1201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / COME GET SOME MERIT FOR YOUR GOOD POSTS CONCERNING ALT COINS. on: December 17, 2018, 04:56:03 PM
Hi ALT the board come and get some merit...

Do you deserve some merit for your posts? Or are you mostly all just incapable of making a decent post?

Well I have been telling the top merited individuals here you are not all just a bunch of morons or here to suck every penny out of this board with spam and fake conversations to promote your fav shit ICO.

SO DO YOU WANT SOME MERIT?Huh

Surely there are some posts on this board (previously my fav board)??  or anywhere on inside the ALT section (ANN included)

Now here is how it will work. They (the top merit sources) told me that if I can help locate any posts worthy of merit and they agree then they will give some merit to them. They say it is simply too hard to scan through all the shit most of you blabber on about to find anything good to merit.

So I am determined to bring them some good posts from you guys.

READ EVERYTHING BELOW (WHICH MAY CHANGE AS YOU GUYS TRY AND START TO SCAM ME OR GAME THE ORIGINAL SYSTEM I PUT IN PLACE).

1. Present me with your own high standard posts - post the link and tell me why you think they are good. Do not send me junk.

2. Present me with a post you find (made by someone else) on the alt section that helped you or you thought was very good and tell me how it helped your or  why you think it deserves some merit. Make a good case and boom it could get you merit yourself no shit.

3. ONLY present me with posts of a reasonable standard or I will block you from this thread and put your name on a list of people sending me crap if you send me more than 2 very poor quality posts.

4. Check this OP and the post below to make sure that I have not already had that exact post submitted. (so press cntrol + F) then input the entire url in and see if has been already suggested). Do not submit posts that have already been submitted before.

NOW - 2 things will happen.

1. If the post is good and deserves merit (according to me and the top merit sources) it will get merit.

2. If you submit  good posts (that merit sources agree with) and put a very good detailed reason why it should have merit then you will be given some merit. I will give people finding good posts some of my merit until it runs out but it will run out in time.

Some important notes.

1. don't spam me with crap posts - 2 crap posts and you are going to be kicked off this thread.

2. don't be impatient it will take a few days sometimes for your posts to be reviewed by a merit source. However if they are good (my opinion I will list them up in the review section - I will be very open minded and generous but merit sources will have to give the merits out)

Over time I would like to give some criteria for what is a good post but for now I will let you guys tell me what is good about the post and how it helped you or how you think it helped others.

Do not try and get merit here if you are not a real enthusiast of bitcoin or altcoin projects. If you are just a financially motivated spammer don't post on this thread. Actually just don't post.

It can take me some time to keep up with this so don't get impatient if I don't update your suggestions immediately.

This thread is to help those good posters who are posting here but getting hidden by a ton of spammers and scammers.
Come on guys I know there is some real enthusiasts and good posters in this forum. It was once one of the very best sections here.

You are free to discuss what you think about merit here, or any great posts but make effort and construct a nice useful post. Even that may get you some merit.

Do you think this thread is a good idea or do you think it can be abused. Let me know with a good explanation.

1202  Other / Meta / Re: My account rickadone was banned on: December 17, 2018, 04:30:01 PM
There should be different kinds of punishments ranging from limitations, monthly bans to longer or perma bans.

There are temp bans for other violations.

one mistake you are gone

Copypasta is not a mistake, it's a deliberate action with the purpose of scamming whatever bounty campaign they're scamming and spamming the forum with useless tripe.

This excuse of hiring someone to copy-paste is also getting old. It doesn't make it any better even if it's true. If someone is not willing or able to post on the forum they should not post on the forum.

So how about we first acknowledge the severity of the issue instead of trying to whitewash it. Then we can try to formulate suggestions to theymos as to whether different penalties should be implemented. But as of now there is no option for a signature removal so plagiarizers need to accept the risk of a permaban and weigh it against the pittance they're getting for their spam.

