Well that sounds fair enough - a person that has done so much for the forum deserves a bit of a wrist slap for that but why are people suggesting that is too soft? the guy is a real legend to many persons here on this forum and has saved people millions of dollars by crushing scams in the past....a bit of consecutive posting does not seem to be worthy of any thing stronger really to me.

I always think theymos is quite fair to people if he has time to review it.

You put more in you get more out. That seems fair enough to me.

Why should he receive special treatment? He has done a lot of multi postings even after being warned multiple times. And that was not the first time.

He chose not to follow the rules, so he got banned.
I just told you why he SHOULD receive special treatment over people that have done nothing here.

The more you put in the more you get out. What about this concept is hard to understand.

Imagine the board like a bank. You pay in 50k per year and occasionally do things that get you fined 5k. So long as you do not do them too often then you are net positive still by far. Now someone else who pays nothing per year comes along and does something worthy of a 5k fine and they are fucked because they simply did not pay in.

What are you suggesting that one of the very best scam hunters here gets perm banned for multi postings? How will the next wave of noobs that had no Bruno to warn them off piles millions in to a scam come and thank you? Are you suggesting this because if he got temp banned for it what would be the next step if not perm banned?

Now for instance he did something worthy of a perm ban for which there can be no excuse like scamming people himself of course there is no amount of credit one can build to null this. That would be like a 50 trillion dollar fine so bye bye for anyone.

Anyway if he got temp banned then why are you saying he got any kind of special treatment?

People I have never heard of moaning about real legends of this board that have done huge things need to start waking up to the fact you need these people because those wanting this calibre of person  perm banned for multi posting are going to do nothing to replace him.  Tons of noobs getting fleeced for millions of dollars does a lot more damage than multi posting. Of course he must stop if theymos tells him to it is his board his rules but of course anyone with a sense of the greater good will not want Bruno banned for anything other than serious serious wrong doing that reduces him to net negative.

Are you suggesting that if you have more activity the rules shouldn't be as strictly applied?

It already happens...

Bruno for example got 7 day bans instead of anything longer (gleb gemow).

It’s strange not to see a mod being so soft in this case as they normally do seem to be...

For what exactly?
He is one of THE best scam hunters and biggest contributors here so I would doubt he did anything dodgy.

AFAIK Bruno got his 7 day wrist slap for consecutive posting after being warned not to keep doing it.

1283  Other / Meta / Re: Posting in forums with moderators who give no smerit? Solutions? on: December 08, 2018, 01:47:22 PM

Sadly for you the fact is the top 0.02% of merit receivers cycle over 50% of their merit between them at this time.
You keep posting this as if it's a bad thing Tongue Quality posts deserve Merit, and the same posters have sMerit to give. It makes perfect sense that a large share of all merit goes around in a small number of users.

I'll make you a deal acarli: if you (and this offer is only valid for you) post links to 10 unmerited good posts in this topic, I'll merit them if I agree. And I'll comment on the "why". When you post the links, please quote (the relevant part of) this post so I receive a notification.

@jetcash

it is actually 100% true you can test it for yourself.

also this bunch of stats provided by r1s2g3 after I asked if he could provide

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SAi_b3umCcFJO2dMoLYjWCjNz1JhOLWrsRHhYQK-nb8/edit#gid=429409603

demonstrates the scale of the merit cycling in the tiny fraction of a percent of posters

that is without meta subsection (highly concentrated merit club) being removed. My figure estimates I think will be found to be entirely correct. You can expect some of the highest merit receivers to take a 95% hair cut.

@loyce

It only makes sense the merit back slappers club that the top 0.02 retain 50% of all their merits cycled around internally and mostly in meta

I am clearly observing merit is mostly given for simply aligning your view with others whom are active in meta and have lots of merit to give. I am seeing merit given time and time again for the voicing of opinions that are actually clearly wrong based on observable events.

Trying to conflate high merit with high value posts is incorrect.

Let me say though this is not entirely negative and I see no reason not to merit people you agree with or a friend/pal posting something you find amusing etc...... merit is for fun as well it seems. Also in meta people will almost do things you ask and you feel justified in repaying with a bit of merit.

