1741  Economy / Economics / Re: Rebuttal: Rich Mindset vs Poor Mindset on: September 12, 2022, 02:45:54 PM
The only peculiarity is that the rich have money and privileges, which is why it seems as if they know and do better. Many poor people are better than the rich in terms of many things but are only fortunate that they are poor, especially when they find themselves in a very bad country.
I wouldn't want to pick each point and respond to them individually, but they all have a lot of generalization. You can't lump up the rich or poor into any character description or mindset. They all have individuals in both brackets which are on opposite ends of different spectrums;
• There are bums, who were born into wealth and built on privilege,
• There are people who were not and created wealth for themselves,
• There are yet those who were born into wealth and worked had to expand on that, with the privileges available to them,
• There are also those who were not privileged and did not develop a winning mentality and remained in an unfavorable situation.
Saying "many" poor people are better than the rich is also a hasty generalization. What constitutes "better" and how does one's financial situation make them better than the other?

While some lucky ones still find their way to the top, and some rich people become poor due to mismanagement.
Getting rich is not luck, or is barely 5% luck. There are lots of mindset and character factors that go into play. We shouldn't downplay that, to try to make some demographic or ourselves feel better.

First change in years, that wasn't an April fool's prank of course. And a good one too, not the most pressing change I would expect, but still shows some bit of improvements in layout. Great job PowerGlove creating the scripts.

I guess the BPIP extension changes it for you.
Most likely.
I've checked on different browsers and also on mobile and PC, still has the same layout as you indicated.
1743  Other / Meta / Re: Trade Feedback vs Non Trade Feedback on: September 12, 2022, 08:30:24 AM
Trust feedbacks are primarily used for trade related reasons, so making a distinction doesn't seem necessary.
Before trust flags, there were some ambiguity about what requires a feedback and what doesn't, but theymos cleared this up when creating flags;
Use-case #1 is the old trust system, but I made the descriptions on the rating types a bit more general and removed the concept of a trust score. The numbers are now "distinct positive raters / distinct neutral raters / distinct negative raters". You should give these ratings for anything which you think would impact someone's willingness to trade with the person, but you should not use trust ratings to attack a person's opinions or otherwise talk about things which would not be relevant to reasonable prospective traders.
Use case #1 above, was 'getting a general idea of someone's trade history and trustworthiness".
Imo, trade doesn't have to be a exchange of goods or currency, purchasing a service and getting it delivered on time and as expected, great communication during the process is also added in.

A non trade option doesn't quite fit into the feedback system.
1744  Other / Archival / Re: Mods are constantly trying to put the thread in the altcoin section on: September 11, 2022, 06:58:17 PM
Could be the title 'yield', which is linked to DeFi and altcoin investment, but even that is not a reason enough to classify the thread as an altcoin discussion.
It seems a perfect fit for Beginners & Help board
1745  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: questions on trust wallet and crypto credit cards? on: September 11, 2022, 06:46:09 PM
1. if buy a new phone and install trust wallet,  memorize the phrases, receive some tethers and then stop using the phone for good until a future time:  is there any chance of your trust wallet getting hacked?
No. But, you would more easily forget the phrase as human memory is not reliable as a back up, much less as the only means of access.
The fact that it's sometimes called a mnemonic phrase does not mean you should attempt memorizing it. Always use a form of offline backup(s).

2. do people keep millions worth of crypto in trust wallet?
Crypto are stored on the blockchain, wallets only allow you access it through your private keys.
Preferably bitcoins worth above $1k should be stored in a hardware wallet or airgapped device.

3. any chance of your trust wallet account getting frozen like they might do on exchanges?
On a custodian wallet, the risk for this is very present and high. Trust wallet is non custodian, so not likely. But, it's not recommended cause it's closed source.
1746  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cold storage and using USB to transfer files without malware or viruses? on: September 11, 2022, 06:22:06 PM
My question is, should I ever use a USB on this laptop again or is there a risk of transferring viruses?
There is a risk and I would advice you do not use a USD or drive on the laptop, to keep it completely airgapped.

My other question is, will I ever need to have to transfer anything to the cold storage laptop again after installing electrum? What about the offline signing to send transactions?
You wouldn't need to transfer anything. All you need is to copy the unsigned raw transaction and send that to the air gapped pc. You can also scan the tx qrcode to get the transaction.

The laptop does have a camera on it and its an old windows xp laptop, will I be able to use that camera to read QR codes for offline signing? If so, should I also install software to make sure that feature works?
AFAIK, it should work alright without you needing to get any other software. Other members could drop that input on that.
1747  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Bitcoin changed my life on: September 11, 2022, 06:16:33 PM
And I started Bitcoin investment in the month of October 2017 when the price of Bitcoin was $6,468, were I invested $10,000 all the money I saved from my delivery job in Bitcoin investment and hold for like 3 years before I released my bitcoins to the market in the month of  December 2020 during the Christmas period when the price of Bitcoin increased to $23,400 that helped me to achieved massive incomes from my Bitcoin investment that changed my life in the society.
You saved up $10,000 on a salary or $3,600 per year and invested all that, while quiting your job and working on nothing for the next 3 years?
Also, why wait for 3 years to sell at a profit, when you could have sold few months after October, 2017 at more than 3 times you bought at? You waited 3 years to sell at roughly the same amount you would have gotten in 2 months (and possibly reinvested), and then sold at the very beginning of the next bull run.

