2061  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2021-02-23] Yellen sounds warning about ‘extremely inefficient’ bitcoin on: February 25, 2021, 05:39:12 AM
Despite all the scaremongering.. Bitcoin continues to trade above the $50,000 level. Rather than attacking Bitcoin all the time, Yellen and the rest of the reptilian overlords must think about the falling purchasing power of the US Dollar. They should analyze why people are not preferring the USD to store their wealth. I am still waiting to see how the latest $1.9 trillion stimulus is going to turn out. Let's see what impact it is going to have on inflation.
2062  Economy / Economics / Re: 'Cryptocurrency is not legitimate money,' says Nigeria's central bank governor on: February 25, 2021, 05:20:08 AM
As usual, too many people are just missing the point out there. It is only for the community to decide if Bitcoin is legitimate.

Agreed. Those who use cryptocurrency will decide whether it is legitimate or not. Those shops which accept cryptocurrency will decide whether it is legitimate or not. People who don't understand the concept of cryptocurrency, such as this illiterate guy (Godwin Emefiele) should concentrate on his main business of printing banknotes without any limit and worsening the monetary inflation issue.

It seems Kohli has been struggling with his batting, I thought he would stick to the ground till the end but was out for just 27 runs. All hopes are now with Rohit Sharma and Rahane, they both need to stick to the wicket till the end of the match today if India wants to put on a big score.

Rohit is not the type of batsman who has the patience to bat all day. He prefers scoring runs quickly, irrespective of the ground conditions. India would be looking at a total of above 300, which can probably give them an innings victory. But if the lower order batsmen are able to make some good scores, then they can go much beyond that. Anyway for England, the match is essentially over and they are heading towards a humiliating defeat.

Another option I have is to make the payment with BCH or ETH..

No Doge? and no LTC?
I don't see the reason why somebody would be accepting BCH and not any of those two!

They do accept DOGE and LTC, but I don't have any of these coins in my wallet. I had some LTC until 2019, but those coins were stored in Cryptopia. When Cryptopia got hacked, I lost those coins. And regarding DOGE, I never had any of that coin with me. I have always considered DOGE as a scam, and despite the recent increase in exchange rates my opinion regarding DOGE hasn't changed.

It's all over. England blasted out for a total of 112 in less than two sessions of play. Axar Patel picked 6 wickets, while Ashwin got 3. The so called "world champions (after obviously stealing the CWC 2019 trophy from New Zealand)" can't play against a bowler like Axar Patel. Another humiliation for England. These are their totals in the last 3 innings - 134, 164, 112. Making a total above 200 in India seems to be very difficult for them.
2066  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine, is it the end to the deadly corona virus? on: February 24, 2021, 11:24:07 AM
Vaccines that are mass used for now are Pfizer, and after it are Sputnik and Sinofarm. Country like UAE, who is ranking high in vaccination, is using Sputnik and Sinofarm. They are rich, they do beleive in these vaccines so do I.

UAE is currently using four different vaccines - Pfizer-BioNTech, Oxford-AstraZeneca, Sputnik V and Sinopharm. Now these four have varying efficacy rates, ranging from 95% for the Pfizer vaccine to 62% for AstraZeneca. They received the vaccines in time not because they are rich. They received them on time, because they were one of the first countries to sign contracts with the vaccine manufacturers.

England in all sorts of trouble right now. And this happened despite Joe Root winning the toss. Being a D/N test, this match represents the best opportunity for England to make it 2-1 against India. But with such a horrible start, I would be surprised if they manage to reach a total of even 200. There doesn't seems to be anything in the pitch for the pace bowlers. Both Ishant and Jasprit didn't got much assistance from the surface.

Calculating the appropriate transaction fee is also getting difficult now. Earlier I used to check websites such as earn.com, but they are also not very accurate nowadays. I am in a tricky position right now because I need to transfer BTC0.038 to a third party website for some purchases. And I don't wan to spend $30 or $40 as fee. If I put in a fee of 30 Sat/Byte, is it possible to get a confirmation within 24 hours?

Earn has not been a good estimate for a long time. It's time you just use a good client like Electrum, it's had a fairly good estimate built in, and if you switch on RBF, then you can always replace your fee if you need something urgently.

30 sats/byte now doesn't look like a good fee. I think you should always check your ID on blockchair and it can tell you how far you are away from the line.