What is wrong is to imply merit is an indication of a posts value or rather having high merit qualifies you as automatically a better post than those with less merit.

Merit is helping stop lots of negative behaviour and is fun. Therefore a positive thing.

The only statement I see that could qualify for nonsense is saying most pre merit legends are spammers.
But they are lol  Cool

(99% of it)

Yikes only 20 or so legends pre merit that are not spammers.... that is worrying. Suchmoon will be annoyed to hear that unless he genuinely believes he is a top 20 net positive contributor here. I'm pleased Satoshi is not under the 99% microscope. I can only hope Theymos, GM, VB, LJ, DZ etc can squeeze in.

The top 200 merit/meta club will be here to thrash out which are and are not any time now. Not much room for them all though.

1286  Other / Meta / Re: Posting in forums with moderators who give no smerit? Solutions? on: December 08, 2018, 02:19:16 AM
Hey guys. This is not a bashing post. I was thinking about some cool bitcoin topics and checked out the forums were I could post. Sometimes I like to spend some time making an awesome post. As you know it takes a while to write a quality post that will encourage quality engagement from other users. I noticed that on quite a few forums the moderators do not give out insignificant amounts of smerit. I will certainly post regardless, but I thought that it is discouraging to see so many threads that are 300+ replies but no smerits assigned, not even in any of the threads.

What do you guys think is a solution?

You are indeed correct. However the real fault lies with the myriads of spammers and bots and puppet accounts because they make it far more difficult to locate good posters.

This will eventually be solved meanwhile don't worry too much about merit. If you are determined to get optimal recognition for good posts (in terms of merit) you will need to use the stats provided on meta to locate the best boards to post on. Sadly for you the fact is the top 0.02% of merit receivers cycle over 50% of their merit between them at this time. I calculated that if you were to remove merits given by the top 300 to the top 200 and removed all merits given in this meta sub board most people (except a handful) would only have got max 100/150 merits. Most of the top 200 saw reductions in the 50% - 75% range (that was without subtracting merits given on the meta sub board. With that you could be looking at reductions up to 95%.

So if you have got even say 10 merits and none from the meta board (except what I just gave you for noticing this and making a relevant post here) then you are doing very well actually.

If you are a good poster you will eventually get known on the basis of your work here and I would then not worry about the rankings and merits too much.

On top of all of that there is serious gaming going on. There was a case of a legend just giving 50 merits each to 2 other accounts for nearly identical post (not really deserving of any merit) when analysed all 3 shared an eth addy so looked like highly probably alts. I would think these cases should be treated a little more harshly but merit is subjective so not really possible to police to make it fairer right now.

There does not really need to be a solution  right now because merit is working to prevent a lot of negative behaviour ( as opposed to having no merit system) and also over time once the bots, account farmers, ico spammers vanish it will be easier to locate your posts and you would hope the merit system will balance out. I have suggested a few alternatives but nobody really liked them.
1287  Other / Meta / Re: Legendary account banned on: December 08, 2018, 01:41:01 AM
I simply state all legends and heros deserve to at least see why ie the actual offence which got them banned. I do not think that is trying to discredit anyones work at all. Actually really anyone should at least see why they are banned. This thread actually does not discredit this decision it actually seems to have confirmed the correct action was taken. It seems you just do not like to think that anything should even be questioned or analysed. You should not be offended by that it is simply human nature to want to know exactly why they were punished.

I never said that they don't deserve to know, you're just making shit up. Quite the contrary - I provide proof when I can, and merit others who do. Ideally that should be the first response in the thread (there is really no point to post generic bullshit like "most likely plagiarism bla bla bla" not supported by facts) and the subsequent discussion should be about the actual violation/ban/etc. You're the opposite of that, just yapping in tangents.

I realize you're too thick to grasp that and I'm just perpetuating your nonsense by replying to you. I'm out. Have a nice weekend.