Never whitewash anything just take into account context and prior contribution to make the optimal decision.
If you are wanting a net gain for the forum then we need to consider the value they are now as more important than what they once were (2016) too. People can make a poor start or encounter poor periods but pull through to be net positive in a big way.
This of course would need to be met at their own expense. (the review)
I'm certain any legend being banned for even 3 months would be much more careful and some may care about their sigs too. I would say legends can afford to have them removed for a good year and not create too much fuss if they are real enthusiasts here.
1203  Other / Meta / Re: Top 200 Merit Receivers without Merit from the Top 200 Merit Receivers on: December 17, 2018, 04:08:26 PM
Very nice statistics from LoyceV once again but what happened to the forum nowadays, it seems that there are so many jealous people with members who got their hundreds of merit from the meta thread since the inception of the new system.

What happened is simple. Look at the stats. 0.13% of the users are cycling it between them because if you remove that and one tiny board their scores dump by 80%. That is not an expected figure in a system where there is anything like a balanced objective system.

It actually leads to people within that group stating it is foolish to assume some of the remaining 99.87% of users can make posts as good or better than some of the 0.13% of users. This can lead to bookmarking post histories of fav posters and spattering them with merit compounding the skewing of these scores.

Now as I have said over 10x already this is not a huge issue so long as no weight is attributed to merit scores and to use those scores as if they are scores based on objective and fair assessment of all posts against strict criteria.  Merit is useful for preventing some spammers if you leverage it in the correct way. It is a fun way to reward posts you think are good that you choose to view. Best not to draw any other conclusions from a merit score.

Now to make it simple

Is someone with 500 earned merits going to be a better poster than one who has earned 5 merits? No that is not an assumption you can make and I am not even sure if there is a super high probability of that being true either. If that 5 merit poster had earned his 5 from 5 different sources on the alt discussion board and the 500 earned it all on meta from inside the 0.13% then I would not even as a gambling person want to bet on the 500 merits guy if the decision was made by someone who reviewed all posts against some objective criteria that was proven valuable to the board.

I have been ready to let the issue drop for quite some time but every time I see people either raising it again with fresh excuses or some strange logic claiming it would be strange it the stats were any other way then it all has to come up again.

The problem is really that the top merit hoarders are hoping somehow to becoming merit sources, DT members and MODs. This is leading to a centralised power here that should be prevented before it goes to far. Already they are close to such a goal.

If you are to have a centralised power that can crush people with Neg DT or ban them or hold them back through the merit system. Then you best hope the entire merit system is redone with objective criteria so that only the people most suitable will end up in positions to control behaviour and opinion here.

1204  Other / Meta / Re: Top 200 Merit receivers without Merit from the Top 200 Merit receivers on: December 17, 2018, 03:51:27 PM
As I said before remove the top 300 (circle and those desperate to enter the circle) and the circlers fav sub board meta board and you will see people lose average of 80% or greater some over 90%.

So remove all the merit sources, and remove one of the least spammy boards, and people will have less merit. I'm not sure why you think this is some big scandal or conspiracy.

Incidentally, if you take r1s2g3's data, sum the "Total Merit" column, sum the "Merits in Meta" column, divide the two and multiply by 100, the result is 26.9%. Even if you remove the 50 profiles who have earned zero merits in meta, the number is still only 33.9%.

So like if a bank made an error and took like 90% of your money away you would simply say you have less? you mean practically took all of your money right??

So to put your statement in more precise terms.

Remove only 0.13% of the boards users merits  and one tiny sub board with a tiny fraction of the forums posters (not posts) and that same 0.13% have "less" LOL less like a couple of percent or maybe 10% ......I think you meant to say their merits are crushed to a tiny tiny fraction of what they had previously been allowed to award themselves.

@ suchmoon

actually was locye who prefers to accept merits for the same data set actually
You saw the same data and did not merit either but now have as I said.

a DT will probably check the message and flag it until you get back in control of it
1206  Other / Meta / Re: My account rickadone was banned on: December 17, 2018, 12:58:20 PM
Strong punishment but again who knows how many times has he done it. He stole content to make himself look better and gain advantage in ranking.
There are a plenty of members making low quality posts so expect harsh penaltys.

