1901  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading is risky, be conscious on: January 20, 2023, 07:16:14 AM
Generally, risk transcends trading and encompasses everything in life. Embarking on a journey (whether road, water, rail or air) it's a huge risk on its own; but let's just stick to trading here. Yes, trading is a lucrative business but as well as a very risky one. The major nag in trading is that many would-be traders like to concentrate on the euphoria of making quick cash without putting in the works to acquiring the needed skills for it. Quite alright, even professional traders suffer losses from time to time but what matters here is the ability to record more profit than loss. Anyone who's scared of seeing red in their trade history isn't prepared to be a trader.

~snipped~
I don't believe that it's only being greedy while being unaware of the danger. I was also almost scammed through a Discord group when I was promised a higher yield on a smart contact. It wasn't greed, but being completely unaware of the dangers and being fooled by someone posing as a group administrator.
Well, whichever way you choose to coat it and make it not sound like it's greed I don't want to argue what is obvious with you. Let me ask you, if the yield promised weren't high would you've been interested? No? You see, that's the point. Many people get easily hooked once they see the ROI, experience or not doesn't matter to anyone who is greedy. They tend to think that the next trap could be different, not knowing that they're all the same.

1905  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: It's a shame people still falling for this on: January 17, 2023, 04:58:36 PM
Only greedy people fall for such tricks. Those aren't new tricks anyway. Why will anyone want to reap where they didn't sow? The first time I saw that in one of the numerous telegram groups I was subscribed to was in 2021. It didn't move me a bit even though it was my first experience with such. The reason being that I've a mindset that nothing is ever free, both online and off it. There's always a catch. I always want to find out what the catch is. I was proved right a few weeks after that when someone complained of how they were duped through that method. Don't expect a philanthropist in this industry. They don't exist.
1906  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is investing in ethereum safe? on: January 17, 2023, 04:14:19 PM
From all indications, Ethereum has proved itself more instrumental in the development of this industry than any other altcoin. I even maintain that if not that Bitcoin is the pathfinder in this game and has got a very strong fan base, ETH would've taken the trophy from it a long time ago. Just look at the Ethereum smart contract which it started before others and tell me why anyone wouldn't want to invest in ETH. Ethereum is the queen coin while Bitcoin is the king. That's the way I see it.
1907  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BTC analysis today on: January 17, 2023, 10:30:10 AM
I have not watched the video because I know you are looking for views using the stupid clickbaits. If you want to post analysis or your ideas here, then go ahead and post screenshots of your analysis from trading view charts here too if you want proper engagement.
Ain't no way we are going to waste time watching trashy YouTube videos with ads and requests to using up in certain crypto exchanges using the author's referral links.
Exactly what I think too. Why redirect users to something that could easily have been explained here. I'm mindful of clicks this day because of malware, not even because it's a bait to make OP money. OP should put up a different method which must include an option of analysis of whatever that's contained in their shared video links. The video angle should be optional for those who care to watch.
1908  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone know why FTT price started to rise just now? on: January 17, 2023, 09:45:55 AM
I'm certainly not the most qualified person to answer your question but I recently came across an article claiming that the FTX exchange was able to recover 5 billion dollars in assets (including  other cryptocurrencies, cash, and other liquid assets) in an effort to repay its customers, which could possibly justify the recovery FTT is marking.

Source: https://cryptopotato.com/ftx-locates-5-billion-in-assets-attorney-says-report/
Yes, that's a pointer. However, there are some investors who are equally buying based on crowd mentality. They believe that since there's a recovery sought of that the token and exchange are likely to bounce back. This is a classical example why no one should follow the crowd. I once bought into a dead project (I mean, the project was already dead but I didn't know) because I saw a momentary price rise and it was cheap. I believe that's what people are doing now with FTT. Since then, I learnt to always visit and verify from every project's telegram handle before buying. This has helped me a lot.
1909  Other / Meta / Re: is it normal on: January 17, 2023, 06:10:36 AM
Since the question has already been answered pretty well, OP, please lock the thread.
Your post is a clear exposition on how to do it yourself but you don't expect a newbie like OP to continue to stay put after their questions have been answered. I guess they've already moved and may not likely locate this thread again to lock it. It now behoove the mods to do the needful by stepping in and locking it as that will keep spam off here.

I am a 47 year old person, about 10 days ago I created a topic, namely: can a 47 year old person invest in bitcoin?
Yes, I remember reading your thread. Ride on your tenacity.