I dunno if any of that or this is on topic anymore, but... you sound like you're about to burn out. Also, you're talking about assumptions and prejudice and such and how others are not spending time researching issues/cases. You need to be self-critical, as I've seen you fail at that and you seem to not acknowledge it. It's easy to go through 100 threads a day and bark something "smart" in each of them without deeply thinking about anything. Many in these forums do that and I really don't know what good does it do.

So you're trying to make a point about not "deeply thinking about anything" by stepping into page 2 of a thread that you haven't read and have no clue about. Charming.

Look just relax. There is no need to get all huffy.

I don't go off  on tangents - i simply said let's see why he was banned. That I don't feel is off topic.

I have no idea what nonsense you are referring to.  There is no nonsense here in this thread. The only statement I see that could qualify for nonsense is saying most pre merit legends are spammers.

Just chill and have a normal discussion without feeling annoyed from the outset for being asked simple questions.

1288  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcointalk Scammers on: December 08, 2018, 01:12:43 AM
The forum is doing its best to protect people from scammers.

Of course account selling should be banned. The forum admin do not approve of it. However to say it is banned could lead to even more trust being placed on the rank and merit of an account. Knowing that you could well be dealing with an account that says legend but has been sold to a scammer last week does kind of make people more inclined to trust NOBODY and go for an escrow this means it is net positive really in the fight against people getting scammed.

Solving things often seems easy and simple but game theory/ psychology are complex things with many levels. Finding an optimal route is not often as easy as most people including myself think once someone smarter has pointed out the holes in our simple solution.

Merits are very good for stopping accounts powering up compared to not having them.
1289  Other / Meta / Re: Legendary account banned on: December 08, 2018, 12:54:02 AM
Far from muddying the waters my only intention is to help ensure things that were great about this forum remain that way.

You're jumping into appeal threads with your fallacious assumptions as if every Legendary title is worth anything. It's not. And you're refusing to spend your own time researching any of these cases instead choosing to bark at people who do. If you want to help - find actual problems that need solving and work on it. What you're doing here is not helping anyone. You're discrediting the work of moderators and reporters for no good reason.

When you have proven over 1000 pre merit legends are nothing other than spammers then I will perhaps take you more seriously.

The fuck I need to prove... I'm digging in this shit every day. It's you who needs to take off the stilettos and take a dive in this cesspool.

I don't think you understand.

I am not discrediting anyones effort. I already told you up thread that I do see you are helping and I do appreciate it.

I see no assumptions simply requesting someone listens to their questions of why? and what got them banned.

Trust me when I say I have battled long and hard against the real largest turds in the cesspool for many years. I do tend to focus more on scams than spammers and plagiarists although I accept there is an over lap and all should be targeted.
However to state "most" pre merit legends are spammers then yes you must prove it if you want anyone to take that statement seriously because it is an outrageous and ludicrous statement.

Your main issue is not having much in the way of manners, I can only assume you live in a very privileged area or have never taken your tone off of the internet into real life.  Other than that you seem okay.

I am totally in support of cleaning up the board but not even 1 innocent or well meaning legend or hero or even anyone really should be deleted in the process or not at least give opportunity to know why he was banned and hear their side. I know everyone deserves fair trial but legends and heros have sometimes put so much effort in they should get priority. I see some disputing when they have only 100 posts, they are likely to spend that appealing so that could be pointless.

1290  Other / Meta / Re: Legendary account banned on: December 07, 2018, 11:55:34 PM
I will not at all accept "most" pre merit legends are spammers. I would expect the rate of legends being demonstrated as real bad eggs like this account will shrink drastically over time.

There are people who don't accept the Earth is round so you have company here.

The number may shrink if these assholes get reported and banned. Stop muddying the waters and find a way to contribute.

I have contributed significantly to this community in the past.

Far from muddying the waters my only intention is to help ensure things that were great about this forum remain that way.

Apparently it would be correct to assume the earth is not round and rather it's an oblate spheroid.

When you have proven over 1000 pre merit legends are nothing other than spammers then I will perhaps take you more seriously.

No need to reply here since this person has obviously noticed his case for reinstatement is very weak to absolutely futile.

