1821  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S17+ (70 TH/s) - Hashboard 3 Only Find 10 ASIC on: February 21, 2022, 11:01:09 PM
On Wednesday 16 February 2022, it was raining hard in the afternoon. Suddenly, a very loud lightning struck in the sky,
Merit given for reporting back after the problem was solved.

The electromagnetic disturbance caused by that afternoon lightning strike probably did have an effect on your miner, it could have burned it but it seems to have fixed your issue, my guess is that your PSU caused the problem and not the hashboard itself, so just in case the problem comes back, check the PSU.
1822  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Overclock S9i with OEM Bitman Firmware on: February 21, 2022, 03:05:28 PM
I'm wondering if there's an OEM Bitman firmware version that will allow selection of fixed frequencies (thus overclocking) for the S9i?

That same feature is found "hidden" on the S9i firmware version, just look for the same version/release date and it will be there.

Another option would be using the mutli-option version which can give you an extra 2 terahash.

And just so you know, the original s9 firmware works just fine on both the s9i and s9j, that is not true for s9k and s9se.
1823  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 7.5 cent par kwh what to start with . how much revenu does s9 do at the moment on: February 19, 2022, 11:37:10 PM
what do you advice me to buy ? used maybe? what to consider , is s9 so old it wont be profitable in 2 years (not sure it would even be atm...)

It will be highly unlikely for a second-hand S9 to be running just fine in 2 years anyway, those gears are pretty old and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone who pays anything above zero for power, if you have free power then ROI on S9 is usually 3-5 months, which is somehow pretty safe for an old gear like that, but if you count on it to run for a year or more, you will probably regret it.

With your power rate I wouldn't go above 40w/th, I wouldn't touch any of the Antminer 17 series, so that leaves you a few options, one which I can highly recommend would be M20s, it's in the 40w/th - 50$/th range, which isn't great by any means, but at least not as bad as the other newer gears.
1824  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T9+ not working on: February 19, 2022, 09:31:57 PM
If still do not work try to flash the hashboard with known working pic through Pickit 3
You can follow the guide from this thread below.

There is no sign of any pic corruption in the kernel log, nor in the OP's brief explanation, I would leave such troubleshooting as last in almost all cases.

OP, you don't say if the miner runs fine and then stops or it just doesn't run at all, I can't find anything in the kernel log, and thus I expect the miner to be running just fine at least at the time of the kernel capture.

If it doesn't run at all, I would check the pool settings, if not, then please describe your problem in more detail so we can guide you.
1825  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 265 blocks solved! on: February 19, 2022, 01:31:56 PM
I believe it's worth trying because the chances are still better than Vegas odds.  But he could still come out with $0 at the end.

Not sure if the odds are any better than Vegas, you need to factor in a few more variables that will somehow reduce the odds، it will not be exactly 1 in 2.

But hey i say this because i do not have an extra 100k to play with, value is subjective, since your friend gamles with 6 digits then why not.
1826  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 265 blocks solved! on: February 18, 2022, 10:20:06 PM
Hypothetically, if you invested $100,000 US in hashpower for lets's say two weeks straight, what are the chances of taking home a win?   Has anyone ever attempted that?   It's a crazy of money but I was wondering if that's almost a 1-in-4 chance of solving a block (depending on how much hashpower you can buy).   The ROI is not bad if the odds (and luck) is good.

Time is irrelevant in your question, it does not matter if you spend the 100k in 2 minutes or 2 weeks, it is the number of shares or attempts.

So an easy way to answer your question is to look at the average daily profit per th, which now about 173 dollars, so your 100k can get you 578 ph for 24 hours straight ( ignoring all the other variables which i can tell you about in a different post).

That amount of hashrate needs on average 2 days + a few hours to hit a block, so your 24h chance is 1 in 2.xx.

**Need to be on my pc to give you exact figures, but these rough figures should be good enough to answer your question.

Another different way is to look at it is in fiat value, the current block value is about 250k, if you invest 250k in hashrate your chance is 1 in 1, if you invest 25k it is 1 in 10.

Of course this is all just theory and luck will be all that matters, but IMO it is very unwise to gamble with half a block worth just to hit a block, the risk to reward ratio is just terrible, you may hit 2 blocks and you may hit zero blocks.

The way most of us do this is risk almost nothing in hopes to win everything, it makes a lot of sense that way.

1827  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 265 blocks solved! on: February 16, 2022, 11:36:26 PM
5ph and you didn't find any blocks!?