2) Opportunity: Try to embrace genuine opportunity that will change your life in future, like what I did to eliminated poverty in my family by embraced Bitcoin investment to quit my delivery job that changed me in the society.
For someone who could save up $10k, $23k is hardly life changing.
1748  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some Limitations of Bitcointalk Members from Developing Countries on: September 11, 2022, 05:44:53 PM
Majority of those struggles are not limited to any part of the world and affects pkeple all over, depending on your social status, income, neighborhood etc.

And I would gladly ask members to give suggestions on how I can limit these challenges.

-   Epileptic power supply:

-   Poor Internet Supply:

-   High Crime Rate:

-   Unexposed and corrupt law enforcement agencies:

-   High Rate of Unemployment:
• Purchase phones with battery capacity as a priority and maybe try to get a portable power bank. You can also patronize some road side charging ports
• 4G phones are quite popular now, and depending on where you're from gives good network coverage.
• Take safety precautions; no late nights, be cautious of your environment always, if possible, do not go out with your devices.
• This is one of the most striking problems and is difficult to solve, considering they are the enforcers of the law and corruption at that level would negatively affect the populace.
• Get a degree. Build skills and network

You've not said why you're using bitcoin in public to attract the attention of enforcement teams, maybe you should stop using something quite so explicit around them if you can.
You do not necessarily have to use it publicly. As someone from a developing/underdeveloped nation with high rate of corruption, law enforcement agencies can request to search one (especially young males) in the guise of suspicion of fraud and demand that you unlock your phones and other gadgets with you, this is when any Bitcoin related app can be discovered and linked to fraudulent activities without any evidence whatsoever.
1749  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Twitter Criticize Apompliano for removing laser eyes on: September 10, 2022, 01:18:12 PM
Pomp, Elon Musk, anyone at all is allowed to have their opinion about Bitcoin and change that opinion for whatever reason they seem fit.
For Pomp, it could be a change market cycles, for Elon, a faux interest in saving the environment and so on and so on.
No one should build their opinion off what someone else tweets or says, just DYOR -Do Your Own Research.

The mistake of investing into cryptocurrency because of the false predictions from influencers shouldn't be overlooked. I'm sure they get depressed easily due to the person whose advise they follow ain't following the same advise he's giving out.
Anyone who can't take our the time to do their research on whatever they wish to put their money into, would one way or the other lose their money.

It even has free beer.
I've been missing out all this time
1750  Other / Meta / Re: What's minor thing that you find appreciative on Bitcointalk? on: September 09, 2022, 08:39:03 PM
I thought that you were talking about forums in general as that's what the posts you quoted were about. Unless I completely misunderstood them.
Could have been I who misunderstood that post, but it doesn't matter now as I understood what your reply was about better.

I don't think that there is any other crypto forum that is active enough for advertisers to start signature campaign. Afaik altcointalk also has signatures but I don't think that there is anyone running singnature campaign that pays in bitcoin.
Most of the newer forums are more interested in replicating bitcointalk, than actually being a place for constructive discussions, hence they start off by using incentives to get people to use their platform, attracting spammers looking for a quick buck in the process.
1751  Other / Meta / Re: What's minor thing that you find appreciative on Bitcointalk? on: September 09, 2022, 08:16:56 PM
Question still remains how come no other old&reputable forums (at least none that I am active on)  never tried with signature & avatar campaigns. One of the reasons could be how exactly to pay the people (and to remain anonymous), and bitcoin proved to be perfect for that.
I was referring to crypto forums in particular. If those forums were crypto inclined, they would have never needed to worry about how projects can pay participants anonymously, as they would understand how Bitcoin works.

I am not as frequent on different forums, so there could be some reputable crypto inclined ones which have enough traffic to monetize it somehow, but choose no to through sigs or avatars. I was speaking on my personal observation.
1752  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can We Derive Hope From Progress And People Becoming Smarter Over Time on: September 09, 2022, 03:56:52 PM
Processing greater amounts of raw data being a necessity in a modern world. It is possible that the trend will drive human evolution in a way that forces us to use our brains more. The long term effects of which could lead to modern people being better equipped to solve problems using raw cognition in contrast to our predecessors of past eras.
A counter argument could be that, the modern world involves use of computers and devices, many of which does most of the critical thinking for us, making people need to do less and hence process less amounts of information independently.
Simple tasks like typing is now heavily promoted by text predictors, which only requires the individual to enter the first 2 or 3 letters they associate to that word and it would take it from there, this has been linked to reduced ability to recognize spellings and word structure in some.

The era of search engines also means people retain less and consult Google at the slightest inquiry, as opposed to before, when learning was more practical.