1291  Other / Meta / Re: Legendary account banned on: December 07, 2018, 01:01:09 PM
"most"  - you are being serious??

If you had said a few or some but "most" is ludicrous. Nobody is going to believe "most" pre merit system legends are spammers.

I would not think any but a few bought legend accounts are real financially motivated plagiarists or spammers.

More Legendaries are caught plagiarizing in a single month than the total number of users who attained Legendary status in the last 10 months. Think about that for a few minutes.

And that's just the ones who are caught breaking the rules in the most blatant way. Visit a few hundred megathreads and let us know how "few" Legendaries you find posting inane garbage.

I would expect most legends on these mega threads and spamming sigs are not the original account holders. No  legit legend account is going to need be begging for scraps. Most legit legends either 1/ does not bother with sigs or 2/ promotes only the projects they believe in or support the person who launched it. Even if there are some real legends who have avoided somehow becoming wealthy on here they would hopefully be making a lot of great posts for every post on an airdrop of begging thread.  Turn off sigs on the alt discussion board and watch the quality rise. ANN threads for the most part are self moderated because communities are quick to notice new shitposters or bots. Only the alt discussion board seems to attract lots of fake conversations and only just above obvious bot level posts.

I will not at all accept "most" pre merit legends are spammers. I would expect the rate of legends being demonstrated as real bad eggs like this account will shrink drastically over time.

So far I see 2 people wrongly accused but those were not actually legend accounts.

Still any legend should be shown why they were banned. This person has zero chance now of being reinstated and that is his own fault. Must be a purchased account.

1292  Other / Meta / Re: Legendary account banned on: December 07, 2018, 02:42:38 AM
LOL "most pre merit legends are spammers " ??  please be serious. The real legends are mostly all pre merit.

I am serious. All that was needed to become a Legendary was to keep posting for 2-3 years. There is nothing special about that title. This thread (and many others like it) proves that.

"most"  - you are being serious??

If you had said a few or some but "most" is ludicrous. Nobody is going to believe "most" pre merit system legends are spammers.

I'll see your DT1 and also suggest I am added as global mod and the root admin.

Not that I am actually saying you should not be a DT1. I mean the entire way of how this seems to work looks like an insiders club.

I would love to see why exactly any person is on DT1 or DT2. What was the criteria they met? What things have they done since being a member here made them eligible?

There should be strict criteria to attaining any position that is meant to mean something.

1294  Other / Meta / Re: Legendary account banned on: December 07, 2018, 02:00:02 AM
Will you stop stalking me. You are very creepy.

Don't flatter yourself. Keep your "legend" whining out of these appeal threads and you won't have to worry about this imaginary "stalking". Let moderators or whoever has evidence reply before making a fool of yourself.

Also stop using my prior art in your avatar because I could have you banned for cpy and paste with far more legitimacy that some that are getting accused of this nonsense.

Put on your Nikes and just do it.

Legends are people here that have achieved HUGE things like busting open huge scams or helping investors find great projects from amongst the junk and scams. Standing up to bullies and scam enablers. These are legends.

Saying so doesn't make it so. You're not looking into any of that, you just see a Legendary title and you start whining how sad it is. Just stay out if you got nothing to say on the actual subject of the ban.

Stop equating merit to anything other than being a tool to hold back bots and spammers.

Exactly the point. These pre-merit "legends" can be egregious spammers (and most are). You can masturbate to their titles in private but when you do it publicly expect to be ridiculed.

Says you whilst busy whacking off over your merits telling yourself "there can be only one" real legend.

"whining" ?  well that thread has been here several hours and you did not come forward and show the guy the evidence until I appear and say that he deserves to see it?  This is whining?? asking for evidence?

I have something to say on the subject - show him why he was banned in detail.  You have shown and I have said it looks bad. I don't expect someone who would copy and paste that bunch of crap to put forth further protest.

LOL "most pre merit legends are spammers " ??  please be serious. The real legends are mostly all pre merit.

