I created a second wallet and wrote down the seed and password. I must have written down the password wrong because it doesn't work. I restored my original wallet when I changed computers and then added a second wallet.
I think I figured out how to restore the wallet but want to make sure before I try it.
File>New/Restore select wallet from list and then select "Save". Is that correct, and if so what happens next?

ok another newb question, I run bitmonroed app to get the blockchain updated, run the simplewallet, and mine. After the blockchain said it was updated, I came back a while later to see the block chain window was all red text, so I stopped it, but it started from 5 days back again. Any suggestions? Also do I have to keep both the walllet and the blockchain window running while im mining?
If you're mining with cpuminer on a pool, then no, you don't need to keep wallet and bitmonerod running (just remember to save both of them before exiting, or it might take quite a while to load when you open them again). Also, the wall of red text is OK, just some p2p messages, shouldn't affect anything. Thank you sir..sorry for the newb questions... When you close bitmonerod, that is the daemon where you saw the red text, type the command "exit" and it will save the blockchain so you only have to resync from when you saved it. I do the same with the wallet.

But the sell order is for 0.0035 while the current price is 0.0018 and has been near that for a few days. Yes it is a shit load of coins.
Meanwhile at Poloniex....

On Monday when we get added to Mintplal this coin will fly to the moon!!!! All you have to do is vote on mintpal every 1 hour!!! https://www.mintpal.com/votingYou can only vote without paying if you have a trade history. Why would I buy any of those coins? Oh wait, buy some shitcoin and then sell them and then vote! I could be a klondike coin whale! 24hr trade volume = 0.004 btc

^It seems you were using an old version of the source/binaries, so you didn't payed the right fees for the transactions. Download the latest one from the OP. Delete the poolstate.bin file (from %APPDATA%\bitmonero) and backup your wallet (the .keys file is the most important). Then delete the .bin file and run the wallet again to resync it with the network.
Am I correct to assume that if you have the deterministic wallet you don't have to back it up as it can be recreated from the seed?

I am the masses. I'm interested i'm Monero due to the involvement of people I respect. I have no computer skills. My new computer is windows 8.1 with a pentium chip ![Embarrassed](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/embarrassed.gif) so I wont be mining. You NEED to start mining. Don:t use a pool. Just be patient. As you suggested and after some head scratching I set up and started to mine solo and now realize that at my current hr and difficulty the avg time to find a block is 300 days. Maybe we have a different definition of patience. ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

Have been catching up on today's posts and luckily I could skip over the majority of words.
Topic #1: Free Will
Instead of watching those lengthy videos I shall give one example. Turrets Syndrome is a disorder where people have uncontrollable tics, sometimes verbal which involves cursing. If you ask a person with Turrets how they experience it they will say they chose to behave this way as it is a relief similar to scratching an itch. When they record the brain activity their conscious "decision' happens after the action.
As we believe that our consciousness is in control we constantly do the same thing and explain our actions as conscious decisions after the fact.
Topic #2: Religion
May I suggest you consider practicing mine.
There is one commandment......Be Good
Whenever I left the house my Mother said "Be Good" and at 4 years old there was no ambiguity as to what that meant so it shouldn't be that difficult although like all things it does take practice.
There is one holiday, it is Thanksgiving and it is every day. As this eliminates all the gift giving holidays I do the following. If I find a gift that meaningful to a person I get it for them then and there. How do you think the recipient feels receiving a gift because you thought of them as opposed to having to find something/anything because it is the "law" that you must give a gift on a particular day.
One commandment and one holiday. That's all there is to it.

I'm fairly certain there are multiaccounters that pop up into the freerolls on the bubble as soon as someone busts to keep it going indefinitely it's only a gut feeling and idc as long as they stay out of real games but some of those guys are on my radar
Thank you for this report. We have a ZERO tolerance policy for multi-accounters and colluders. Please email any names to report(a)betcoinpoker.com for an immediate review. We can ban all players and all IP addresses very easily. Also our anti-collusion alerts let us know when there is even the slightest bit of collusion or fraud. We are in the process of setting up a great schedule and testing a variety of things. Just because you see them playing those tournaments doesn't mean they have the ability to cash out or offer other options. Additionally, 50 credit tournaments are nothing to us for the test even if they were able to cash out. Our main concern is protecting our valued players and these players have all actually played in ring games that have worked well. Additionally, allowing us to test several functions before banning them and understanding these type of players is also important. They are not scamming us, however only making the website stronger in the long run and we have full control over it. All the suspect players have been banned to various levels at this point.
We do thank everyone for there feedback and input and will continue to work very hard to make this an exceptional poker destination.

Can someone explain these errors in the daemon? It goes on forever in red text except for the bolded which is white. Before I was mostly getting the bolded error.

also withholding blocks, to manipulate the perceived hashrate and effectively attack other mining pools, is a problem The block withholding attack might actually end up being what limits the size of pools in the end. If it's no longer safe to accept random members of the public into a pool, then the pool membership needs to be limited to trusted hashers. This means a larger number of pools for a given number of hashers. +1 Block withholding attack far more serious issue I think than people realize. @justusranvier, it doesn't work that way. It's the pool that is holding back the blocks not the members. ORLY? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=441465.msg7282674#msg7282674