I think his main problem will be it was financially motivated as opposed to posting news from reddit for discussion or a guide for a noob or just information someone asked for  when there was no financial incentive only helping or bringing news/information. It is the context that I think Theymos is interested in.

Sadly though of recent times his posts are very good and I would give him a pass on the basis that for years he has perhaps been a good poster and I don't think that should be excluded from the decision. After all we want the board to gain from people being here and I think the board gains from him being here in his current state of posting. (that is if he is not copy and pasting lately which could only really be discovered from a paid per review and analysis I guess because nobody will donate that much time for free)

For me a 6 month - 1 year sig ban would be enough for this one with zero tolerance after. Of course I have no say so that is merely a suggestion that is not probably going to happen unless Theymos says so.

I hope though that we can have a measure of punishment and not just a 1 punishment covers all kind of thing because context is important but they must still have a bit of a punishment.
1207  Other / Meta / Re: My account rickadone was banned on: December 17, 2018, 12:40:00 PM
<…>I thought the account is locked when they are banned? they can not edit after this point right?
How do we know anyone has not edited or deleted posts before they are banned.<…>
As far as I can recall, a banned account is not locked, so it is still possible to log into the account but not create, move, alter posts, nor send PMs from the account.

People can edit or delete (not all, depending on the board) their posts before they are banned, so if they “feel” they are in the process of being caught plagiarizing or whatnot, they could alter the evidences. That is why some people quote the plagiarized post and/or archive them to an external site for reference. Nevertheless, I figure internally there is some way to track these changes on the live DB (admins/mods?).

Yes this is how I thought it worked. So if someone is banned then it is impossible for them to at that point go back and edit things.

The fact they can do anything they want before being banned ( i suspect most of these that got a plagiarised post spotted since 2015 or whatever were not expecting anything like that) goes for anyone on the entire board.

I don't expect most people as yet realise there is a huge effort to find any copy and paste and ban them or some persons will just hammer delete on their entire post histories to make sure.
1208  Other / Meta / Re: Top 200 Merit Receivers without Merit from the Top 200 Merit Receivers on: December 17, 2018, 12:17:03 PM
Loyce v can be affiliated in giving some mountainous task analysis and statistics he/she is a well constructed individual in terms of making a post well another close rival is @Ddmr Ddmr.

This peace of information is quite relevant and could have been impossible to others but not @loyce v

This data was compiled first by r1s2g3 about a month ago.

But yes loyce seems to be good at stats too.
1209  Other / Meta / Re: My account rickadone was banned on: December 17, 2018, 12:01:24 PM
Legendary accounts really requires a lot of time, dedication and efforts to build it's such a pity you lost yours well it's always important for us to know that no one is above the rules and regulations in this forum

this is true nobody would be above a ratio of 1 in 1000 and review to analyse for net positive.

1210  Other / Meta / Re: Top 200 Merit receivers without Merit from the Top 200 Merit receivers on: December 17, 2018, 11:54:10 AM
Excellent statistics, as usual. I will bookmark this thread and send merit when I have one.
I think someone is still hungry, can you create the same statistics for Meta? How many merits top 200/500 merit receivers have received in Meta  Roll Eyes

You can see this data in this sheet

I will say everybody has his own area of contributions and gaining merit in Meta does not make it circle. Analyze the data, you will find few user received 0 merits or very few merits in Meta but their merit are coming from other single subboard. (like WO thread)

@LoyceV, Though I was first to attempt this statistics but I will be never able to match you in presenting the data.

Thanks for posting the top 50 exclusion list. That's the first time I have got ahead of TMAN in a long time. Smiley
You was ahead of TMAN in below list too.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5067161.msg47783837#msg47783837

select u1.toid,sum(u1.merit) from Meritdata u1 ,(select m.toid,sum(m.Merit) summerit from Meritdata m group by m.toid order by sum(m.merit) desc limit 200)A  where u1.toid=A.toid and u1.subboard !='Meta' group by u1.toid;

Disclaimer: Special thanks  to Piggy for creating this tool which I used in this analysis.

