Please price, raise a little bit faster. I'm waiting for too long in this coin.

Price here, sure, how high would you like me to go

0.01BTC would be good for starters.

Roger that, let me prepare and spark up. A noticeable effect should be visible within 30 minutes.

Where are you Sparky? Huh

The Russians need Monero Wink

I have no prior predictions but I will make an exception in this case as I have found the perfect cargo cult correlation.

First week of Dec = $480

Maybe you should use the data directly from secondmarket.
1825  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 10, 2014, 02:02:16 AM
All of those advancements will be made by the end of 2014? IE in less than 2 months? --Just curious.

I am proud to say that I joined the Monero bandwagon today. Using that command prompt style wallet makes me feel like I'm in the early days of bitcoin.

If anyone would like to give me some Monero to start off with my address is this: 46aWMLjf2aYKwFHt27Rsc21njMecyvGcniRhSYcsZr5pLvRd92KanY73HgEzRVRdoRfiPfYFwMNxr1y ZhdamPEaBS9DGk8X

Currently my purchased coins are on an exchange and I will move them over once I feel comfortable with the Monero client. If there is anything I can do to help spread the word let me know Cheesy

Edit:
Other stuff that will help increase adoption is making it more known that the total coin cap is about 18 million coins (even on monero.cc it's hidden in some details). Took me a while to hunt that down.

I would also show ancillary services such as blockchains for it, also a pain to find. I found this one: http://chainradar.com/xmr/blocks but there should also be a moneriochain.info or moneroblockchain.com/info etc.

Also the main website could use some aesthetic appeal (maybe I can help with this?).

Welcome.  I know you were responding to a post here but the content of your post is more for the main ANN thread where you will likely get more answers and help.  Anyway, yes things have been and are being continually worked on.  The database is almost finished and it has been said the GUI won't be ready before Christmas.  Hopefully Jan. next year.  It ain't no run of the mill GUI.  That is nowhere near the end of development already in the works.  Yes the website leaves a lot to be desired and is also currently being worked on.  I have no idea where they are with that.  Monerochain.info is no longer functional.
1826  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 11 Markets on: November 09, 2014, 05:54:39 PM
I'm unsure as to where things stand with the block splitting and I know it's being worked on.  I had a ~4k block stake that did not split.  This happened right after I went to sleep so the first thing I did this morning was split it and lose a bit of age.  Not a big deal but it got me thinking.  Would it be possible to make it so that one could select whether or not a block will split after minting before it mints?
1827  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 09, 2014, 04:54:44 PM
...We are all in the same boat, and it is burning. How about doing what it takes now, so that we can continue to other things? Smiley

Meanwhile the price is going up. If it continues that way, I suppose at one point we could naturally stop this discussion?

Since August 2014 it isn't exactly going up, that is wishfull thinking. And no, not burning but sinking.

  • This boat is nearly underwater, and just now is the chance to change emission. Not at 0.050BTC, nor on 0.100BTC. Now, or never -
  • now, or never! Once completely submerged below waterline, all passengers might choose to swim over elsewhere, saving their savings.

Would anybody be asking to change the emission if we were at those prices?  We are nowhere near those prices nor will be anytime soon due to emissions, where the big boys not aware of it?, and there is currently be no practical use for it, another surprise?

We were told it was not even beta software but alpha.  That is not ready for prime time.

Nothing was hidden.

The team will deliver the software.  The practical uses need to be built by others.  Then there are the circumstances beyond our control.

I am and have been underwater because I be idiot.  The money means more to me than most.  I get excited when peanut butter goes on sale!  For me the price is in no way a motivating factor to change things, the overall picture would be.  Given the conversation that picture is obviously cloudy.  The blind men and the elephant.
1828  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: XMR baghodler reporting in- the uncensored version on: November 09, 2014, 07:15:34 AM
ehm. i don't usually respond to troll posts, but it's saturday, so why not?

i still have all my xmr.

i have stated before i'll sell all mine if there's some crazy dramatic change to the emissions curve. that's still the way i feel. i am in support of fixing subsidy at 0.1 XMR when we reach it, to cause small amounts of inflation that help secure the chain, but that's it.

