: My post deleted by someone. truth hurts? on: November 27, 2018, 01:27:36 AM
Everyone gets some posts deleted.

If it's not in the correct section it will usually get moved.

There are I think some times when this should not happen but only in extreme cases.  At times mods do not have time to evaluate every situation.

1320  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Crash: #hashwar Until Craig Wright Is Satisfied? on: November 26, 2018, 02:07:03 AM
Just keep stacking what you can of btc each month and stop worrying about dumps. Dumps are great for accumulating more. Most new persons probably never thought they could get an entire btc for 3.6k ever again.

If you thought btc was a deal at 18k or 19k then nothing has changed with the future outlook has it? I think things are still progressing well actually. So if you thought 18k was a deal you needed to get in on then start stacking like crazy now.

Do not let emotion guide you. If you never believed in btc then any price was simply a crazy move.

OF course never risk money that is essential to survive on... black swan events must be allowed for at all times.

Selling at a loss in btc is a mugs game.