Hey guys,
I installed the new 11 june win64 binaries(just copy pasted over my old ones, like I mostly do) and I try to start bitmonerod to sync the network, but it seems like it never syncs, and on top of that, it SRSLY hang my network bandwith, like 90%. what is wrong?
Can you pastebin the output from the daemon? im sry u mean the .txt file? its mostly this"Sync data returned unknown top block: 81531 -> 81902" and keeps going on.... the real problem is it hangs my network! I was successfully using the last edition like 12 hours ago! and I cant find the old version of exe anymore because OP updated it... :/ That means it's catching up - it WILL use all the available bandwidth till its caught up, there's no rate-limiting on it. Remember: Monero is still alpha-level software and is not ready for widespread use or in situations where bandwidth is limited. A lightweight SPV-style client will only happen in the future once we've made everything a lot more robust and stable and workable:) I have been following monero since its launch. This bitmonerod behavior is not normal, after the update it got buged. I will let it update, but filling up an entire 30/2,5 vdsl line for some 12 hours worth of synching bytes is not normal. It is the first time the exe behaves like that. Plz do fix asap. edit: apparently it synced, but leaving the bitmonerod open appears to have detrimental effect on the network, im not sure whether this was the case before. Yep i have the same problem. If i run bitmonerod i cant do anything else on the internet... I have been trying to set up Monero for the first time and got up to downloading blockchain.bin. When I moved tied to the bitmonero folder as per the monero talk tutorial I did not see it in the bitmonero folder only the text file as it started to sync. As it was taking a while I went to sleep and upon waking up I was still 3 days behind. I haven't yet set up the wallet. And yes I can't do much with my computer except use this forum. I use my computer for work and missed a few hours last night. Can't wait till it finishes syncing. Only 1 day behind now yeah!!

nembie want to ask 66 freeroll starts every how many hours? ![Huh](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/huh.gif) It pops up after the previous one finishes. Because that time can vary depending on how people play, there's some variation. You just gotta keep an eye out if you wanna play the freeroll. yes I understand, now 66 freeroll in 2-3 times a day just emerging Usually it goes off quite a bit more times than that. I haven't had the opporunity to play in several weeks (been too busy) but they usually finish in about 1.5 hours and then another one starts. That's closer to 15 per day. Since you were clamoring for freerolls and then didn't show up they cut down on the frequency. ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif)

I started using btc over a year ago. I have never downloaded the blockchain as I have only used the electrum wallet. I have considered purchasing XMR but the process of downloading, setting up, and transferring is daunting. I don't want use an exchange for storage. I see that an attempt is being made to make a deterministic wallet. Will this mean no downloading of the blockchain like electrum? Any advice on how to get started with Monero would be appreciated. Thanks I'll give it a go when I have some time. Just to reinforce how clueless I am, in 13 years of owning a computer I have never backed up anything ![Embarrassed](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/embarrassed.gif) This is another joy with using the electrum wallet, never a need to back it up. My seeds are safely stored in several secure locations and my btc will live on when I die. If you do not have computer skills, for this you should GNU/Linux as it work out of the box (see monero.cc Getting started - for install_monero.sh). Firstly, you can try it from USB bootable stick (see e.g. http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows) on which changes will be saved if you set up persistence. I found out about BTC 6 month ago, and I never actually used Electrum, but I'we been reading about best practices for deterministic wallets and I'we been running bitmonero daemon for a few weeks now. And, for what I understand, if you just wish to create a seed you may not use persistence and can skip installing cpuminer - the script will guide you through the process. Then you would disconnect from the network and generate a wallet, after which should be the same as with your other seeds. I suppose that there are no watching only option for simplewallet, at least at the moment. One of things that I like about Monero is egalitarian idea behind it (which seems to be working) so if you put to work even old computer, and you let it mine within the daemon, you actually have a chance of finding a block. You NEED to start mining. Don:t use a pool. Just be patient.
It would be nice if Monero GNU/Linux distro comes to life, after i2p is reimplemented in c++ ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) I must have less than no computer skills. I downloaded Monero as all I needed to do was click. I was following the MoneroTalk tutorial where it said after downloadimg (one of the 5 files they show is a zip file which I don't have, just the other 4) I am instructed to SIMPLY move the file to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming. After googling and searching for what would be the correct name of my USERPROFILE I came up empty handed. One hour gone. On the Monereo site it basically says their installation instruction only work for Linux. I had recently saved a link that explains dual boot with linux. I just read it and stopped when they talk about partitioning my hard drive. Am I to assume that using a bootable USB stick is easier? If I am running Monero with linux can I use my computer in Windows as well? I use my computer a lot during the day and must use windows.

It is supposed to checkpoint to disk, but apparently it didn't. Double check that you don't have a disk problem (out of disk space, etc.) and once it syncs up the next time, type "save" in the daemon window.
Thanks for the tips. This coin really is for geeks (funny thing is - I AM one !). Now I can see why nobody's buying it - it's not even out of alpha yet. ok, I've downloaded the blockchain but can't find any info as to where I should locate it. If I put it in the same folder as the daemon, then the log entry says 'Unable to load blockchain, creaating genesis block'. On the other hand, if I look in users/AppData/Roaming etc, there's no sign of a Monero folder created by the daemon. If I downloaded the Windows binaries, do I still need to install any 3rd party support infrastructure (there was on cited on the Wallet download page but I forgot the name right now). Thanks again for the tips ! EDIT: FOund where the blockchain goes - it's in a folder called 'bitmonero' in roaming, not monero. Bitcoin itself was once a geeky skeletal framework. In fact in either case, it's not the coin itself that is geeky but rather the underlying technology. The task at hand is to bring the technology to the masses which is an evolutionary process.