in the future, 2-3 years from now, if people want to come back and tell me that xmr was a premine, that they never had a chance to get in on it when it was cheap, direct them to this post and what the chart looked like at this time. xmr was here to buy, it was cheap, the tech is in the CN paper, we implemented the first database for CN core (not a page file), we published the first paper on a number of privacy issues, and i'm working hard to ensure a roll out of new privacy features in the near future. we've battled off several serious attacks and drama, and we've done it on our own dime. we never had a premine, we never had an instamine, we never had a tax.

i personally never sat around pumping the coin, etc etc etc. the tech behind it is good, so i always had faith. we reimplemented the ring sig algo and studied it intensely and couldn't break it. ecdh is trivially secure. the bitcoin core devs spoke favourably of the ring signature technology in the their sidechains paper.

gui for the node is really an afterthought, which was why we never shoved one out quickly. look at how many bitcoin-qts are left running these days; everyone uses a safer reimplementation of the bitcoin wallet or a webwallet because running a full node using 250 GB of bandwidth a month is silly for the end user. rest assured we're working on better solutions.

there's going to be a lot of stuff happening in the near future. dev is rolling along. if you wanna dump your coins now, go for it.

TacoTime, what do you consider "some crazy dramatic change to the emissions curve."?

Why do I always get hungry when I see your name?

edit:  Thank you

He was wrong, who cares? People are wrong all the time, you're posting this like it's some massive revelation.

I was wrong.

I bought 4 jars of my favorite peanut butter on sale at less than half price.  I put the bag on the hood of my car while I got my keys out.  Much to my dismay one of the jars rolled out of the bag, down the hood and when it hit the pavement it broke.  As it's not all about me I cleaned up all the broken glass.  That was over 3 Moneros worth of peanut butter.  Yes I buy good peanut butter.
1830  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 08, 2014, 09:18:43 PM
Once again: Donīt point out the problem; present a solution, make a better Emission curve and back it up why its better, present the advantages and disadvantages etc. Thats simply what i expect from a discussion. Just changing the Emission to be only half as fast or whatever canīt be the holy grail.

The best suggestion I've seen, I think, is from BanditryAndLoot, who suggested to take the next 3.5 years (or pick some other such number) of rewards under the existing curve and flatten them.

My rationale for this would be that:

1. BTC and LTC have done okay with keeping he emissions flat for a while and then cutting them. This is total speculation but I might guess that keeping them flat for a while encourages participation, since people do not feel disadvantaged for having arrived a bit later in each cycle.

2. 3.5 (or 2.5 or whatever) years should most certainly be enough time for build out of the technology and for adoption to start to occur if it ever will. I don't think the current 1-2 years before we are well over 50% mined and people start to look at the coin as mature but with little to show for it is enough.

3. This causes no permanent change so it has less "social contract" issues. Once the end of the flattening period is reached everything is just exactly as it always was. This is probably the positive action that can be taken with the least reputation harm. Not zero necessarily, but everything else is worse.

I'm still undecided on whether anything should be changed.

I think for several reasons that the emmission rate of xmr is close to perfect - the only thing i am unsure is if the price is probably to high. but we will see.

if you study the emmission rate in a greater detail you'll see the beauty. from an economics perspective it has quite a ton of very interesting implications.

this place is so used to pump and dump that it forgets where the true value of a decentralized currency can be found. its possibility to create network effects.

Could you share more details?

1.) if only the the design of inflation would matter, the price will be an inverse function of supply
2.) given the high amount of daily produced coins it is almost impossible to pump the coin or to keep a the pump for a long time
3.) given the high amount of daily produced coins it is almost impossible to become a super whale and keep this status for a long period of time - if this would be the case it would hinder network effects
4.) given the design of inflation it is still more rational to buy today than tommorow, but if you fail to buy today the costs will be minimal
5.) the effects of this can already be seen: most of time the coin was traded in a range between 0.002 and 0.0045, this probably gives a lot of people the feeling that they "have not missed the train already"
6.) if only the design of inflation matters: investors assume an appreciation of xmr in the long run, which leads to the incentive to hold
7.) all that said: the design leads to a situation, where mining is rational, where holding is rational and where buying is rational. given situations of bubbles it is rational to sell and buy back lower - this leads to a stabilisation of the system

compare this to other designs of emmission.