Well you were first to pull these stats at my request yes. Did you get any merit for doing it? Well except from me?  I have presented your data about 8x and that never got any merits. Even though one person who was asked to present a post worthy of merit to produced this post containing your stats to suchmoon and  he said no to meriting it previously.

Now that loyce presents the same data set but does not output it so usefully (not at the time he got the merits)  and ties it wrongly to my statements without fulfilling my full criteria so to play to his own agenda that somehow I was incorrect in my estimates he gets merit and guess who from. I see suchmoon and foxpup again giving very generously. I mean not that the post does not deserve merit but you notice that the data set you provided in a more useful manner got nothing (except from myself). Actually you did it very quickly but loyce told me it will take him hours and that is why he did not want to do it initially.

This thread does nothing more than add weight to my statement that the same data set even on this tiny board presented in a less useful way will get more merits if presented by one of the circle.

As I said before remove the top 300 (circle and those desperate to enter the circle) and the circlers fav sub board meta board and you will see people lose average of 80% or greater some over 90%. This seems to be very near the mark as I predicted.

I am thinking of compiling a list of legends and heros that may have a chance of reinstatement who seemed net positive when banned.

Just reading a few of your posts I gained some interesting knowledge so it's a shame you are being cut off from the board at this time.

Theymos is very clear on plagiarism ban so your effort of creating list will go on vain. Even if you find 2-3 plagiarized post but how do you know that user has not deleted the earlier plagiarized posts? How can you be sure that current post will not be text spinned  and paraphrased from outside the forum(or post from other forum member)?

Most tough is to catch local poster, who translate their local language (post of other/or other sites) and post in English with para phrasing.

PS:  Real legendary already left this forum. Can you bring him/her back?

Edit:

2. By January 2015 when I was heavily sick and was into crypto-games campaign, for the reason of not missing out the slot, I decided to BUY POSTS from one of my old colleague. (He voluntarily asked me to give posts as he was aware of I was into BTT camp and not in position to write posts).
3. I bought some 20 posts from him but used less than 5, other posts were written by my wife (when I was sick). I guess all those 5 posts were plagiarized.
Post was plagiarized on Jan 2016 , so it does not look like your friends fault who has written for you in 2015.

4. I lost my job in late 2016 but managed my life's need just from the earning from my beloved bitsler campaign. But do not know how to lead a life now, feeling like committing suicide for the situation I am facing right now.

No idea, what to say , You are not able to find any job or  meaningful employment  for last 2 year? I will just wish you good luck in finding good job soon.

Well hold on.

I thought the account is locked when they are banned? they can not edit after this point right?
How do we know anyone has not edited or deleted posts before they are banned.

Theymos is clear yes from what I can see he does not want to get rid of net positive members and only those that are net negative.
Read this guys recent posts he seems a very good poster.

Anyway sad to see another legend get deleted from the board.

Kindly let me know the reason on which my account got banned.

I have looked over your account and you do NOT look like a shitposter.

Why did you copy and paste this nonsense because a lot of your posts look of a reasonable standard.

Being honest do you think you have done this more than one time or at max 3 times in your entire post history?

Did you buy this account recently ? or have you owned it from the start?

I would like to hear your side of it even if your ban is not reversed at all.

Your account looks net positive to me and a shame to see you banned. In the future it "may" be possible at one point to pay for comprehensive review of your posts and see if there is more and a certain ratio of copy and paste in there and get perhaps a far lesser punishment like sig ban for 6 months and final warning with zero tolerance copy and paste.

That is just a suggestion right now and not a reality so I'm just interested after over 3k quite significant and long posts were there just a couple of slip ups like this or is it going to be riddled with them?

Why do it at all this part of the copy and paste seems completely junk compared to some of your posts (that I hope are original)

Right now you probably have no chance of a review but I am thinking of compiling a list of legends and heros that may have a chance of reinstatement who seemed net positive when banned.

Just reading a few of your posts I gained some interesting knowledge so it's a shame you are being cut off from the board at this time.