Keep consolidating inputs too in low fee periods... then you avoid these situations.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I will wait for some more time to transfer my coins. Don't want to move my coins now and get stuck for another week. I am checking the Mempool size from time to time. It shows no sign of reducing. Another option I have is to make the payment with BCH or ETH. But the BCH prices are too low nowadays and I don't want to sell my coins now. And for ETH, the transaction fee is as worse as BTC.

2070  Economy / Economics / Re: Dubai Free Zone Becomes First UAE Government Entity to Accept Bitcoin on: February 24, 2021, 08:05:20 AM
Dubai not coming slow.. another good news for Bitcoin coming soon..

"Dubai businessman pledges largest Bitcoin investment in history.
Khurram Shroff (chairman of Dubai’s IBC Group) says he has pledged 100,000 Bitcoin, worth $4.8bn, to set up the Miami 2.0 Blockchain Strategy Foundation
Burkhan currently has over $1 billion worth of real estate projects in Miami in its pipeline that are being empowered with technological innovation."

https://www.arabianbusiness.com/banking-finance/458881-dubai-businessman-pledges-largest-bitcoin-investment-in-history

In due time we will see more and more businessmen jumping in to the Bitcoin bandwagon. Many are starting to realize that Bitcoin represents the future. I don't know much about Khurram Shroff. To be honest, this is the first time that I am hearing about him. But I am sure about one thing. His massive investment in Bitcoin will give huge profits to him in the long term.
2071  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: February 24, 2021, 07:50:01 AM
In order to develop immunity in 25% of the population, about 30% of the population must get sick with the virus. If you are from India, then you should have about 450 million people. But I have not seen such statistics anywhere ... According to international statistics, more than 10 million people fell ill in India. So unfortunately you are in a hurry with optimistic predictions, sorry

Less than 10% of the cases are being diagnosed in India. Asymptomatic patients may never know that they had COVID 19, unless they go for antibody tests. The death toll and the total number of infections are severely undercounted in India. Friends say that a lot of people died within 2-3 weeks after being discharged from the hospitals. Those numbers are not included in the death count.
2072  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indian Super League (ISL) Football match updates, predictions and discussions on: February 24, 2021, 07:21:47 AM
The teams ranked 3 to 5 still have a chance of making it to the knockout phase, but the chances are highest for Goa and Northeast.
I don't think Goa will be able to win against Hyderabad. However, Goa can qualify for the next round only if they can draw this match. In this match, they will play defensively and try their best to draw. Hyderabad should change their match strategy and play attacking football. Otherwise, they will not be able to go to the next round.

If they play defensively for 90 minutes, then in all probability they will lose the match. Goa is a better team compared to Hyderabad and there is no need for them to be excessively defensive. They need to play their natural game. As you have mentioned, only a draw is needed for them to qualify for the playoffs, so this should not be a very tough job.
2073  Economy / Economics / Re: Nigeria will overtake India in P2P on: February 24, 2021, 06:31:01 AM
Not saying that Nigeria is richer than India because that is easily disputable, however it is clear that Nigeria relies on Bitcoin a lot more, India has been in the online work force industry for decades now and they are awesome at it, whereas Nigeria is great in bitcoin but not so much in other payment options, hence I think India can always go back to paypal when Nigeria will keep focusing on bitcoin.

The Indian government is composed of some illiterate idiots who were elected to power just because they enjoy widespread support in the slum areas. A lot of illiterates in India support them, because of the freebie culture. And now coming to usage of PayPal in India, the government made it almost impossible for PayPal to operate and therefore they closed down the operations inside India.

PayPal Holdings Inc will wind down its domestic payments business in India from April 1, the company said in a statement on Friday. San Jose, California-based PayPal will instead focus on its cross-border payments business, which means global customers will still be able to pay Indian merchants using the service.

Some of the government lapdogs have now jumped into the fray. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, regarded as one of the most well known equity investors in India have come up with a strange logic. He says that he don't like Bitcoin and therefore government should make it illegal. This Jhunjhunwala guy was earlier charged with insider trading and market manipulation, but due to his close bond with the ruling party, the investigation into these crimes were suspended.

2075  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Silk Road Film has been released - shows what happened on this forum 2 catch on: February 24, 2021, 05:57:34 AM
Took me 2-3 days to find enough spare time to complete watching this movie. I am impressed with the filmmakers for giving an accurate picture of Ross Ulbricht. Ross was not a drug peddler or a scammer. He never cared about money. All he wanted was to stand up for his Libertarian political beliefs and create marketplace where anything can be purchased anonymously. This is not the picture FBI want you to believe. The FBI want you to believe that Ross was a hardcore criminal, who wanted to flood the US with drugs.