Expect ridicule from you?  Please noob stop trying to sound self important again. You could have never have joined and nothing major would be any different. You are helping as you can which I commend and appreciate. Be satisfied with that because some people here have made huge differences and they still don't take your self important tone.

No both serves different purpose and bitcoin can't make bank disappear because old guys depends totally on bank for financial matter but icky some of the teens like me depends on bitcoin for earning so we 1 and 2 people can't make the change. Even bitcoin is not accepted by all government and for transaction to those countries will need bank transfer.

2012 account banned? wow this is an old account.

Very Sad to see another legend get canned.

I am interested to see what happened here.

Will you stop with this nonsense. These are not "legends", they're shitposters who happened to register before the merit system or bought or hacked those accounts.

You said you'll have a plan to solve this... whatever problem you thought needed solving. Where is the plan?

Will you stop stalking me. You are very creepy. Also stop using my prior art in your avatar because I could have you banned for copy and paste with far more legitimacy than some that are getting accused of this nonsense.

Now to address your points.

Merit = nothing but back slapping circle jerk membership, it is an insiders club, of a group of individuals lurking in meta... so to tell me legends are not legends due to not having been in this insiders club hiding in meta for the last year is already laughable.

Legends are people here that have achieved HUGE things like busting open huge scams or helping investors find great projects from amongst the junk and scams. Standing up to bullies and scam enablers. These are legends.

Stop equating merit to anything other than being a tool to hold back bots and spammers.

I do not think it at all unreasonable for a member from 2012 to see exactly which posts got his account banned. This is not nonsense.

If he has done it a few times and this all looks to be financially motivated then sure let's wave him goodbye but let's at least see why he is banned. I don't see any reason he should be ignored after 6 yrs.

All legends/heros deserve to have a review at least to make sure the ban is justified.

We want rid of plagiarist who are ruining the board and are net negative but let's make sure they fit this category.

Having seen the evidence now though  it looks bad for him. Why even copy and paste this junk.

I won't be arguing further for this specific case but what a stupid copy and paste to lose your account over. Can't imagine why such an old member would even copy and paste such a load of rubbish.

Also regarding my idea to stop legends getting banned over this if they are not really net negative was for them (if they are confident) to pay 0.1btc or more depending on the size of their post history to have it reviewed.

I was just trying to figure out the best way to do that.

I guess you could perhaps do something like this.

Let's take a 10k post history account.

0.25btc to run it all through some copy and paste checker against google....whilst the reviewer has a general read of the quality of posts (not in huge detail)

reviewer will then publish his report and receive the 0.25btc  2 weeks later.  If the account exceeds the 1 in 1000 gets banned.

If the account is under the 1 in 1000 then

In that 2 week interval the first (different) person to find additional copy and paste will claim 0.125 btc ( of the 0.25 btc) if 1st reviewer has missed any ensuring first review needs to be accurate.  If they find more than 5 more examples they get the full amount.

This I have not given huge amounts of time to consider and actually I am not an expert at this game theory type stuff so perhaps that can easily be gamed somehow.

So the smarter people here can improve upon this or come up with something much better. This is just a suggestion.

Of course if you are a legend and you know you are not net positive then best not to waste your 0.25 or greater.  Even if you are found to be net positive and below the 1 in 1000 copy and paste you still lose your 0.25 for doing it at all  If you are not willing to pay 0.25btc to keep your legend account you obviously are not too worried about it.

I don't think copy and pasting guides should count. I don't think copy and pasting news in the correct thread or announcements should count. If you are trying to be helpful and the work is obviously not your original work and you were obviously not claiming it was that is not an attempt at plagiarism.

I am not a trouble maker as some have said I just like to see this great forum keep as it was years ago when people could be fair and reasonable. I have only seen 2 cases of unreasonable behaviour toward copy and pasters so it is not like I think none of them should be banned but even 1 person banned for trying to help someone else and for no personal gain is not in the spirit of this board.

To be fair to you (if you are the reporter which I am guessing you must be because you seem to know exactly which posts got them banned) it seems you have no as yet clearly caused anyone innocent to get banned. However to tell me it is nonsense for them to ask for the offending post to be revealed is not at all how it should work.  The evidence should be shown if requested. I mean you could save time if you sent them the offending post when they are banned so they need not come here and claim all their own posts are original.