And if someone wants to dig into it... the merit history is quite interesting - copious amounts for deleted posts:

https://bpip.org/smerit.aspx?to=RuSS512

I suppose it would be optimal that when the user himself deletes his comments with merit, then merit should be destroyed also.
Then merit buyers will not be able to delete posts with a zero value for erasing traces and save merit at the same time.

This makes sense.. how can the post be of value to the board if it is deleted. Then again merited threads would not be able to be edited at all if you want to prevent them hiding what it was that was merited.

1214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Blacknet | IBO for BlackCoin | New code | PoS | No ICO on: December 16, 2018, 05:46:02 PM
People don't seem so eager to burn their BLK for an unknown token..
only 13m out of 64m burned - https://ibo.laboratorium.ee   Roll Eyes

Nor should they be. I think everybody making a decision whether to burn or not is fully aware of the risk that they may not get anything in return for burning BLK.  Based on that, I think 13mil burned out of 77mil (16.8% @ $500K USD current value) shows extraordinary confidence in either an idea, a person, or a project.  It’s a much safer proposition to wait until the product is completed and working in order to participate in acquiring tokens.

I can’t say I don’t feel some uneasiness about the BLK I’ve burned.

Well this is true but I am not too concerned really. Rat4 made pos3 that 99% of pos coins copy and pasted adopted so if there will be another good advance in POS then I would take my chances with Rat4 than the vast majority of other devs here.

I burned most of mine. Blackcoin will always be copied and pasted now and did not have the network effect to be able to withstand this like bitcoin could. Blacknet will not make this mistake.

Also what do you mean? all talk and no walk. In regards to what exactly?

In regards to your response to pretty much anything that would require you to expend any effort, even if it's as simple as reading something:

Anyway I have not had time

I wish I had time to do that or had the motivation

Yet you always find time for walls of text and attacking others for not responding to you quickly enough. All talk, no walk.

I mean I have asked you to provide me any argument or reason why you think introducing such a system would not improve things. I know I rarely get an answer to questions from you... but have a think about it and if you can think of a reason why you would like to keep hunting around for negative things to report rather than spending all of your effort looking for positive things to reward whilst also leveraging merit not just to rid the boards of spammers but also to rid them of the biggest plague of "not quite spammy enough to be banned/deleted but still nowhere near the level to be considered net positive" it is the contamination of those that are driving out the good posters equally as much as the pure spammers which can be deleted eventually.

Since you haven't provided any tangible details of such a system - what exactly do you expect me to say?

Those posts already don't get merits. That doesn't stop them. In the short term and using the current tools they need to be reported and deleted. In the long term bounty campaigns need to be reigned in and/or the incentive for such posts needs to be diminished. Sorting ANN topics may solve the problem of shitty bumps. Alt discussion may need a different fix but until someone comes up with that there is no excuse for not reporting those shitposts. That is if anyone cares.

well those "not having time" were for tasks that I had no real interest in completing since it was lacking incentive. I already knew what the results would be within a small margin, and the task had already been completed in the link I had posted ...to the same degree as it has now. In life it is best to allocate time to tasks that reap the biggest rewards.

It is not really essential to stop them joining the board we just need to prevent net negative users driving out net positive users through dilution. They will not reach the senior boards. I guess eventually accounts trapped on the junior boards (where sigs are not allowed) will not even have fake conversation fake support value so will become entirely worthless so should fade away over time. To prevent them joining is impossible there just needs to be no easy path to monetizing the board without putting in a lot of effort in a positive way.

Trying to delete them once they are in contact with net positive users is not going to work because there will always be more scammers who are more motivated than there will be reporters. I mean even if a lot get deleted eventually the thread is normally is already dead by then or pushed to page 10. Prevention is better than cure.

This is me when I worked 2 hours on a topic which didn't even get 1 message or not even noticed by anyone.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEtorWba_Fg [Play with sound]

Well, I did find it quite interesting and I think your English is rather good. Good for making an effort and considering making a comparison with alexa.

Now what can we say about this

1. is alexa way off
2. are lots of people using proxies where are the russians on alexa?
3. i mean people living in say the US may not have english as their first language so use local boards

I am shocked  that there are not more from japan where it is getting the widest adoption and most accepted.

