The Electrum wallet for btc also is a deterministic wallet that uses a 12 word seed.  Even if you know somebody is using Electrum or Monero and also know the word list, I think the Electrum list is public and I imagine Monero as well, the "seed" is unhackable.

Poloniex used to have some issues with withdraws failing, large ones in particular. This was probably due to many smaller deposits causing large number of inputs for these transactions. They would be too big and fail. Instead of combining small inputs themselves (and thus take the fee hit) it seems they have changed their approach to simply send small inputs directly to the customers withdraw address. This way they are moving the burden of small transactions on to their customers and avoid failed withdraws (or having to pay high fees to combine inputs).

Yes, that is exactly what's happened. Poloniex also didn't bother using mixin 1 (they used 0) and made me wait about 24 hours before processing my  XMR withdrawal. I also had to wait several hours for my second withdrawal. I'm not so happy with Poloniex's service. Now I've got a mess on my hands. Tons of ~30 XMR inputs and now I can't move them easily.

Poloniex has always used mix 0. The workaround I have used to make it untraceable is to withdraw to one wallet (I call it from-poloniex), then I send that on to another wallet (with a higher mix).

This will also allow you consolidate the output amounts. As TheKoziTwo explained, you will incur some fees doing this, but it is mostly the same fees you would have incurred spending the small outputs later (unless you did only tiny spends). Once consolidated, spending will become very inexpensive (sometimes 0.01 even with mixing).

I just checked my withdrawal of a few weeks ago from Poloniex and they used a mixin of 1.  The tx id shows a larger amount than I received so I guess there were others included in the tx.  The tx was composed of 90 inputs and 8 outputs.  Four of the outputs were mine, one for each place value.  Is this the situation that will cause problems transferring from my wallet?

How important is it to transfer the coins received from Polo and what is a proper mixin #?  I know these 2 questions were covered a while ago but it is not clear to me now.

so even with the database update, it still takes around 1gb of RAM to run Monero?

currently a 75% improvement but geez cmon

Please read again

This shows the DB version using very little memory, well under 1 GB.

1686  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HYP lottery analogy on: December 25, 2014, 12:54:40 PM
hi guys
i read and found that hyperstake only pay 1000hyp max stake bounty so if i purchase a coin from someone and put it on stake but he has already got 1000hyp on that coin so will i get bounty again or not on that particular coin??
if i get bounty again than inflation is not controlled i think and if i am not getting bounty on my coin than i guess its not fair!!
hoping to hear from you soon!

You'll get up to 1000 HYP from your coins again and again. Inflation is controlled because there are thousands of people like you willing to get the reward, but only ~1000 winning chances per day, it's like a lottery where more lucky holders (with bigger block sizes) win. So this coin has steady emission of  700 000-900 000 HYP per day, just not to be unfair)
I like the analogy, I think it will help newcomer understand better how HYP works (and thus, make the more interested into it and thus increase the visibility and hopefully the volume). So let me improve on your already nice writing:

See HYP staking as a lottery with 960 winning chances per day (one every 90 seconds). With this particular rules
- Each of your "tickets" (blocks) have one chance to win every 90 seconds
- If it wins, it cannot win again for 9 days
- If it wins, you get up to 1000 more HYP
- If it loses, it increases its chances to win the next time
- The more "expensive" the ticket (the bigger the block), the more chances to win
- The actual chances of winning depends on the number of tickets. The more tickets, the less chances of winning so the less new HYP you'll get, which is how HYP controls inflation

This presentation voluntarily avoids any details about chances of winning, and amount of HYP rewarded. If someone wants to know this, this person is already hooked. It also avoids any explanation on how it secures the network (this is here: Network security and why it matters).

Please mention any oversight;

When I first read the bolded I took it to mean the number of tickets a person has since that is the perspective of the other points.  Obviously this can't be correct and being that I am familiar with HYP I know this and was only confused for a short time.  May I suggest you clarify the point and say something like "The actual chances of winning depends on the total number of tickets everybody has.".

Dear Presstab, do you have a hammer handy?  I have a block with an age of 28 days that maxed out at 1000 HYP 12 days ago.  I have no older blocks and 19 blocks that are younger and small have minted, most in ~half the time.  Thank you.

With difficulty going up quickly, you are going to have to start rethinking how you size your blocks. Either size them larger so that the stake quicker at the expense of hitting the max, or size them smaller so that they don't hit the max at the expense of more time.

PS - my oldest is 78 days  Cheesy
How is that possible if max coin age is 30 days ?
Do you have a "special" wallet for yourself ?  Grin

Blocks no longer gain weight after 30 days but they can still stake.

I played your site recently and why has the freerolls changed to  enrolling on the website and also on the application on my PC it doesn't show when the freeroll is ready to enroll.

I guess you don't play cash games because nobody else has much except for Seals.  Yes Betcoin gives you access to WPN's tournaments at twice the rake of Seals.  And WPN has been having issues lately to the point that they had to cancel their big tournament they were promoting for months because of those problems.

Is there anyway there will ever be the "Muck Hand" option available. In every real world game I've played at and at every other online site there's an option to muck your hand if you have the losing hand. I don't like showing what cards I have after every hand, and I don't think a lot of people like to either.

Every online site I know of except one you can see all hands that go to show down in the hand history.

An extra 100k xmr added relatively low on the asks. Wonder if its due to .001 being broken, this tail emission discussion, both or something else.

The value of gold is that it is shiny and if you bury it and come back in a thousand years it is still shiny.

I saw an exhibit in a museum of artifacts worn by the Kings and Queens of Korea when they were buried long long ago.  The silver looked like crud and the gold was shiny.  That quality of gold is what man has desired since he found out the inevitable.  But looking at it another way, who would want to be inert?

Since I was the one who opened my big mouth...

yes. I'll match, and increment a little above with another 800. Just sent the coins, it'll be posted up as soon as they confirm.

EDIT: Done and increments of 200 up to 4K. Let's do this shit Cheesy

I just set up my polo address for my s4c.  I'll match that when I have that deposited.  It shouldn't be too long at 25%.  Grin

WARNING!! S4C doesn't work as it is described.  I tried it once and the % wasn't taken from the stake of the block that had just staked but from another block that hadn't even matured to 8.8 days yet.  The not matured block was now smaller and it's age was reset to 0. Shocked Shocked
