2101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Remember today's date 19th Feb, 2021. BTC crossed $1 trillion marketcap on: February 21, 2021, 01:11:11 PM
LOL.. when I first purchased Bitcoin, the market cap was around $150 million. It has gone up by almost 700 times since then. Looking back, I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would see Bitcoin prices going up by so much. When I joined this forum in 2012, I was quite ideologically motivated about Bitcoin. Getting such a huge ROI from my investment was never in my mind. But in the end, Bitcoin made me rich. If I had held on to all of my coins from 2012-13, then I would have been a millionaire already. But no regrets there. I am happy with what I got.
2102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: No year of altcoins coming. All the big money is pouring into bitcoin. on: February 21, 2021, 01:01:09 PM
Altcoins have been growing in price throughout 2020 and reached incredible heights, and as you can see, many altcoins continue to grow in price and reach new heights, for example, Ethereum or Binance Coin, so not all investors invest only in bitcoin, also, many big investors invest in various altcoins, so in 2020 a lot of altcoins brought a very good profit and in 2021 altcoins are also moving towards new goals and provide an opportunity to make money for investors.

Here you are generalizing all the altcoins, and that should not be the case ideally. Some of the alts, such as Cardano and BNB are doing well, along with some of the newer coins such as Polkadot and Chainlink. But look at the established coins such as Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash. All of them have gone down in exchange rate versus Bitcoin, when compared to the levels we had in 2020.
2103  Economy / Economics / Re: Food prices doubled this year on: February 21, 2021, 12:51:10 PM
If you look carefully, you can see that the commodity prices are increasing almost uniformly (with gold being the sole exception). Crude oil, food, real estate.etc are at least 20%-30% higher than last year's levels. Hyperinflation is already here. The governments around the world resorted to unlimited printing of banknotes, giving the excuse of COVID 19 pandemic. Now the results are here for everyone to see. Purchasing power of fiat currency is going down, and that is what causing the sudden increase in food prices.
2104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OMG !!!!! You BitCoin people were right. I wish I had bought back in March :( on: February 21, 2021, 12:41:05 PM
You can do nothing but forget the past and do not regret it. Instead start investing now and buy bitcoin because this is not the end of bitcoin. It is just the beginning of bitcoins development and adoption. It will hit more $ on the next months and years.

That is correct. The impact from institutional investment won't be visible in one or two weeks. The rally is going to occur over a period of many months, or even years, as the supply dried up at the market. The important thing to note here is to avoid panic selling, and to keep your coins safe and secure to protect them from hackers. I would say that for the best returns, you need to keep your coins for at least 4 more years. The longer you hold, the greater will be the profits. But obviously, I am not saying that you need to hold your coins till 2100.
2105  Economy / Economics / Re: Reserve Bank of India - Most confused financial entity right now! on: February 21, 2021, 12:31:08 PM
A few days back, there was an article in the Mint. It claims that by imposing a hefty penalty over the existing 42.7%, and then forcing existing cryptocurrency users to sell their holdings, the government is expecting a windfall. Things like these would be abhorred in democratic countries and will be termed as wealth confiscation. But in today's India, where authoritarian policies by the ruling party is gaining increasing acceptance, all this will be treated as normal. The users are divided. Some of them want to take the fight to the supreme court. Others want to migrate to other countries which don't have these sort of draconian legislations.
2106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why do you love Cardano? on: February 21, 2021, 12:21:10 PM
Got tired of ADA and moved to full-time mining. Recently sold mine to buy another GPU. Well I am thankful that even though I lost with Ada I still.manage to cut it for about 30 percent. If you are planing to hold ADA then goodluck because for almost 4 years of waiting i did not manage to get profits, too bad for me I guess.

You could have held on to your coins for a bit longer. I made a similar mistake. I was planning to purchase ADA in 2018. But two factors made me think otherwise in the end. First of all, the exchange rates were going down like a falling rock. ADA lost 99% of its value in just 12 months. I thought that it was going to end up dead pretty soon. Another important factor that weighed in was the difficulty in storing ADA. Back in 2018, there was no lite wallet available to store ADA. Everyone needed to install the horrible Daedalus wallet.
2107  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: February 21, 2021, 12:11:16 PM
Everyone, if you need to watch the PSL matches over the internet, you can watch it here.

https://www.geosuper.tv/live

Friends in India are saying that they are watching the matches live on SONY TEN 1. If I am correct, last time there was no live coverage of the matches and everyone had to g through YouTube streams. But this time in India, the coverage is available in cable TV. I am watching the Peshawar vs Lahore match now, and it is always good to see the crowd back in the stadiums. If the board manages this competition well, then it has the potential to become the second largest franchise league in terms of revenue and viewership.
2108  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Silk Road Film has been released - shows what happened on this forum 2 catch on: February 21, 2021, 12:01:14 PM
Just started watching this move around 30 minutes back, and so far it looks pretty unbiased. It is really surprising. The FBI would have wanted the movie makers to paint Ross as an evil individual who cared only about money. But the producers are trying to be as honest as they can with the subject. Still, some 1 hour 20 minutes remaining in the movie, and I don't want to make my final judgment yet.