I know that this is not strictly for meta but I don't think it is entirely out of place here. I don't have much or perhaps I would have given you a bit more merit than just 2. But you're on your way now.

1217  Other / Meta / Re: Help Me,Please on: December 15, 2018, 03:59:26 PM
This one is really funny because the OP quoted Danglen and then "responded" with the exact same words. Maybe the OP was trying to be a parrot.

And really sad as well that obvious rule breakers would start threads appealing their bans, when they never bothered to check the rules, ir deliberately ignored the forum guidelines.
And make other users run another search on their posts looking for the reason.
It just hits another mark in the pliagarism bingo.

I think the 1st example suchmoon presented was some type of copy/paste error. However, the second example changed a few words around. The fact that the OP decided to spin the text demonstrates to me that he knew that outright copy/paste was wrong and either was trying to cover it up or somehow thought and the ideas and words became his just because it is slightly different.

Agree with this. It is unthinkable he was trying to pass it as his own work I mean you could argue his post contains the source as reference if people did not just read the other post 1 second before.

But no hope for the other one. I doubt you will hear anything more from him.
1218  Other / Meta / Re: Top 200 Merit receivers without Merit from the Top 200 Merit receivers on: December 15, 2018, 03:54:10 PM
Just try to be more positive.

I'm positive that you're all talk no walk.

I would rather ask you now to tell me some valid reason to not discuss the ideas I have just proposed. I mean list now some possible flaws/disadvantages compared to the system we have now. I am sure there are probably some good ones else Theymos will have implemented this by now. I would expect he is probably quite well versed in game theory and things that can seem a great idea to a someone who is not may have actually suggested something with gaping holes and leave the board open for greater exploitation than it is open to now.

Did you even read the thread I linked to? There is a huge list of ideas started by hilarious and commented on by theymos. Some have been implemented (1 merit requirement for juniors), some are in the process of refinement (alt ANN sorting). If you really want to help the forum you should start learning how it works and what has already been suggested, accepted, or rejected. You'd learn for example that theymos is dead set against newbie jail like you're suggesting. But if you find a way to reign in bounty campaigns while keeping everything extremely libertarian - you'll be the senior legendary hero of the forum.

Changes here are very slow and you're not helping at all by throwing around random "solutions" to problems that you can't even prove exist, while refusing to use existing possibly imperfect tools.

That wasn't the kind of positive that I was hoping for.
Also what do you mean? all talk and no walk. In regards to what exactly?
I have taken plenty of affirmative action on this board to reveal and damage even huge scams. Probably because you were hiding away here in meta whilst people like me were outing huge scams and battling face to face with scammers and scam enablers while you just hide in meta reporting them to people that take the action for you. You probably missed all of that.

Anyway I have not had time actually to read all of the thread you posted. I noted a couple of points on that thread and they were Theymos grouped ideas into 3 categories on the first page ( i presume to save people time resuggesting things that had been suggested and decisions made or preliminary decisions made) even the No category is a NO not yet. Inside that category I notice 1 merit for making junior. This I believe is now in action?

I don't notice anything about junior boards (similar to noob jail) in those categories. He may have mentioned it else where. I can see why the old version of noob jail can not return because that was centralised and be far to much work. This proposal is simply leveraging merit to be a more powerful tool. I mean he has a lot on his mind and is busy with other things in life. I am certain if it was proven to his satisfaction that would be a net positive above what we have now after deep analysis and debate he may give it another look over.

1./ saying it works is not the same as demonstrating it does work optimally or even near optimally.

I have said myself the merit system works in some ways. That does not mean we can not improve and leverage merit to be a far more useful tool in several ways and more balanced system.

One improvement could be for you to stop hoarding those unicorns.

I can think of a few other improvements too, like actually using the tools already available while we wait for theymos to implement changes, which could take years. I'm truly amazed at your ability to find so many things that are wrong while excusing yourself from any actual effort. How about some balance here too.

Just try to be more positive.