You seem to be underestimating the current difficulty value, 5ph is just close to nothing, it has a chance of 1 in 41,396 at every block, should difficulty remain flat (which it won't), it should take on average 287 days for 5PH to hit a block, so not hitting a block with 5ph that ran for 1 or 2 days is just pretty normal, you should be surprised if it DID hit a block.
1828  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: 19 Series Overclock firmware. 170t on pro in liquid on: February 16, 2022, 10:12:13 PM
you are promoting is likely taking advantage of them in a pretty package that while it may be easy to use

It's very unlikely that OP is related to Vnish/Asic.to, he is just sharing his experience and maybe "possibly" promoting his Youtube channel, Asic.to has an official account here and I highly doubt marc would create a newbie account just to promote his "already famous" firmware, he would do it his main account. I also highly doubt that OP has the slightest clue that this is a modified version of Cgminer, 99.99% of people don't know.

Of course, I am not commenting on any "license violation" aspect, I am just saying that the majority of folks don't care about it, and that includes the main developer of Cgminer Con Kolivas, heck, not even Jeff Garzik who wrote Cpuminer (which the former forked) seems to give a fudge about people using his code to make money out of it.

It is unethical and illegal in some countries, but not everyone is willing to provide for free so this isn't a black or white situation, the original devs stopped working on the code, Bitmain uses Cgminer without providing the source code for all MOST of their firmware versions, and their firmware sucks, Vnish and the other guys took advantage of this and created a better version (of course, while violating the license), people are happy to pay fees to enjoy all the extra benefits they get, if Cgminer as is, or Bitmain's "improved version" was as good - nobody would use these custom firmware, but people paid tens of thousands of dollars for mining gears that came with a stupid firmware, you can't blame them for using custom firmware.

1829  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Where to fix your Asic miners. on: February 13, 2022, 01:52:40 PM
You would think that now that they ask about 10-12k USD for S19 Pro, it would be easy budget wise to put some more money in to the PSU design...

You want to hear the funnier part? The PSU itself is not under warranty, if you send only a PSU to bitmain they will not fix it.

NFW, i am pretty sure it's mainly poor quality aka cheap components, also a lot of it has to do with the bad cooling design since some folks started to get a lower failure rate when they improved the PSU cooling.

I see many people now replace these apw12 PSUs with another brand like the one made by Alpha, it is 4kw and seems pretty solid, problem is it only runs at 277v which is not an option for many of us.
1830  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Where to fix your Asic miners. on: February 12, 2022, 09:47:29 PM
as of late the PSU's seem to be the weak point. Also one that should be very servicable.

You are right, someone recently reported a 25% failure rate on s19s PSUs, they seem to have fixed the heatsink/chip solder issues they had with the 17 series and now started to screw with the PSUs.
1831  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining "without internet" on: February 12, 2022, 12:23:31 AM
You should take a look into point to point microwave wireless, such as those Ubiquity (2.4ghz/5ghz) antennas.
A bit more DIY could be using Wifi with unidirectional antennas, but they need to be pointed to each other. They have done 382 km!

Line of sight is everything, good luck getting anything close to that range if you won't be cherry-picking your two points, the nature of earth is just "not so flat", we did manage to get connections close to 80km with Ubiquity but one of the antennas was placed on top of a very, very tall tower.

OP I mined for 2-3 years without internet on site, but the farm was connected to the internet via a P2P setup, latency wasn't that bad and I hardly got any rejected/stale shares, your idea should work " at least in theory".

See Blockstream satellite ground stations are connected to the internet, you buy your own base station/dish and you connect to one of the satellites and those satellites keep your node synced with Blockstream ground stations that "are connected to the internet".

What you want to do here is actually have your own satellite ground station and not just a base station, and then once you hit a block, you want to transmit that to the satellites in space for them to re-transmit that block back to the earth so the block can be broadcasted to every mining node for them to stop working on that block.

Latency aside, this isn't a DIY project that can be done with no funding, if you can rent a satellite space and build/buy an uplink transmitter that can transmit blocks to the space -- then half the problem is solved.

Quote
Does anyone know if the BlockStream (or any) satellite can receive blocks or transactions? (other than the company itself, of course)

BlockStream satellites do receive blocks from their own ground stations, you can't send them your blocks even if you had the means to do it.
1832  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Where to fix your Asic miners. on: February 11, 2022, 10:01:38 PM
I am considering sending a couple of my technicians for formal training in ASIC repair to add to our list of services.

I have very limited knowledge in this field, but I am certain your guys don't need "formal training" if they are good at what they do already, wndsnb is now professional in hash board repair, I don't recall he took any courses, but he indeed is very talented in his field and was able to quickly learn how to deal with all that mess.

I got nothing against "special training" to speed things up, but I don't think that kind of training is available anywhere outside of China and maybe Russia, to send 2-3 guys it will cost a few tens of thousands of dollars, since you have the tools (judging by your current business) you can just buy a 1-2 working miners, and a few dead hash boards and get your guys to self-learn, the resources online are somehow limited, but they are there nonetheless.