Here are some of the quotes from the movie:

Quote
Silk Road is about something much bigger than thumbing your nose at the man. It's about taking back our liberty.

Quote
And as corny as it sounds, I just wanna look back at my life and know that I did something that helped people.

Quote
Ross: "Well, until 1967, it was illegal for a white man to marry a Black woman in the state of Virginia. In 14 other states, including the great state of Texas, mind you, it was illegal for two people to have consensual sodomy until 2002. America has lost its compass, man. If you wanna fall in love with someone who doesn't look like you or have sex with somebody who does, that is your inalienable right. The state cannot legislate what the person can and can't do. It is un-American."
2109  Economy / Economics / Re: Reserve Bank of India - Most confused financial entity right now! on: February 19, 2021, 11:22:00 AM
I completely agree with what amishmanish has written in the previous post. The regime in India has become autocratic, authoritarian and arrogant. If they don't like something, then they will simply ban it. They don't care about opposing voices. They believe that they don't need to listen to the opposition and the minority groups, because they are having a raw majority in both the houses of the parliament and unlimited support form the supreme court. On top of that, the opposition in India is a disorganized and confused lot.
2110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Silk Road Film has been released - shows what happened on this forum 2 catch on: February 19, 2021, 11:11:35 AM
If that is the case, I would suggest that people be warned about such movie.

By the way, the movie must not expose innocent/harmless Bitcoiners to harm with what it tries to potray, or get people to start turning against Bitcoin unnecessarily.
I believe the transparency of Bitcoin (which fiat doesn't offer) made things easy for the security agencies... and it's transparent to the public too. This is the kind of thing a Just society should promote not resist.

It is an independent production and therefore I am hopeful that they will portray a neutral picture of Silk Road and Ulbricht. That said, it needs to be seen how much interest it will generate among the average moviegoers. This movie should have been released at least a year ago. It would have increased the chances of Ulbricht getting a pardon from Trump. But now Trump is gone, and he was probably the only president who could have considered a pardon for Ulbricht. Also, I am a bit worried about how they are going to portray Bitcointalk.
2111  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin crossed Tencent's marketcap on: February 19, 2021, 11:00:32 AM
We are so close to the $1 trillion market cap, and I hope it will be achieved in this month itself. The reaction from the corporations and institutions remain overwhelmingly positive, despite the FUD being spread by JP Morgan and some of the other banking cartels. In the long term, Bitcoin will be posing a tough challenge to gold. Both these assets are being used as a store of value now. I believe that Bitcoin is superior to gold, because it can be easily transacted across the international borders, and can be hidden and protected against confiscation.
2112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Cardano is most likely an outdated an overvalued coin on: February 18, 2021, 11:03:17 AM
LOL.. this is really funny. OP claims that Cardano is an outdated coin, when compared to "advanced" coins such as Ethereum. I am 100% sure that he hasn't compared the technology of these two cryptocurrencies. ETH is a second generation cryptocurrency, which uses languages such as Rust, C# and C++. On the other hand, ADA is one of the most advanced third generation cryptocurrencies we have in the market, and it uses an advanced algorithm written in Haskell. When ADA first came online, they faced a few issues such as storage. But those issues are resolved by now, and that is the reason why it is going up nowadays.
2113  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: February 18, 2021, 10:32:56 AM
Woah, Maxwell sold for whopping 14.25 crores despite of his poor form in the previous IPL. I think punjab would have thought for once that they could Buy Maxwell for something less than 10.75 crores but RCB and CSk were too excited for him. I think his form post IPL against India is the main reason why every franchise was so excited about him. I am surprised to see Steve Smith sold for so low at just 2.2 crore. I think bowlers will once again be more valuable than batsmen.

Maxwell remains one of the legends in T20 cricket, despite his poor record so far with the IPL. So that price tag is rather justified. But imagine this - 2.20 crore for Steve Smith, who is one of the legends in cricket and almost double that amount for the relatively unknown Shivam Dube. And some of the very good players have gone unsold till now - Karun Nair, Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Evin Lewis and Aaron Finch. BTW, I am not much surprised with the lack of interest for Hanuma Vihari and Kedar Jadhav.

Bidding war initiated for Chris Morris right now.. teams are going all out to purchase the player whom they have targeted. First the bidding war was between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, but later other teams also joined in later. Finally he was sold to Rajasthan Royals for a massive 16.25 crore.
2114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: North Korean Hackers Indicted by Cryptocurrency Attacks on: February 18, 2021, 07:54:38 AM
I sometime wonder that, in a country like N. Korea where people are not allowed to have a computer system at their home and the network is super restrictive, how come it has become a breeding ground for hackers? Isn't it strange? Or it may be possible that N. Korea government is hiring hackers from China or other countries to launch such attacks! But whenever I hear about N. Korean hackers, it sounds more like conspiracy theory to me!