Theymos has actually said there is no harm in discussing new techniques and ideas to implement. I mean this is meta right?. I have no idea why you are so negative about things. Saying a car from the 1990's can be improved upon and even suggesting sensible methods of improvement and possible advantages is not negative or simply finding problems as you are trying to suggest.

You have proven previously with statements that you refuse to accept are ludicrous  that you are not a person whom I would really care to to try to reach a sensible and well reasoned solution that was anywhere near optimal. Not in the state you are currently operating. You need be more open minded. Contain yourself to making accusations and statements you have thoroughly thought through and can answer questions on rather than ignore or pretend you did not say and also not get aggressive when you are tired out.

I sometimes think it is better to spend time discussing and perhaps contributing to make larger changes that will once implemented could save a lot of effort that is being spent now. That we are not approaching improving things for the board in the same way does not make either one less valid.

I mean I notice you said in the 2.5 Million users thread that you hope it took another 25 years for the next 2.5M to join. Now I understood what you meant by that but I think if we put systems in place to filter the net negatives out or hold them in sub boards away from contaminating the net positives then we can deal with a far greater number of new users without needing to expend so much effort (which i admit you are putting in). We just need to make sure the huge influx of new financially motivated posters who don't care about anything except gaining money are held contained with only those of their own kind where they can do little to no damage.

1220  Other / Meta / Re: Top 200 Merit receivers without Merit from the Top 200 Merit receivers on: December 15, 2018, 12:12:32 AM
a system where you would search for positive things and reward them. I feel you would have a better chance of preventing spam reaching the main boards with that system than removing it once it is there.

The system is called merit and it works except for a few knuckleheads who think it's for "fun and friends".

Yet shitposts still need to be removed. Those are not mutually exclusive things.

I mean if you reported every low quality post in alt discussion it would be quite a nightmare because some are not exactly low quality enough to be spam but on the other hand many parrot the same message over and over in a slightly different way. I mean deleting them is kind of cruel because to some they may have made some effort to express themselves and to get it deleted could be genuinely like a smack in the face.

No, it's not cruel. Parroting is not a universal human right. If you're still on a mission to improve merit awards in Alts this is the course of action you should take. Clean that shit up. Stop being butthurt about merits in Meta. Those merits are not the reason why shitcoiners don't get merited.

I sense agitation and stress rising. Take those meds and relax before continuing to contribute to this sensible discussion. I don't want you to start blurting out any more ludicrous statements as you do tend to at this time of day. Perhaps have a lay down. I see several unsubstantiated statements and more aggressive language starting to leak out. You are better than that suchmoon.

Now

1./ saying it works is not the same as demonstrating it does work optimally or even near optimally.

I have said myself the merit system works in some ways. That does not mean we can not improve and leverage merit to be a far more useful tool in several ways and more balanced system.

I think those that are unwilling or strongly against analysing a current system and how it operates with a view to improve it are those that generally fear optimisation  could lead to it being less beneficial for themselves.

@o_e_l_e_o

I agree with you and many good posters  have stopped posting there for exactly that reason.

A ban of sigs in alt discussion is a great idea and would deal with a lot of them. However my suspicion is that icos have teams of users creating fake conversations about their projects and they could still exist without sigs cos they are on the payroll behind the scenes. I think they would ramp this up if the swarms of sig spammers were eliminated. However they are hard to ban or delete because although most of their posts are lowish quality certainly not many are good enough to get merit they can stay above certain spam levels.

Honestly though to me your post looks worthy of merit it displays technical knowledge, the effort to examine the code and the effort to warn others of this implication for their investments. Hence potentially saving those getting burned by another scam leaving crypto and bad mouthing it to others. I mean honestly these are the posts that require merit no question. I am running out and I don't know when more arrives to top it up else I would have given you more. I can only hope the merit sources here with lots can give some to that post.

I think alt discussion needs the most help and immediately because some great alt board only posters may still be checking now and again if we leave it to long they may not come back. I think it would be great to ban sigs on that forum until we could set up junior boards and dump everyone on there under 15 merit ... let them earn their way back to the senior boards and arm mods with demerit powers to send them straight back for junk posts that are not worthy of bans but will make them think twice before being cast back into the swamp.