1833  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: How much BTC can I mine per day with 30TH/s? on: February 11, 2022, 01:38:14 AM
So I would like to ask you, from your experience, not from simulators, what do you think I could gain in a mining pool with 30TH/s?

Your earnings in BTC will depend on a few factors, the short term earnings will be greatly affected by the pool luck factor and the transaction fees, the long term earnings will be affected by the same factors + difficulty, and difficulty in general only goes up as far as the long term is concerned, most online calculators are fairly accurate accounting for all different factors and based on the current difficulty and average recent block fees with 100% luck.

You can use Whattomine.com or Viabtc profit calculator and set your power rate at 0 so that it won't affect your final earnings, the numbers showed there are pretty accurate to a good degree.
1834  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: QUESTIONS: Concerning CKPOOL proxy and running a server. on: February 11, 2022, 12:28:09 AM
FYI and for some reason, CK proxy doesn't work well with other pools, I did try it a while back and it's far from stable when running on Viabtc and Binance, it did run well on Cksolo pool but did not on the two pools I tested, but do your own testing tho.

Also, I am not sure what do you mean by " able to display stats" but you do get the number of clients connected to that instance you running, and the miners that connect to you will see their status on their own Cgminer (like diff, accepted shares and all that), the proxy screen itself is just a command-line interface that displays the number of peers connected, share from x was accepted or rejected, a new block template/work is received, I doubt it logs anything unless you set up the database part.

1835  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: If your shop house has only 70,000 watts as max capacity and you have cheap elec on: February 11, 2022, 12:05:55 AM
if i am looking for something in between whatsminer m21 and s9 what would you recommend? if my budget was in between these 2 machines.

Nothing really falls in between, the S9 does on average 80w/th with custom firmware (as low as 72w on some gears if downclocked really well), the M21s is about 60w/th, there is nothing that does anything above 60w and below 70w which I would recommend to anyone, if the M21s are above your budget, get S9i/S9js, or you can always mix two gears, maybe fill 30kw with M21s and 70kw with S9s, that will give you an overall (in between) option.

1836  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: If your shop house has only 70,000 watts as max capacity and you have cheap elec on: February 09, 2022, 12:52:25 AM
if electricity is free... which rigs would u choose based on those fixed cost?

Budget will be the next point i consider, if budget is limited I will go with S9j or S9i, that will give you about 800th or 4.5k a month based on the current figures.

If budget is flexible, i would go with Whatsminer M21s, that will be 1.15ph or 7k a month, total cost will be at almost double 40$ per th vs 20$ plus for S9s.

However, the M21s will most likely live a lot longer and you will have a lot less gears to manage, less wiring and whatnot.
1837  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: If your shop house has only 70,000 watts as max capacity and you have cheap elec on: February 08, 2022, 10:18:16 PM
We have relatively cheap electricity and looking for fastest roi.

How cheap? every cent matters here, another point you need to consider is your budget, picking the "right" piece of mining gear isn't based on just one factor, you can buy an old  T9 for maybe 100$ and hit ROI in 2-3 months, but then you can only make about 2.2k of profit a day (before the power bill and rent) while consuming all those 70kw, on the other hand, you can get the 30w/th gears and make a few tens of thousands a month, but your budget needs to be so high and ROI won't be great, finding the right balance of everything requires a lot of information.

If you are able to provide this info, then we can talk, keep in mind that nobody will give you the "best" gear to buy, but at least you will be able to use the information to make an informed decision.

1838  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: February 08, 2022, 09:34:19 PM
If it was caused by the winter storm that hit texas from Thursday to Sunday as some report

God bless that storm. Grin

The latest update from Cambridge study puts the U.S at 35% of the total hashrate, it's a bit outdated since the last update was in August of last year, the U.S now has (easily) 50% of the world hashrate, my guess is that by the end of this year the number will jump to 65-70%, something that even China failed to do a few years back.

I won't be surprised if in 2-3 years 90% of the hashrate will be located in the U.S, eventually, those mega players that can secure 2.5c per kWh and have almost "unlimited" funding potential will kick the majority of the other players outside of the game even those large players in some countries like Russia and Kazh, fun times ahead.
1839  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: February 08, 2022, 10:08:35 AM
we lost 3 blocks more off pace and are doing  this 20% of the jump so far

I would love to see us at -37 blocks on Tuesday

Pace is back to 95% and only 31 blocks behind, maybe some large farms are having power issues or something like that, price is up 10% a drop like that in difficulty makes exactly no sense.
1840  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: February 04, 2022, 03:14:04 PM
And us smaller players are our own worst enemy. Whatever they sell at whatever price, even if the price does not make sense we buy it.

You make perfect sense, I do not understand the logic behind buying gears at such prices, it is either they do not understand shit or they know something we don't.

Clearly when gear prices fall only 10% and btc price falls 50% while diff keeps rising, you are better of just buying btc.