But if I assume the hackers are from North Korea, I am sure they wouldn't help in any investigation. So if FBI is looking to investigate this matter, they wouldn't have any assistance from N. Korea without any doubt. Also with the increase in bitcoin's price, the frequency of such attacks may increase and even target the big corporates in coming years!

This story is not entirely reliable. But at least a section of the North Korean society has access to high-speed internet. For example, close to 150,000 North Korean citizens have permanent residency in Japan. These people do have access to modern technology. I strongly suspect they would risk doing cyber hacking while residing in Japan, but there is always a possibility of some of them traveling to DPRK and teaching native North Korean hackers how to make use of their skills.

The spat between CSA and CA is getting really ugly.

https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/sa-vs-aus-tour-postponed-csa-lodges-official-complaint-against-cricket-australia-with-icc-1252099

I never had a good opinion about CSA for the last two decades and my opinion hasn't changed till now. They remain one of the most incompetent cricket boards out there. In two decades time, they managed to destroy a team, which once ranked as the no.1 side. The South African strain of the Coronavirus is a big concern all over the world and I believe that CA did the right thing by requesting to move the series to either Australia, or to a neutral venue. It is the CSA which remained adamant about this.
2116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH made me very Angry today on: February 18, 2021, 06:24:44 AM
ETH is at ATH and with that the high gas prices come. I'm sorry for you but it is like that now. The ETH 2.0 should solve that problem. If you really want to transfer funds try use other coins not eth based so you have lower fees.

For how long you are going to say this? So let's assume that ETH 2.0 will be fully implemented by 2023. That means that we should stop transacting using ETH until then? With Bitcoin also we are facing similar issues. The root cause is known to everyone. But no one want to talk about it. Miners control the decision making with most of the cryptocurrencies and that leaves out 99.9% of the users. Just check the average ETH fee here:

https://ycharts.com/indicators/ethereum_average_transaction_fee

The fee has remained above $10 for quite some time now. And the worst part is that the trends indicate that it will grow further in the next few months.
2117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Altcoin Safe for Investment on: February 18, 2021, 05:40:14 AM
First of all, there is nothing like a safe investment option. Even if you invest in extremely low-volatile assets such as treasury bonds, there is a risk of default. The level of risk is many times for high-volatile assets such as Bitcoin. And it is one step further for the altcoins. But then, the general rule with investment is that you need to take the risk, if you want good returns. Take the case of Cardano for example. 12 months back, it was trading at $0.025 per coin. The current price is $0.93, which represents a ROI of 3620% in 12 months.
2118  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: February 18, 2021, 05:26:20 AM
You're changing goal post now.

Anyway, before cricketer used to play max 100ish day of cricket every year but nowadays workload doubled for everyone and i think this believe comes through our bias. Every generation thinks that their timeline was golden period, if we ask same question to younger people in their early 20s or newly adults, they would say Bumrah, Cummins, Archer, Rabada are flag bearers of pace in the modern cricket and old guy like Anderson still kicking in.

I have watched Glenn McGrath, Alan Donald and Curtly Ambrose bowl when I was a kid. And now I am watching Archer, Cummins and Bumrah. For me, the former bunch was much more skilled than the latter. They were exciting to watch and none of the current bowlers could deliver the balls the same way as they did back then. So I am going to disagree if you say that these two groups are equally talented.
2119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH high gas fee on: February 17, 2021, 05:54:17 PM
It was November 2020 when 6$ gas fee for fast transaction but what happened today at the moment for lower gas fee is 40$ WTF! What's going on such crazy Etherum Network Fees. I just sent 0.01 ETH from Binance to my ETH wallet but i got 0.005 ETH that means 50% network fee even though i can't transfer a token for minimum 40$ fees in myetherwallet.

This is really bad. I still remember the situation we had in 2018 and 2019, when the average transaction fee was around $0.10. It has increased by almost 200 times in two years. The worst affected are those bounty hunters, who need to pay a fortune to move their tokens to exchanges. BTW, I am curious to know what happened to the claim that ETH 2.0 will reduce the gas fee. ETH 2.0 was implemented many months back, and I am yet to witness any decrease in the transaction fee. I could notice an increase on the other hand.
2120  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Your Portfolio before and after the pandemic on: February 17, 2021, 05:35:52 PM
My portfolio composition has remained almost unchanged, but I sold around 15% of my BTC in 2020. I wasn't facing any financial issue, but though that it was time to book some profit. And most of the selling was done before the PayPal-fueled rally. If I had kept those coins for a few more months, then I could have received 3x or 4x profits. Anyway, I don't regret much. Back in 2015 I sold most of my coins at $200 per coin. At least compared to that, this time I got a good price.