One inaccuracy I noticed was that the rogue FBI agent (Shaun Bridges, depicted as "Rick Bowden" in the movie) is being portrayed as a family man, who stole money from Ross to fund the school education of his daughter. A robbery is a robbery, no matter what. But tell me who need $800,000 for the payment of school fees? Tell me the name of the school which charges this much as tuition fee.

But apart from a few minor inaccuracies, the movie was more or less unbiased.

As expected Northeast United won today's match against East Bengal and now have 30 points. Goa is also having 30 points, but they are placed higher thanks to a superior goal difference. Hyderabad is at 5th place, with 28 points. Just one match remains for each of the teams. Goa will take on Hyderabad, and Northeast will be taking on Kerala. The teams ranked 3 to 5 still have a chance of making it to the knockout phase, but the chances are highest for Goa and Northeast.

Media is reporting that Umesh and Bumrah are likely to replace Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj for the third test. I believe it is a bit harsh for Kuldeep. First he was dropped for the first test, in order to include Shahbaz Nadeem. In the second test, he was included in the playing XI, but Kohli gave him only a few overs to bowl (and an easy catch off his bowling was dropped by Siraj).

2078  Economy / Economics / Re: Rich have too much on: February 23, 2021, 01:23:14 PM
That's already happening. I am paying around 35% of my salary as tax, while some of my poor neighbors don't pay any tax at all. On the other hand, I am not eligible for any welfare handouts from the government, while the non-tax paying neighbors are automatically eligible. I hardly get anything in return for the taxes I pay. This is how the system works. And in the end, the welfare rats always cry that the rich are not helping them.
... Taxes are a little different. Taxes form budgets that provide social security and other "services" that the state provides, including you. ...

Taxes are implemented as a distribution of wealth -- people with more are forced by threat of violence to give money to people with less. You can't deny it. You are trying to obscure that fact by showing how some people benefit from it and by saying that people get some of there taxes back in benefits.

I give as much as I can to charities in order to keep it away from the government. If I am forced to give my money away, then at least I can decide where it goes  by giving it to charities.

Here in my country we have a limit on charitable donations, that are exempted from tax. But I don't usually donate a lot to the charities, because I had some bad experiences in the past. There are only a few charities whom we can trust 100%. Also, there is no option to donate to charities instead of paying taxes. Although the donations (up to a limit) are exempted from taxes, you need to pay tax on the remaining amount of your taxable income.
2079  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is dumping, what's the possible reason? on: February 23, 2021, 12:37:01 PM
Classic march fever incoming.

It is applicable for investment in stocks and mutual funds, and I assume that it may have some impact on the cryptocurrency market as well. People usually sell some of their stocks in March, since it is the last month of the financial year. They do this in order to keep capital gains low for the next year. In a few cases, investors book losses on some of their investments in order to keep the capital gains low for that particular year. In many of the countries gains from Bitcoin trading is regarded as capital gains and therefore this may be applicable in the Bitcoin sector as well.
2080  Economy / Economics / Re: Indian Economy to grow at 11.5% in 2021 say IMF on: February 23, 2021, 12:11:36 PM
Believe me as someone from a nation that had the same politicians for over a decade, I can tell you that no matter how "good" you think a politician is, if you give him power for 10+ years they will become bad, there has never been any politician in the world that ruled over 10+ years and still stayed an amazing ruler, always starts to become horrible.

That is why I like USA system, they have that presidents rule only 8 year rule and usually the last year of their terms are just like a farewell tour and rarely anything big happens, which is why I think it is quite important that we focus on making sure politicians realize we can take away the power we give them, they think they "earned" that right and start becoming super arrogant and forget that the power we give them will be taken away from them in the end if they are ever too bad, obviously dictators are out of this, because they do not get votes they just declare themselves rulers, unfortunately there are still some nations with dictators.

Completely agreed with this. I have visited India very frequently, and I could see what is happening before my own eyes. The ruling party (BJP) was first elected in 2014, and back then people had high hopes about them. During their first term (2014-19), the performance was OK and therefore they were re-elected in 2019. However, the second term is like a horror story. Taxes have been increased to sky high levels and the middle class is really suffocating. Cryptocurrency investors face complete economic ruin, as the government threatens wealth confiscation. Farmers are agitating all across the country. Not a single sector of the economy is doing well right now.