and at the same time I have advice for people who are the same age as me or older than me, don't give up investing because of age, because age is God's secret.
Not to burst your bubbles or dampen your spirit but I hate to tell you that what you just experienced could've turned the other way with losses. Don't get carried away with your first win. Crypto is a crazy and unpredictable industry.. I hope you won't take it out on your friend or whoever that introduced you to this forum when the loss comes; for it will surely come. To even state my opinion, I don't think we're in the bull season yet. For all I know, this could even be a bull trap.
1911  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Pumping After The Arrest of Sam on: January 16, 2023, 04:33:32 PM
Bankster-Fraud probably bribed them to write such a good things about him just as he bribed the American politicians, who are mostly crooks themselves.
That practically answered the question you asked in the second paragraph of your post – on why the media dang his praises. I read about how he doled out cash like a very wealthy philanthropist to politicians, especially the Biden campaign. Show me anyone who doles out cash to politicians and wouldn't do same to the media. Is there any? None. The ilks of Sam Fried (BTW, your new coinage for his name is hilarious and seems to fit well) is the reason this industry continues to get a bad name. Greed won't allow most of the devs and teams do the right thing by keeping it straight and honest.
1912  Other / Meta / Re: Looking for forum customer support [moderator/admin] on: January 16, 2023, 03:33:27 PM
The point I don't get in all this is why would anyone report a direct inbox message inviting them to participate in a signature campaign or services they're thought to be special and reputable, only for them to turn around and report the sender to get banned 🤷. Humanity is really a joke. This is a case of wishing someone good while they plot your downfall.
1913  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Many signals don't work now like they use to be on: January 16, 2023, 03:09:47 PM
Most indicators work well, especially the lagging ones, in trending markets (either rallying up or down) and not when the market is ranging and choppy. A lot of indicators get confused whenever that happens, even traders do get lost too during such time. We find it difficult whenever the market becomes erratic and such a situation is evident during ranging market. At a time like that, it's best to stick to line indicators of pivots and S&R. So, OP you don't have to get frustrated. This too will soon pass and the signals will return with their near accurate predictions once the bear or bull returns..
1914  Other / Meta / Re: How many forum members do you know by real name? on: January 16, 2023, 02:03:08 PM
I voted over 10 and it's surprising I'm still the only one. I guess people that know people don't want to participate in the survey. Smiley
I guess members are still skeptical voting. I voted over 6 but when I did I was the only one who picked that option. Now, I see two more people have joined me. Perhaps, more people will join you later too. Frankly, I don't see how voting one's option defiles the supposed hold on anyone's privacy provided no one is asking anyone for names.
1915  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A good way to promote Bitcoin or not? on: January 16, 2023, 01:47:38 PM
It's a welcomed development. That payment method has been ongoing among some of my compatriots here who run local businesses in the country. For them, they've recorded surprising patronage which was birthed out of curiosity. Note that there are people who are keen on trying new techs if they're exposed to it. Just be ready to answer a lot of penetrating questions on what you're about to get into. Do you've time for that? Will you not be irritated by their nagging questions and then get stressed out? By the way, get a Bitcoin sign and place in your shop to get more attention. If you're lucky, those who know about Bitcoin already and live in your area will want to flock to your shop more because there's that comradeship among Bitcoiners.
1916  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Your best advice/recommendations for a crypto beginner on: January 16, 2023, 11:46:32 AM
What is your recommendation for a beginner?
For a beginner, I will advise that you avoid any investment on altcoins. Concentrate your investments on Bitcoin alone. This is simply because Bitcoin has come to stay. It may dip badly but it will surely recover unlike alts that can disappear into thin air. Two, don't take any advice from anyone who sends you a PM asking you to invest in a certain business. Don't trust anyone quickly here, verify them first. Just like we've nice guys here, we also have bad guys and scammers too on the internet space. Have it in mind. In addition, always make it a habit to DYOR (Do Your Own Research) before plunging into any investment.
1917  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just lost $4000 because of addresses starting with "bc1p" on: January 16, 2023, 08:51:03 AM
Not that I doubt your story but it's so that the rest of us will know how to escape a similar situation in future.
The mistake the OP did would likely be because he send bitcoin to a wrong address.
Sorry, my question was for the OP. I don't want to make assumptions on what happened just like you did there, that was why I directed it to them to answer. I don't want a "maybe" response. OP's response will be saving many a user here the headache of passing through a repeated situation of theirs. So, avail them that space to respond.
1918  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Teach me how on: January 16, 2023, 06:59:50 AM
The forum's search function simply straight-up sucks for 99% of cases. Just use Google.

Code:
site:Bitcointalk.org *insert search query here*

~
If the forum's search engine sucks as both of you've identified (I've noticed it too) then it's about time something is done on that. The few times I tried to search stuff on the forum it was herculean getting through. Henceforth, I will start adopting mk4 method.

If you're searching the name of a person or a company then it works really well...
That's about the best it does. Just accurate in members search.
1919  Other / Meta / Re: How many forum members do you know by real name? on: January 15, 2023, 09:14:24 PM
Some of you have attended bitcoin conferences and similar meetups with your forum buddies.
Some have even attended wedding ceremonies of others, especially those in my local board. They do regular meetups to unwind. Don't worry, I won't roll out the register. Your names are safe with me 🧐

Quote
That makes me wonder: how many people from Bitcointalk do you know in real life? How many do you know by name because of your forum dealings and relationships?
I know quite a handful of them by their real names and many of them are from my local board but I've only met fewer of them in person. Again, there are also some I introduced to this forum.

Quote
Have you ever wished you could meet someone from the forum, but it never happened? Can you call anyone from this community a friend, and why?
Yes to both questions.
1920  Economy / Services / Re: 🚧[OPEN] [banned mixer] | Bitcoin Mixer | Signature Campaign ~ Up to $100/week on: January 15, 2023, 06:52:50 PM
Although I have mine with ref links, with you guys, I'll have to confirm that with the Coinomize team first.
It's awesome to know that Coinomize still gave you an opportunity to run its campaign despite what transpired. I'm happy for you because I believe you're innocent in the whole thing. Keep it up man.