This improved technology is of course a positive as it makes learning significantly easier and automated but the ease of it all could make the newer generation lazier overtime.
1753  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin telegram on: September 09, 2022, 03:46:38 PM
Be careful of telegram groups. Avoid personal messages, if anyone send you PM, they only want to scam you.
The user should be especially careful of this.
Honest questions like this usually attracts scammers into the inbox of the user, luring them with an offer tailored for their needs in order to scam them.

Telegram as a whole should not be used for credible information except you are knowledgeable to a reasonable extent about the Bitcoin and how things work

I hate to break it to you, but you are a spammer!
117 now, which is about 5% of OPs over 2000 posts made since they joined the forum. The OP might very well be a spammer and also has bad command of the English language and are in a campaign, which means they have to meet a weekly post quota.

Because not so many of them are low quality post why some of them that is deleted is not low quality as you people emphasizing. I will agree with you probably that some of my posts are low quality because the suggestion of people here, but me that is putting them on writing dont know that they are low quality, because I'm just making my view
Your view can be inaccurate, not understandable and misleading. Doesn't change the fact that it's yours and doesn't change the fact that it's spam to the rest of the community.
Try doing a bit more reading before replying to a thread or starting one. Also, try not to reply if you do not fully understand the discussion.
Put in some effort!
1755  Other / Meta / Re: What's minor thing that you find appreciative on Bitcointalk? on: September 07, 2022, 05:38:31 PM
I've often wondered why other discussion forums don't adopt that model, even if it's just for traffic.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's because other forums consider spam as a problem to be solved,
I'll go one further and say it's most likely because businesses and brands are only willing to pay for posts if the forum it's made on is a reputable one. I have been on forums which tried to recreate the signature and avatar design on the forum to build traffic, but discussions cannot be built on that, rather there needs to be an existing discussion platform, before that traffic can be monetized in any way.

Also, majority of forums out there do not actually care for preventing spam, many have even encouraged spam here; remember Yobit
1756  Other / Archival / Re: "If you don't understand where the yield is coming from, you are the yield." on: September 07, 2022, 05:20:27 PM
How is a newbie supposed to know this is all fake if they don't understand the code and how it is a exact copy of bitcoin?
Understandably, it is not always easy to detect such situations. But I would separate technical situations from common scams, such as the give 1BTC to get 2BTC back. If anyone did even a simple Google search on that common scam, they would get lots of reports on how it's a hoax.

In more technical situations, it is best to take a skeptical approach, instead of looking for what's fake, rather start with disbelief, and look for things to prove you otherwise.
If you instinctively distrust what you read or see and understand that almost everyone is trying to scam you, then it would take an extra effort to convince you otherwise.
1757  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Spreading Bitcoin and its basic concept on: September 07, 2022, 05:09:33 PM
Talking about bitcoin to those who express interest is cool, but we should not expect that everyone should get into it. It's perfectly fine for someone not to be interested in Bitcoin and they should not be compelled to change their stance, except they show interest to do so.

Also, if you are interested in growing awareness about Bitcoin, using already available content is good enough. This would help prevent passing on inaccurate information to people, or getting them to understand it the way you do.

If so many persons are involved in the Blockchain, when our government notice this, they will be left with no option than to embrace this new era, believing they might generate tax from Bitcoin.
Getting governments interested in taxations from Bitcoin is not a flex at all.
1758  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Storing Bitcoin private keys using dental implants? on: September 06, 2022, 07:24:28 PM
But we know that people would really be loving on testing out things which is really that unusual whether it would really be that a good option or a bad one and it wont really be known unless we do try.
I definitely would not be experimenting on new ways to store my assets for the mere fun of it, when there already is a reliable method I can use.

The risk of having these implants is that never ever let other people do know because if they do then you would really be putting yourself on big risk.
As I pointed out earlier; it's not something one can do on their own, so definitely someone would get to know. Trusting that person(s) to maintain the privacy of my request and procedure is not something I would risk.
1759  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Storing Bitcoin private keys using dental implants? on: September 06, 2022, 06:34:46 PM
Don't try to fix something, if it's not broken. Paper and ink have proven to be effective means of backing up private keys (seed phrase). Having multiple backups helps to act as a fail safe and should be encouraged too, but I can't see a single need to want to carry my seed phrase around in my tooth implants.

What would be the pros and cons of this one?
The biggest con is that a regular guy cannot do this by themselves and would need the help of a professional. Any aspect of safeguarding my seed phrase that would mean exposing it to someone else (who in this case would handle the engraving) is a big risk and one I would not be willing to take.

I personally cannot see any pros to this.
1760  Other / Archival / Re: "If you don't understand where the yield is coming from, you are the yield." on: September 06, 2022, 06:27:23 PM
- DYOR.
This is by far the most important advice, and could prevent 99% of scams that people fall for.
People are mostly influenced by personalities and take what presumed important people say serious; this is one reason scammers try to impersonate such personalities (by creating a fake profile or hacking their actual accounts) inorder to scam gullible people.

If one just simply exercised restrain and did a bit of research, then they would be able to identify scam techniques, or at least seem a second opinion and get some advice, rather than relying on greed.