I still have some concerns but compared to other designs they are minor

my own disclaimer is probably that I am a post-keynesian institutional economist Smiley but when this looks convincing to someone with this background it will probably convince guys on the other side of the guild much more Wink

I posted that back in august I guess - still think it is true - but there are issues which we could not see back then

You make good points in favor of high emissions really. I guess that is why I'm undecided and why I also agree with othe that nobody really knows what the hell is right.

Then how about what is Better. A slower emission may not be what's "perfect", but it sure is better than a higher one.

Bold #1:  I also liked BanditryAndLoot's idea.

Bold #2:  Would a slower emissions still be fast enough to fit nakaone's thoughts?

Bold #3:  How much better would a change need to be? Grin Grin Grin

The joys of live play.  Although a player could have added a card (it is difficult and dangerous to do) most likely a mistake was made putting the deck together and the dealer missed it.  The dealer must check the deck before it is used and then they are supposed to count down the deck on a regular basis.  And yes there is no RNG Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin
1832  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 08, 2014, 03:17:49 AM
What is clear is that this emissions schedule is not the intended one once Monero was taken over by the current team but that is history now.  6 months may not be a long time yet 25% of coins have been mined.  The # of coins would seem to be a better metric but still I have no clue.

What is clear is that nobody knows what will happen no matter what is decided.

In regards to forking or sporking (I use that term because there seems to be uncertainty what a fork is), who would do it?

That question is in the context of what Monero currently is.  In my mind so much of what Monero is is the vision of the core team.  They are a large part of the reason I am involved with Monero.  Who would take over and what would that mean?  I support whatever the core team decides.

It's normal.  That is not to say likely but it happens everywhere including live.  At least you don't see what I saw live which was somebody making 5 of a kind in 100-$200 7 card stud and the floor saying that the hand is live and wins because it was the best hand.  I don't remember the losing hand.

All I can suggest is appropriate music to help you deal with it.  Nowadays music is the only form of self medication other than caffeine that my body will allow.

ETA: I didn't even remember my signature when writing this post.

How much work is needed to make the DB windows and OS X compatible?

Therefore may I suggest to either stay on schedule and give whatever news there is to give including possible timelines on immediate work or go back to only giving news when there is news and leave everybody to wonder when there might be news.

OK I edited it.  Any better?
1836  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: November 05, 2014, 05:31:03 PM
How about calling it 'Weekly Missives' cause the team is clearly unable to deliver 'monday missives' on monday.

I believe it already was but people never knew when during the week it would be released hence the increase in the alteration.  Then again it didn't stay on a weekly schedule.

Development doesn't seem to run on a predetermined schedule and announcements aren't being given without any news.  Therefore may I suggest to either stay on schedule and give whatever news there is to give including possible timelines on immediate work or go back to only giving news when there is news and leave everybody to wonder when there might be news.

to get you started

Hmm, you are right.
I'll stand out Smiley

Sorry didn't mean to single you out as others that responded also are already involved.

The point being that having a few more HYP is not as important as having a few more people with HYP.
1838  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HYP] HyperStake | 750% PoS | Advanced Coin Control Wallet | 11 Markets on: November 04, 2014, 11:50:07 PM
Promotional give away to get you started and because Hyperstake is awesome! (no address spam here please, only PM)

10 x 500 Hyperstake! (9 to go)

Tell me why you love Hyperstake and send me a PM with your Hyperstake address.

Only accounts with activity over 100.

I love hyperstake for two reasons.

The first one is presstab. He's like a beaver squirelling away at it, if you'll forgive the animal mixture. He doesn't hype, or pump and dump, he constantly gets on with the job of making hyperstake better. This is not unique of course, but it is not that frequent around crypto. davidlatapie is also constantly looking for ways to make this coin better in non coding ways. Both are trying to make something interesting rather than focusing on The Price first and foremost.

The second reason is the 750% rate. While I expect many people to maybe get seduced into thinking this 750% will translate to profits by assuming a constant price, the reason why this does it for me is that there is this constant (ok, not so constant) trickle of stakes coming in, and growing your stack. It's just a dumb psychological thing, but it is addictive Smiley