1298  Other / Meta / Re: Is this forum boring? on: December 05, 2018, 05:34:56 PM
There is a decrease in posting activity though, that seems to bring things down a notch recently.

Think this is expected with the recent price hits. Normally, we get the initial throwing the toys out of the pram, and loads of questions, and panic posts. Then that dies down when these users leave, because "Bitcoin is dead", and we are left with those who are truly into Bitcoin, and don't get too reactionary.

It'll likely be a few quiet months, until there's some major event that influences the price again.

A decrease in posting activity is actually a positive.

The real enthusiasts will return once the bulk of the new people spam posting icos leave.

Before the next huge uptick for btc I hope we can have some junior discussion boards to contain the next wave.

You don't want lots of posts from lots of new people just pushing their 100 bucks investments in multiple icos hoping for moon shots, you are better off having some good threads where you see a concentration of good posters getting together. It is easier to locate potentially good threads and not have them filled with text spun canned replies when there are not huge waves coming in that are purely financially driven and have no interest in trustless decentralised projects.

I don't see any of the great posters still posting that were here before the end of 2017.

Most real enthusiasts will be here posting regardless of current prices.

"Your account is locked because it sat inactive for years after the password hashes were leaked in 2015, and was therefore at high risk of being hacked."

I perfectly understand about what we are talking about. I just want to say that your account will not be dealt with. Since you violated the rules of the forum (paragraph 33 - plagiarism).

Also what you mentioned its not copying, I was quoting it as a reference and I have made my own comment. Please look carefully.

Why didn't you highlight someone else's text and provide a link to the source? Is it possible to discern in your post that the content is not original? No.

33. Posting plagiarized content is not allowed.[e]

33. This includes both copying parts or the entirety of other users' posts or threads and copying content from external sources (e.g. other websites) and passing it as your own.

IMO as long as you can relatively easily discern the fact that the content in question is not original, it should be fine.

Have a look on the comment I have made again.

"Up to 400 MH/s

In this run we've been able to upgrade the Batch Two "Mini" Titan to 200 MH/s, and the "standard" Titan to 400 MH/s, while still keeping power consumption and thermal disturbance as low as possible. We've also made great strides in noise reduction and packaging, aiming for a sturdier product altogether.

It seems that no one said batch one Titan is 400Mh/s too."

I answer someone's question, "Up to 400MH/s"
And then I provide a reference to support my point.
After that I made my own comments again "It seems that no one said batch one Titan is 400Mh/s too."

Anyone with a brain would understand the text "In this run we've been able to upgrade the Batch Two "Mini" Titan to 200 MH/s, and the "standard" Titan to 400 MH/s, while still keeping power consumption and thermal disturbance as low as possible. We've also made great strides in noise reduction and packaging, aiming for a sturdier product altogether." is a reference. Because you can see the wordings "we".

I agree with you. If reading this thread it is quite obvious to anyone this is not plagiarism. Anyone reading that thread in 2014 saying this is plagiarism needs help.

Come on guys be sensible about this. Plagiarists who are just bots or spammers copy and pasting to boost their sigs fair enough get rid. This example back in 2014 obviously not claiming he is releasing titans at 400MHs is certainly not the same thing. It seems insane to believe he was trying to pass this as his original work.

@Xal0lex

Yes I could easily discern that it was not his original work. I would expect 99.9 percent of those on that thread could too.

You can make 6 million dollars for posting your name here so if that is boring then show me somewhere else on the net I can get more excitement.

Yeah I see, you just have to be russian and start an announcement of a new ICO to get rich here

But then they end up picking up soaps in jail  Smiley

No not at all. For just saying "i'm in"

That was all you had to do and boom here is 6 Million bucks.  Well around that I think it was about 290 BTC worth.  For each poster.

Not bad for about 2 seconds work.

Not many places on the net you get such action.

Of course you need to be in the right place at the right time and know when to cash out.
